ABOUT THAT CITIZENSHIP QUIZ
Some of you have heard me mention a citizenship quiz in Somebody's Gotta Say it. I've suggested that some high school teachers and college professors might have fun with this in their class. Last night a University of Florida asked my permission to take this quiz from my book and print it up to give to his class. Permission granted!
So .. how did this come about? Last July 4th I was in Ashville, North Carolina at the Grove Park In. Wonderful place. While there I picked up a copy of the Ashville Citizen-Times ... a decidedly left-wing newspaper. The Citizen-Times was running a citizenship quiz to celebrate the 4th. This quiz had one of the most insipid collection of meaningless questions I have ever seen passed off as a citizenship test. Who, after all, gives a flying corn dog what the motto of North Carolina is or who wrote the words to the Star Spangled Banner. Isn't it more important why the Star Spangled Banner was written than who wrote it? So .. .I sat down to write a citizenship quiz with some questions that measured a person's knowledge of some facts in our history that might actually mattered. There are 63 questions and they're all in Somebody's Gotta Say it. Here are the first five. | 1. Forget when the Declaration of Independence was signed. (Hint: It wasn't July 4.) Instead, explain why it was signed. What were the signers trying to accomplish? 2. What happened to the men who signed the Declaration? Did they go on to be heroes and live happily ever after? 3. What does the Declaration of Independence say the people can do when a government becomes destructive to the ends of liberty? 4. Are we about there? 5. What would happen to anyone who tried today to alter or abolish our government if it became destructive to the idea that government derives its powers from the consent of the governed? Now there are some questions there that might be considered to be written from somewhat of a wiseass point of view ... but hey, it's my book. If you're a teacher and want to have fun with your class .. this test would do it. Perhaps I ought to publish a teacher's guide with answers for some of you who may be stumped by many of the questions. | Thank you Neal. I just finished the book. Excellently written and you covered most every subject that is killing our country. My friends look will just look and stare when I would start laughing while reading your book. You have your fair share of catch phrases. Fair tax is next on my list of readings. I will pass the book onto friends and to my twenty year old son. Oh, and thanks for the signature also. I got in early for that one. (Loyal Listener) |
POOR, POOR KHALID SHEIKH MOHAMMED
The media is now downplaying the claims of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed...saying he may be exaggerating his testimony. Of course, this is being done to try and minimize the threat of Islamic terrorism. As if being responsible for 9/11 weren't enough. Democrats, who are in denial about the terrorist threat, are seeking to minimize any success the Bush Administration may be having with fighting the war on terror. And naturally the media is along for the ride.
You know what the implication is here. We obviously tortured him, right? He's just telling us what we want to hear....lying about his conquests. One man couldn't possibly be responsible for all of that. Funny how every time we capture or kill an Al-Qaeda bigwig, Democrats downplay it as just one person. But in the same breath, they turn around and mock the Bush Administration for not capturing or killing Osama Bin Laden yet. Wait a minute...I thought he was just one man?
So now we get to watch the media and liberals stir up sympathy for an Islamic terrorist. Rosie O'Donnell defended poor Khalid Sheikh Mohammed on 'The View.' That's not far off the mark when it comes to the latest Democratic response.
VALERIE PLAME TO TESTIFY TODAY
Valerie Plame is going to testify in front of Congress today. Why? Because Democrats want to embarrass the administration some more. Since nobody was charged with leaking her name, there is no possible reason for her to testify. But Democrats control the Congress and it's time to pile on...so here we go. By getting Plame 007 to testify they get the media spotlight to continue their efforts to discredit the Bush Administration. We can't wonder what questions they'll be asking Mrs. Wilson?
I wonder if they'll ask her why nobody has been charged with leaking her name? Wasn't it because her name wasn't such a secret at all? Will they ask her why she really wasn't a covert operative, but instead was pushing pencils at Langley? Will they ask her why she posed for a photo spread in Vanity Fair? After all, wasn't she so concerned about her identity being exposed?
