 THE RALLY WAS A TREMENDOUS SUCCESS! WHEW!
Well .. you came, didn't you? Thousands of you! What a tremendous night it was last night at the Carolina Coliseum. We had about 10,000 seats curtained off, and as I looked around I don't think there were 1000 empty seats ... all of them up near the rafters. So I'll estimate the crowd at between 8,500 and 9,000. What a night! Music from Banks and Shane and the Swinging Medallions ... and appearances by Governor Mike Huckabee, Congressman Duncan Hunter, Sean Hannity and John Stossel. The really amazing part of the rally was when we all left the coliseum with thousands of FairTax signs to march around the Koger Center .. the site of the debate. Everyone was orderly --- but if you'll look at our picture galleries you'll find that we pretty much had all of the territory covered with FairTax supporters. Several anecdotes of encounters with the staff of presidential candidates are starting to filter through. Some McCain staffers questioned some FairTax supporters about how they got there, thinking that they had been bussed in. They seemed impressed that most of the people there had driven to Columbia on their own. There is no doubt that this rally last night had an effect. The crowd was so large that it cannot be ignored. The two big presences in Columbia last night were the presidential candidates and the FairTax. Thanks so much for the sacrifice you made to get there. Now it's on to Ames, Iowa for a rally on the eve of the Iowa Caucus! AN IRREVERENT RECAP FROM LAST NIGHT'S DEBATE Senator Sam Brownback: (here's a hint: never try and mix comedy with biofuels)"How I'd prevent [high gas prices] is us getting more supply in the system through biofuels for one thing, like ethanol from Kansas or maybe Iowa would be a nice state, too, for it to come from...And, we have to in the future work on more conservation here. My family, we have a hybrid car. In that car you can get up to 42, 43 miles to the gallon. Now my 17-year-old daughter does about 25 on it, so it does matter how you drive it." (and nobody laughed...aw) Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee: "We've had Congress that's spent money like Edwards at a beauty shop. And it's high time that we have a different kind of tax structure, and the FairTax would get us there." Former Virginia Governor James Gilmore: (now here's a new strategy: attack your fellow opponents and then refer people to your website for your rebuttle!) "I looked back at the California debates, and I think that some of the people on this stage were very liberal in characterizing themselves as conservatives, particularly on the issues of abortion and taxes and health care. ..And I want to say -- well, let me to say to you that in this forum, it's very difficult to single people out. But I will say this -- we're going to talk about it on my website tomorrow..." Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney: (I can only imagine how he feels about Rudy McRomney) "Look, I've been governor in a pretty tough state. You've heard of blue states. If you ever bought a suit and you look at it and you can't tell if it's blue or black, that's how blue Massachusetts is." Representative Ron Paul: (Question: "Are you suggesting that we invited the 9/11 attack, sir?") "I'm suggesting that we listen to the people who attacked us and the reason they did it, and they are delighted that we're over there because Osama bin Laden has said, "I am glad you're over on our sand because we can target you so much easier." They have already now since that time have killed 3,400 of our men, and I don't think it was necessary." Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani: (uh, huh no he didn't!) "May I comment on that? That's really an extraordinary statement. That's an extraordinary statement, as someone who lived through the attack of September 11, that we invited the attack because we were attacking Iraq. I don't think I've heard that before, and I've heard some pretty absurd explanations for September 11th. And I would ask the congressman to withdraw that comment and tell us that he didn't really mean that." (just for the record, he didn't withdraw the comment) Representative Duncan Hunter: (Is the term "SecDef" considered cool?) [A response to a hypothetical terrorist situation] "Yeah, let me just say this would take a one-minute conversation with the secretary of Defense. (Laughter.) I would call him up or call him in. I would say to SECDEF, in terms of getting information that would save American lives, even if it involves very high-pressure techniques, one sentence: Get the information." Representative Tom Tancredo: (how long before there was a Jack Bauer reference?) [in response to the same hypothetical terrorist situation] "Well, let me just say that it's almost unbelievable to listen to this in a way. We're talking about -- we're talking about it in such a theoretical fashion. You say that -- that nuclear devices have gone off in the United States, more are planned, and we're wondering about whether waterboarding would be a -- a bad thing to do? I'm looking for "Jack Bauer" at that time, let me tell you." Senator John McCain: (looks like McCain has a web-guy too) "In 2001, I proposed massive tax cuts, but I also proposed to rein in spending...We let spending go out of control. We spent money like a drunken sailor, although I never knew a sailor drunk or sober with the imagination of my colleagues. By the way, I received an e-mail not long ago from a fellow who said -- I repeat this story -- "As a former drunken sailor, I resent the way that Congress continues being compared to members of Congress." Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson: (when in doubt, quote Ronnie Reagan) "I would do the first thing that President Ronald Reagan would say: Trust but verify." DISSING RON PAUL  It's rather fun this morning to sit here doing my show prep while listening to these TV talking heads try to figure out just why Ron Paul, the Libertarian/Republican candidate, scored so high on opinion polls following last night's debate.
