ABOUT TIME

Do you feel like we're safer in the United States now than we were September 12, 2001?
Absolutely!
No, not really
George Bush said what needed to be said yesterday ... finally.  When it comes to fig hinting Islamic fascism the Democrats just simply don't have the right stuff.  Period.  End of sentence.  End of story.  End of us, if we make the wrong choice in our leadership.

Bush said:  "Five years after 9/11, the worst attack on the American homeland in our history, Democrats offer nothing but criticism and obstruction and endless second-guessing."

He's right.  Dead on.  Democrats have offered no real strategy for fighting Islamic fascism.  Well, unless you call withdrawal a strategy.   Cut and run.  Pull our troops out of Iraq.  Give the Islamists a stunning victory over the world's greatest military power.  That's the strategy.  Just how do you think that one would work out for us?

The Democrat's response? Well .. Bush hasn't caught Osama bin Laden yet.  Well, guess what?  The Allies never captured Adolf Hitler or Tojo during World War II.  Does that mean we didn't prevail?  After the Germans were routed did the "loyal" opposition in this country start screaming that we hadn't captured Hitler yet?  Fact is, we never got him.  He managed to take himself out before we could get to him.  I guess that means we failed.

Of course the Democrats are still pounding on that National Intelligence Estimate .. .you remember, the one that says many radical Muslims got ticked off when we started killing radical Muslims .. and so they came to help out.  Funny how the Democrats don't seem to mention the fact that that very same National Intelligence Estimate says that if the US prevails in Iraq it will mean a huge decrease in Islamic radicalism.  The Democrats don't want to mention that because they don't want to prevail in Iraq.

See how easy this is when you just stop to noodle it all out?

No matter what, Republicans have one issue that they know the American people trust them on:  national security.  By allowing themselves to be drawn into a debate about terrorism, Democrats have taken the bait.  They're being forced to debate an issue on which they cannot compete.  Karl Rove also knows that the Democrats have no plan for Iraq.  Their idea of cutting and running is about as popular as the war itself is.  They have no solution because right now there is no better solution.

And just how is America less safe from terrorism in the last 5 years?  How many terrorist attacks have there been on U.S. soil since 9/11?  Oh, that's right...none.

MORE OF THE SAME FROM CARTER

Jimmy Carter, out on the campaign trail himself because his son is running for a Senate seat from Nevada, has also weighed in on this less safe/more safe business.  First, he complained that the war in Iraq has divided the nation almost as much as Vietnam.  Democrats love this comparison.  They know Vietnam is now viewed as a mess ... so all they have to do is tie Iraq to Vietnam, and they've won!  Let' the war against Islamic terrorism and the battles being fought in Iraq stand on their own.

Then when it came to terrorism, the Nobel Appeasement Prize winner had this to say:  "So there's no doubt that our country is in much more danger now from terrorism than it would have been if we would have done what we should have done and stayed in Afghanistan."  That's right!  We should have stayed in Afghanistan!  Well, perhaps somebody should inform the former President of the United States that we are still in Afghanistan...but why argue over such small details?  Besides, you couldn't prevent Saddam Hussein from pursuing his weapons programs by staying in Afghanistan.

By the way, Democrats have taken to mentioning Afghanistan a lot these days.  They do it to rub in the fact that we still haven't caught Osama Bin Laden.  But didn't those same Democrats tell us back when we killed Zarqawi that he was just one man and that the insurgency would continue no matter what?  Isn't Osama Bin Laden just one man?  Will capturing or killing him really matter that much?

And of course, just as with the Dems in Congress, Carter doesn't provide a better solution to the situation in Iraq.  That's because neither he nor his party have one, other than total surrender.

I hate to say it .. but Carter is becoming a disgusting example of the American appeasement, peace-at-any-price idiot left.

TERRORISM:  IT CAN BE LIVED WITH

Director Oliver Stone, who recently directed the movie 'World Trade Center' about 9/11, is announcing that he is ashamed of the United States

By the way, according to a lot of reviews, some of them from conservative commentators, 'World Trade Center' is a good movie.  But back to Stone's comments, made in Spain at a film festival.

He says President Bush has "set America back 10 years" and that he is "ashamed for my country."  Don't you just love this?  Here is a guy who has been a successful Hollywood movie director and screenwriter.  He has no doubt earned millions of dollars.  It's easy for these guilty liberal Hollywood types to sit back and say how bad of a place America is.  But they never seem to mention just how good this country has been to them.

And isn't it odd how often they chose to make their anti-American remarks on foreign soil?

Then Stone really went off the deep end, giving his real feelings on terrorism:  "If there had been a better sense of preparation, if we had a leadership that was more mature.  We did not fight back in the same way that the British fought the IRA or the Spanish government fought the Basques here.  Terrorism is a manageable action.  It can be lived with."

So there you have it....terrorism, it can be lived with.  Perhaps that could be a new slogan for the Democratic party.  Start making commercials...print the signs...there's only 5 weeks to go.  Just imagine Nancy Pelosi signing off each national Democratic ad with that slogan!

