CLEMENCY FOR LIBBY

President Bush's action on Libby...
Clemency was the right thing to do
Libby should be pardoned
Libby should have served the time
Wow! Are the Democrats going to have a field day with this one. Stand by for the outrage.

President Bush has granted executive clemency to Scooter Libby. This is not a pardon. Bush stated that he respected the jury's verdict. He felt, however, that the 30-month sentence was too harsh, so that portion of Libby's sentence was commuted by Bush.

In the Democrat hell-raising that is sure to follow I'm sure the media is going to ignore some of the pardons handed out by Clinton at the end of his term. At least Bush didn't grant clemency as a reward to a community for votes.

The fact is that Libby was prosecuted following an investigation of an action that did not constitute a crime under our laws. The special prosecutor pretended to be looking for the person who had "leaked" Valerie Plame's name to the media ... I say he "pretended" because he knew the identity of that person from the beginning of his investigation. Patrick Fitzgerald packed the Beltway jury with people not exactly in love with George Bush, and then set Libby up as the symbol of the Bush Administration.

Bush has righted a wrong. What's more, he has figuratively flipped off his leftist critics. Gotta love it.

AMNESTY IS NOT DEAD ....

You do realize this, don't you? The idea of amnesty for over 12 million illegal aliens who broke our laws by coming into this country may be off the table ... for now. Just wait, however, until the Democrats have complete control inside the Beltway. Wait until they have their European socialist in the White House.

After the 2008 presidential vote is in Democrats are going to realize that they owe their victories in large part to the Hispanic vote. The 2006 congressional elections showed a huge shift in the Hispanic vote from Republican to Democrat. That will only continue. In spite of the fact that there were many core Democrat groups out there opposed to the amnesty bill (although for different reasons), the defeat is going to be blamed on Republicans. Advocates for the illegals are already churning out the statements and press releases telling us of the efforts of those nasty, white Republicans in defeating this bill. Interestingly, virtually all of those press releases, columns, stories and public utterances somehow fail to mention that these precious "immigrants" that were so horribly mistreated by the evil Republicans were here illegally. They broke the law coming here. They broke the law staying here. And they broke the law working here. Yet in story after you story lamenting the defeat of the amnesty bill you never see even the faintest hint of the fact that laws have been broken.

So .. in the 2008 election two things are going to happen. First, Hispanic voters, both citizens and non-citizens, will turn even more heavily to the Democrat Party. Second, many voters who would be inclined to voted against Democrats will sit on their hands on election day, completely disgusted with a Republican Party that broke the bank on pork spending and doubled the size of government after the congress was handed to them on promises of lowered spending and a smaller federal monolith.

The Social Democrat Party is on a roll. It's hard to imagine that they aren't going to carry the day in 2008. In the meantime, the Republicans have absolutely nothing going for them. Not one cause, not one proposal ... nothing. They couldn't draw voters to the polls if the stubs from your ballots were lottery tickets for a new car to be given away at each precinct.

For the amnesty bill – for legalization for millions of criminal aliens – it's not adios; it's hasta luego.

Oh .. and by the way. Watch the Mexicans swarm across the border over the next 18 months. This way, not that way. They know what's coming, and so do the Mexican officials who will do even more to encourage the illegal migration.

THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE IS NOT DEAD

The Fairness Doctrine lives on. You may remember that House passed that little amendment last week saying that the federal government can't fund the Fairness Doctrine. It's called the Pence Amendment, named after the man who introduced it, a former talk show host and now Republican member of Congress, Mike Pence. Fine.

But didn't I tell you to not get your hopes up? Didn't I tell you last week that this amendment ... even if it were passed by the Senate and became part of the law .. meant next to nothing.

So ... in case you missed my golden words on this subject last week, let me 'splain it to you here in Nealz Nuze.

First: Did you know that this amendment only applies to 2008 appropriations? It does absolutely nothing after 2008. So no wonder it passed! Democrats knew that they couldn't reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine in the current budget anyway! They would have to wait for a Democrat president! Now these Democrats who voted for the amendment, knowing that it was only for the 2008 budget year, can run for office and proudly tell the voters that they stood fast for freedom by denying funding for the Fairness Doctrine!

