THE WIRETAP RULING

I really hate to disappoint my loyal listeners, but as of this time I'm really not ready to jump on U.S. District Court Judge Anna Diggs Taylor for her ruling yesterday [pdf] .. a ruling which says that Bush's wiretap program is unconstitutional.  I want to read the full ruling first .. then I'll jump if a leap is warranted.

There is one thing that bothers me from the get-go, and that is what I feel to be Judge Taylor's animosity toward the president.  There is some language in the excerpts of her ruling that I've already read that seem to be just a bit harsh.  That remark that "there are no hereditary kings in America" would be an example.

Here's something I want you to think about though.  Let's consider a scenario.  U.S. Intelligence forces are eavesdropping on the cell phone conversations of an Islamic terrorist in Pakistan.  It is starting to become clear that this Islamic terrorist is in the final steps of implementing a terror attack on a U.S. target ... let's say a large shopping mall.  Our intelligence agents are on pins and needles because it looks like this man is preparing to call the Islamic goons who will carry out the attack and give them the go-ahead.  As our intelligence people watch their monitors it suddenly becomes clear that the terrorist is making a phone call to the United States.  This could be it!  He may be calling his contact to discuss the final details and timing of the attack!

Under Judge Taylor's ruling will our intelligence folks have the authority to listen to the conversation, or will they have to hang up? If they can listen, fine. If they have to get a warrant a few days later from that super-secret court, fine. If they have to hang up .. not fine.

When this story first surfaced the media seemed to make a group decision to refer to the wiretapping as "domestic."  It wasn't.  As I understand the situation, only international calls were monitored, and then only international calls wherein the party outside of the U.S. was suspected of a connection to Islamic radicals.

Now .. as an aside ... there was one line that Judge Taylor used in her ruling that really intrigues me.  She wrote that there are ".. no powers not created by the Constitution."  Izzat so?  Then pray tell, Judge Taylor, just how can our Imperial Federal Government seize 14% of my paycheck and slam it into an income-redistribution program that may or may not -- there is no guarantee -- pay me some of that money back when I retire?

ILLEGAL ALIEN HOLED UP IN CHURCH

This is one of those stories that is supposed to pull your heart strings.  It involves the case of 31-year-old Elvira Arellano, a Chicago woman and illegal immigrant from Mexico.  Rather than face deportation, she has decided to seek refuge in a Chicago church...where she's been for a couple days.  Evidently her thought process is that the Feds aren't going to march into a place of worship and arrest her.  She's probably right.

But here's the wrinkle...she has a 7-year-old son...who is a U.S. citizen.  So why shouldn't we feel sorry for Ms. Arellano?  Well, here's what she did to get on the wrong side of things and face deportation.  In 1997, she illegally came to the United States and got deported.  She came right back, this time hanging around for several more years before being arrested at O'Hare airport where she worked as a cleaning lady under a false Social Security number.  She was ordered to appear at the immigration office in Chicago...and here we are.

So what should happen?  The Immigration and Customs Enforcement should follow the law.  March right up to the door of the church with a warrant for her arrest and take her in.  There is a right way to come to the United States.....and this isn't it.  If we continue to make exceptions for illegal aliens that are breaking our laws and coming here by the millions, then we'll never get a handle on illegal immigration.

But...they're not going to do that.  They'll wait her out.  The minute she leaves (and she will,) they'll arrest her and ship her back to Mexico where she belongs.

One more thing.  We need to change the law that makes children born to illegal aliens automatic U.S. citizens.  Few countries follow this example.  It makes no sense for us either.

LETTING THE FOX INTO THE HENHOUSE

This is so outrageous it's almost not believable.  Back in June, the Department of Homeland Security took CAIR...the Council on American-Islamic Relations, on a tour of security facilities at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.  No, your eyes do not deceive you.  That's exactly what they did.

So what did the CAIR folks get to see on their tour?  It was a terrorist's dream.  They got to see screening procedures, interview rooms and a rundown on the passenger lookout system.  The people conducting the tour, always desperate for the politically correct approval of the enemy, assured CAIR that Muslims weren't singled out for special screening.  We're sure our friends at Al-Qaeda headquarters are pleased.

So who is CAIR and why should we be concerned?  CAIR is an offshoot of the Islamic Association for Palestine, a front group for Hamas.  A number of people in CAIR management have been convicted on terrorism charges.  That explains why CAIR gives no more than lip service to any condemnation of terrorism.    But hey.....they sure are happy that airport screeners at O'Hare undergo Muslim sensitivity training.

All of this further supports the assertion that airport security is a joke and we're sitting ducks for another attack.  We know who the enemy is, yet we refuse to do anything about it, for fear of offending anyone.  And that's why 3,000 people died on 9/11.  We will let it happen again?  It sure seems like it.

THE NUMBERS ON THE HISPANIC INVASION

That's right.  The invasion is still underway.  Even while the world was pressuring Israel to cave in to Hezbollah.  Even while were watching this strange little man confess to a murder he probably did not commit .. the invasion continues.

