BARACKOBAMAMANIA IN EUROPE

Oh man, you just wouldn't believe it.

Here's the first paragraph from a column by Noah Barkin that cleared yesterday on Reuters:

BERLIN (Reuters) - European fans will cheer on U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama as he visits Berlin, Paris and London this week, but governments wary of his inexperience and evolving policies fear the euphoria is overdone.

And how ...

I've just returned from a week across the pond; London, Paris and Dublin. While there I had the opportunity to talk to journalists, pundits, political figures and businessmen. The message everywhere is the same. If Europeans could vote in the presidential election they would vote overwhelmingly for Obama, and the margins would be huge. The Obama margin right now in Germany is 49 percent. In France it is 51 percent and in Great Britain 30 percent.

But there's concern as well. Concern about the type of following Obama has generated and the policies he will take with him to the White House.

If you read the Barkin column you will find some interesting phrases:

• " ...unease with the Illinois senator's cult-like following ..."
• "a lot of people will have their illusions shattered if he does become president,"
• "Euphoria in politics is an invitation for disappointment,"

What have I been telling you? I'm not the only one sounding this warning. Some Obama followers can be fairly categorized as a cult. We are watching mass hysteria at work. Even in Europe there are people who will tell you how wonderful Barack Obama is, and if you ask they why it is brook trout time. They just sit there with their mouths open sucking in oxygen. Some will tell you they like him because he's for "change." My my, how very profound.

Just be ready. Toward the end of this week Obama will hit Berlin. Then it's off to France and Great Britain. Just wait until you see the crowds. You're going to think that a Beatles reunion has become a reality – including the dead ones.

As you watch the mania being beamed back from Europe, I ask you to remember one important thing. Not too many months ago the Pew Research Center – and these are people with great expertise in European polling – said that 58% of all Europeans want to see the United States weakened. Now think about that for a minute. Do you want the United States to be weakened? It's not surprising that Europeans might want that. After all, a weaker United States might well mean a stronger Europe in international affairs and economic influence. That might be great for Europe, and we can understand Europeans wanting to bring this about. But when these Europeans start falling all over themselves during the Obama 2008 tour, try to remember what their goals really are. Are they slobbering all over Obama because they think he will be a wonderful and powerful world leader, or because they think that Barack Obama is the means to their desired end ... a weakened America.

Can it be that the future of this country is going to depend on millions of voters snapping out of it – escaping the cult – and actually sitting back for a little session of sober thought on the choices at hand?

EUROPE LOVES BARACK? BE CAREFUL OF THE REASONS

Prior to the talk radio forum at the U.S. Embassy in Dublin last week we met in a conference room with the moderator. He had done a bit of Internet research and had some questions. One of the things he was curious about was the FairTax. I gave him a brief explanation and he told me that "An idea like that will send chills down the spines of the people in this country." Later, during the forum, he explained that Ireland's economy is booming precisely because of U.S. tax policies, particularly the high taxes we levy on businesses and corporations. Much of the "Irish Miracle," as they call it, can be credited to U.S. businesses moving operations overseas to Ireland in search of a more favorable tax climate.

So, what does this have to do with Obama? Simple. He's a tax kind of guy. Some European business leaders see him as good for their economy because he's all about raising taxes back home. The more onerous our tax burden in the U.S., the better it is for European economies. Reason enough to love Obama.

OH .. BY THE WAY.

All three network anchors are following Barack Obama on his Euro-mania tour. A few weeks ago John McCain went to Columbia. Somehow I don't remember the media making such a big deal out of that trip. But .. then again ... John McCain isn't the second coming of Christ, is he? I just have to keep reminding myself of that, and then all of this ... the halo pictures ... this week's Newsweek cover picture ... will all make so much more sense.

I TOLD YOU SO

The American Physical Society represents 50,000 physicists. A unit of the APS called the Physics and Society Forum has declared that many of its members do not buy into OwlGore's apocalyptic man-made global warming scheme.

The Physics & Society Forum of the American Physical Society wrote, "There is a considerable presence within the scientific community of people who do not agree with the IPCC conclusion that anthropogenic CO2 emissions are very probably likely to be primarily responsible for global warming that has occurred since the Industrial Revolution."

Perhaps the primary instigator for this was the publication of a paper by Lord Monckton, which mathematically proves that there is no "climate crisis." Monckton uses 30 equations to prove that "the computer models used by the UN's climate panel (the IPCC) were pre-programmed with overstated values for the three variables whose product is 'climate sensitivity' (temperature increase in response to greenhouse-gas increase), resulting in a 500-2000% overstatement of CO2's effect on temperature in the IPCC's latest climate assessment report." In other words ... the UN's models were wrong. They were programmed to give you these fraudulently hyped numbers to scare people into acting.

