A FANTASTIC FATHER'S DAY GIFT!
Here's a little paragraph that appeared in a column in
today's Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
"When a Fair
Tax rally draws 4,500 people, some of whom drive hundreds of miles, as the
one did Wednesday night, you gotta take the movement seriously. And that's
those who got in the door. Another 2,000 were turned away. U.S. Rep. John
Linder (R-Ga.) and Neal Boortz have started something."
Father's Day is approaching. A few weeks ago I
signed 1000 copies of The FairTax Book for Father's Day gifts.
Here's a
link for you to order your's now!
ROYAL'S A DADDY!
Annette and Royal Marshall are the proud parents of a sweet baby girl.
Amira Wesley Marshall was born Sunday morning in Atlanta. Right off the
bat Amira showed up her father, being quite early! About 21 days early.
She weighs about four and one-half pounds and will be going home today!
Royal tells us that Amira is Hebrew word for Princess ...and that's just what
this little girl is! If Laura is in today I'll get a picture posted here ASAP!
MEMORIAL DAY AND IRAQ COVERAGE
Yesterday was Memorial Day, a day we are supposed to honor
all of the men and women who gave their lives to this country and to the cause
of freedom while serving in the uniforms of our armed services. I spent
quite a lot of time watching the coverage on all of the broadcast and cable
channels ... and this coverage seemed to have one constant theme. One way
to honor the lives of these people would have been to show some of what they
have accomplished in Afghanistan and in Iraq. Instead our media
concentrated wholly on death and mayhem. Explosions, car bombs, suicide
bombers, attacks on our military, the deaths and injuries sustained by reporters
... just a constant drumbeat of negativism from the Middle East. The
charges that U.S. Marines killed civilians in Iraq was featured prominently.
Congressman Jack Murtha, who has called our Marines cold-blooded killers, was
featured as well. Not once did I see any coverage of the positive aspects
of these men and women's service in the war on terror and the effort to bring
freedom and a representative, freely elected government to both Iraq and
Afghanistan.
Without any positive representation of what is happening
in Iraq, the people of this country are simply going to stop supporting this war
against the Islamic jihad. Americans are going to once again adopting the
Bill Clinton approach, one that says that terrorism is a law enforcement problem
that needs to be handled by the police and our courts. We saw how well
Clinton's approach worked on 9/11. It seems we have a short memory.
We're too busy living the good life, watching a doped-up Barry Bonds, an
emotionally crippled Paris Hilton, and the parade of emotional wrecks out of
Hollywood. The Islamic attack on America was almost five years ago.
No credit is given to the efforts of our president and our armed forces to
prevent a recurrence. It's time for bread and circuses again, and Memorial
Day was just a Monday off.
ANTI-WAR CROWD GETS THEIR CAUSE
The anti-war left and the
mainstream media is about to get their time in the sun when it comes to pushing
their Bush-bashing agenda. According to news reports, members of Congress are
being told to brace themselves for the fallout from the Haditha 'massacre.'
Just what is this supposed 'massacre?'
Military investigations
are ongoing, but supposedly a small number of Marines went on a rampage after
one of their own was killed by an IED. Depending on where you get your
information, there were either 15 or 24 innocent Iraqis killed...some of them
women and children. If what is being described is what happened, it's a tragedy
and some Marines ought to be prosecuted and punished.
John Murtha, the terrorist
appeasing Congressman from Pennsylvania, was on one of the Sunday shows saying
this is worse than Abu Ghraib. Despicable. There is Murtha...a former Marine,
no less...going on a public broadcast on Memorial Day weekend to bash the
military. Is there a time to condemn what these Marines may have done in
Haditha? Of course there is, but do we have to pick the Memorial Day
weekend? We're supposed to be honoring the sacrifice of our fallen
soldiers...and here's Murtha focusing only on the negative.
So .. what's the point of
focusing on the negative here? Why all the talk of a so-called massacre
and no talk of honoring those who gave their lives? The agenda, folks.
It's all about the agenda. The Democrats and the media want to demonize
Bush, the war on terror, the war in Iraq, the deposing of Saddam Hussein, and
our military in general. What is dishonoring dead soldiers if it could
lead to a Democratic victory in November?
Oh, and maybe we
should just forget about hearing the Marines' side of the story. They'll be
tried and convicted in the media long before they ever face a fair trial.
AL GORE PREDICTS END OF CIVILIZATION
Former Vice President and
the failed presidential candidate (still stings, doesn't it Al?) who couldn't
even carry his home state is globetrotting all over the world pimping his new
movie about global warming. It's called "An Inconvenient Truth" and is based on
Gore's rantings about the environment. Anyway, at a speech the other day in the
UK, Gore made his most dire prediction to date: he called global warming a
"danger which could bring the end of civilization."