Here's an interesting website for you.  It's called immigrationCounters.com  The #1 Site for Real-Time Immigration Statistics.  I can't vouch for the accuracy of the information on this site .. but it sure does get your attention.  Here are the stats as of about 6:00 this morning:

  • Illegal Immigrants in Country    20,426,887
  • Money wired to Mexico    $23,575,296,302
  • Cost of Social Services for Illegal Immigrants        $397,469,111,828
  • Illegals Enrolled in Government Schools K-12        3,749,373
  • Cost of Illegal Immigrants Enrolled in K-12        $14,489,987,299
  • Illegal Immigrants Incarcerated        315,460
  • Cost for Incarcerations of Illegal Immigrants    $1,446,245,595
  • Illegal Immigrant Fugitives        623,761

Here's a statistic from elsewhere, one that I did check out.  Out of all of the outstanding warrants for murder in Los Angeles, 95% of them are for illegal aliens.

One more thing:  You do remember that immigration fuss in the Congress some weeks back, don't you?  The House had one version that called for the borders to be controlled and contained no guest worker program, the Senate had a bill calling for amnesty and only a token attempt to control the borders.  Nothing got done.  The Senate bill was written by Harry Reid and Ted Kennedy.  It contained a provision for about 370 miles of fencing along the Mexican-U.S. Border.  But .. here's what you probably didn't know.  That fence can only be built with after consulting Mexico as to its location.  Well isn't that special!  Mexico gets to decide where we put our border fences!

BOORTZ BACK IN DALLAS

We've had a rather rough time in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth radio market.  Many years ago we were kicking tail in the ratings on one particular Dallas talk station when we were inexplicably removed to make room for some character who's previous experience was hosting "The Hot Tub Radio Party" in another market.  Why?  I have no idea.  I guess I really ticked someone off someone at the station.

Oh well.

Anyway, Mr. Hot Tub Radio Party lasted a few months and then it was off to try a variety of other hosts.  None worked, and that particular station couldn't draw flies to a dump.

Next  we were on the air on Dallas' WBAP!  This station was  owned by ABC, and when Hannity went into syndication I was removed to make way for Sean.  And so it goes.  He's the man anyway, so who can blame them!

Well ... now The Neal Boortz Show is coming back!  On September 11, 2006 we'll be back on the air from 9:00 to 11:00 mornings on KMGS 1160 AM!  KMGS recently upgraded it's signal to 35,000 watts, and now the show will be heard from the Oklahoma border south to Corsicana, West to Weatherford and east to Tyler.  This covers the entire Dallas / Ft. Worth This is a huge deal for me because:  (a) I consider myself to be a Texan, and (b) my ultra-leftist brother lives in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area and this will cause him to spend a considerable amount of time gnashing his teeth and rolling his eyes!

So Texas ... get ready.  Boortz is coming back to Dallas.  Just a few more weeks and we'll be there!

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

It's good that there are heroes for little redneck children too. More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Yesterday on the show I predicted that this whole JonBenet Ramsey confession of John Mark Karr would blow up within a week.  Do I hear three days?  I hope I'm wrong.  It would be nice if they had found the murderer ... but I'm not the only one with doubts.

Hezbollah is all upset at the release of a video that shows Israeli soldiers socializing with Lebanese soldiers who had apparently surrendered their post, not wanting a fight with the Israelis.  This is yet more evidence that the neverending fighting in the Middle East is at times fueled not by the people, but by their leaders.

Maybe now we'll get some Hollywood types on board with the Fair Tax plan.  The Internal Revenue Service has announced their intent to go after celebrities who don't declare the value of their Oscar goodie bags as income.

Democrats are talking about stripping Joe Lieberman of his seniority
within the Democratic caucus.  They're upset that he hasn't dropped out of the race for re-election.  Too bad... Joe leads the polls by 12 points and looks likely to win.   So much for all the bluster about Ned Lamont's big gains.

Utah Senator Orrin Hatch says terrorists are hoping for a Democratic victory this November.
Liberals call it the 'politics of fear,' but Hatch is absolutely right.  Nothing would please Osama Bin Laden more than to see Nancy Pelosi take the Speaker's gavel next January.

Pat Buchanan, an outspoken critic of the Bush Administration and its foreign policy,
says the day of reckoning is coming for the neoconservatives he says are running things.  He may very well be right.

Former Senator and Vice Presidential nominee John Edwards (Who? Oh yeah..him) says he made a mistake
in voting for the war in Iraq.  At least he admits he did vote for the war.  This is unlike his former boss The Poodle and Hillary Clinton.

A new poll by the liberal Pew Research Center for the People & the Press says that terrorism is not what people want politicians to focus on in this fall's election.  The main issues, they say, are education, gas prices, health care and Iraq.  Interesting to note no mention of illegal immigration.

What happens when you take $170 million and throw it down a rathole, completely wasted?  You get the FBI's new computer system, something called "Virtual Case File."  All that  money was spent and not a single thing came of it.  How nice.  Government is so efficient, isn't it?

Despite the fact that Hezbollah won the first round with Israel and the incompetent U.N. is now being put in charge, Charles Krauthammer says all is not lost.  He says there is a moment to be seized in Lebanon.

Bush's poll numbers are in the basement and people are dying in Iraq every day.  That begs the question...is Iraq a lost cause?  If you ask the media, the answer is yes...but Tom Bevan isn't so sure.

Jimmy Carter says his views represent the vast majority of Democrats in the United States.  David Limbaugh writes if that's the case, then that's scary.  He takes a look at Carter's recent comments made in the foreign press.

Little girl gets horrible surprise at her birthday party at the zoo.

I wouldn't want their water bill. [Friday cat video]
