BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE
OK, everyone. Calm down for a minute. The Boortz show has a preview of tonight's speech by Hillary Clinton at the Democrat convention. Click here ... and then on with your business. | Boortz On Video | | Pro War vs. Anti War Our engineer, Charles, wandered into a protest at the convention Sunday. What happens when the pro war and anti war protestors meet? Well, check it out for yourself. | | NEAL ON TV Catch Neal tonight on the Fox News Channel. He'll be on with Neil Cavuto at approximately 9pm ET. |
THE UNCLE TOM MOMENT
Attempts to unite the Democrat Party (a big theme here in Denver) have been put on hold while the media figures out what to make of this "Uncle Tom" moment. What happened was that a black Barack Obama delegate apparently called a black Hillary Clinton supporter an "Uncle Tom." The conversation took place Saturday night in a hotel lobby in Denver. Delmarie Cobb of Chicago says that Illinois Senate President Emil Jones called her the slur for supporting Hillary Clinton. Jones initially denied calling Cobb an "Uncle Tom" but then tried telling reporters that he called her a "doubting Thomas" and Cobb misheard the comment. Now the Illinois' Nation Organization for Women is calling on Jones to resign immediately from the Illinois state Senate for the comment. If you read the history of The Chosen One's rise in the Chicago political machine you'll see the name of Emil Jones everywhere. He's a old-style Chicago politician who was instrumental in Barack's political success. The media used to excoriate the Chicago political machine, but no more ... not now that the machine's greatest political success is the Democrat nominee. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton is trying to restore party unity ... again, one of the themes for the week (besides John McCain's houses). Members of the Congressional Black Caucus say that Hillary plans to release her pledged delegates to Obama, which "would help Democrats present a unified face to the nation after a primary marked by calls of racism and sexism." The move is officially expected to happen on Wednesday. MORE RACE AT THE CONVENTION
Speaking on a panel at the DNC, Jesse Jackson compared Barack Obama to Jackie Robinson saying that Obama must endure jeers from the crowd without having the ability to hit back. He said, "Barack Obama has the capacity to hit ... But he is in the situation where he can't hit back, which Jackie Robinson could not do. ... He had to be able to run the bases, even though the crowd was jeering the first African-American on the field." And apparently this is why: "He has to keep smiling, because no one wants an angry African-American man in the White House." Poor Jesse. The next edition of Webster's is going to have his picture next to the entry for "irrelevant." He can hardly draw flies to a dump. There was another panelist was a radio/TV host by the name of Travis Smiley. Smiley is a very accomplished race baiter. He says that the expectations of Barack Obama are so high that "even Jesus Christ himself might not be able to respond." And there you have it ... yet another person who feels the need to compare Barack Obama to Jesus Christ. Seems like a new cottage industry. SO MUCH FOR THE WOOD HOTEL ROOM CARDS
Yesterday I told you that our hotel room cards were made of wood. That's right ... wood. Well, this little Democrat inspired "green" experiment failed. Gotta love it. Apparently some Democrats got splinters in their precious little hineys and the cards didn't work all that well. So ... it's back to plastic. Tell you what --- I'm bringing some of the wood cards home with me .. we'll figure out a way to pass them out as souvenirs. OBAMA'S MESSAGE OF CHANGE
Frank Luntz conducted a focus group just before the Democrat convention. His findings should be somewhat eye opening for Obama: "change" isn't going to win Obama the presidency. Luntz says, "The way that he gets here to the Democratic nomination - 'change' - is not how he gets there, to the White House ...If it's change, by itself, he will fail. Change what? Change how? Change why?" Apparently most of the focus group was skeptical and even dismissive of the word "change." So I've told you before about how they conduct these focus groups. Well here are the results of what people thought of Obama, John McCain and the Bush presidency. - Obama: apocalypse, terrifying, scary, pizzazz, unknown, inexperienced, innovative, new, charismatic, smooth, unaffordable, change, hopeful.
- McCain: dependable, strong, experienced, scary, patriot, veteran, experienced, Bush Two, veteran, older generation, little boy, integrity, frightening, honest, older, cantankerous, repeat.
- Bush: self-centered, disciplined, unreliable, disappointing, conventional, dishonest, idiot, crook, nightmare, felon, self-assured, irresponsible.
