RICH PEOPLE GET MORE SLEEP
There's a new study making the rounds in the media today that says rich people get more sleep than lower income earners. The study is of 669 adults in Chicago. Just Chicago? Perhaps it's just rich people in Chicago that get more sleep? Well, somebody decided the study was scientific, so we'll just roll with it for now.
Researchers initially thought it would be the other way around...wealthy people, because they work so much and have more demanding jobs, they would get less sleep. Not so, it seems. But where the findings border on the ridiculous is this: they say that people who make less money have more worries that prevent them from sleeping. They could be living in noisier surroundings and have more health problems. Boo hoo. I have a better explanation.
Perhaps it's because wealthier people have more discipline...and get to bed at a decent hour. After all, being wealthy is merely a matter of making good choices throughout your life. Getting a good night's sleep can be a matter of choice. Hit the sack, or hang out at the local bar? Remember, the rich keep getting richer because they keep doing the things that made them rich. Ditto for the poor. This can apply to rest also. But .. the important thing here is that yet another inequality has been observed. Rich people are getting more sleep. Solutions, anyone? How about a sleep distribution program? How about some program designed to keep rich people awake longer so that the odds will get evened out here? How about mandated naps in the afternoon based on income levels! Oh, what rich ground we have here for the more-government crowd!
SCHUMER POUNDS GOP OVER IMMIGRATION
Joining the leader of his party, Howard Dean, New York Senator Chuck Schumer is accusing the Republicans of using immigration as a central campaign issue. He says it's like Willie Horton in 1988 and gay marriage in 2004. The tactic is clear. Democrats are on the losing side of the immigration issue. What to do? It simple! If you're on the losing side of an issue you simply demonize the winning side .... for being on the winning side!
What some (not all) Republicans are opposing is illegal immigration. Does not Chuck Schumer oppose illegal immigration? Evidently not. He's also in for a surprise if the thinks Democrats are going to ride this particular idea to victory this fall. Poll after poll shows that the overwhelming majority of Americans have grown tired of the illegal alien invasion and want something done.
Running against illegal immigration is a solid issue...and Republicans are already winning with it. I can't see Democrats being swept into power on the backs of illegal aliens ... unless, of course, those illegal aliens vote! But at least Schumer is being honest. He wants more illegal aliens...and thus potential Democratic voters...to come to the United States. If he's lucky, maybe he can even buy them off with one of his taxpayer-funded government programs.
COME ON .. GIVE DISNEY A BREAK! OK .. so a young boy died at Disney's MGM resort yesterday. It's tragic. I feel just terrible for his his family. I also feel terrible for the people at Disney who were handling the ride at that point. The young lad died on the Rock n' Roller Coaster. Belinda, Royal and I have ridden that coaster several times. It's one of my favorite attractions at Disney ... second to the Expedition Everest attraction. It's a roller coaster not unlike hundreds of roller coasters around the world. This death was not Disney's fault. An autopsy will be performed today, and my guess is that it will show some previously unknown problem with this poor kid. But boy does the media love this story. Kid dies at Disney! Give it a rest.
EMAIL!
OK .. what should I do here? I love posting email to Nealz Nuze, mainly because I get such great feedback. So ... here are a couple of offerings that we received over the past few days. Remember, the best ones are usually reserved for the Boortz Blast email newsletter! Now ... some a few questions on posting email protocol:
- Should I correct spelling? The only thing I do to is run the spell checker through .. and I miss a lot of my own stuff! So should I attempt to correct spelling? Or should I let the emails stand as they were written.
- Should I include the name and the return email address of the sender? Sometimes I get the uncomfortable feeling that some of you clowns out there might send some nasty emails back .. and you know that wouldn't be right. So today I've eliminated the email addresses of the senders.
- Obscenities. Leave them in or take them out? Or do I use this &(%$^()^% stuff to hide them?
