 HOLD ON FOR A WILD RIDE
The next two days are going to be pivotal in the 2008 election. Hillary
and Barack are squaring off in two key states, Texas and Ohio. There
are as many different opinions as to what Hillary has to accomplish in these
two contests as there are pundits expressing them. Hillary has to win
both. No, Hillary only has to win one. Hillary can lose both and
still carry her campaign forward. No … Hillary is toast regardless
of what happens.
The best possible outcome? For me that would be no definitive outcome
at all. Let’s hand out some delegates both Obama and for Hillary,
while leaving no commanding lead. The cause of liberty will be served
well by a continuation of the pissing contest between these two. Take
it all the way to the convention. Let them keep arguing over who is going
to raise taxes on the evil rich the most. Let them keep playing a game
of one-upsmanship on who is going to do the most thorough job of expanding
government control over our free markets. Let them try to best each other
over who is going to take the most money from our energy companies and pour
it into the political pork coffers of the imperial federal government. Let
Hillary continue to tout her imaginary experience in the White house while
Obama’s folks continue to hand out “Change we can believe in” signs
to people who really have no clue, other than celebrity worship, why they’re
standing there at that rally in the first place. Let those who love freedom
and celebrate individualism develop a growing sense of unease and perhaps even
disgust at the statist rhetoric of these two anti-capitalists.
This would be much more fun if it wasn’t so threatening to our country
and the future of American liberty.
THE 3:00 A.M. CAMPAIGN AD.
Did you hear about the dueling 3:00 a.m. campaign ads over the weekend? First
of all .. these ads are decades old. Walter Mondale used the same ad
against Gary Hart. Carter used it against Reagan. Bush v. Kerry … there
it was. The message: When that red phone rings in the White House
at three in the morning you want to make sure the right person is there to
answer it. Hillary’s message was that when the crisis erupts, she
is the one with all the experience.
OK .. a question? Can someone please tell me what national crisis Hillary
has ever handled? There was a conference call this weekend between the
media and some of Hillary’s campaign staffers. That very question
was asked: “What crisis has Hillary ever handled?” The
campaign staff stumbled around for a bit, and then responded with “She’s
on the Armed Services Committee.” Wow! I feel much better
already. I guess that means that every single Senator serving on the
Armed Services Committee is qualified to be president by virtue of the fact
that they have all that experience handling crises.
The ugly truth here? The only crisis Hillary ever faced at 3:00 a.m.
during her years in the White House was trying to figure out where in the hell
her “husband” was.
OBAMA’S RESPONSE AD
 Almost immediately Obama’s campaign staff comes right back at her with
their own 3:00 a.m. ad. In this version Barack Obama is obviously the
one you want to answer the phone. Why? Well, because it was Obama “Who
understood that the real threat to America was Al Qaeda in Afghanistan.”
Now think for a moment about Obama’s ad. By stating that the real
threat to America was Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, Obama seems to be saying that
Al Qaeda anywhere other than Afghanistan isn’t a threat. This has
been a favored argument of the left for the past year. Fighting Al Qaeda
in Afghanistan was OK … but you can’t fight them anywhere else. Excuse
me … but didn’t about 15 of the 9/11 hijackers hail not from Afghanistan,
but from Saudi Arabia? Didn’t Al Qaeda bomb the USS Cole in Yemen? How
about the Khobar Towers. Was that in Afghanistan? This “It’s
OK to fight Al Qaeda in Afghanistan” argument is for simpletons. Sadly,
that description fits the democrat voter profile all too well.
And what about Al Qaeda in Iraq? Obama says that there was no Al Qaeda
in Iraq until George Bush invaded. Sorry .. wrong. Now there’s
no way the left is ever going to admit it, but the intelligence evidence that
Al Qaeda was operating in sections of Iraq. Facts are troublesome things.
HILLARY’S OHIO ANECDOTE
 Speaking late afternoon at a rally in Akron, Ohio. Hillary spins
a story about a young girl in Ohio that was working in a pizza parlor or some
such place. Sure enough, she ends up pregnant. She’s having
some trouble with the pregnancy and goes to the doctor. She is told that
she’ll have to pay at least $100 for the doctor’s appointment. She
doesn’t have the money, so she goes home. Eventually both the girl
and her baby die … though we’re not told from what. Hillary
then tells the audience that “It is morally wrong that a young woman
should be denied medical care.”
OK … let’s talk about “morally wrong.” First … we
have no names (at least not yet) and no details about Hillary’s touching
story. We don’t know whether or not this woman tried to avail herself
of a local government medical clinic. We don’t know if she presented
herself to some charitable organizations for help. What DO we know? We
know that she was not married. She lacked marketable job skills as evidenced
by her pizza job, and that she engaged in careless and unsafe sex. Isn’t
there something “morally wrong” with a young woman getting pregnant
with a baby she has absolutely no ability to care for without relying on the
government to seize another’s property for her benefit?