It looks like they're really going to need to come up with some more buzz words and phrases. Wouldn't it be nice, though, if we were to campaign on substance instead of trying to trigger reactions with words? What all of this really does is show the shallowness of the American voter. NANCY AND EVIL OIL
My how the tunes have changed ... Nancy Pelosi is now saying that expanded offshore drilling could be included in an upcoming energy bill. With some provisions, of course. First things first: supporters must "prove" that increased offshore drilling is a viable solution to the problem. Gee, I don't know Nancy. Just what standard of proof are you going to insist on? Anyone with a brain the size of a BB could understand that the more oil there is available on the market, the lower the price (assuming demand remains the same) ... not to mention the fact that the more oil from our own shores means less oil from foreign nations, and isn't that exactly what we want a move towards energy independence? You must know that this drilling is going to come at a price for oil companies. Nancy says that if oil companies want to drill, they are going to pay royalties to the federal government like you wouldn't believe. She says, "You want to talk about drilling offshore? Let's talk about profits made by the oil companies without paying royalties ... They're taking your oil without paying any royalties." You see, for Democrats it's not really about making American energy independent. It's not really about lowering the price of gas at the pump. It's all about funneling more money money that will be eventually paid by consumers at the pump into government coffers. It's all about growing government first, the economy second Oh and one other thing. Nancy has also decided that her state is not going to be a part of the solution. Just as Florida has been a thorn in the side of US energy policy (luckily that seems to have changed), Nancy has decided that California's coast will be off limits to any increase in offshore drilling. BIGGEST NEWS OF THE DAY
And for the American Idol generation out there, we bring you the most alarming news of the day: American Idol has decided that it is going to add another judge for next season. Imagine the horror. What horror? I'm referring to the fact that this little announcement from the American Idol people will be the biggest news of the week for far too many people out there. GOTTA LOVE THE YOUNG VOTERS
Fox news went out on the streets of Denver last night to interview young Obama supporters. The results were predictable. When asked to name any Obama accomplishments ... they couldn't. One said "Ahhh ... the children ... well ..." Then these kids were asked why they supported Obama in the first place. Well, he's young, he has a nice voice, he's handsome and he is a good performer. Remember ... as the Fox reporter said, the only vote many of these kids have ever cast was for American Idol. THE WUSSIFICATION OF AMERICA
I'm told that we got an email deluge about this one over the last 24 hours. There is a little boy in New Haven, Connecticut by the name of Jericho Scott. Jericho plays little league baseball where he is a pitcher. In fact, Jericho is such a good pitcher that that league officials demanded that he no longer pitch because his pitching is "so hard, fast and accurate that it might frighten or discourage other players." In other words ... Jericho is just too good. The coach of Jericho's team, Wilfred Vidro, refused to replace Jericho as the pitcher and so the league canceled their next game. The team is 8-0 and ready to go to the playoffs. Peter Noble, who represents the Spanish for Youth Baseball League of New Haven says "The spirit of the league was community, family, well being, nurturing. It's an extended family and it's been disrupted," because of Jericho's pitching. Noble said that they canceled the game because they were afraid that adults fighting about Jericho's pitching would create an "unhealthy environment." So there you have it. The kid is better than his peers so the answer is to shut him down. Not encourage him to succeed but to make sure that he doesn't make the other children feel bad. The new America ... where failure is rewarded and excellence is punished. Not just a trite slaying. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS - Michel Obama did an excellent job with that speech last night. The kids, the wife, and the candidate by satellite. Perfect ... very well orchestrated.
- The city of Denver has no clue as to how to handle traffic around the arena. Someone forgot to go to school on this one. And the taxis? Don't get us started.
- Now is not the time to speak the truth to last night's commemoration of Ted Kennedy. The man is fighting cancer, and needs our best wishes. It is a bit odd, though, that while the Democrats are so busy slamming McCain for the houses he owns .. they feature repeated images of Kennedy on his yacht off Cape Cod. Oh well.
- By the way ... I have to say it was good to see Ted Kennedy walk out onto that stage last night.
- We also had a speech from the president of the National Association of Educators the most powerful union in America. Obama is in their pocket. Big time. Your children are being sacrificed for union money and support. Now that's change we can believe in.
- There was Nancy Pelosi last night telling Hillary's supporters in the audience to "avoid victim politics." Is she kidding? The Democrat party absolutely thrives on victim politics!
- The Democrats are making a lot of noise about making health care a right. Interesting thought ... giving one person a right to the services of another. Didn't we abolish that stuff a bit over 100 years ago?
- People around here sure do seem to like bicycles. If you see a fat person they're probably not from Colorado. Probably either media or a delegate.
- There's a Hooters across the street from our hotel. That is not a bad thing.
- Look at the Demonstrators. See how young most of them are? If you want to organize a good demonstration you need to recruit people from that magic age group that knows everything .. answers to all problems facing mankind.
- Last night Caroline Kennedy talked about "what America has given us." What she really means is how much American government has given us. I would rather think in terms of what Americans have worked for and earned for themselves.
- Have you read about that alleged assassination plot in Denver? One of the miscreants jumped out of a hotel room when the police got there. Anyone want to guess what hotel the Boortz crew was staying in? Yeah .. you got it. We've moved.
REDNECK SCRAP BOOK You know, this might well be the perfect redneck anthem. More in the Redneck Scrap Book. READING ASSIGNMENTS Iraq has reached an agreement with the United States to end all military presence in Iraq by 2011. Michael Barone has a great article about how Bill Ayers was able to get where he is today and why Obama needs to explain the relationship. Here we go already with the complaints ... protestors at the DNC are complaining that they are being treated like prisoners. Actually, they're not. They're being treated like children ... 'cause they are. Joe Biden was an unpopular choice in Iraq because he was the creator of the plan to divide Iraq based on ethnic groups. I've been asking this question for weeks now: Should Democrats Be Feeling Any Kind of Buyer's Remorse? Lou Dobbs wins the obvious comment of the day award by acknowledging that his fellow journalists are "absolutely biased." So much for global warming ... the Farmer's Almanac is predicting below-average temperatures for most of the US this winter. For those of you still complaining that we are in a "depression," take a look at the latest figures that show average income in the US has risen. Lobbyists here in Denver are running around with scarlet letter L's pinned to them. Joe Biden is not known for being short, sweet and to the point. Case in point. Delegates from New York are being warned about the dangers of drinking alcohol in Denver because it will go to their precious little heads faster due to the altitude. This big news of the day: John McCain has been endorsed by reggae singer Daddy Yankee, best known for his song "Gasolina." Golden, Colorado has rescinded its invitation for Al-Jazeera networks to broadcast from a barbecue on the last night of the Democrat National Convention. The latest drama from the DNC ... they won't be able to drop multicolored balloons after Obama speaks because Invesco Field doesn't have a roof to drop them from. |
