IOWA

There will be plenty of discussion of the Iowa Caucus on the air today ... so no sense in spilling all of the beans in the notes.  For those of you who care, and there are many who don't, the winners were Mike Huckabee and Barack Obama.  Hillary Clinton came in third.

Here are the results with 100 percent of precincts reporting:

Democrats:

Obama           38%

Edwards         30%

Clinton            29%

Richardson      2%

Gravel and Kucinich didn't even get one percent of the vote.

Republicans:

Huckabee      34%

Romney          25%

Thompson      13%

McCain           13%

Paul                10%

Rudy didn't play in Iowa, so his 4% isn't really a meaningful indicator.

I saw tape of Hillary screeching this morning that they were now going to "take this enthusiasm" to New Hampshire.  Enthusiasm?  What enthusiasm?  As Peggy Noonan says, Hillary had the money, she had the organization, she had Bill ... and she lost.  She came in third.  She didn't even carry the female vote .. that went to Obama.  Perhaps the more people see of Hillary Clinton the more they're reminded of her lies, her meanness and her seemingly unquenchable desire for power.  Look at Hillary and you see:

  • Whitewater, Casa Grande and her role in those scams
  • "Fire their asses!"  The order given by Hillary to sack the White House Travel Office
  • Marines being used to hand out canapés at White House functions
  • Her obstruction of justice and perjury in the Rose Law Firm billing records scandal.
  • Craig Livingstone and the cache of FBI files
  • The "I want to take those profits" moment.
  • Leading the effort to destroy the women involved with her husband.

Oh yeah .. there's more, and (again) as Peggy Noonan says in this column:  "There's something about her that makes you look, watch, think, look again, weigh and say:  No."

As for the Republicans and Mike Huckabee.  Listening to the pundits this morning, all of them attribute his victory to the fact that he's an evangelical Christian and Iowa is a hotbed of like-minded people.  Not once this morning did I hear any mention of the role that the FairTax might have played in his victory.  Listen and you hear the media saying "Yeah, Huckabee won, but that was because of all those Christians in Iowa.  He's not going to have all those Christians in New Hampshire to help him win there."  They actually make it sound like Huckabee contracted some sort of a virus in Iowa that will not survive in the Northeast.

No ... I don't think that the FairTax propelled Huckabee to victory, but I do think it was certainly a factor.  Apparently the opinion makers agree, because there has been no dearth of attempts to destroy Huckabee by demagoging the FairTax.  Those who have a vested interest in the current tax system seem somewhat concerned.

On, now, to New Hampshire.  Belinda and I will be flying to Manchester on Sunday and will be broadcasting from the scene of the crime, if you will, on Monday and Tuesday.

YOUR PREDICTIONS

We put up polls yesterday asking you who would win Iowa. Just for fun, here are the results:

Which Democratic candidate will win the Iowa Caucus?

Joe Biden -----1%
Hillary Clinton -----19%
Chris Dodd ----- 2%
John Edwards ----- 8%
Mike Gravel ----- 2%
Dennis Kucinich ----- 2%
Barack Obama ----- 66%
Bill Richardson ----- 1%
Which Republican candidate will win the Iowa Caucus?

Rudy Guiliani ----- 3%
Mike Huckabee ----- 39%
Duncan Hunter ----- 4%
John McCain ----- 3%
Ron Paul ----- 22%
Mitt Romney ----- 24%
Fred Thompson ----- 6%

Looks like you didn't count on Edwards doing as well as he did. And obviously legions of Ron Paulistas visited the Republican poll.... but basically you guys got the winners. Good job! Now, do you have any stock tips?

FAIRTAX: THE TRUTH

Speaking of the FairTax.  As you know, Congressman Linder and I have written another book, "FairTax, The Truth: Answering the Critics"  The book debuts on Tuesday, February 12th.  Yesterday morning the book was number 2,600+ on Amazon.com. By yesterday afternoon it had moved to No. 18.  If you want the FairTax to be an issue in New Hampshire .. if you want the media to pay attention .. and, most of all, if you want to see the critics have to deal with the facts, putting this book at the top of the bestseller's list would be one of the ways to go.  You can order a copy .. or multiple copies if you're so inclined, by clicking here

RUDY USING IMAGES OF 9/11

Do you think it's distasteful that Rudy Giuliani is using images of 9/11 in campaign commercials?
Yes
No
Who is this "Rudy Giuliani" guy and why should I care?
Rudy Giuliani is running some ads in New Hampshire that include video images from the Islamic attack on America on 9/11.  Apparently this is supposed to be a bad thing!  We have a capable and well-armed enemy out there, Islamic radicals, who want to destroy us ... and it's a bad thing to feature some of the damage they've already done in a campaign commercial.  Yeah, right?

Who would object to this?  That's an easy one.  The people who don't have the guts to confront this threat, and the courage to respond to it, certainly don't want people to be reminded of the threat we face through a campaign commercial.

Keep running the ads, Rudy.  People need reminding.

THE RIGHT TO VOTE

Lately we've been getting a lot of these "right to vote" emails.  Well now it seems that even Europeans want the "right to vote" ... in American elections.  An editorial in the Brussels Journal explains that American presidential elections are not "home affairs."  Because the US elections impact the entire world, the editors of the Brussels Journal feel that they should have their say.  Yup, you got it ... the Euro-weenies now seem to feel that they have some sort of a right to participate in U.S. presidential elections.

The editorial says, "Hence, the world should be given the right to vote. Because the current situation is a blatant case of taxation without representation, against which the Americans rebelled in 1776."

What?  What in the world are they snorting at the editorial board meetings at the Brussels Journal?

American citizens don't even have a right to vote in presidential elections – and now these clowns want their votes to count?  The trouble here is that Democrats might actually embrace the idea.  After all, if there is a group of people who could be counted on to go along with the weakness personified by the MoveOn Democrats, it would be the Euro-wimps.

UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE IN S.F.

The city of San Francisco now has a program to provide medical care for uninsured adults who are not covered by the Medi-Cal program.  Starting in January, city officials plan to expand the eligibility to all of its remaining 26,000 uninsured residents, in addition to thousands of "non residents" that are working in San Francisco for companies with no healthcare coverage.  There's a catch. This expansion of this welfare program is supposed to be funded by the employers who are not providing coverage.  In other words, this San Francisco healthcare ordinance requires employers to offer health care coverage, and if they do not offer coverage, they will are forced to pay a fee to the city to support this new government-run healthcare program.

Funding for this new program is "projected" to cost $200 million per year.  Yeah, since when has a projected cost for any entitlement program actually been accurate?  The funding comes from state and local taxes, patient payments based on income, and contributions (mandatory fees) from employers who don't offer insurance.

San Francisco is a great city with a horrid government.  How long will it take the San Francisco leaders to destroy it all?

GLOBAL WARMING

Freezing temperatures and snow in Mexico.  In Mexico?  How are they keeping the tortillas warm?

And now scientists are predicting a "slightly cooler" 2008.  Although these scientists still believe that 1998 is the warmest year on record ...

Will 2008 be the year that we come to recognize that the who global warming scare has been nothing but a scam?  One can only hope.