While the left is pontificating about morals, you will never hear them address
the possibility that there is something wrong with irresponsible decisions
that lead to the confiscation of another person’s property. We’ve
created this mindset in this country that it is perfectly OK to take any action
or make any decision you like, no matter how irresponsible, and then sit while
the government makes everything just fine … using someone else’s
life and property. Ignore your education; obligate yourself for those
expensive car payments instead of buying a health insurance policy; and get
knocked up by just about anyone … and the government is there to take
care of you.
Can you imagine what our society might be like of people grew up understanding
that they were going to be held responsible for the stupid and irresponsible
decisions in their lives? Wouldn’t it be amazing if people actually
thought before they acted … and they did so because the nanny government
wasn’t waiting there to protect them from their own idiocy? With
our government schools, that will never be our reality.
How many of you really want to live in an assisted care living center. Well
.. that’s what we’re building here: entitlement program by
entitlement program – Democrat by Democrat – our country is turning
into a glorified nursing home.
Oh .. and don’t you just love Hillary preaching to us about morals? Come
on, folks … is this really the woman we want to turn to for lectures
on what is morally wrong and what isn’t?
GIVE BACK YOUR PROFITS
Coming soon to America … the British government is ordering the heads
of the biggest gas and electricity companies to
hand over part of the profits. If they don’t, they will face
a new windfall tax.
The companies are being told that they must agree to subsidize a new nationwide “fuel
poverty” scheme to help 4.5 million of the poorest households. If
the companies do not agree, a levy will be put on their profits. This
poverty scheme is set to be unveiled as part of the budget in a few weeks.
The British government is taking these rich, evil profits in order to curtail
what they consider “excessive profiteering” by the utilities industry. Customers
are apparently paying soaring household gas and electricity bills while the
evil corporations claim profits that have increased by $5 billion in the past
three years.
Now you just know that American politicians – probably on both sides
fo the aisles – are going to jump on this like a crow on a June bug. Democrats,
with no small amount of help from across the aisle, have been demonizing the
idea of profits for decades. It’s all part of a campaign to attack
free enterprise while strengthening government control over our economy. Again … with
generations of government education in this country it won’t be difficult
at all for our politicians to pick up where these Brit socialists leave off.
TAX BREAKS FOR HUGO CHAVEZ
No this is not a joke … this is just your American Congress doing what
it can to help out a rich, socialist dictator. The House passed legislation
last week that repeals subsidies for five major oil and gas companies in order
to offset $18.1 billion in renewable-energy tax breaks. However, Citgo
Petroleum Corp. would continue to receive the 6% deduction for domestic manufacturing. Citgo
is owned by a subsidiary of Hugo Chavez’s Petróleos de Venezuela. Apparently
since Citgo does not drill for oil and gas domestically or abroad, it fails
to fall under the bill’s definition of companies that will be losing
the tax break.
Does that make any sense at all? The five companies that this bill targeted
-- Chevron, BP, ExxonMobil, Shell and ConocoPhillips — all produce and
refine and sell in the United States. And because they are domestic,
they are going to lose this tax deduction while Hugo Chavez gets to hang on
to his. We are giving him money out of our tax payer dollars while limiting
our own resources domestically.
This is your MoveOn Democrat Congress at work, ladies and gentlemen.
GOVERNMENT EDUCATION IS BETTER
Or so says a California court. A court in California has ruled that
children in a
homeschool family must be enrolled in a government school or “legally
qualified” private school. Oh and they must actually attend
those schools.
Here’s what this left coast court had to say: “We find no reason
to strike down the Legislature’s evaluation of what constitutes an adequate
education scheme sufficient to promote the ‘general diffusion of knowledge
and intelligence,’” the court said in the case. “We agree … ‘the
educational program of the State of California was designed to promote the
general welfare of all the people and was not designed to accommodate the personal
ideas of any individual in the field of education.’”
The government must control the minds of your children. Are you complicit?
SAUDI UNIVERSITY IN AMERICA
When it comes to higher education (at the expense of the taxpayers) the University
of California at Berkeley has decided that it would be a wise investment to
team up with Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. Under
the current arrangement, Berkeley faculty members would collaborate with our
Saudi “friends” on research projects, and they would help the Saudi
university hire professors. The university, which is known as KAUST,
is currently supposed to open in September of 2009.
The price tag? Only $10 billion dollars. But I am glad to report
that there are a precious few who are actually concerned that this Saudi university
will discriminate against women (and others, like homosexuals) and limit academic
freedom. For example, another pending deal for a Saudi-engineering school – partnered
with California Polytechnic State University – would only allow men to
be qualified to teach engineering classes at the school.
Sounds like the America I know and love.
Meanwhile from Saudi Arabia … on Sunday it officially compared
the Israel Defense Forces’ in Gaza to Nazi war crimes, and it is
calling on the international community to stop these “mass killings” of
Palestinians. All the while the so-called “Palestinians” continue
to lob rockets into Israeli territory with nary a squawk from our “friends” in
Saudi Arabia.
