DEMOCRATS BACK TO CUTTING AND RUNNING

It's not even been two weeks since Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi was whacked by a 500-pound bomb,  and already the Democrats are back to their familiar strategy.  At the time when there is good evidence that the Iraqi insurgency is on the run, the Democrats' strategy is simple: it's time to cut and run.  Bring the troops home.  The war is a failure, they say.

Well, that didn't take long, did it?

Speaking on CNN yesterday, California Senator Dianne Feinstein had the following rosy prediction: "Three years and three months into the war, with all of the losses, the insurgency, the burgeoning civil war that's taking place -- what was it, seven bombings in Baghdad yesterday?   An open-ended time commitment is no longer sustainable."  I'm sure the troops are humbled by her overwhelming show of support.

This is the same message we've been getting from the left for 3 years, only now they're more desperate.  With the death of Al Zarqawi many Democrats started to panic.  Could things be turning Bush's way?  Could the new Iraqi government actually become a stabilizing force in Middle Eastern politics?  This simply cannot be allowed to happen!  Bush must fail!  So ... back to the old game plan.  Stir up the debate on withdrawal.  Divert minds from the successes and concentrate on bringing the troops home.  Failure in Iraq is not too great a price to pay for a Democrat victory in November.  Think about it .... without being able to run against the war in Iraq, they don't have much.

Yes .. in case you're wondering ... I absolutely do believe that Democrats would eagerly trade a failure of U.S. policy in Iraq for an election victory in November; such is their hatred of George Bush and their continuing resentment over the voter revolution of 1994.

Any timetable...any announcement of a date by which we are going to leave...would do nothing more than empower the terrorists who would lie in wait until we left, then take over. The war in Iraq has gotten it's second wind...and things are starting to go our way.  Just as the insurgents in Baghdad want us to fail there, the Democrats in Washington (except Joe Lieberman) are rooting for the failure of the entire mission.

And with the mainstream media in their back pocket, they hope to make that a reality.

HURRICANE "VICTIMS" SHOULDN'T BE BLAMED?

The LA Times ran an editorial, picked up by the Drudge Report, that says the "victims" of Hurricane Katrina shouldn't be blamed one bit for all of the misspent funds given to them by FEMA.  The Times' says it's all FEMA's fault.  This is a ridiculous position...but should we be surprised?  It's not very fashionable to demand some personal responsibility from one of the media's favorite victim groups.

Is it FEMA's fault for giving out all that money, without any strings attached?  Sure it is.  But it's also the fault of those who took our hard-earned taxpayer dollars...and spent them in strip clubs.  And on divorce lawyers, and whatever else.  But it just doesn't make for very good headlines to blame those who actually committed the fraud, is it?  After all, these people were victims, and everyone knows that victims can never be held to any standard of personal responsibility.

And by the way, just how long are we going to keep calling these people victims or refugees or evacuees or whatever?  We're coming up on a year since Hurricane Katrina blew through New Orleans.  At what point do you just cut the cord, look at people and tell them to get a job?

Even though FEMA mismanaged the relief operation, were they not supposed to give out the money to the victims?  Wasn't the media jumping up and down about how government wasn't doing enough?  Once again, the press wants it both ways.  It's all Bush's fault anyway, right?

NORTH KOREA THREATENING US WITH MISSILES

North Korea is treading on dangerous territory these days.  According to new intelligence photos, the communist country is going to be testing a long-range ballistic missile...one capable of reaching the continental United States.  The missiles appear to be fueled up and ready to go..on a remote section of North Korea's coast.  The missile is large enough to carry a nuclear weapon.

So what is North Korea up to?  Why would they need such a weapon?  Well, yesterday North Korea issued a statement promising to "mercilessly wipe out" US forces in the event of war.  Oh really.  So why exactly are we allowing all of this to happen?  Perhaps George Bush should go on TV instructing North Korea to put their missile away or we will do it for them.  That would send a message to them right back.

We didn't tolerate missiles in Cuba pointed at the United States and we shouldn't tolerate one in North Korea pointed at the United States.  But this is what you get when you "negotiate" with a rogue thug like the insane Kim Jong-Il.  We have been negotiating with North Korea for years.  The Clinton administration even sent the Secretary of State to make a worthless agreement with that nutcase...one that he immediately broke.

They've done this before...in 1998.  North Korea fired a missile over Japan..without warning.  Japan says North Korea can expect a harsh response from the United States if they do it again.  Why should we wait?

MORE FROM THE DITZY TWIT

Well .. she's at it again.  There's no denying Natalie Maines talent as the vocalist for the Ditzy Twits ... but being able to sing doesn't necessarily mean that you can develop a logical thought.  The Twit's careers took a nose dive a few years ago when Natalie chose a foreign stage to inform the world that she and her pals were ashamed that they were from the same state as George Bush.  They virtually disappeared from the country music play lists overnight.   There's no telling how many millions of dollars they lost as a result of that one remark.

Now the Twits have a new album out, and things aren't going all that much better for them.  Several concert dates have had to be cancelled, and others are in jeopardy.  Things seem to be going well for them in Europe though.  Any American act that is going to take to the stage and slam their president or their country is going to be a hit in Europe.

A few days ago  Natalie Maines was speaking to a reporter for the London Telegraph when the subject of their problems back home came up.  This time Natalie decided to share with the world the profundity of her thoughts on patriotism:

"The entire country may disagree with me, but I don't understand the necessity for patriotism.  Why do you have to be a patriot? About what? This land is our land? Why? You can like where you live and like your life, but as for loving the whole country... I don't see why people care about patriotism."

