JUST AMAZING

Yesterday the White House invited about 41 radio talk show hosts to broadcast from a media tent set up in the driveway right in front of the White House's main entrance.  Conservatives?  Yes, there were conservative hosts there.  Conservatives dominate talk radio.  Rare is the liberal who can make a go of it in this particular medium.  I've gone through this before, but here is the Reader's Digest version:  Liberals simply cannot push their anti-individual, illogical, anti-liberty philosophy on live radio when there are callers armed with fact and logic waiting to respond.  But the fact of the matter is that there were liberal hosts at that gathering yesterday.  I saw them.  I talked to them.  They were simply not excluded.

Well ... don't tell that to those liberal hosts who somehow didn't make the invite list.  Two of them, Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz, were on Larry King Live last night whining about their absence at the gathering.  If they had been there the day would have been described as an efficient way to put as many administration officials on the air on as many different radio shows in one day as possible.  Since they were not there the day was described as an event in which right-wing talk hosts were given their marching orders by the Bush White House.

Did I say something about liberals being fact challenged?  During the program Ed Schultz threw in the "fact" that all of these hosts were there at "taxpayer's expense."  Did he check that out before he made the comment?  Did he ask anyone who paid their way and who covered the cost of the broadcast?  Nope.  Sorry, he didn't.  Well, I was there, along with Belinda and Charles, our broadcast engineer.  We paid for our way up and back.  We paid to ship our equipment up there and back.  We paid for our hotel room.  We paid for all of of our meals while we were there.  We paid for the broadcast lines.  "Taxpayer's expense?"  I don't think so.  Then Schultz chimes in with "who paid the light bill?"

This stuff is just amazing, folks.  Some day in the future there well may be a Democrat in the White House.  Some day.  And that Democrat will host events just like the one we attended yesterday.  When that happens the liberals will say that they are simply reaching out to the media.  Right now though it's "handing out marching orders to right-wing hate radio."

Whatever.

CRANKING UP THE VOTER FRAUD OUTCRY

There seems to be a slight change in the fortunes for the Democrats in the last day or so.  Even Dick Morris, who was predicting a blow-out of the Republicans last week, is starting to hedge his bets.

Well ... if the Democrats fail to at least win control of the House in two weeks, they're certainly going to need an excuse.  They can't simply admit that they had no agenda that truly appealed to the American people.

So ... why not get a head start on the excuse-making?  How about voter fraud!  That's it!  They'll claim that the voting machines in key House races were all rigged!   Someone, probably Karl Rove, hacked into the voting machines and threw the whole election to the Republicans?

Original?  Not really.  Democrats have used the voter fraud excuse in the last three elections.  In the final analysis it may be that, or admit you're just not all that appealing any more.

MICHAEL J. FOX'S STEM CELL ADS

In an attempt to elect more Democrats, Hollywood actor Michael J. Fox is recording campaign commercials for Democrats.  The most-talked about one is in Missouri [watch it], where Republican Senator Jim Talent is running for re-election against Democrat Claire McCaskill.  The polls currently show it's a dead heat, with maybe Talent up by a few points...but still under 50 percent.  This is going to be a close one.

Enter Michael J. Fox.

Hollywood celebrities recording campaign commercials endorsing one candidate or another are nothing new.  It happens all the time.  But in this case Fox, the popular actor currently suffering from the effects of Parkinson's disease, has produced ads that are deceptive.  The issue is federal funding embryonic stem cell research....and Michael J. Fox is the new stooge in the Democratic Party's campaign of deception.

Like a lot of Republicans, Talent is opposed to federal funding of embryonic stem cell research.  Aided by the mainstream media, Democrats have been advancing the lie for several years now that if you're opposed to the federal funding of something...then that means you want to ban it.  Not so...in fact, what administration has provided more federal funding for stem cell research than another other?  Your answer:  the current Bush Administration.

I admire Michael J. Fox.  I admire his courage in facing this horrible disease.  I, too, want to see more research in this area.  I admit to having a problem with the taxpayers funding that research.  Is it a proper function of government?  Or of private research institutions?  My big problem here is that perhaps these ads are convincing voters that the Bush Administration and the Republicans are somehow working for a total ban.  That's just not so.

