DO YOU REALLY UNDERSTAND HOW IMPORTANT THIS IS?
Actually, it really shouldn't be all that important. As I've told you many times, our founding fathers felt that in times of peace 95% of all governance should come from the local, not the federal level. Not one of the people who signed the Declaration of Independence or who participated in the design of our Constitution ever dreamed that the federal government would become the out-of-control behemoth it is today. We should be far more concerned with local elections than federal. The main thing we should be looking to the federal government for is national security ... that and some roads and bridges. Our downfall was the lure of political power. The men and women we sent to Washington became so intoxicated and addicted to power that they constantly wanted more and more. So, they seized it. Simple as that. How about a little reality check? Do you really have an understanding of just how much control this federal government we're now saddled with has over your daily life? This is important, folks. Take a look at Nancy Pelosi as she goes about her chosen task of saving the planet. Put Harry Reid right up there next to her and tell me how much you like what you see. Then ... add to the mix a president with a lifetime fascination with Marxism; a president that actively sought the endorsement of a fledgling communist party when he ran for the senate in Illinois just six years ago. Do you really like the picture that's emerging here? Former deputy assistant treasury secretary Ernest Christian and former congressman Bill Frenzel wrote a short but very powerful column that appeared in the Wall Street journal last week. I read part of this column on the air yesterday and immediately the emails started flooding in asking that I include the parts that I wrote in today's Nuze. Glad to oblige. I'm thrilled that there are people out there who are actually alarmed at what they heard. Frenzel and Christian reminded us that with the election of Barack Obama we will have the most left-wing, collectivist-minded president in our history. He, together with Pelosi and Reid, will be in charge of a government of immense power over your daily lives. Here is the list that Frenzel and Christian posted ... a list of the things that a "united president and Congress can, as a practical matter, do plush much more." - Take your money and give it to someone else.
- Tell businesses what to produce and sell, who to hire and what wages to pay.
- Set all commodity, wholesale and retail prices.
- Control all energy supplies.
- Control all communication networks and financial markets.
- Replace all private health care with a government system.
- Prescribe the curriculum for all schools
- Determine which students get a slot in elite universities.
- Diminish political and other speech.
- Enroll all citizens above the age of 17 either in the military or in civilian corps for periodic instruction and service
- Children could be required to spend the summer in government "youth" camps.
Sound a bit much? Hardly. There is absolutely nothing on this list that the Imperial Federal Government of the United States could not do today. Take the "youth" camps, for instance. Tell me ... if mandatory attendance laws are OK for regular school during the school year, just why wouldn't a mandatory attendance law be OK for the summer indoctrination camp? It's time to wake up a bit folks. Have you ever heard Obama talk about strengthening local government and weakening federal government. How often have you heard him sing the praises of freedom? Do you think for one moment that this man has any true affection for the free market? This is an election that simply cannot be made on the basis of skin color of historical significance. Decades from now it is going to matter what Obama did to our freedoms and to our nation, not how well he could speak (with a script) or what color he was. Let's hope the electorate matures --- a lot before November rolls around.
MCCAIN'S ACCEPTANCE
There's some speculation now that John McCain may not accept the party nomination here in St. Paul. This would be the first time since FDR in 1944 that a candidate has not accepted the nomination at the convention. FDR was on a U.S. naval base on the Pacific Coast ... John McCain would be somewhere in the Gulf Coast and accept the nomination via satellite. Look, Senator. Quit trying to upstage Obama. Just tell the American people that you want to reverse the trend toward the centralization of government by returning government to the local level. Tell them Washington has become too important. Tell them that you want to start a trend that will, in 20 years, have them concentrating on their local officials because that is where the power will be. Tell them of your trust and belief in freedom and your dedication to honesty. It's now where you deliver the speech, it's what you have to say.