People care about patriotism, Natalie, because they love their country.  Many Americans, though you might be an exception, realize that there has never been any country in the history of civilized man that has done so much for so many people.  No country has brought the blessings of liberty to more people than the United States.  No nation has come to the assistance of more people and countries in need across the world, both militarily and with disaster aid than has the United States.  No system of governance has raised as many people out of poverty to a life free from want as has the system of economic liberty practiced in the United States.

Natalie --- you have the cash.  If you life in a country you can't feel patriotic about, then you can move.  Many entertainers have moved overseas.  You won't be the first.  In the words of my pal Ken Hamblin, pick a better country.

THE "GET IN THE HOLE" IDIOTS

About one hour after Phil Mickleson's huge choke job in the U.S. Open yesterday I received this email message from Terry:

Talkmaster, I've had it! I love playing golf, but I'm not watching anymore golf on TV. I tried to watch the U.S. Open Sunday, but all I heard after every shot were a bunch morons yelling at the top of their lungs, GET IN THE HOLE!!! It would seem if it's bothering me, it might be bothering a lot of other people. But the question is, why won't the PGA do anything about it? All they would have to do is throw a few idiots out and after that, the others would get the message. Just wondering, Terry

I'm with Terry.  The crowd was getting so rowdy toward the end of yesterday's tournament that I thought perhaps some planned demonstration was in the works.  At one point someone actually pulled out one of those little portable air horns and let loose with a blast.

Let me explain these "get in the hold" idiots.  Before they went to the course yesterday they called their friends and told them "Hey, man!  You be watching the Open this afternoon, OK?  And when the leader tees off on the 17th hole I'm going to yell 'get in the hole' so that you can hear me!  That will be me, OK?  Won't that be cool?  I mean, like wow!  You'll be able to hear me on the TV!  Cool!"

Terry's right.  The PGA needs to do something about these idiots who are just trying to get themselves heard on a TV broadcast.  Duck-marching a few of them right outside the gates and taking their tickets might be a start.

RELYING ON OTHERS ... THE RESULT.

Delta airlines is going to file a request today to terminate its pilot's pension plan.  This was expected.  It's part of Delta's effort to survive bankruptcy and become a viable airline once again.  The pilot's union has already agreed to the move.  If Delta's move is approved by the bankruptcy court judge, the responsibility for paying pension benefits to current Delta retirees will fall on the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp., a quasi-government agency.  One way or the other, taxpayer's money will be involved.

This situation illustrates the danger of relying on others for financing your retirement years.  For far too many years many Americans have been quite happy to leave their retirement planning up to either their employer or the federal government.  About 20% of Americans are actually convinced that they're going to get all of the money they need to retire through the purchase of a winning lottery ticket.

The biggest potential pension bust is, of course, Social Security.  Though most workers don't realize it, your Social Security benefits are no more guaranteed than these Delta pilot's pensions were.  Yet just a few years ago Americans overwhelmingly rejected the idea of turning their un-guaranteed government Social Security accounts into private investment accounts.  I'll never forgot one young idiot I saw on television saying that she was against any privatization of Social Security accounts because she didn't want to be troubled with having to make any investment decisions.  This was for the government to do.

People just love, it seems, to rely on government.  There's nothing like passing off your personal responsibilities so that you can spend more time just having fun.  I wonder how many Delta pilots there are today who wish they had done more to prepare for their own retirement years instead of placing their reliance in a corporate pension plan ... or the government.

Cindy Sheehan (remember her?) has made an important announcement.
She says that she supports deserters who have fled to Canada, rather than serve out their time in the Military.  And this honors her son's memory how?  He didn't flee to Canada.

Democrats may be wising up.....some of them are starting to look past Hillary and consider Barack Obama as a presidential contender in 2008.  But will the left be able to resist The Hildabeast?

What would Bill Clinton be doing if his wife were to be elected President of the United States?  Whatever she told him to, says Bill.  Just like she did when he was president.  Funny how that operation works.

Another laptop has been stolen, this time with names and Social Security numbers of 13,000 District of Columbia employees on it.  This time the computer was taken from the worker of the private company that administers the DC retirement plan.

Chuck Schumer is upset that Homeland Security cut the funding for New York at a time when it's being learned Al-Qaeda was planning another attack there.  This is rich....so Schumer is afraid of Al-Qaeda striking here, yet wants us to leave Iraq and hand it over to Al-Qaeda.  Why the double standard?  Because one position gets votes in New York.

John Murtha is shooting back at Karl Rove in the Iraq debate...by making fun of his personal appearance...and his air conditioned office.  Murtha is criticizing Rove for "sitting in his air-conditioned office on his fat backside."  On another note, Murtha also said his daddy could beat up Rove's daddy.

Ann Coulter is back in the news...over a controversy involving something she recently said.
Evidently she suggested in an e-mail to the press that John Murtha was the reason soldiers invented "fragging."  What's fragging?  Read on to find out.

Want to know why there are so many illegal aliens in the United States?  Aside from our weak border enforcement, here's another reason: employers are hiring illegals and not playing by the rules.  In fact, they're rarely fined for breaking the law.

There is still at least one enterprising member of the House of Representatives who is trying to remove pork projects from spending bills...so called "earmarks."  Robert Novak reports on how well his efforts succeeded.

The way that William Jefferson and the rest of the Congressional Black Caucus have handled Jefferson's corruption allegations show that  it's time for new leadership in the caucus.  So says columnist Star Parker, who calls their actions another disappointment.

Imagine the FairTax, a video available online, is an introduction to HR 25, The FairTax bill.
