A NOTE FROM NEAL Even though I'm on vacation this week ... with cell phones turned off ... I've been waiting for the Supremes to issue their ruling on our right to own guns. Finally the Supreme Court, though by a narrow margin, has ruled that the 2nd Amendment protects the rights of citizens not the rights of government. Good news for those who believe in the sanctity of the individual, bad news for those that believe we are here merely to serve the ends of government. Here's something else you may want to ponder as the uproar over this ruling spreads. (Oh, those poor Brady people). Without the appointments made to the Supreme Court by George W. Bush this probably would have been completely different. With Al Gore in the presidency your right to own a gun for self-defense would have been ripped away today. Thank you Florida .. and see you on Monday. READING ASSIGNMENTS This is Barack Obama's reaction to the Supreme Court ruling on the DC gun law ban ... the Second Amendment is an individual right. What a concept?! Here's John McCain and Barack Obama going at it over the DC gun ban ruling. Basically, does Barack Obama really mean what he said in the reading assignment above? In the wake of the Supreme Court decision, Nancy Pelosi says that DC will still be able to regulate firearms. The NRA is already working on overturning Chicago's ban on handguns. President Bush has pledged to remove North Korea from the U.S. list of states that sponsor terrorism because of its commitment to dismantling its nuclear weapons program. The Wall Street Journal has a great comparison of global warming and yellow journalism. A new study by the National Council on Teacher Quality found that elementary school teachers are not being properly prepared by their education schools to teach math. Your government education at work. In North Carolina you'll now be able to replace your "WTF" license plate for free because it may be offensive. An annual 4th of July All-Star baseball game in Ohio was canceled because "certain kids were being singled out as better players than others." The wussification of America continues. The city government of Santa Fe is considering making those evil rich people pay more to buy their expensive houses, which will fund housing for police officers, nurses, and teachers to live in the city. Some teenager in Florida thought it would be cool to go swimming in a canal infested with alligators at 2am. The result: his arm was ripped off by an 11-foot alligator. Now he is blaming the incident on the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for not properly controlling the alligator population. A computer error at a gas station in Cincinnati led to gas being sold for $1.40 instead of $4.10 ... you know what happens next. Muslims in Great Britain are offended by the sniffer dogs used by police for security on trains. Gee, I can't imagine why Olga didn't call Dimitri back? A lesson on how NOT to leave a voicemail for a woman you met on the street. Piggish link of the day: girl soldiers of Israel. |
