A KOREAN NUKE?

Well here we are....North Korea has done it.  Forget about stopping Kim Jong-Il from acquiring a nuclear weapon....that happened long ago.  Forget about his missile tests a few months ago.  Now he's done what many thought he wouldn't...he's tested a nuclear weapon.  He set off the bomb.

Geologists have reported an earthquake that registered a 4.2 on the Richter scale....and the cause of that explosion is assumed to be the underground detonation of North Korea's nuclear bomb.

Condemnation was swift from around the world, including the United States.  Tony Snow issued this statement:  "A North Korean nuclear test would constitute a provocative act in defiance of the will of the international community and of our call to refrain from actions that would aggravate tensions in northeast Asia."  South Korea is mad...China is upset.....countries around the world are condemning the test.  So what is going to happen next?  What will be North Korea's punishment?

Absolutely nothing, and North Korea knows it.  That's why The Gargoyle pushed the button...he knows there aren't any consequences.  Oh sure...the U.S. says it will push for sanctions at the UN today.  But North Korea is already under military and economic sanctions.  Kim Jong-Il simply doesn't care.  He knows we're not going to do anything, at least militarily.

The most interesting reaction may be Russia's.  Prior to the actual test the Russian leadership said that if North Korea does conduct such a test that would be a signal for the United States to enter two-party talks with North Korea.  Well, that's exactly was North Korea has been asking for ... so that would make Russia's position one of appeasement.

Ahhhhh ... appeasement.  It makes you wonder just how long it will be today before the Democrats start making similar statements.  My bet is that some leading Democrat will step forward and demand two-party talks before the sun goes down.  I'm betting on either John Kerry or Al Gore.  Maybe Hillary!

And just why does that strange little gargoyle who rules North Korea want two-party talks?  Two reasons!

  1. Any talks between just North Korea and the United States would legitimize the North Korean government.

  2. It is much easier to stage a raid on the U.S. Treasury .. and on the American taxpayers .. in two-party talks.  The Gargoyle can't feed his own people ... a lot of U.S. money would help him.

OK Democrats ... step up here!  Who is going to be the first to call for those two-party talks, and to support a raid on the U.S. taxpayers to calm The Gargoyle down?

HURRICANE SEASON IS OVER!

The hurricane experts are now telling us that the season is essentially over.  There will be no more hurricanes this year.  Oops ... I meant to say that there will be NO hurricanes this year.  None.  We've gone through the season and not one single hurricane has touched the United States.

Now that doesn't mean we didn't have our moments of irrational panic.  Florida officials rushed to close schools and declare states of emergency a month or so ago when a tropical depression ran up the Florida east coast.  After all, we don't want those school busses out there on the roads when the wind blows over 25 miles per hour (as it does in nearly every Florida thunderstorm) now do we?

Well this is all good news, right?  Well .. if you live in Florida if might be good news.  But for the nation's global warming alarmists this is not good news at all.  The global warming crowd was hope, truly hoping for a devastating hurricane season.  After Katrina last year they were sounding the alarms over even more hideous destruction to come this year --- all because of those SUVs causing all of that global warming around the world.

Well -- it didn't happen.  In fact, the sea surface temperatures in the portion of the Atlantic where these storms are bred declined a degree or two.  Now how in the world is that going to happen when we're experiencing so much global  warming?

By the way ... those low gas prices you see out there?  No, George Bush hasn't lowered the prices because of the election, though if you were "educated" in a government school you might well believe that.  Those gas prices went up in the first place in part because of the global warming scare.  The screams and howls of the global warming crowd caused those who trade in oil futures to bid the price up.  Way up.  After all ... all of those category 5 hurricanes that were going to rip into the oil production areas of the Gulf of Mexico were going to cause a huge disruption in our oil production and refining capacity.  When time passed without any of those killer hurricanes the prices of crude started to decline as the traders took their hits.  Result?  Lower gas prices.

Take heart, global warmistas!  There's always next year!  People aren't really getting that much smarter, so you'll be able to work your anti-capitalist, global warming agenda again.

