MAKE NO MISTAKE .. THE U.N. IS AFTER OUR GUNS

There's a little conference going on at the United Nations.  It's really not getting all that much media coverage.  Perhaps that's because America's leftist media really isn't all that interested in preserving our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.  There seems to be something the left likes about the fact that if guns are outlawed only the government would have guns.

The U.N. conference is charged with the responsibility to "prevent, combat and eradicate the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all aspects."  U.N. officials and the anti-gun crowd will be quick to tell you that the purpose of this conference is most definitely NOT to work toward a ban on the private ownership of guns.  They would be quick to tell you this, but they would be lying.  If you have been paying attention to the news reports you will have noted that much of the attention is focused on individuals who get caught up somehow on what is called "gun violence."  One woman from Brooklyn tells of a friend being killed in a drive-by.  Another woman from South Africa talks of being shot in another drive-by.  The message is clear.  People should not be allowed to own guns.

The United Nations is not now, nor has it ever been a friend of liberty, a friend of freedom, or a friend of the people of the United States.  For decades the U.N. has been after some sort of a program whereby it could levy a direct tax on American citizens, and the citizens of other wealthy nations, to fund its operations.  Now they're even proposing a tax on all gun purchases to combat world hunger.

One thing's for sure.  When the U.N. tells you that it is not trying to ban the private ownership of guns, you can be sure that the U.N. is trying to ban the private ownership of guns.

NEW YORK MAYOR SAYS ILLEGALS ESSENTIAL

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg came out yesterday and said that without illegal aliens in this country, the United States' economy could collapse.  Speaking to a Senate committee, the mayor actually said this: "Although they broke the law by illegally crossing our borders,  our city's economy would be a shell of itself had they not, and it would collapse if they were deported.  The same holds true for the nation."  I wonder how he feels about the illegal immigrants that flew airplanes into The World Trade Center on 9/11?  Oh....Bloomberg was just talking about Mexicans...got it.

This is the route the illegal alien apologists seem to be taking these days.  No one is really proposing that all 12 million illegal aliens be rounded up and sent back all at once.  This isn't particularly practical, given the law enforcement resources something like that would take.  What people have been proposing is strengthening the border, sending the illegals back to apply through proper channels for work permits in this country, and actually enforcing the laws on the books.  Bloomberg knows that if he came out and said what he really means, which is he is in favor of illegal immigration, that wouldn't be too popular.  So like many on the left (Bloomberg is a Republican in name only,) he whips out the deportation straw man.

And what about this idea that our economy would collapse without illegal aliens?  Total nonsense. If illegal aliens weren't here to fill those jobs, they would be filled by Americans willing to do the work.  Perhaps some companies might have to raise their wages to an acceptable level, but the work would be done, and with minimal increases in the prices of goods and services.  Look around, the pay for these invaders isn't exactly what you would call paltry.

NORTH KOREA PREPARES ROUND TWO

After launching some 7 missiles and being condemned by several countries for it, North Korea is getting ready to do it again.  News reports say there are between 3 and 4 missiles on the launching pad in question.  The Gargoyle is loving the attention he's getting from all this...so he'll no doubt keep up his temper tantrum.

The United Nations Security Council met yesterday to consider the question of North Korea.  The United States, Great Britain, Japan and other countries wanted strong sanctions against North Korea.  The Chinese and the Russians wanted a weaker response.  Why?  Simple.  They see North Korea's actions as a direct provocation to the United States.  They know that the U.S. is beset by peace-at-any-price weasels who will decry any strong reaction to North Korea's actions.  They want to leave this matter on the doorstep of the U.S., knowing that our response will be weak, and will therefore weaken the United States in the eyes of the international community.  The left wants a weaker America, so do China and Russia.  Kim Jong Il is a very useful fool in this regard.

And so North Korea rolls on, firing more missiles into the Sea of Japan, knowing that its buddies in Russia, China and on the American Left won't do a single thing about it. Perhaps when one of those missiles lands in a populated city, the international community will change its tune.

SADDAM'S 9/11 LINK GETTING STRONGER

The folks over at Fox News have been doing research into the link between Saddam Hussein and terrorism, and there's some intriguing news to report today.  Capture Iraqi government computer files show a training manual for Arab operatives working in Afghanistan, prior to 9/11.  The manual advises those operating in Afghanistan to stay under the radar and be careful.  So what is Iraq doing with such a training manual?

The only conclusion a reasonable person can draw is that it is because Iraq had something to do with Arab terrorists functioning in Afghanistan under the Taliban.  What would they be doing there?  Perhaps working with Al-Qaeda?  They certainly weren't there as tourists. Is it possible that Saddam's government actually prepared this manual for terrorist use?

So now this, along with other evidence that shows Saddam's government met with Al-Qaeda in Baghdad, clearly shows a link between Hussein and terrorism.  Not only that, but if Iraq was training Arab operatives in Afghanistan prior to 9/11, what does that mean?  It at least hints at the idea that Saddam Hussein may have had something to do with the attacks themselves.

