FAIRTAX RALLY TONIGHT

Well ..  I'm the type of guy who always worries hours before a party that nobody is going to show up.  So now we're hours before the FairTax rally tonight at the Gwinnett Convention Center and I'm wondering if people really will get out there in that traffic on the very night of the final episode of American Idol to lend their voices to the cause of tax reform.

In preparation for tonight's rally I've been reading more articles about the FairTax, some critiques, some praise.  I am once again struck by the fact that anyone who sets out to condemn the FairTax must first change its terms --- that or just outright lie.

Politicians have seen the FairTax.  Some recognize it as a way to grow our economy, provide jobs, and bring American businesses and dollars back home.  Others see it as a sure path to the loss of political power.  If you listen close enough you can hear many in Washington telling you to forget this FairTax idea, that there is just no way they're going to transfer this much power from Capitol Hill to you.  They need to hear you telling tem that they risk losing all of their power if they don't pay attention to what the people are saying and asking for.  Tonight we get a chance to speak.  Another step.  As my friend Robert Schuller says, "Inch by inch, anything's a cinch"

ONE-TRICK PONIES

Sean Hannity had an amazing segment on Hannity & Colmes earlier this week.  Just incredible TV.  His guest was some former Boston College adjunct professor named Steve Almond.  Almond actually resigned from the faculty of Boston College because Condoleezza Rice was invited to give a commencement speech.  In his letter to the school's president Almond wrote "Simply put, Rice is a liar."  That brings us to his appearance on Hannity & Colmes.

Under questioning from Hannity Almond cited as one of Rice's lies her claim that Saddam Hussein was pursuing nuclear weapons.  Yup --- Almond actually classifies this as a lie.  The world knows it's true.  Components of the nuclear program were found buried in the back yards of Saddam's nuclear researchers.  There's more evidence than a rational person would ever require, but Almond cites it as a lie.  Hannity then asked Almond repeatedly whether or not he voted for John Kerry.  Almond refused to answer.  He just kept responding by saying that public officials shouldn't lie.  Then Hannity reads a quote to Almond where John Kerry said that Saddam was pursuing nuclear weapons.  Almond, of course, has no response.  He's caught.  Nailed.  Shown to be the academic fool that he is.

Boston College is now better off for having had Condoleezza Rice as a speaker, and for the resignation of Steve Almond.

THIS "THEY LIED" BIT

Do you think the Bush administration deliberately misled the public about whether Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction?
Yes
No
Don't know
Steve Almond isn't alone.  You hear this "lie" bit day after day from critics of the Bush Administration.  Just as the left has applied a new definition to words such as "democracy" and "racism."  So the left seems to have come up with a definition of the word "lie."

Under the old definitions in order to tell a lie you had to know that the information you were presenting was false at the time you made the statement.  Under the new leftist definition all that is necessary is for the information to be discovered to be false after the fact.   Under the old definition if you said "My wife is bring six goosegogs home from the grocery store today." and your wife arrives home with only four goosegogs, you clearly are not a liar.  You were just wrong.  Under the new leftist definition that statement about the number of goosegogs your wife is going to bring home makes you a liar.  Pretty petty stuff.

The media, of course, lets them get away with it.

DITZY TWITS NOT DOING SO WELL

I come to you with bad news today.  The Ditzy Twits have a new album out, and it's not doing all that well.  The Twits' popularity dived when Twit Natalie Maines went to a foreign country to announce to the audience how ashamed she was to be from the same state as President Bush.  Now ... with the release of this album .. Maines is yakking it up again.  Now she says that President Bush "deserves no respect whatsoever."

Well .. the bad news.  Their album is tanking.  The two singles released from the album are not doing well.  One song, "Not ready to make nice" peaked at No. 36.  The other single is moving down the charts from its high of 48.

Sad.  So sad.

VOTE IN SENATE ON IMMIGRATION BILL

Simply put.  Amnesty.  Amnesty with rewards.  This isn't an immigration bill, this is a bill to legitimize an invasion.

Here are some points in the Senate bill.  Now you read these and tell me if you think this is immigration "reform."

  1. Citizenship rights for invaders already here two years or longer.
  2. Amnesty for employers who have hired illegals.
  3. Allow illegal aliens to collect Social Security
  4. Allow 2 million new "immigrants" into the country every year.
  5. 370 miles of fencing.  The border is much longer.

In other words ... nothing.  Not a damn thing.  No punishment whatsoever to those who have violated the law.  Give them a place in line ahead of those who have played by the rules.

This just has to be a joke.  Please tell me they aren't serious.

SUPERSIZE ME

Have you ever seen this documentary?  I watched part of that movie again last night.  It's a fun piece on, as the website describes it, "...the legal, financial and physical costs of America's hunger for fast food."  While Morgan Spurlock was filming this movie he spent 30 days eating only at McDonalds.  He gained weight and experienced health problems.  You can't watch this documentary without becoming frightened about what we're doing to our children with the fast food culture.  Just look at all those fat little toads walking around schools and shopping malls ... there's our fast food culture for you.  But, when you really think about it, why wouldn't the same parents who turn their children over to the government to be educated turn those very same children over to Ronald McDonald to be nourished?

MASSACHUSETTS MAY GET THIS ONE RIGHT

This falls under the "even a blind pig finds an acorn" rule, but the Commonwealth of Massachusetts may be on the verge of raising the minimum driving age to 17 1/2 years.  Good for them!  So many other states don't have the guts to make this necessary  move.  We'll keep an eye on this one for you.