This amendment, though a strictly temporary positive development for talk radio, cannot prevent re-implementation of the "Fairness" Doctrine. All it does is say that the feds can't spend any money enforcing it. Big deal! Just how much money would it take to enforce the Fairness Doctrine anyway?

Here's your scenario. Let's imagine that the funding prohibition lasted, say, eight years. What's a loyal talk radio-hating Democrat to do?

Here's what. A whiney Democrat becomes our next president. That Democrat then can appoint commissioners to the FCC. There are only five commissioners, and by law only three of those commissioners can be a member of the same political party. Right now there are three Republicans and two Democrats. Sadly, no Libertarians. OK ... So President Rodham gets rid of one Republican commissioner and replaces him with a Democrat. The three Democrats then vote to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine. Thus far not one penny has been spent. All they have done is passed a resolution.

Now ... local broadcasters have a problem. On the one hand, they know that the FCC has reinstated the Fairness Doctrine. On the other hand they know that federal law prevents the FCC from spending any money to enforce the doctrine. So ... what do they do? Well, if I'm a lawyer hired to represent one of these stations I'm going to tell them that the mere fact that no money is appropriated to enforce the Fairness Doctrine does not guarantee that their particular license will be renewed the next time a renewal date rolls around. My advice would be to play it safe, and abide by the Fairness Doctrine.

You think that a Democrat Congress with a Democrat in the White House wouldn't go forward with trying to murder talk radio with this readymade weapon? Who are you kidding? If a Republican congress would pass an anti-free speech atrocity such as the McCain – Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Act, and if a Republican President would sign it even though he had publicly stated his belief that it was unconstitutional, why would you believe that Democrats wouldn't try to destroy talk radio?

Did you know that Representative Pence also introduced something called the Broadcaster's Freedom Act? This act would kill the Fairness Doctrine ... stop it dead in its tracks. How many congressmen was he able to line up in support? Try 111 co-sponsors. That's all. There were 305 that supported the recently passed amendment, but only 111 who would support killing the Fairness Doctrine outright. Why?? Because the amendment was just an empty symbol. It meant nothing. It did nothing more than allow some Democrats to say that they support the end of the Fairness Doctrine, and continue onto bigger and more important things – like pork barrel spending. Now these Democrats who voted for the Pence amendment can sit quietly by while the FCC reinstates the Fairness Doctrine under President Rodham. When questioned they can simply say "Hey, I voted for the Pence Amendment. I'm not the problem here .. the FCC is.

Just to ensure that Pence's crusade is completely wiped out, never to resurrect its ugly conservative head again, Democrats are working on their way to eventually put talk radio away. Cliff Kincaid writes that now Democrats are on a campaign to link talk radio to hate crimes. Hate crimes, folks. Democrats, according to Kincaid, have now requested a federal study of ... now get this ... how "broadcast facilities licensed on behalf of the public by the Federal Communications Commission" have been used to "convey messages of bigotry or hatred, creating a climate of fear and inciting individuals to commit hate crimes."

If the Democrats get their study ... and with them in control of the Congress I think we know how this study would turn out ... then they can move against talk radio with the phony "evidence" of complicity in "hate crimes" on the part of talk radio.

There is a new argument in Washington ... something far beyond just "fairness." The argument this time around is that talk radio is hateful and causing injury and death to people. So just remember that, next time you tune in to the Neal Boortz Show. You are participating in a hate crime – a crime that is based purely on your thoughts. And me, I am your fearless leader, committing crimes of hate with every breath into this microphone. Just wait and see, folks. Democrats can't wait to get their hands on "hate crimes" legislation ... why not take talk radio down with it?

Make no mistake. Liberals absolutely hate talk radio .. they hate it with a blinding, searing passion. They hate it because they know – they've proven to themselves – that they cannot succeed at it. They hate it because their irrationality is laid bare to listening audiences 24/7 on the nation's talk shows. They hate talk radio ... and they have the police power of government on their side. They're moving in for the kill.

