SORRY FOLKS ...... NO VOICE

Well ... looks like either the schedule or the pollen has nailed me. The beginning of the sixth week of the "Somebody's Gotta Say It" book tour finds me in Tulsa, Oklahoma on a Tuesday morning with no voice. Not good. Belinda is scrambling to find "best of" segments to fill in, and I'm stuck in a hotel room trying to get on track for tomorrow. Rest assured, however, that this does not interfere with my plans to be on hand tonight in Kansas City at Rainy Day Books for a signing at 7:00. The toughest thing is that I won't be able to talk to the folks. Just sign, grip and grin! My Kansas City affiliate Newsradio 980 KMBZ will be doing a live broadcast for the event ... so we'll let them do the talking! Sorry 'bout this. If I was just feeling puny ... no problem. But my 37 years of experience doing talk radio has taught me that it's durned hard to do a show if you can't talk. I'm pretty bright that way.

So .. here I am stuck in a rather nice hotel room ... so this means I'll probably go a little wild with some extra notes this morning. So check back. I'm gonna get some breakfast and come back to do some more.

Now ... is there a doctor in Tulsa who will get me a Z-pack?

PLANET PREDATOR

Yesterday I took a lot of heat from Belinda and Royal when I expressed my disappointment in the DiscoveryHD series "Planet Earth." I had been looking forward to this new hi-def look at our planet for some time. I told Donna that I was going to get my Sunday show prep out of the way so I could plop my ever-narrowing butt in front of the TV to watch the first episode when it came on at 8:00 p.m.

So ... what did I see? Well, the HD photography was beautiful, as expected. But as has happened so many times in the past the producers of the show saw fit to devote far too much of the footage to animals preying on animals. The first episode of animal carnage was a wolf chasing down a baby caribou. Then --- let's see --- we had sharks eating seals, eagles nailing exhausted storks, baby elephants wandering off to die in the desert, snow leopards eating goats, hyenas eating antelopes. Finally I just turned off the TV and went to bed. I'm sorry if this makes me a wimp --- but I just don't like watching endless episodes of animals chasing down and killing other animals. Is there a good wildlife photographer out there who can please make a documentary on the earth's wildlife without showing us all the killing?

Well, as I said, Belinda and Royal gave me a massive dose of puddin' over this. Belinda started chanting something about the "circle of life" and Royal just laughed. Fine. Let them watch the carnage. I don't need to see any more films of baby caribous sitting there panting with exhaustion from the chase while a wolf chews on its neck.

As it turns out, many of my listeners agree with me. Here's a sampling of the email:

I listen to your show as much as I can in my office every day. I was so glad you spoke out against those TV documentaries that take pride in showing every gruesome moment of a suffering animal while it is being torn apart by a predator. Yes, I know it is nature and there is nothing we can do about it, but I hate it. I get angry with the producers who show every lingering moment of agony. And, why couldn't they have helped the baby elephant find its mama? It wouldn't have hurt anything but their smug attitudes about "nature." It was surprising and welcome to hear a well known personality like you who actually felt the same way as I do.
Today I was surprised to hear you did not like watching animals being killed on these wildlife shows. I was surprised because I thought I was the only person that felt that way. I've noticed over the years more and more of these bloody, graphic killings of animals by animals. I've come to believe it's the same thing as pornography for the people that make these movies, videos, etc., and the kill is the "money shot" as it's called in porn.
I totally agree with you Neal. I looked forward to the broadcast and after about 10 minutes and the little caribou kill I just turned it off. Leave that out and it would be something I would watch. I know this is life, but I'd rather not watch it.
I TOTALLY agree with you about The Planet Earth. My husband and I had marked the calendar to watch the show with our three boys. I couldn't believe how gory it was. My 6 year old was freaking out. I know that animals have to eat other animals to survive but did they have to show it more than once? WE GOT IT ALREADY!!

And no .. I'm not opposed to all forms of violence. If these producers are so eager to show us the chase and the kill .. .how about this. Show me videos of idiots leading police on high-speed chases through neighborhoods where children are playing, and on the same streets being driven by innocent and law-abiding people; and then show the police pulling these jerks out of their cars and beating them to death. Now that will keep me tuned in.