SO WHAT'S FEMA GOING TO DO WITH THEIR PUPPET SHOW?

We wonder now that the hurricane season is over if FEMA is going to fold its traveling minstrel show in Florida?

Oh .. you haven't heard about this.  Well, here's another "your tax dollars at work" story for you.  How many tax dollars?  Well, how about $22.6 million.  For what?  Well .... let's see.  We have hurricane bingo, Windy Biggie puppet shows, yoga on the beach and something called "salsa for seniors."

This stuff makes me just mad as hell.  It's government spending gone amuck ... and nobody seems to give a flying fling about it.

I believe that every single time a government or bureaucrat spends one penny of taxpayer dollars he ought to be willing to sign a statement saying that it is his firm belief that it is far more important for him to spend this money in this way than it would be to allow the person who earned that money to keep it and spend it on their own personal needs.  These bureaucrats and politicians spend money with not so much as a moment's thought to the person who expended a portion of their lives to earn it.  It truly disgusts me.

So ... where did this $22.6 million go?  Sally Kestin of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel did an investigation of this huge FEMA grant to the State of Florida.  The money was spent through an agency called Project H.O.P.E.  (Helping Our People in Emergencies).  This is a classic story of bureaucrats spending money because its there ... and accomplishing basically nothing.

Kestin's story is incredible.  Here are just a few of the things that these taxpayer funds were spent on ... and remember, in every case this money was taken by force of law from people who have bills to pay, medical emergencies to meet, children to educate, a retirement to plan for, and a home to buy.  The money wasn't there, though, because it was seized by the government and spent for:

  • Puppet shows.

  • Hurricane Bingo for seniors at retirement homes who had no clue what was going on

  • Sea shell collecting trips by Project H.O.P.E. employees

  • The "toilet paper game"

  • Silly string and art therapy

  • Yoga relaxation on the beach

  • The "Planting for Inner Peace" workshop

Look ... I just can't cover this in the notes, though I'll spend some time on the air today ranting and truly raving about this.  You just need to read the story for yourself.  Here's your link.

OH!  WE BROKE YOUR LAWS?  WELL PARDON US!

We had a little illegal alien march in Atlanta over the weekend.  Typical stuff.  About 2000 illegal aliens marching to the Georgia state capitol to demand .. yes, "demand," that they be pardoned.  The broke the law coming here.  They broke the law staying here.  They broke the law working here.  Now they're demanding that we pardon all of their law-breaking and tell them that everything is OK.

When the Republicans get their free-spending butts kicked out of control one month from tomorrow, this will be one of the reasons.  They couldn't even manage to stop an invasion across our border with Mexico.

CRASS HYPOCRISY

I saw that Clinton sycophant Rahm Emanuel on one of the talking head shows yesterday.  He was pontificating about how the Republicans worked so hard to cover up the sexual misconduct of Mark Foley.

Emanuel is now the Democrat Congressman from the 5th Congressional District of Illinois.  That would be the north side of Chicago.  Prior to his being elected to Congress Emanuel headed up Bill Clinton's Director of Finance during the 1991 presidential campaign.  He then served as a top advisor to Clinton from 1993 to 1998.

Why is Emanuel's past important?  Because he was part of the Clinton inside circle during Clinton's various sexual scandals.  We have Paula Jones, Kathleen Willy, Juanita Broaderrick, Monica Lewinsky .. and the lounge singer Gennifer Flowers.  So .. there was Rahm Emanuel right there on the inside while everyone was working diligently to keep the lid on Clinton's sexual escapades.  And now he's slamming the Republicans for the same thing?

Why does the media let him get away with this?  Oh .. right.  He's a Democrat.

THE FOLEY SAGA GRINDS ON

How would you grade the job Republicans have done since they've had control of the Senate, House and White House?

