BOOK
SIGNINGS NEXT WEEK!
We have two FairTax book signings coming up next
week in the Sunshine State! On Wednesday evening, June 14th, I'll be
at the Borders Book Store in Boca Raton at a signing hosted by our
Southeast Florida affiliate 850 WFTL!
After we do our show from the WFTL studio Wednesday morning we'll head
across the state to Naples (WGUF
98.9 FM!) for a signing Thursday evening June 15th, at 7:00 p.m. at
the Barnes & Noble at Waterside Shops! Then I think I'll just hang
around Naples for a while ... perhaps get that wave runner out into the
Gulf on Saturday. Golf. Write. Who knows? |
BILBRAY WINS BY THIN MARGIN ... NOT GOOD FOR
REPUBLICANS??
This was the contest the media (for what that's worth) was
telling us was going to be a gauge of the mood of the voters going into the
November mid-term elections. Former GOP Congressman Brian Bilbray and
Democrat Francine Busby were running in a
special election in Southern
California for the seat of disgraced Republican Congressman Randy "Duke"
Cunningham ... who watched this whole thing from jail.
The win here was so narrow I think the case can be made
that Busby lost the election when she tipped her hand by telling a crowd of
Latinos that "you don't need papers to vote" at an election rally a few days
ago.
There were some oddities, if you will, about this
election. First, Billbray only gets to serve for six months ... unless,
that is, he wins the general election in November. And just who is he
going to face then? Why, Francine Busby, of course! Maybe this time
she'll refrain from encouraging illegals to vote and participate in our election
process. Billbray has another problem, this one with Republican voters.
He does not believe in a government that is strong enough to use deadly force to
compel a woman to have a baby she does not want to have. In other words,
he believes in choice. Aborto-centrist voters won't forgive this heresy.
Illegal immigration may also have been a central issue.
Busby (naturally) supports the Senate's amnesty bill. Billbray does not.
So ... its off to the general election in November!
In the meantime, this victory was so close in a heavily Republican district that
both sides will be claiming a win.
THE
KELO DECISION'S FIRST VICTIM
It finally happened. The
namesake of the landmark
Kelo vs. New London, Connecticut eminent domain
decision finally got thrown out of her house. Since last year, five of the
families from the original lawsuit have cut a deal with the city and agreed to
give up their homes and leave. That left only two, of which Susette Kelo was
one.
The New London,
Connecticut City Council voted on Monday to
give them the boot. This makes way
for a large private development that will include a shiny new convention center,
hotel and condominiums. The city can now do this because of the Supreme Court
decision, which ruled in their favor. Local governments can now seize your
property at will. For Susette Kelo, this is the end of private property
rights. Ain't America great?
Yet, do we read much about
the Kelo decision in the mainstream media? Certainly not enough. We have
headlines about gay marriage and abortion instead. Just ask yourself....what
has more potential impact on your life: a Constitutional amendment banning gay
marriage that will never be passed, or the ability of your local government to
take your property, hand it over to a private developer with good political
connections, and put you on the street? Remember: it doesn't matter how long
your house has been there. This neighborhood in Connecticut was just fine...it
was not blighted. But along comes a developer promising the city more tax
revenue...and well, there goes the neighborhood.
No wonder politicians love
government schools. Where do you think the dumb masses come from that can be so
easily led and manipulated?
CYNTHIA MCKINNEY OFF THE HOOK?
Media reports are now
circulating that prosecutors are in quiet discussions with the office of Georgia
Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney to offer her
some sort of plea agreement. This
way, as the rumors go, she would avoid any jail time for hitting a Capitol
Police officer. Just what sort of punishment could she expect? Who
knows...probably a fine and probation. Or community service. But you can bet
there would be no jail time.
That's too bad that
they're offering her special treatment and coddling her. Anyone else...they
would be sent up the river. Had it been a white male that slugged the cop,
would they be offering a plea deal to him? Nope. It is only because
prosecutors fear McKinney's cries of racism that they're trying to cut a deal.
And you also have to ask
yourself...what would have happened if John Q. Public had done this? Try that
the next time you're pulled over by a cop. Just take a swing at one and see
where you wind up. I can guarantee you it will be the inside of a jail
cell...that is after you're wrestled to the ground and handcuffed....probably
after having experienced the business end of a Taser.
Even after all this is
settled, will Cynthia McKinney be re-elected this fall? No doubt. You
think she's bad .. you ought to see the people who elected her.
Oh, and if you like Cynthia's glamour shot, you can
see more on
her house.gov site.
