EVENT FOR WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT .. THURSDAY EVENING
First, to learn more about the Wounded Warrior Project, just click here. Now, if you think that this is an organization worthy of support, then we're in agreement. That's why my wife is hosting a fundraiser for the WWP at the Ravinia Club here in Atlanta on Thursday evening from 5:30 to 8:00.
Clark Howard and I will both be there signing books. 100% of the proceeds from those book sales go to the WWP. We're also going to auction off several items donated by Atlanta-area businesses and some of my sponsors. I just can't name them all here, but they include: - Four round-trip business class tickets on AirTran Airways.
- Now this is very special: Bid to have Banks & Shane come to your party and perform!
- A complete desktop computer from Vision.
- A diamond necklace appraised at $3,500 from Solomon Brothers
- Two trips to the BMW Performance Center in Greenville, SC for you chance to take some BMWs out on the Performance Center track and "other roads" course. This from United BMW Gwinnett.
- A U.S. Flag flown over the U.S. Capitol donated by Senator Johnny Isakson.
- Four tickets to a Georgia Bulldog football game donated by Ray Goff.
- A flat-screen HDTV donated by Georgia Home Theatre.
- Dinners at several of Atlanta's best restaurants, including Ray's on the River, LaGrotta at Ravinia.
There are many more items donated by some great people. I'll try to mix things up here and mention them. The main thing is that you come by the Ravinia Club (Perimeter Center area) on Thursday evening to do a little grippin' and grinnin' and participate in a very worthy cause. Here are your directions! |
INTIFADA NYC. YOUR TAX MONEY AT WORK
A Muslim school is opening in Brooklyn next month and guess who's paying for it. Well, that didn't take you very long, did it? You're right. The taxpayers. The very people whom so many radical Muslims want to kill are going to pay for a nice little Muslim school in New York. Try that with a Christian school and see how far you get.
Wait! There's more! It seems that the principal (taxpayer paid, or course) of the Khalil Gibran International Academy, Dhabah "Debbie" Almontaser, is under more heat ... as if she wasn't already. A group called Arab Women Active in Art and Media has created a T-shirt that says "Intifada NYC." Where have you heard that word before? Well, it seems that Intifada (for all you government educated) is the name most often associated with the violent Palestinian uprising against Israel. We're also learning that the founders of this group with their fancy t-shirts are are also active in a more militant pro-Palestinian group, which knowingly supports Hezbollah and Hamas. The Arab Women Active in Art and Media share an office in Brooklyn with the Saba Association of American Yemenis, headed by Almontaser. Her response to the T-shirt inspiring war in New York City, "I think it's pretty much an opportunity for girls to express that they are part of New York City society . . . and shaking off oppression." "Shaking off oppression"?? Is that what she is going to teach in her taxpayer funded madrassa? Why, my friends, do taxpayers have to be forced at the point of a gun, I might add to finance this nonsense? Haven't we gone just a bit far with this politically correct crap by now? PRIVATIZING THE BRIDGES
Here's a concept that Congress hasn't though of ... if there is a problem with infrastructure, why not let the private sector fix it! Or maybe Congress did think about that response but refuses to ignore it, because it would take away their power. That's probably a more likely scenario. The costs of overhauling US infrastructure are astronomical. Texas estimates having to spend $100 billion just to keep up with growth, mush less maintain existing roads. And Oregon estimates $1.3 billion a year. Each state has similarly startling figures. In Indiana governor Mitch Daniels decided that he wasn't going to sit around and wait for federal subsidies or increase taxes on his constituents. Needing a quick $3 billion for his state's transportation needs, he decided to auction off the rights to the Indiana Toll Road. It's so very simple. Auction off the rights to the road and, in essence, you have the private sector paying .. big bucks .. for the right to collect tolls on those roads ... or bridges. Right now 23 states currently have laws to allow public-private deals of this type. Democrats aren't too happy. Democratic congressman Peter DeFazio of Oregon says that Indiana is "giving away" a valuable taxpayer asset. No, Congressman .. Indiana is giving away noting. Indiana is considering selling a state-owned asset to private enterprise for a price! Perhaps that price will even include a revenue-sharing agreement with the state whereby Indiana will still collect revenues from the tolls, but will have absolutely no responsibility for maintenance and repair! Sounds like a pretty good deal from my side of this computer screen. LET'S SPEND MORE!
By the way, you're going to hear more and more from the political types in DC about spending even more and more money on infrastructure repairs. Some of these politicians will actually, though it is hard to believe, be responsible enough to suggest that the money for these bridge repairs should come from spending cuts in other areas. That will go over like a pregnant Nun. There is never any limit to how much these politicians can tax and spend ... but when someone comes forward and suggests cutting spending in virtually any government program, you would think that they had just endorsed smashing puppies with sledge hammers.