More photos from the RNC AND IT GETS MORE INTERESTING Yesterday on the program we discussed the Daily Kos' first ugly attack on vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Someone tried to assert that Palin's newest son, Trig, was not Sarah Palin's son but her grandson the real mother said to be Palin's daughter Bristol. Well it didn't even take a day before the rumor was put to rest ... but it might not have been the news you expected. Bristol is most assuredly not the mother of Trig. However, Bristol Palin turns out to be 5 months pregnant. She's 17 years old. She plans to marry the baby daddy. The McCain camp apparently already knew about Bristol's pregnancy but didn't see it as a problem ... and why should they. Sarah Palin's daughter's pregnancy has absolutely no bearing on her ability to be a vice president. It might get the evangelicals in a knot, but for the most part, they seem more enthused just to have Sarah Palin on the ticket and see Bristol's pregnancy as a private affair. So I have to commend Barack Obama for his reaction to the story. He said, "I have said before and I will repeat again: People's families are off limits ... And people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18 and how a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn't be a topic of our politics." Oh and here's a little interesting piece about the whole saga. A TIME magazine reporter says that Bristol's pregnancy wasn't a secret or big deal in their town of Wasilla. Will the left make a big deal of this? Guaranteed. THE GREAT UNWASHED
How many stories did we hear during the DNC about violent protests on the streets? With the RNC barely under way we already have an entire delegation of Connecticut Republicans who were attacked by protestors. Then we get these anarchists who are throwing around benches and smashing windows of police cars. Boortz, Hannity Uncensored

THE POODLE SPEAKS
According to John Kerry, McCain did not choose Tom Ridge or Joe Lieberman as his VP because ... Rush Limbaugh and the rightwing vetoed it. And when it comes to McCain's actual choice, Sarah Palin ... John Kerry says that because Palin doesn't believe in man-made global warming, this puts her back there with the "flat earth caucus." So there you go. If you don't believe in this global warming scam, then you might as well believe that the earth is flat. And this is coming from a man who could have been president of the United States! But Kerry is doing a great job of carrying Obama's message that a McCain-Palin presidency would just be four more years of Bush-Cheney. Here's his explanation as to why: "With the choice of Governor Palin it is now the third term of Bush-Cheney. Because what he's done is chosen somebody who actually doesn't believe that climate change is man-made. He's chosen somebody who has zero, zero experience in foreign policy." Don't know about you, but I've about heard enough from this "reporting for duty" phony. HILLARY GETS SOME TIME IN THE SPOTLIGHT
The Obama campaign's solution to John McCain's VP pick ... send Hillary on the campaign trail. A lot. She will appear in battle ground states, at fundraisers, on television, all because the Obama camp is afraid of losing those women voters. Heck, the race is so close right now, if just 5% of Hillary supporters switched to McCain-Palin, the race could be over. So Hillary will get more face time now, because she is the best female the Democrats have going for them. (Gawd, what a frightening thought. We need a recount.) Meanwhile, some in the Hillary camp are insulted that people are daring to compare Sarah Palin to Hillary's "lifetime of public service." What they call a lifetime of public service is really a lifetime of seeking power. Nothing more. A POINT OF DISAGREEMENT
An issue where John McCain and Sarah Palin differ is on that of school vouchers. John McCain supports school voucher programs while Sarah Palin apparently does not. In fact, the National Education Association is praising McCain's VP selection partly because of this position that she took when she ran for governor. On this one, I have to go with John McCain. Our hideous excuse for a government education system in this country is not something that can be fixed with more tax payer money and more government. John McCain delivered some harsh criticism of the Bush administration's policy on using torture against terrorism suspects. I disagree with him on this one. If the life of my wife or daughter depended on me torturing someone ... get out the alligator clips and the electrodes. Jeremiah Wright's latest quote: "This ordinary boy [Obama] just might be the first president in the history of the United States to have a black woman sleeping at 1600 Pennsylvania legally." The RNC is turning into a fundraiser for Gustav evacuees. Liberals at the New Republic are worried how Hurricane Gustav might actually help the Republicans. For Libertarians out there, here's an article that argues Sarah Palin is the best choice out of the Republicans and Democrats. A big-time Hillary Clinton supporter is now supporting John McCain partly because the Democratic Party is "being taken over by the moveon.org types." Apparently Sarah Palin has closed the "enthusiasm gap" between the McCain and Obama campaigns. You can bet that drilling for oil is going to be a major theme for the GOP in this election. Well we knew this one was coming. The UN has declared that these Atlantic hurricanes are "reminders of the risks of ever more extreme weather linked to a changing climate." The month of August was the first month in almost 100 years when the sun did not have one single visible sunspot. Local councils in Great Britain are going to give school children proper instructions on how to play on the playground. Don't want the little ankle biters to get hurt, do we? An Ohio teenager was shot DRT while throwing eggs at cars. Use wisely your power of choice. |