ANOTHER HAPPY CUSTOMER - NOT!

Hi Neal,

What has happened to you over the weekend, that has caused you to have a mental regression to some point prior to now? How can you talk about "embracing Muslims BEFORE they start trying to make us convert to their religion" (that is not a direct quote, but close". Is there someone there that can point out to you that that is already happening? Do you not remember all the reports you yourself have given? Remember the cabbies picking who they would haul? Remember the airports having to put in prayer areas? And while we are at it, other than a few (very few) Islamic clerics condemning the Islamic violence, the Muslim community is silent....until THEY feel insulted, that is. Come on Neal, we expect more reality from you and a little less "Ass-Kissing".

Keep up the (usually) good work,

Don Williams,
Deland, FL

IRAN TO BROADCAST "THE TRUTH"

If there is one thing we know by now, it is that no source of media is completely unbiased ... unless you are still drinking the Kool-Aid of liberal mainstream media who will have you believe that they report the facts. Fairly. No bias. Balanced.

That's bull. And Iran's president Ahmadinejad plans to do the same, only better. Because he is Muslim, of course!

Iran is launching an English language satellite television channel so that it can really tell it like it is. Ahmadinejad is sick and tired of the West's influence in reporting the news. Got it? He says, "Press TV should broadcast the truth to the world." Did you hear that? Iran is going to broadcast the truth!

Let's see if we can follow the bouncing ball here:

Apparently the Iranian government is the only one who really knows the truth because because all Western coverage can't be the truth because it is generated and told by evil non-believers. And the Iranian government (not its citizens) are the only ones who really know "the truth" because, well, the channel belongs to Iran's state broadcasting company. And guess what ... it is the only authorized body in the entire country that is allowed to have radio or television channels and since it is controlled by the Mullahs who are mighty fine Muslims, don't you know, then everything that happens on those channels just has to be the only truth worth telling.

I can't wait. Think they'll qualify for any Emmys?

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Michael Barone gets it exactly right? Gets what right? Why the people of this country turned against the "immigration" bill, that's what.

Great read from the London Daily Mail. Hassan Butt was a radical Islamist. Now he has gone in the other direction ... and writes of his experiences. If you don't read any other reading assignment today ... read this one

More updates on the terror plot in Britain. Three doctors are now in custody. The eighth has been arrested.

While Bush isn't pardoning Libby (the non-offender), he stepped in last night and relieved Libby of his 2 ½ year prison term.

It's official. Venezuela's Chavez and Iran's Ahmadinejad are officially partners in crime ... their key issue bonding them together? End U.S. imperialism! That and oil.

Kristen Powers has a few choice words for liberals trying to re-instate the Fairness Doctrine.

I just can't wait until the day that the government can't hold taxes over your head as an incentive or leverage. In Maine, the taxpayers will spend millions of dollars to give tax credits to help cover the cost of college loan payments for students who earn degrees in Maine and stay in the state.

Just counting the days until Fred Thompson announces he is running for president. Some say it will be in the next few weeks. He has leased a building in Nashville for his national headquarters. Hope he has boned up on the FairTax

Democrats (since they control Congress) have approved merely 29% of Bush's appointees from this year. This is a lot lower than his other 6 years in office, and much lower than the 1990s when Republicans ran the Congress under Clinton.

$900,000 to destroy fighter jets? Now there's a waste of taxpayer dollars.

A caller brought this to my attention yesterday. Part of downtown Jacksonville was closed after a bomb threat, caused by a man saying "Allah is great."

This is for all you "Sicko" fans out there ... claiming that Cuba is the beacon of healthcare and societal well-being. Try living on Cuba's food ration, where a papaya (that's a big piece of fruit) will cost you more than an entire day's wage. Now isn't that just a wonderfully free society? Let's put Michael Moore on a papaya diet.

How's this for service? A woman (with no arms) is denied service at a McDonald's after trying to pick up her order with her feet.

Hamas has killed off the Mickey Mouse look alike they were using to urge children to fight Israel in a grisly way. Who here is surprised?