So ... for those of you at Discovery HD. I'm sure you put a lot of work and money into your "Planet Earth" documentary. Thanks, but no thanks. I'll find a nice travel show to watch.

THAT MEETING THIS WEEK WITH THE REPUBLICANS? WELL .... GUESS WHAT?

Do you remember me telling you about my invitation to talk to the Republican "Theme Team" on Capitol Hill this coming Thursday. This week of the book tour was planned around that event. I was looking forward to telling these ladies and gentlemen that the Republican Party has absolutely nothing going for it right now that is in any way igniting the passions or even the mile interest of the American people. Nothing. Nada. Nyet. Nunca.

So .......

Cancelled.

Yup. Got an email yesterday telling me that something was going on at the White House on Thursday and that most of the Republicans would be there ... and that my appearance had been cancelled. Well hell. I would rather go to the White House than listen to some know-it-all talk show host too ... so I guess that's just the way the old political pickle squirts. It looks like I'm just going to have to take what I was going to say to the Republicans and put it in writing ... so look for that posting a bit later this week on Nealz Nuze!

IRAN MAY BE CHANGING ITS MIND

Iran is changing its tune on the 15 kidnapped British soldiers, saying it is questioning them to see if they're innocent. It seems the Iranians think now maybe their supposed trespassing in Iranian waters was an accident. More accurately .... perhaps the Iranians have some hint that their little kidnapping ploy isn't working out all that well for them and they had better find a way out of this mess. By the way...one of the 15 is a woman. Just how much of this is the world going to put up with?

By the way, the Blob (that's Rosie O'Donnell for those of you who are new to the show) thinks we made the whole thing up. That's right, theBlob implied on 'The View' that the United States somehow set up this whole thing so as to provoke the Iranians into giving us an excuse to start a war with them. Yeah, that's what happened. George W. Bush probably did all this in his spare time while he was planning more plane hijackings so he could continue the War On Terror. I'm starting to think that this hideous woman really is as stupid as she sounds. Stupid --- not ignorant. You can fix ignorant.

Anyway, it could be that mounting international pressure is changing the Iranians minds...but it's still astonishing that nobody is doing anything about it. Snatching those 15 soldiers was an act of war....except Britain hasn't reacted. Why? Evidently because they're continuing their policy of Islamic appeasement...and letting the Iranians slide. The strongest words Tony Blair could come up with was that they were taking the matter very seriously. That's it. Which is too bad...because this would be a great opportunity to put the Mullahs in Tehran in their place.

But instead, the UK is holding Iran's hand...softly telling them to please return the soldiers. I wonder if they're going to pay money for their release? Perhaps a prisoner swap? It's really that absurd.
Where are the Islamic fascists going to push next?

YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK

There are 600,000 illegal alien fugitives in this country that our government cannot account for.  The people charged with the responsibility of keeping up with these people are claiming inadequate resources. How about lack of will? But hey, no worries. We learn that the Feds expect to have them all of these fugitive criminal aliens out by the end of 2012. So only another 4 years or so before we round up all the murderers, rapists and thieves from the Mexican invasion and ship them back from whence they came. Of course, by then, another 600,000 -- likely many more --- will crossed the border heading north.

Criminal aliens? Yeah .. that's what I call them. A little insensitive reaction of mine to seeing these people carrying their "I'm not a criminal" signs. You cross the border illegally, you work illegally, you stay here illegally ... you're a criminal. Plus you have the fact that a significant percentage of illegal aliens are committing a large number of crimes. Sexual predators especially...all courtesy of our neighbor to the South. But the media isn't anxious to report this wave of crime courtesy of Mexico. Next time you're watching your local news and you see a report about a crime committed by someone who could be an illegal alien, noticed they never mention their immigration status. That would be politically incorrect.

So the invasion continues. One of the excuses being given as to why the fugitive backlog is so high in this country is because there aren't enough places in the jails for them. Here's an idea...how about shipping them back to Mexico and letting them deal with it? We used to do that....it was calling deporting somebody. Look it up...it used to happen. A long time ago.