That's right, Al Gore has predicted the end of the world. Global warming is now
such a pressing issue that if we don't do something soon, we're all going to
die. Maybe we'll die in hurricanes! Gore says that these nasty hurricanes
of late are all the fault of global warming. Yeah ... they're all due to
the one degree rise in the temperature of the Atlantic Ocean waters off the
Western coast of Africa. Now never mind that this one degree rise could,
according to scientists, only account for a 10% increase in a hurricane's winds.
That would take a 120 mph wind and raise it to 132 mph. Oh yeah, we're all
gonna die! And never mind that the technology used to measure those waters
off the African coast was so antiquated that the data itself is in question.
We just must take it as an article of faith that all that is bad with the
weather anywhere in the world is due to global warming. Al Gore says so.
Now does Al Gore really
want an "inconvenient truth?' How about this one, Al. The sun is
hotter! That's right, the sun has been burning brighter and hotter for the
last few decades. Now you don't suppose that could have anything to do
with the warming of the Earth's atmosphere do you, Al baby?
HARRY REID'S FREE BOXING TICKETS
Between the Randy
Cunningham bribery scandal and this Jack Abramoff business...Republicans have
been having quite a bit of ethics trouble lately. Democrats have jumped on the
bandwagon, saying the GOP is promoting "a culture of corruption." Senate
Minority Leader Harry Reid even gave a speech in front of a banner that said
"Honest Leadership, Open Government."
However...Harry Reid has a
problem, and this time it's been caught on tape. You see, Harry Reid was pushing
for legislation to create a federal boxing commission to oversee the sport. But
somebody noticed that Harry Reid was sitting right up front by the ring for
three big boxing matches in Vegas between 2003 and 2005. He accepted the tickets
for free, and they were worth some bucks...$1,400 in one case. Much more
to a scalper.
So what would have
happened if Bill Frist, a Republican had been sitting at that boxing match and
was at the same time pushing legislation to regulate the sport? We would never
hear the end of it. And yet Reid will eventually slide on this...just like he
slid on his campaign contributions tied to Jack Abramoff.
Along with the William
Jefferson raid, it looks like Democrats have an ethics problem to. The bottom
line: when it comes to corruption, the only difference between the parties is
how the media covers it.
THE TROUBLE WITH BASEBALL
So, Barry Bonds has now surpassed the homerun record of
Babe Ruth. I wonder how many of Bond's homeruns were hit while he was
juiced on steroids and other performance enhancing drugs? In fact, I
wonder why he's even allowed in a uniform and on a field in the first place.
Barry Bonds is not a symbol of hitting prowess, he is a symbol of Major League
Baseball's unwillingness to control the drug use of its players. Asterisk
anyone?
READING ASSIGNMENTS
Somebody is finally coming
right out and saying it: the problem with New Orleans really isn't Hurricane
Katrina. It's decades of total incompetence on the part of those in charge.
Eugene Robinson from the Washington Post breaks it down.
Republicans are in a great
position leading into the 2006 election, but only if they capitalize.
John McIntyre says the GOP should grab onto the illegal immigration issue and
run with it this fall.
Cal Thomas has a different perspective.
He says the war currently going on in the Republican party over illegal
immigration is actually a war between the conservative wing of the part and the
more liberal side.
Here's a great column that appeared in USA Today by someone named Heather
MacDonald. It's
short, but to the point. Her message: the time is fast approaching when the
United States will be entirely comprised of victim groups.
Conservatives now dominate
the Congress, the Executive Branch, and increasingly the Judiciary, but there is
one area where the left still has a stranglehold: academia.
Cathy Young says liberals still dominate colleges...and are doing their best to
stamp out dissent.
Robert Novak puts it
plainly: the
Democrats' worst nightmare in this election year can be summed up in two
words...Black Republicans.
If the left loses that dependable voting block, they're in trouble.
The ACLU has started a new
nationwide campaign...against the supposed wiretapping of all Americans'
telephones.
The only problem says Jeff Jacoby, is they have their facts wrong.
Democrats are missing one
thing for their supposed big push this fall to take over the Congress: an actual
clear message.
And simplifying their message won't work either, reports Dustin Hawkins.
Former Enron executives
Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling are about to start folding laundry in the joint...and
Debra Saunders says they got what they deserved.
She just can't believe they actually thought they could beat the rap.
John McCain will soon
announce that he is running for president.
But George Will is actually waiting for another announcement:
that John McCain will forgo the public financing of his campaign...something he
used to be for, but can't expect to accept and win.