The media continues to fan the flames of the Mark Foley scandal, despite the obvious boredom of it all.  One member of the House, of which there are some 435, resigned in disgrace after it was discovered he sent sexually charged e-mails and IM's to House Pages.  And oh, the House leadership knew about it.  This kind of thing would be on the back page of the B section in the Washington Post if Democrats were running things.

But they're not...however they soon will.  And despite the new information that one Republican Congressman knew about Foley's e-mails back in 2000 and told him to knock it off...and despite the revelation this weekend that Foley did indeed have sex with one former page...it really doesn't matter much.  The fact is, the Republicans lost the House and maybe the Senate a long time ago, pre-Mark Foley.  Let's just count the ways the GOP has screwed things up:

  1. Iraq.  The facts have to be faced...the public has run out of patience with the war in Iraq.  We're 3 1/2 years into the war, we're still occupying the country with no end in sight and casualties continuing to mount.  The American public simply does not have that kind of appetite for sacrifice anymore.  They let Bush slide in 2004, believing Iraq would be handled by now.  Mistakes were made....and accountability is at hand.

  2. Not promoting the good economy.  The economy has never been better.  We are in an all-out economic boom right now.  Wages are up, unemployment is down...growth is up...the deficit is shrinking.  Yet for some reason, the GOP is MIA on promoting this.

  3. Illegal immigration.  The one issue that the American people universally want to see action taken on...and the Republicans aren't doing a thing about it.  They could have grabbed this issue by the horns and ridden it to victory in November.  But instead, they acted like Democrats...and now voters are about to make them pay.

There's other goodies ... the obscene McCain-Feingold Act, earmarks, stem cell research .... quite a list.

The media wants you to believe Mark Foley or the Republicans' handling of Mark Foley is what will put the speaker's gavel in Nancy Pelosi's hand 4 weeks from now.  But it goes far, far beyond Mark Foley and his dalliances at the Page's dorm.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Neal's guest today at approx. 10:30AM ET, Robert Spencer, talking about his book The Truth About Muhammad: Founder of the World's Most Intolerant Religion.

Everyone else who was running for UN Secretary-General has withdrawn for the race, leaving only South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-Moon.  That can't be good for The Gargoyle....having his upset neighbor running the show at the UN.

Oil prices are dropping and along with it gasoline prices, but we received yet another reminder over the weekend of why we need to continue to drill for our own oil.  The president of OPEC is calling for an output cut in an attempt to raise the price.  Can't have oil be too cheap, you know.

There are some in Congress who want the 22nd Amendment repealed...that is the amendment that limits the president of  the United States to two terms.  And a Democrat is leading the charge.  How about instead of repealing it...expand it to members of Congress?

The Poodle is still fighting with the swift boat guys that helped to derail his presidential aspirations.  At least John Kerry admits his response to the veterans group wasn't enough in 2004.  And he never was able to fully dispute their accusations.

A new poll done by Newsweek says GOP voters may be backing House Speaker Dennis Hastert....for now.  The rest of the stats are a horror show for the Republican Party....and all point to their ouster in 4 weeks.  We shall see.

President Bush continues to sell the crazy that a guest worker program isn't automatic amnesty.  So let's get this right:  an illegal alien enters this country illegally, works here illegally, then gets a guest worker card and a shot at citizenship?  Sounds like amnesty to me.

Well it seems like we should start considering the possibility that the Democrats are going to take over the House.  So what would that Democratic House look like?  Michael Barone breaks down the challenges facing the new Speaker...Nancy Pelosi.

President Bush will be at a fundraiser in Chicago on Thursday, and Speaker Dennis Hastert will be there.  Robert Novak says this creates an uncomfortable situation....with the now unpopular Hastert proving to be quite the distraction.

Are those that are calling for Dennis Hastert's resignation overreacting?  Byron York analyzes the several schools of thought in the Foley sex scandal.....and decides which one seems to be winning out for now.

Professor Mike Adams has some letters he has written to students, but decided not to send because they were too offensive.  So since he didn't send them to his students.....he decided to publish them in his column for you to read.  Names have been changed to protect the innocent.