Will they ask her why her husband lied about his trip to Niger? Maybe not...but then again, there will be some Republicans on the committee. Let's see if they can actually make some noise. Because if they don't, Democrats and the media are going to get away with portraying Plame as a victim...something she's not.
THE LATEST NON-SCANDAL CONTINUES
Oh boy...now we're reading that Karl Rove may have had a hand in the firings of the U.S. Attorneys. Hmm...since he's the president's political consultant and since those attorneys are political appointees....what's the big deal? The media sure is worked up over this. Funny how there wasn't the same outrage when Bill Clinton canned all of his U.S. Attorneys. But, as you know, there is a different standard between Republican and Democratic presidents. It's called media bias.
There is absolutely nothing to this story. U.S. Attorneys are political appointees...they serve at the pleasure of the president. Why they were fired, how they were fired, who fired them...what they were fired for.. none of it matters. Just like cabinet secretaries, the president can fire them all whenever he wants. There is no explanation needed. There is no controversy here. This is all just an invented scandal by the media and the left.
And some spineless "Republicans" are actually going along with it. Calling on the Attorney General to resign? What for? Doing his job? There are already some media outlets comparing this non-scandal to Watergate. How? In what way? When you serve at the pleasure of the president, you can be fired at anytime for any reason. There is real story here. The president exercised his prerogative ... and some U.S. Attorneys were fired. The Dems know, however, that they can make this into a major scandal because they have a media establishment that is not only willing, but positively eager to help them out.
FINALLY
I'm noticing more and more that various newspaper articles around the country that mention me or my book refer to me as a libertarian. Finally. That only took about 15 years. If more voters in this country who harbor libertarian feelings would vote their true political conscious instead of sticking mindlessly to the two main political parties we might actually make some headway in changing things in this country ... we might even be able to preserve individualism and liberty! Can you imagine what would happen if a good Libertarian managed to share the stage with the Republican and the Democrat in a nationally televised "debate?" REDNECK SCRAP BOOK Now that at least some of us have had a taste of spring, we can start thinking about planning summer pool parties. More in the Redneck Scrap Book. READING ASSIGNMENTS
Neal's on C-SPAN's Book TV this weekend! Check it out Saturday at 8:30pm and Sunday 11:05am & 4pm. This winter was the warmest on record. Global warming is surely going to kill us all, right? Well, what the headlines don't tell you is that this winter was very much near the average...and oh by the way, record-keeping of temperatures only began in 1880. How do we know 1879 wasn't warmer?
A new poll found that George Bush's approval ratings are tied to income. In other words, the more money you have, the better the job you think the president is doing. This would make sense....after all, the richer you are, the smarter you are, right? Except for athletes and celebrities.
One of the Marines who was involved in the Haditha incident where several civilians were shot and killed says he would absolutely do the same thing over again. As for shooting five unarmed Iraqis in the back? The good sergeant says they disobeyed a direct order. His interview is on '60 Minutes' this Sunday.
A school in England, worried that "The Three Little Pigs" might offend Muslims, has renamed the classic...to "The Three Little Puppies." Not only is it ridiculous, but it shows you the degree to which Europe is losing itself in its efforts to appease Islamists.
Rosie O'Donnell is defending 9/11 plotter Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. She said on 'The View' that the United States tortured him to get the confession. I'm sure the families of the dead 3,000 9/11 victims are so happy she's defending their murderer on national television.
Barack Obama is pledging not to bring up personal issues about other candidates in the 2008 presidential race. Will others follow suit? This will be interesting to watch...will The Hildabeast sign on? Probably not...she wants to be able to sling all the mud she can.
The six imams who were kicked off a flight in Minneapolis are now not only suing the airline, but are also targeting passengers that reported them to airport security. If this goes through, people are going to be afraid to report Islamic terrorism in progress. This is just the kind of political correctness the 9/11 hijackers relied on.
Professor Mike Adams always has his eye on the world of academia...and rooting out and exposing college professors with extreme views. It turns out there's also a member of the KKK teaching at Kent State. Your tax dollars at work.
Dick Morris says the problem a true conservative candidate faces in trying for the GOP nomination for president is that they have to somehow step over Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, both of whom he calls political corpses. |