Here's your bumper sticker!

Terrorism!
We can live with it!

Just in case you thought Oliver Stone had stopped being a certified moonbat because he made a patriotic film, now you know better.  The more things change, the more they stay the same.

MORE ON THE WUSSIFICATION OF AMERICA -- THE OSCODA MIGHTY OWLS

OK .. now think back on the lessons you learned from your parents and those you admired when you were young.  Just what would you do when you got knocked on your keister?  Would you give up?  Would you just grab your ball and go home?

Well ... I'm not so sure about you, but I learned differently.  I was taught that you built character by getting up, dusting yourself off, repairing the damage, and wading right back into the fight.

How many times was Abraham Lincoln defeated in his quest for public office?  As I remember, Lincoln lost at least four elections before he finally was elected President of the United States.  But you don't have to look as far as Abe Lincoln to understand the value of perseverance.  Your own parents, especially if they were part of the World War II generation, could also give you a lesson or two; and hopefully they did.

Well .. that brings us to the Oscoda, Michigan high school football team.  The Oscoda Area High School is, according to Rexford Hart, the principal, the "home of the mighty Owls."

Mighty?

If you will look at the athletics page on the Mighty Owls website you will see that there is no mention of football.  And just why would that be?  Well, that would be because the school officials have decided to cancel the football season.  The Owls, it would seem, weren't so mighty on the playing field.

The Oscoda Owls played four games, lost badly, didn't score a point, and then gave up.  That's it ... they just gave up.  Well ---- to be fair --- they were TOLD to give up.  After the first four games the Oscoda School Board decided to cancel the remainder of the football season.  They forced these young guys to quit.  The football players didn't like it, and either did their parents, but the school board decided that they just weren't going to win, so they needed to quit.  Forfeit the remainder of the games.  Besides, they might get hurt.

Maybe they could just get the football players to play soccer!  That's the ticket!  Soccer is the athletic refuge for mommies and daddies who don't want their precious little children to play a sport where they might get hurt!  That ought to satisfy these disappointed football players.

So .. what is the lesson learned by the members of the Oscoda Owls football team?  In fact, what is the lesson learned by virtually all of the members of the Oscoda Area High School student body?  This is one of the easiest lesson plans in history.  So simple.  One word.

QUIT

Don't' get up.  Don't come back fighting. Don't dust yourself off and wade back in.  When the going gets tough, quit.  When the road gets rough ... forfeit!  No more sucking it up around here!  We're the not-so-mighty Owls!  Beat us and we'll stick our tails between our legs and slink off..

High school is a learning experience.  The students at Oscoda high school have just learned to give up.

Listen To Testimony

Here's a fun one from down under.  Dress like an American tourist and film the Sydney bridge .. .no problem.  But ... change what you're wearing ......

People are noticing that the bills in Congress authorizing military tribunals omit many rights that criminals are entitled to under our legal system.  Good.  The Islamic terrorists we are trying under these tribunals don't deserve anything more than we give them.

Speaking of the military tribunals....the Senate has OK'd the tribunal bill approved by the House and sent it to the president for his signature.  53 Republicans and 12 Democrats voted for the bill.  Of course Lincoln Chafee, "Republican" of Rhode Island voted against it.

This should come as no surprise....Mexico opposes the border wall with the United States.  Why would they do such a thing?  Because illegal aliens are a great source of money for their country.  And when is somebody going to ask Mexico if they're embarrassed by how many people want to escape their third world country?

The Democrats' strategy going into the midterms is to beat the anti-Iraq war drum
as much as policy.  But Daniel Henninger says that might not be the best thing to do and argues that the Democrats can't beat policy with politics.

And now a message from former New York Mayor Ed Koch...liberal Democrat.  He talks about the controversy between Muslims and the Pope and reminds people what we're up against in the War On Terror.  If only his own political party would listen.

Roger Kimball looks at the decision in Germany to shut down an opera production for fear of enraging Muslims, who were upset about a certain scene.  Kimball wonders where it will all end...when will the appeasement stop?

The Democrats have seized upon the National Intelligence Estimate, leaked by the New York Times, and decided that the entire document must be released.  David Limbaugh argues that this is more of the same....Democrats aiding the enemy.

Pat Buchanan, ever the protectionist, says it's time to impose taxes on imports and bring manufacturing jobs home.  He says the yearly $816 billion trade deficit is killing the United States.  Agree or disagree,  Buchanan always makes his case.

William F. Buckley looks at the choice facing voters in Connecticut November 7th.  Do they vote for Ned Lamont, the anti-war Leftist, Joe Lieberman or the Republican (there is one?)  Buckley reminds people that Joe Lieberman is very much a liberal.

Mona Charen weighs in with a column about how parents are increasingly allowing
their daughters to walk out the door dressed like tramps with T-shirts with suggestive messages.  She wonders where all of the grown-ups have gone.