It is almost accepted religious philosophy on the part of the Democratic Party that there was no link between Saddam Hussein and terrorism.  If such a link is proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, the mainstream media will be most disappointed.  Such information would interrupt their Bush-bashing template. As such, expect this news report to be swept under the rug...and not reported anywhere but Fox News.

Just like the WMD's that have been found, most people will never know about Saddam's hand in state-sponsored terrorism.

HAPPY 60TH!

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary today.  Congratulations are in order, as they are for everyone out there who has managed to stay married for decades.  The number-one status symbol you can acquire in our society is not a fancy car, a yacht, an airplane or a multi-million dollar mansion.  That number-one status symbol is a long-term marriage.  You can't win one.  You can't buy one.  There's only one way to get one .. and that is to work your ass off for decades.  So, congratulations to Jimmy

CINDY SHEEHAN --- COMPLETE UNADULTERATED FOOL

Come on, folks.  How much proof do you need that this woman is a complete idiot?  She calls George Bush the greatest terrorist in the world, and now she's saying that she would rather live under Hugo Chavez in Venezuela than George Bush in the United States.

Well, Cindy, I know that this is like shooting fish in a barrel, but there's nothing stopping you from moving?  If you like Hugo Chavez so much I'm sure he would welcome you down there with open arms!  You would get star treatment in return for Hugo being able to use you to continually embarrass George Bush. 

Cindy Sheehan is perhaps the left's number one symbol of the anti-war movement.  A complete moonbat who wants to live under the dictatorial rule of Hugo Chavez.  Hell ... I'll pay for her ticket to Venezuela.  One way -- one condition.  She renounces her American citizenship when she gets there and burns her passport.

INDEPENDENCE DAY IN MEMPHIS

Just when you thought the 4th of July couldn't get any more hokey, Memphis, Tennessee had to roll out Lady Liberty, herself, adorned in the Holy cross and Ten Commandments. The 72-foot statue is a sight for sore eyes as Apostle Alton R. Williams of the World Overcomers Outreach Ministries Church unveiled the gargantuan excuse for a patriotic salute to Jesus and America. 

Now, does the church have the right to erect such a ridiculous parody? Absolutely. Would I be torqued if I were a member of the congregation? Absolutely, because my money could have been spent on more important things, like better juice boxes at the next barbecue. But this just goes to show that the Statue of Liberty, just like the American flag, is just a symbol. Critics say it is not right that the statue mixes God and government. Well, who is to say that they can't do so? If they want to burn her, bathe her or dress her up for Jesus, the people have the right to do it. Just not on the government's time or on my, the taxpayer's, bill. Oh ... and just so they don't try this with the real Lady Liberty out there in that New York harbor. 

So I hope Memphis enjoys their newest homage to this great nation. I bet these worshippers felt like the most patriotic Americans on the block. Why don't we send them a copy of my little quiz I concocted? Heck, we can throw in a few Bible questions too and see how they do. Maybe they will begin to understand the real foundations of this country. And I don't think a green 72-foot,  Lady Liberty promoting a specific religion was quite what our forefathers had in mind.

The general population in the United States is about to rise to 300 million, so you know what that means.  Time for nonsensical stories from the mainstream media about traffic problems, urban sprawl and oh...we're running out of natural resources.  There's no more room!

The wire service Agence France-Presse (known more widely as AFP) circulated a story yesterday calling American pride in our flag an 'epidemic,' as if patriotism were some sort of disease.  The French never stop hating us, do they?

The AP is running a story about how some of the financial victims of the Enron collapse feel ripped off because Ken Lay died without serving a day in jail.  Come on...the guy is dead.  What more do people want?  Oh, and according to the autopsy, he died from coronary heart disease with no sign of foul play.  Let the conspiracy theories begin.

Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, most recently known for slugging a cop in D.C., is facing a stiff primary challenge on July 18th.  There will be debates on Friday and Saturday...and they're going to be televised.  This is going to be entertaining.

With all of the attention on the New York Times for blowing the terrorist financing tracking program, Ann Coulter is fed up with New York's #2 paper: The New York Post.  She did an interview for the Post that they didn't use, but now she's presenting it in this week's column.

The Premier of Alberta, Canada is criticizing Al Gore for his statements about how they extract oil from the ground up in the Canadian province.  Here's the best line: "I don't know what he proposes the world run on, maybe hot air."

Michelle Malkin skewers the New York Times for their constant leaking of U.S. Military secrets.  She looks at the newspaper's excuse-making machine since they disclosed the top secret terrorist financing tracking program.

For years now, blacks have been a reliable voting group for the Democratic party.  Thomas Sowell wonders why this is so, considering the Democrats haven't really done too much lately for the community.

The New York Times refers to the public interest whenever they spill the beans about one secret government program or another.  But as Brent Bozell reports, the Times has its own motivations...which aren't a secret.