CAVING IN TO IRAN
Sadly, the Bush
Administration has apparently decided to cave in to Iran on the nuclear weapons
issue. First we told them in no uncertain terms that they had to get rid of
their nuclear program. When they didn't do that, we told them that we would
reward them with direct negotiations if they stopped enriching uranium. Now
that they haven't done that, we have decided to make the following deal:
we will
supply Iran with some nuclear technology, but only if they stop enriching
uranium.
What's next? Millions of
dollars to make them stop? These "incentives," which are nothing more than a
ransom....or paying blackmail, whatever you want to call it, are part of a plan
developed by the United States, the Euro-Weenies, Russia and China. But it gets
better! We're throwing in the reactors and the nuclear fuel....but Europe is
kicking in an Airbus jet if Iran stops enriching uranium. What a deal.
So what's wrong with all
this? The problem is that anytime you pay blackmail, the price always goes up.
Iran, now that it realizes we're willing to pay them off, will simply ask for
more and more and more. And as North Korea taught us, they'll continue
enriching uranium anyway. Come on now, does the Bush Administration really
think Iran is going to stick to any agreement?
And what about Iran's
state support of terrorism? Exactly what is the point of negotiating with a
country that supports Al-Qaeda? And just what is China kicking in on the deal?
Perhaps the Mullahs in Iran could use some cheap electronics.
REDNECK SCRAP BOOK
A redneck might be in charge of

YOUR INCREDIBLE DAILY DOSE OF
READING ASSIGNMENTS.
If your child isn't busy at some summer school trying to
compensate for the hideous year of government-led education he or she has just
suffered through, perhaps they will have some time to read a book!
Here's a suggestion from Thomas Sowell.
Let's see ... we have just over six months left in 2006.
Americans are just getting over the glow of another season of American Idol, and
Entertainment Tonight continues to lead all broadcast newscasts in viewership.
In the meantime,
CBS
News is reporting that U.S. officials think we may well be hit with another
Muslim terrorist attach by the end of the year. Who cares! We
want to see pictures of Brad and Angelina's baby!
Now we have a
third grade teacher at a private religious school in Maryland who has been
accused with aiding a terrorist group! He traveled to Pakistan shortly
after 9/11 and trained with a terrorist organization. Then, when one of
the leaders of that organization traveled to the U.S., He served a his
chauffeur. And just what type of religious school do you think this man
taught in? Why, a Muslim school, of course? Certainly you weren't
thinking Baptist, were you?
Were civilians deliberately killed at Haditha?
Perhaps so. Should the Marines who did this be punished? Absolutely.
But ... should Bush-haters use this to undermine our efforts in Iraq ... or,
better put, to play into the enemy's hands? Of course not ... but they'll
do it anyway.
It's not about success in Iraq. It's about trashing Bush.
Bill Frist wants the repeal of the death tax to be on the Republican agenda
this fall. Hey ... Mr. Senate Majority Leader, have you read the FairTax
bill? That should do it!
Have you ever
read The Note from ABC News? Maybe I shouldn't even be giving you this
link.
Michelle Malkin reports that Canada is already trying to pretend the terrorists
it took down over the weekend aren't Muslims. Despite the fact they all have
Islamic names, our friends to the North are pushing the idea that these
terrorists had other motives. Right.
A new poll shows what
we've known for years: President Bush is out of touch when it comes to the issue
of illegal immigration.
Most Americans want less immigration and more border security.
Former New York Mayor Ed
Koch, a Democrat that has long supported the War On Terror,
weighs in on what he thinks are the real problems in Iraq.
Al Gore is getting a lot
of publicity for his global warming film. But
Robert Tracinski looks at the science behind his claims
and finds they don't exactly hold up under scrutiny.
The New Orleans Police Chief is backing off his statement
that in the next natural disaster, he is going to go around confiscating private
firearms. His political trial balloon being shot down, the chief has begun
doing the political backstroke.
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is hitting back at critics of the search
warrant of William
Jefferson's office. He says there was evidence of a crime and besides the
executive branch has searched the legislative branch before.
The fact that Canada was
the victim of a terror plot shows that the Islamic terrorists are not out for
just the United States.
Jack Kelly says it also shows that Canada's tolerance of Islamic extremism is no
deterrent to terrorism.
Summer is here...which
means one thing: summer reading lists from schools and colleges.
Thomas Sowell has a suggestion to counter the leftist books sure to be
recommended from government schools.
Dr. Walter E. Williams has been reading John Stossel's new book
about media lies people accept. Today he cites the example of the media untruth
that people are starving in the world because of overpopulation.
Speaking of John Stossel, in today's column he looks at the Americans With
Disabilities Act. The
ADA, despite its good intentions, has now made hiring employees a pain because
of the things you can and can't do.