THE LATEST SLAVERY APOLOGY

Maryland has become the latest state to apologize for slavery.  Virginia has also apologized, and there are similar measures winding their way through the Georgia and Missouri legislatures. This is, of course, the first stop on the route to the real goal: reparations. Where does this end? How far back to we go? There are lots of wrongs committed in our history...should we be apologizing for them all? As far as the race pimps are concerned, we should never stop apologizing. They see the reparations movement as a source of power, so you're going to hear more and more about it.

Apologize for slavery? Here's a few points to ponder. First ... there is not one single living, breathing human being in this country who cannot trace his ancestry back to someone who was held in slavery. I hate to the bearer of this news, but black Americans have no corner on the "descended from slaves" market.

But why stop with an apology for slavery? What about the slaughter of the Native Americans? Obviously they deserve some money for their pain and suffering. And if we're talking about reparations, the biggest piggy bank of all has to be the British government. They still haven't paid for all the havoc they caused in the Revolutionary War. And what about Aaron Burr's relatives? Alexander Hamilton owes them some money.

The truth is you can only go back so far. There is not one person alive today that had anything to do with the slave trade. There is nothing to apologize for because nobody did anything. There is nobody to pay or collect from because nobody had anything to do with it. But the apologies roll on.

Hey .. how about an apology from black Americans for the disproportionate amount of violent crime that is caused by blacks in America.

Oops .. now that's a politically incorrect thought if ever there was one.

I've never been to a book signing before because to me, what's the point? I heard you were coming to Tulsa, so I made plans for it and really didn't know what to expect. Last night was probably one of the most honourable times I can recall. I remember back when I was 17(12 years ago), cruising around town way past my curfew. Out of boredom, I was browsing through my AM radio(FM didn't work) Low and behold your show was on and I thought "this guy's a total prick, this is very entertaining" Little at that time would I have realized that your show would have been one of the biggest influences my later teenage and early adult years. And still to this day, I'm tuning in as I wake up. Last night was one to remember. Take care.

The media is all worked up because a Justice Department official is going to take the Fifth and refuse to answer questions in front of a Senate committee investigating the firing of the eight U.S. attorneys.  The manufactured pseudo-scandal rolls on.

More proof that things are getting better in Iraq, and even the media can't ignore it this time.  Even the good 'ole Islamic terrorist Al-Sadr has decided to start helping people.  How nice...but he is cooperating with the United States.  Must be the surge.

A new poll on the 2008 presidential race shows not much has changed.  The leaders are still Rudy Giuliani and Hillary Clinton.  Both lead their nearest competitors, Barack Obama and John McCain by double digits.  Of course, the election is over a year and a half away.  Small detail.

Should Bill Clinton be the U.N. Secretary-General?  It turns out the former president once talked about getting the job.  He could certainly do no worse than the last few people to hold that job.  And the interns are probably better.  Oh, and Hillary says if she wins, she'll put Bill in charge of running the world.

Well, our first customer in the Gitmo war tribunals has pleaded guilty and will be heading back to Australia.  He's facing 20 years for providing support to terrorists.  Once we start handing out real sentences down there, expect the Left to really get their panties in a knot.

Jack Kelly says what everybody is thinking....Britain needs to respond forcefully to Iran's kidnapping of its 15 sailors.  What Iran did was an outright act of war, and the British soldiers should have sent the Iranians to their proverbial oceanic naps.  But sadly, a policy of appeasement was in effect.

The fact that anti-war protesters have now turned on Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats in Congress shows the dangers of aligning yourself with demagogues.  Thomas Sowell explains that Pelosi and others' supporters have turned against them on the war, but he wonders why they won't end the war.

Are Republicans making a mistake in opposing a timeline for our withdrawal from Iraq?  Christopher Hitchens explores the issue...and says there is at least one Democrat that has been calling for Saddam Hussein's removal for some time.

And now, courtesy of Dinesh D'Souza, here are the top liberal myths about radical Islam.  Topping the list:  Muslims are mad at the West because of the Crusades that took place hundreds of years ago.  Not so, says D'Souza.