So ... here you go! Enjoy! Message: How can you justify trashing my beliefs? For my entire life, which includes 20 years in the U.S. Navy, I have believed it should be against the law to burn the flag in protest. Now, after only 3 weeks of listening to your show, you've trashed those beliefs and I now agree with your assessment of the Freedom of Speech side of the issue. Seriously, I love your show and only wish I'd learned about you and listened sooner. One other item, I really think you should take helicopter lessons. I spent 20 years as a helicopter crewman and there's just something special about sitting 20 feet or so in the air and not moving. Fly safe. Message: See, the schools you went to as a child failed to teach you properly. That is your main problem. People have a right to government sponsored loans, housing, transportation, medical care, retirement benefits and food. We the people pay taxes and we should get it back, and if there is not enough money, then take it from the rich people, they probably stole it from us working people anyway. If you read any history you would see that in our democratic society, it has always been the government's job to take care of the people. Why should it change, you want to take all of our benefits away, that proves you are a social elitist, and a racist. That's why you always talk about the fair tax and how the government should only do the stuff it is allowed to do in the constitution. Remember the are all kinds of stuff the framers didn't have room to put into the constitution, but it still is there, the judges have the notes and that's how they rule. You just want to drag us working people down so you can get richer. Message: It is truly unbelievable the ammount of grief you are catching on your stand on the flag burning ammendment. What kind of idiots are these people. We cannot pick and choose what parts of the Constitution we like and ignore the other. I consider myself a Constitutionalist. I support all parts. I have to if I consider myself a true American. I, like you, would probably beat the crap out of someone for burning the flag, especially in my yard. I do sometimes have anger issues. But I believe under the first ammendment, they have that right. I think they are idiots, but the Constitution gives them the right to their stupid opinion. Message: Hi Neal, While I agree with your position on freedom of speech. Especially that Freedom of Speech is more important than a flag, in any country, I do have a question: How is burning a flag speaking? Burning a flag is an expression, a physical act. (No .. this person was serious! NB) Message: Im a strong conservative and will stay that way. You are an oppinionated butthole who is rude and arrogant to everyone. That is getting old to listeners and advertisers. Your message is being clowded by your arrogance and the fact that you are the king of ASSHOLES. I hope you don't disregard this as I agree with you in principle but am tired of our stupid arrogant representatives, that mostly means you. BTW no one cares about your trips to Florida in fact I bet they hate you there. I lived there and assholes like you were laughed at behind their backs. Print this please Message: When they say "Give Back" they don't mean just that they have a right to take itback. The "right to take it back" stems from the fact that the "rich person" took it from all the poor people in the first place. Mean rich people who take it from the poor and never "give anything back! They forget all the jobs the "rich person suppliese people who want to earn their livelihoods. Guess that's because they don't work in the first place, except to take other working people's money.

Al Gore went on the Daily Show the other day and said that he won Florida in 2000. Why then did he concede the election to George W. Bush? Oh, that's right. Because he lost Florida.
In case you think winning the lottery is going to be the key to making all of your dreams come true, you might want to take note. A new study says money doesn't buy you much happiness. Hey, NBC is building a TV series around that concept.
The United States Supreme Court leaned far to the left in barring military tribunals for prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Ronald Cass takes a look at the outrageous decision made by the justices...and their reasons for doing so.
The Iraqi government has proposed amnesty for the insurgency...and Charles Krauthammer, surprisingly, says it may be a worthwhile strategy. After all, he points out we're probably not going to defeat the insurgents militarily.
Except for the Bush Administration and select Republicans, there seems to be a lack of outrage over the New York Times' leak of the terrorist financing tracking program. Byron York wants to know where the outrage is.
If the White House really believes that the New York Times committed treason in disclosing the top-secret terrorist financing program, they why haven't they gone after the paper? Pat Buchanan says President Bush seems resigned to essentially doing nothing about it.
Jonah Goldberg has some interesting observations in his column today. He notes how partisanship is changing these days, particularly the differences between liberals and conservatives. He notes that modern conservatism is rapidly changing from its Reagan roots.
The Voting Rights Act is coming up for renewal, and Mona Charen brings us up to speed on just what is at stake. First of all, it has nothing to do with the rights of minorities to vote. It's all about certain provisions...some of which may shock you.
Howard Dean is at it again...accusing the Bush presidency of being the "McCarthy Era." But as David Limbaugh points out, Democrats have been attacking Bush for years...and no matter what it is, he can't do anything right.
Oliver North explains just how damaging the New York Times' disclosure of the terrorist finance tracking program is. The government has been following the money between terrorist networks and mapping them out. Today's random video...man catches cobra in his mouth. Another Nigerian scammer, scammed! |