Two reasons. First .... Paul is a Libertarian. He's a former Libertarian presidential candidate. I've been talking libertarianism long enough to understand that far more Americans have libertarian leanings than the media and leaders of the other two parties might admit. In ignoring Ron Paul the media is, in effect, ignoring these libertarian feelings. The media considers this to be a two-party system, and that's it. Now .. why does Ron Paul win or place highly in these telephone polls immediately after the debate? The war. It's not just Republicans watching that debate -- Democrats and leftists have televisions too. Ron Paul was their guy on the podium last night .. he was the one who wants to cut and run and leave Iraq to the Islamic fascists. Democrats love this stuff .. and they'll call in to sway the vote to Paul. I've been a member of the Libertarian Party for about (I think) ten years now. They don't like me very much right now. In fact, I'm called a "phony libertarian" by many. Why? One reason ... I support the war against Islamic fascism. I actually see the wisdom in taking the fight to them over there before the bring the fight to us on our own soil. I recognize the dangers of showing weakness to the Islamic murderers. I'm convinced that the only way to deal with Islamic fascism is to defeat it on the battlefield -- thoroughly and convincingly. I'm really not making any plans to address the Libertarian National Convention next year. I think that's smart, don't you? JERRY FALWELL It was about 18 months ago ... a book signing for The FairTax Book in Lynchburg ... when I had the opportunity to sit with Jerry Falwell in his office at Liberty University. Though I had some disagreements with him on the proper relationship between government and religion, I found him to be an engaging and brilliant man. I came away an admirer and feel privileged to have spent this some private time with him. My condolences to his family, friends and followers at his passing.

ENFORCING THE LAW! OH NO! The headline of this article reads "Workers sue U.S. factory after immigration raid." Now let's think about this for a moment. The raid that took place in a factory in Massachusetts, where 361 illegal aliens were found to be working in the factory, which produces U.S. military equipment and apparel. Point number one: isn't calling illegal aliens "workers" something like calling bank robbers "tellers?" After the raid, the illegal aliens sued the factory for failure to pay them over-time wages. Are we out of our minds here? First we are paying them money to break our laws, and then we are allowing them to abuse our legal system. Absolutely not. The factory had been under a long time investigation and should be shut down or heavily fined for knowingly hiring illegal immigrants, particularly to produce materials for the government. At the very least all government contracts should be immediately cancelled. There are plenty of companies out there who hire legal residents who would be willing to do the work. Now we have to suffer the outrage of these criminal aliens turning around to sue the factory and reap the benefits of the U.S. Court system. Just how weak are we? Perhaps my favorite line of this little article here says, "Dozens of children were stranded when 361 workers at Michael Bianco Inc., which makes equipment and apparel for the U.S. military, were arrested by federal agents in New Bedford, a port city about 55 miles south of Boston." What we have here is a typical leftist ploy to tug at the heart strings, making you feel guilty for not fighting to protect the "rights" of these illegal aliens and all of their children. I know! Maybe we should consider not enforcing any criminal laws against people with children! Have a child, get immunity! AID AND COMFORT TO THE ENEMY  It was only a matter of time before they Defeatocrats admitted their own cowardly beliefs. Both Obama and Clinton have jumped on the same ship: cut off war funding and redeploy troops out of Iraq. Again, they have undermined every man and woman serving, or those who have served, for our country, basically telling them that there efforts were entirely for nothing. There is nothing worth fighting for. Oh .. and they have also made the enemy smile. How can the Islamic terrorists not be happy when the two leading Democrat presidential candidates -- one of whom is fully expected to be the next president, sends them the message that they have won!
Thanks but no thanks. These two Defeatocrats are spitting in the face of every man and woman serving in Iraq. I hope that every American reads this headline and sees it in the same way. This would be the single most damaging act we could ever imagine on every scale: geopolitically, militarily, economically, in regards to our intelligence and for the people of Iraq who need our help to build the country they are working towards. Defeatocrats, folks. That's what they are and I hope others see them for what they are as well. WILL FRANCE STAND UP FOR ITSELF? A European Al-Qaeda division has threatened "bloody jihad" on France for electing Nicolas Sarkozy as its newest leader. Sarkozy is a conservative, by definition, and U.S. supporter. This is quite a departure for France, a country long known for its appeasement strategy in its continuous battle with Muslim extremists. Will they pay a price for electing a strong leader? This group now threatening France is thought to be the same group that claimed responsibility for the London attacks in 2005. They have done it before, and who is to stop them from doing something similar in France. I just hope that this new president has the guts to actually fight these terrorists, rather than serve his people up as lunch meat. No country deserves to be beaten by this extremist hatred—not even France. AND NOW FOR SOME READING ASSIGNMENTS HATE MAIL???

Reverend Jerry Falwell, leader of the Moral Majority, died yesterday at 73. Missed the Republican debate last night because you were too busy at the FairTax rally?
