TONIGHT ... NEW ORLEANS

The Neal Boortz Show is broadcasting from The Heritage Foundation radio studios today.

Last night it was Washington DC where I was honored to be a presenter at the Media Research Center's 20th Anniversary Gala and Dishonor Awards. Today we once again do the show from the studios at The Heritage Foundation .. .and then we make our way to New Orleans! Now I know that the book signing at the Borders Book Store in Metairie is schedule for 7:00, but my flight from Washington DC lands at 6:26, so I think that there is a slight chance I may be a few minutes late. Just sit there and read ... the car is bringing me straight to the book store. Perhaps the folks from my New Orleans affiliate WIST AM-690 will be on hand to keep you occupied so you won't even know I'm not there yet!

BOOK SIGNINGS

We're entering the home stretch of the book tour:

  • 3/30 Borders, Metairie, LA
  • 4/2 Books-A-Million, Lawrenceville, GA
  • 4/3 Barnes & Noble, Marietta, GA
  • 4/4 Books-A-Million, Fayetteville, NC
  • 4/5 Ft. Bragg North Post PX, NC

THE FINAL FOUR IS IN ATLANTA

And, other than the tax revenue the city will receive, I don't think that there is a way I could care less. Of all the major sports basketball is the one that has most closely become identified with general thuggery. I take nothing away from the athletic skills these people possess, but it would be nice if that skill were combined with, say, the ability to comprehend this written sentence. Almost every one of these players fully expects to become a multi-millionaire playing in the NBA. Some will, most won't ... and it isn't going to be pretty when it comes to that old "earning a living" thing.

Damage is being done here. Across the nation we have young boys in urban schools glued to the tube this weekend .. through Monday night .. dreaming of the day they'll play in the Final Four and then hear their name called a few months later as a first round draft choice. For about 99.5% of them it's a pipe dream. Where are the adults to drill some sense of reality into their heads? Cheering them on, that's where. Dreaming of their precious first rounder going out and buying them a home and financing their retirement.

Then we have the bread and circuses aspect of this. It's Friday, and I don't feel like ranting on this ... suffice it to say that there are many power-hungry politicians out there who just love all of the attention being languished on "student" athletes. As long as you're glued to basketball you're paying no attention to they many different ways they're planning on screwing you.

The crowd may make it a bit hard to get through the airport and home when I arrive from New Orleans tomorrow ... other than that, no interest.

HARD TO KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT

As I type this I'm sitting in the Zephyr Deli at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington DC eating my cup of oatmeal. Just in front of me is a mother and her daughter chowing down on bagels and croissants. The mother is fat. The daughter, about 12 I would guess, is an absolute tub of goo. She's a fat little load with a puffed up face that will weigh close to 300 pounds by the time she's 20. I want to go up to this mother and tell her that she is as much a child abuser as anyone who beats or abandons her child ... and why doesn't she do something about her daughter's weight. And don't give me this "there's probably a medical problem" crap. I'm sitting here watching both of then stuff the carbs down their throats. Cream-filled donuts ... the works. Then they waddle to the trash can stuffing the last morsels down before they throw away the garbage. As they disappear out the door the tubby daughter has a brand new pastry in her hands. What an episode!

THE HEARINGS ABOUT NOTHING CONTINUE

The plot thickens in the U.S. Attorney firing non-scandal. Alberto Gonzales' former chief of staff says the Attorney General was involved in the firings, contradicting his boss. Who cares, right? Bored Democrats with no agenda, that's who. And they show no signs of letting up. Once again, the Democrats are looking for somebody's head in the administration...and that somebody is Alberto Gonzales. Get a nice resignation here and victory will be declared. Then it's off to get the leftist pro-Democrat media to bite on another non-scandal.

Yesterday Kyle Sampson, the AG's former chief of staff said he discussed the firings with his boss on two occasions. Gonzales said at a press conference 17 days ago that he was not involved in the firings. Gotcha! The attorney general is obviously a liar that must be fired. New York Senator Chuck Schumer said Gonzales' credibility has been shattered. But remember, Democrats only worry about credibility when they're talking about Republicans. Fellow Democrats don't count. Just ask Bill Clinton or Congressman William "Cold Cash" Jefferson.

But a little further down in the coverage of Sampson's testimony yesterday is this little nugget: "To my knowledge, no US attorney was asked to resign for the purpose of influencing a particular case for a particular reason." In other words, there's nothing to the Democrats' allegations and never was. Is this witch hunt what people voted for in the last election? Somebody down at the DNC thinks so.

Oh..and did you know President Bush was going to fire all 93 U.S. Attorneys, just as his predecessor had done? He only decided to fire eight. An inconsequential fact.