Here are a few other facts published by Lord Monckton:

• The IPCC's 2007 climate summary overstated CO2's impact on temperature by 500-2000%;
• CO2 enrichment will add little more than 1 °F (0.6 °C) to global mean surface temperature by 2100;
• Not one of the three key variables whose product is climate sensitivity can be measured directly;
• The IPCC's values for these key variables are taken from only four published papers, not 2,500;
• The IPCC's values for each of the three variables, and hence for climate sensitivity, are overstated;
• "Global warming" halted ten years ago, and surface temperature has been falling for seven years;
• Not one of the computer models relied upon by the IPCC predicted so long and rapid a cooling;
• The IPCC inserted a table into the scientists' draft, overstating the effect of ice-melt by 1000%;
• It was proved 50 years ago that predicting climate more than two weeks ahead is impossible;
• Mars, Jupiter, Neptune's largest moon, and Pluto warmed at the same time as Earth warmed;
• In the past 70 years the Sun was more active than at almost any other time in the past 11,400 years.

Now can I say it ... for all of you global warmers out there who have your thongs in a wad over the poor polar bears or ice caps or rising seas .... I told you so.

I KNOW WHAT WE SHOULD DO ... RAISE TAXES!

Congress is currently considering the idea of raising fuel taxes by ten cents. Right now we pay 18.4 cents a gallon on gas and 24.3 cents on diesel. Congress thinks that this would be a great time to increase those taxes that you are paying at the pump.

Why???? Well, it seems that our federal government doesn't have enough money to spend on highway projects. The chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Jim Oberstar presented the House with a list of how many jobs we will lose if we don't continue to spend tax dollars on highway construction and infrastructure. Oberstar says, "We'll put all things on the table ... but the gas tax is the cornerstone. Nothing else will work without the underpinning of the higher user fee gas tax." Gas tax revenues are down, of course, because the high price of gas is forcing people to consume less.

Here's an FYI for you ... If you include state and local taxes, Americans pay about 47 cents on average in taxes for a gallon of gas. In many European countries, gas costs $8 to $9 a gallon, and at least half of that goes to taxes.

A WITHDRAWAL PLAN?

Iraqi Prime Minister al-Maliki had an interview with a German magazine last week. During the interview he claimed to support Barack Obama's proposal to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq within 16 months.

Al-Maliki said, "U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months ... That, we think, would be the right time frame for a withdrawal, with the possibility of slight changes." And let the backtracking begin. A spokesman for al-Maliki says that his remarks "were misunderstood, mistranslated and not conveyed accurately." Al-Maliki is not endorsing Barack Obama over John McCain. But one thing has become clear: Iraq wants the tenure of US troops to be limited.

Of course, here comes Nancy Pelosi who is eager to jump on this as a victory for Democrats.

BAGGY PANTS LAWS

Oh come on now. Some communities around the country are passing laws against wearing your pants below your underwear. Not good. If these idiot kids can't wear those baggy pants six inches below their beltline, how in the hell are we going to identify the idiot kids? Allow people to make idiots of themselves. It helps in the natural selection process.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Phil Gramm, who was absolutely right in saying that we have become a nation of whiners, stepped down from the McCain campaign. Too bad .. he had it right.

You can say that Obama is "moving to the center" of the political spectrum, but the fact of the matter is that he has the most liberal voting record in the Senate.

These journalists just can't get enough of their Messiah ... particularly when he goes overseas. Never mind that John McCain has taken 3 trips overseas in the past few months.

An Arizona state appeals court has upheld that illegal immigrants can be convicted for conspiracy to smuggling themselves into the country.

The city of San Francisco admits that most homeless people actually have homes ... because your tax dollars paid for them. $186 million worth of homes for the homeless.

The United Nations is apparently very concerned about the number of traffic deaths. Oh great ... let's get this incompetent and essentially anti-American organization involved in he creation and enforcement of traffic laws.

How about free heating oil for "poor" people in New Hampshire to heat their homes in the winter ... from Hugo Chavez.

When shop owners in Canada take care of their own property by sweeping their sidewalks, guess who gets upset? The unions, which apparently claim the exclusive domain of sidewalk cleaning. Unions ... gotta love 'em.

A teenage girl in the UK was accused of racism and interrogated by police because she didn't want to sit with a group of students at school that didn't speak English.

A man was put in jail for having a gun in his hotel room because the hotel is owned by the University of Georgia and violates state law, which forbids weapons in school safety zones.

This is a story about how rough people have it in Ohio these days. Some people can't even afford to buy meat ... looks like these two ladies can still afford McDonalds.

Apparently many residents of Fairfax County have their boxers in a bunch over duck hunting.

A man is suing a local shop for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act because the store owner wouldn't let the man wear in-line skates in the store. Are you ready for loser pays yet?

A neighbor wins in court to have a kid's tree house taken down because "it offered an inappropriate view in their windows."

Here's another one of these stories where a town wants to ban the throwing of candy during parades because it might hurt the children. The wussification of America proceeds apace.

Government schools in Great Britain are going to start teaching Islamic traditions and values in their compulsory citizenship lessons. As I said last week .. that place is absolutely crawling with Muslims.