If there is so much promise and so many cures to be had from embryonic stem cell research, then there is absolutely nothing stopping private companies from pursuing it.  Embryonic stem cell research is not illegal...never has been.  It just the Democrats exploit people like Michael J. Fox to attack candidates opposed to federal funding.  But don't believe the hype....embryonic stem cell research is not now, nor has it ever been, illegal.

REPUBLICANS MIGHT GET A BREAK

Republicans will keep or lose the House?
Keep
Lose
Dick Morris has a new column out that might give some Republicans hope today.  In it, he is predicting that the mid-term election is back to the toss-up stage and the GOP might actually have a chance.  Morris was the one who was predicting George Bush would be re-elected in 2004 when everybody else called it for The Poodle, so people should listen.

It turns out the conservative base may have awakened from a nightmare where they see Nancy Pelosi pounding the Speaker's gavel.  Not a pleasant thought.  What is the evidence of this?  Democrats have sputtered in several key states...particularly Senate races.  It's now looking more and more like it will not be possible for Democrats to take control of the Senate from the GOP.  If anything, they might be able to get it to 50-50, but even that is still a Republican edge with Cheney as the Senate president to do tie-breaker votes.

So could it happen?  Could it be that the media has it all wrong.....the Democrats have it all wrong...and suddenly the Republican base will go vote in two weeks, just like they always have?  Maybe.  It's always been the case that no matter what the polls say, particularly national polls, it all comes down to 1.) who votes on Election Day and 2.) whether or not people take out the sins of Iraq on their local Congressman.

So Republicans might have an opening here.  They'll probably screw it up somehow though.  After all, there's still two weeks left.  But if they hold on, Nancy Pelosi had better hope she saved her receipt from all those drapes she's been buying for the Speaker's office.

With just under two weeks left to go before Election Day, Michelle Malkin says that despite all of her differences with the Republican Party and the White House, voting for the Democratic Party would be much, much worse.

And now it's time for a little environmental hypocrisy, courtesy of the website TMZ.com.  Here is a list of celebrities who claim they're green, but actually guzzle gas in their daily lives.  Sure....they drive hybrids...but also burn through thousands of gallons of jet fuel.

It's looking more and more like the Senate might go 50-50, meaning Dick Cheney would be called in as the tie-breaking vote if needed.  Democrats would be looking for that power-sharing agreement that was in place the last time there was an even split, but they might find that offer not available this time.

When a Democrat has run out of ideas....and has no other way to challenge his or her opponent, they do one of two things.  Call you a Nazi or take the remedial step of comparing you to Richard Nixon.  And that's just what Ned Lamont did in Connecticut to Joe Lieberman.

The Democratic excuse-making has already begun.  The media is already pushing stories about how voting machines aren't working.....in order to sow enough doubt in the even that Democrats don't do as well on November 7th.  Remember:  if someone is too dumb to use a touch screen voting machine, they're being "disenfranchised."

Just in time for the Republicans' slight turnaround in the polls, the Pentagon is saying more troops are needed in Iraq.  What timing!  Then again, the generals over there are trying to run a war...not win elections.

The principal of a Montana high school was suspended 6 days for giving a student a wedgie.  The school board sent him home to think about what he had done.  The news story never says exactly what the kid did to deserve the wedgie.

If you had an extra $2.6 billion laying around, what would you do with it?  Yet that's exactly how much is being spent on the current election cycle....and could be the costliest in U.S. history.

Michael Barone takes a look at the latest polls for House races in an attempt to predict whether or not the GOP will maintain control.  His verdict?  It's hard to tell...but it looks like it may be a close one.  Read on to find out.

John Stossel has a great column today about how employer-provided health insurance is a terrible idea.  He says the fact that somebody else pays for your health insurance is exactly why there is so much waste, fraud and abuse in the current system.  Don't miss this one.

With so much opposition in the world to free trade, Walter E. Williams wonders if we should be doing any trading at all?  After all, we could produce nearly all of the products we get from other countries.  So why not?