Why are we in such trouble when it comes to infrastructure repairs? Oh come on now. That one's easy. We're in trouble because it is so much more sexy for a politician to spend money on a new bridge or highway than it is to spend money repairing an old one. Think about it. If you notice crews busy at work on the framing of a bridge the next time you drive across the chances are you aren't going to be all that impressed. They could be replacing corroded parts, new bolts, reinforcing spans; doing all sorts of things to make that bridge stronger, but it's hardly going to elicit more than a yawn and perhaps a curious glance as you drive by. After all, when they're through doing their job, no matter how much it costs to get that job done right, you aren't going to have one thing you didn't have before they started. It's still the same old bridge crossing the same old river, highway or railroad track. Big deal. However ... if that money is spent on a new bridge, instead of repairing an old one ... now you have the people's interest! There are the huge construction cranes and all of the equipment building a brand new bridge! When they're finished you are going to have a fancy new bridge that will make your trip to somewhere or other much more convenient! You tell me. If you were a congressman what do you think would bring you the most positive reaction to your constituents? One the one hand you can tell them that you're making sure that the 10th Street bridge remains safe. On the other hand you can tell them that you have brought the money home to build a brand new bridge! In just two years the voters will have a brand-spanking new 1st Avenue bridge! You know the answer. And now you know why we have so many bridges in need of repair. A DAILY KOS UPDATE
Yesterday I brought you news about the recent Yearly Kos convention in Chicago. That's the convention of leftist bloggers where they silenced a uniformed soldier to keep him from expressing his opinion on the war in Iraq needless to say, he didn't agree with the leftist panel that was discussing "the Military and Progressives." I also told you yesterday about a writer for Daily Kos, who referred to our troops as "morally retarded." There, dear listeners, is a nice window into what these leftist footstools really think of our troops. Now I have another little goody for you. It's a blog called Duvallbuck's Diary. In this blog you will find an incredibly moronic piece of complete bullshit. The writer says that he would "rather die in a terrorist attack then have a CIA operative outed by the Office of the Vice President because her husband wrote an op-ed telling the truth about lies told by President Bush." Now ... never mind that the aforementioned op-ed actually lied about the truths being told by President Bush. We don't want to confuse this leftist blogger with any facts. He seems to be quite on the edge already. And, as usual .. .there's more! This blogger also says that he would rather die in a terrorist (we assume he means "Islamic" terrorist) that have to endure any of the following: - The domestic surveillance of any citizen's email, phone calls, medical records, library usage or financial transactions.
- Forsaking the Geneva conventions in the name of our nation.
- Giving up anyone's right of habeas corpus.
A few more people like him in our country and he may get his wish. AMERICAN IDOL IDIOCY
There they were yesterday. The temperature in Dallas, Texas yesterday was nothing less than hot as hell, and the humidity was just as high. Fifteen thousand people were standing there in the 100 degree heat waiting. Waiting for what? For their American Idol audition.
Let's say that they were offering 10 college scholarships. Just 10. A full scholarship covering four years in a top university. Let's also say that there were going to be auditions for these scholarships in about 15 American cities .. and that over a period of months they would work their way down to the 10 winners. Do you think for a minute that there would be 15,000 people standing around in 100 degree heat to get their chance at one of these college scholarships? No. You couldn't possibly be that stupid. We hope. THE AMAZING JUAN WILLIAMS
You've seen him many nights on Special Report with Brit Hume. Seems like a great guy, though he is a liberal reporter with NPR. (Please forgive the redundancy.) Last night Williams made an appearance on O'Reilly. I was watching because Michelle (Sigh!) Malkin was subbing for Mr. Nice Guy. The conversation was about the hateful language you find on websites such as the Daily Kos against President Bush. I want to tell you that finally someone has come up with a good excuse for the hateful language leftists use against Bush and other conservatives. That someone would be none other than Juan Williams. When Michelle Malkin asked Williams for a comment on the language used by the left his amazing response was "Hey, talk radio started it!" I feel so much better now. READING ASSIGNMENTS Ohmigod! SUCH bad news for Democrats! A USA Today poll shows that support is growing for the surge in Iraq. Maybe people do actually like a winner! Two U.N. members have been arrested for being involved in a visa fraud scheme, where they used U.N. stationary to create legal documents. Why do some candidates have such a hard time understanding the FairTax? Hillary .. on the way up! Obama, on the way out? Please, or please ... let it be Hillary! A new blog for you to bookmark! Rightwing Nuthouse! You also might want to check out Pajamas Media! If you're a rational thinking person this isn't going to make any sense to you at all. Not one bit. But here's an article from espn.com in which we are told that many black people, perhaps most black people, think this whole Michael Vick thing is racially motivated. Here we have pictures of Vick interspaced with pictures of the civil rights struggles, including pictures of murdered blacks. Isn't it just so wonderful to have such a handy built-in excuse for every mistake and misstep you make? Bush and Karzai have been meeting at Camp David, and believe that they can work together to fight al Qaeda. Former Majority Leader John Boehner has had enough with the current Congress after he claims the Democrats "stole" a vote last Thursday night. A Muslim man murdered a journalist for writing critical articles on Your Black Muslim Bakery in Oakland. School choice! Now this guy gets it, but I'll take some of the credit. French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been vacationing in the U.S. His reason for coming here ... "I like it here." The French aren't too happy about that. Iran has shut down another newspaper. This paper published an interview with a woman who was accused of being homosexual. Inmates in a prison controlled by Hamas in the Gaza Strip can reduce their sentences if they memorize five chapters of the Quran. The University of Michigan released an email from a professor, protesting the Muslim students' protests to the Danish Cartoon debacle. He is now being asked to do mandatory diversity training. Here's a pathetic news story. Rudy Giuliani's daughter is backing Obama ... and we know this through a college networking site, Facebook. We knew this one was coming. Liberal bloggers are now considering forming a labor union. A couple asked the police to help find their missing dog. As a reward, the couple gave a $250,000 donation to the police department. Some 'Pacman' Jones news ... he's getting into pro-wrestling. The Southern Christian Leadership Conference decided against honoring Vick at its convention this week. No worries, he's being "honored" in a different sort of way by a company out of Jacksonville. |