THE SENATE VOTES FOR AL-QAEDA

The Senate approved a bill yesterday calling for the surrender of U.S. forces in Iraq within a year. The bill, which has no chance of becoming law. Bush says he will veto it. On the other hand, since there's no abortion or stem cell research provisions in the bill ... who knows? If he does veto the bill there is no chance for an override. Islamic fascism, it seems has plenty of friends on Capitol Hill. Knowing that Joe Lieberman would never vote for such a travesty, you may be wondering what Republicans went along with this nonsense. The answer is (of course) Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel and Gordon Smith from Oregon (who? me neither.)

Check out this quote from Patty Murray, who managed the bill: "Our troops have done everything we've asked them to do, and now it's time to start bringing them home." It is? Well then I am sure the Democrats will have no problem cutting off funding for the war. That will bring them home, right? Well, evidently not. Only an artificial deadline that will never become law will do, I guess.

So what's wrong with all this? Imagine you're a solider serving in Iraq...and you turn on the TV and see that your own Senator has voted to surrender in Iraq. Don't you think that might dent morale just a bit? And what about the terrorists? They will be more emboldened than ever, knowing that they're winning the war in the arena of public opinion.

You do know our efforts were showing success in Iraq, don't you? This is the most dangerous situation for the Democrat Party. Any measure of success in Iraq costs Democrat Part votes in 2008. Can't let that happen. For God's sake, bring the troops home before they can actually succeed!

THE U.N. CAN'T GET ANYTHING RIGHT

The worthless United Nations continues to be useless. Iran goes into Iraqi waters and kidnaps 15 British sailors, one of them a woman, and the best they can do is to express "grave concern." Oh wow! Grave concern! I'm sure that really curled some beards in Iran. The U.N. originally intended to "deplore" the hostage-taking, but Russia objected. And here we thought that Putin was mad at Iran for not paying its bills! I guess not.
Face it. The U.N.'s response to this naked aggression shows that the organization serves no practical purpose and should be downgraded to a Sunday afternoon tea society.

Here you have an open-and-shut case of a rogue, dictatorial regime kidnapping and holding hostage innocent soldiers...soldiers that were not in Iranian waters when they were apprehended. The Brits have the GPS data to prove it. One of the sailors is a woman, making the situation all the more outrageous. On top of all this, Iran is parading the soldiers on TV...in direct violation of the Geneva Convention.

And what does the UN do? Nothing. Why? Because the UN is anti-American, and that makes it anti-Brit. It's time for not only the United States to pull out of the United Nations but for us to kick them out of the United States. Let's form another international organization composed of countries with elected governments that adhere to principles of economic freedom and guaranteed rights for their citizens. The UN? Give it Haiti. The two deserve each other.

The left always tells us we need the U.N. as a place for countries to settle international disputes. Tell me just one international dispute the UN has settled! It's a sounding board for third-world anti-Americanism. Nothing more.

Manuel Noreiga...remember him?  The former Panamanian dictator, ousted in the 1989 invasion ordered by Bush Senior, is headed back to his home country.  He's been rotting in a prison in Miami, Florida for the past 17 years.

In another blow to The Hildabeast, Jesse Jackson has decided to endorse Barack Obama.  With every passing day, the black vote is starting to slip away from Hillary Clinton...and this latest action by The Sloganmaster drives the nail further into that coffin.

Dick Morris reports that  former Tennessee Senator and 'Law and Order' prosecutor Fred Thompson
is gaining ground in the polls.  Of course, there's one small problem....he's not running for president yet.  But the field is so lackluster, even people who aren't running are tracking high in the polls.

Al Gore is almost a lock for the Nobel Peace Prize.  Turns out the head of the committee that hands out the Nobel Appeasement Prize is a big Al Gore fan, and recently gave him a standing ovation at a speech the former vice president gave.  At least the next winner won't be a total America-hater, so that's something.

Actor Alec Baldwin is offering to pay the college tuition of a soldier
after she gets home from the military.  Baldwin says this shows he can support the troops without supporting the war.  Maybe other Hollywood Leftists will follow his example.  Probably not.

With the GOP field running a bit thin for 2008, who is a person to vote for?  Steve Forbes says if free-market economics is your concern, then former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is your guy.  Forbes says Rudy is a fiscal conservative and that's good enough for him.

Democrats love to point to Afghanistan as the place where we should be fighting the war on terror instead of Iraq.  Charles Krauthammer begs to differ, saying Iraq is the more important front, not Afghanistan.  It's just not as important...all you have to do is ask Al-Qaeda.

If you're scratching your head over this supposed Washington scandal where 8 U.S. attorneys were fired, you're not the only one.  But National Review's Byron York offers a full break-down, including an interpretation of yesterday's hearings.

So what's wrong with America's health care system?  Is it that we don't have enough government involvement, as the Democrats insist?  No, the real problem says former Speaker of the  House Newt Gingrich is that our health care system is stuck in the 1950's.

This year marks the 400th anniversary of the settlement at Jamestown...essentially the birth of the United States.  But Mona Charen says political correctness in Virginian is hampering the celebration...or as the politicians are calling it, "commemoration."