EL PRESIDENTE SAYS WALLS WON'T WORK

Mexican President Vicente Fox is touring the United States this week on a four-day, three-state tour.  He made a speech yesterday in which he said Mexico wants to be part of the solution on immigration.  That's nice to hear. And just what is his idea of a solution?  Well, for starters, it isn't building a better border fence.  He says that isn't the answer.  I'll just bet.  Anything that prevents his subjects from migrating to the U.S. just can't be part of the answer.

Said the Honorable Mr. Fox: "We don't set up walls, and that's not the way you're going to fix this situation.  It's not with fences that we are going to solve this problem."  But I thought Mexico wanted to be part of the solution?  If so, we're all ears.  What is his solution?  You know what his solution is....it's 100% amnesty for all of the illegals here, a new guest worker program...and a wide open border. That would be all well and good, but you see...that's not how it works for Americans that go to Mexico.

They want it both ways down there. On the one hand, we're supposed to let millions of broke Mexicans stream into our country unabated....but when it comes to Americans going to Mexico...well, that's tightly regulated. Perhaps we should offer El Presidente the same deal for his citizens that ours get in his country.  Same rules .. both sides.  Have you ever tried to wire money to America from Mexico?  You had better have some picture ID handy, and you had better prove that you are in Mexico legally and that the money you're trying to wire was earned legally.

He also has a lot of nerve coming out here telling us what not to do.  Does he not feel the least bit embarrassed that millions of his own countrymen want to flee his country?  And that they're willing to risk life and limb...sneaking across the border to do it?

That must be some country down there.  Their president is going around the world telling people to go easy on those who are trying to escape it.  Talk about pathetic.

JUSTICE DEPARTMENT STRIKES A NERVE

The FBI is in the soup with the House of Representatives these days.  Nobody...Republicans or Democrats...is happy about the raid on William Jefferson, Democrat of Louisiana's office over the weekend.  Members of Congress, including the Speaker, are absolutely terrified that this could become a regular habit of federal law enforcement. Oh, the humanity!  Isn't is just outrageous that our elected officials should be subject to the same laws that we all live under?

They claim that it's unconstitutional.  Funny...nothing in the Constitution about searching a corrupt public official's office. It protects against unlawful search and seizure...but the feds had a warrant.  Separation of powers?  Eh..that's a stretch.  A crime was committed...what were they supposed to do, look the other way?  Right at the front of yesterday's whining was House Majority Leader John Boehner, who said that "the congress will clearly speak to this issue of the justice department's invasion of the legislative branch. In what form I don't know.  I've got to believe at the end of the day it's going to end up across the street, at the Supreme Court.  I don't see anything short of that."  Aww...poor baby.

Are they actually shaking in their boots just because a corrupt Congressman got popped hiding $90,000 in his freezer?  Maybe they're just more afraid of living under the same laws their constituents have to live under.  By the way...evidently the bribe/kickback/payoff was $100,000.  The other ten grand must be under the floorboards or something.

No wonder the approval rating of Congress is so low. This is probably just the tip of the corruption iceberg.

IRAN WANTS TO TALK

Things continued to get more and more interesting with our crazy friends the Iranians.  Just a few months ago, they were talking big...talking about how they were going to wipe Israel off the map and about how we were the Great Satan.  Now they've changed their tune.

In just the past few weeks, the president of Iran...Mr. Unpronounceable...has sent an 18-page letter directly to President Bush.  Said letter apparently contained quite a bit of psychobabble and nonsense, and was ignored.  But Iran isn't giving up.  They've decided they want direct talks with the United States.

And why is this?  Simple...they're afraid of the Bush Administration.  They saw what happened to the Taliban and what happened to Saddam Hussein.  They want to pull a Libya.  They're just looking for a way to save face.  They know there is somebody in the Oval Office that wouldn't hesitate for a second to bomb them back to the stone age.  Actually, they already live in the stone age.  We'll say bomb them back to the prehistoric age...you know, cave man times.

So should we talk to them?  Maybe....but the terms remain the same.  Hand over your nukes or take your chances. In the end, these Islamic dictators talk big...but are really just an empty turban.  Interesting times lie ahead on this one.

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

Aren't they cute all dressed up for the prom?  More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Neal's guest today, John Stossel, discussing his new book Myths, Lies, and Downright Stupidity : Get Out the Shovel--Why Everything You Know is Wrong

We've had a little back and forth now between Israel and Iran....Bush says we'll protect our friend Israel.  Now this report says Iran thinks Israel will strike in a year.  Things are heating up!

The ridiculous legislation continues in the House and Senate over illegal immigration.  It's something new every day.  One plan calls for 12 million illegals to stay and work toward citizenship.  Another plan calls for all temporary worker applicants to leave the country.  Don't like that legislation, wait five minutes.

Here's an update on the alleged rape at Duke University.  Apparently the accuser gave conflicting stories about what happened....but the DA charged 3 guys anyway.

The United States has tried this amnesty business before.....giving illegal aliens a path to citizenship.  Ed Meese weighs in with a history lesson from 20 years ago...about what happened then and says it's just like it is now.

A guy decides to buy a bunch of generators and head to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina to help people.  But he winds up in jail, because he was charging twice what they were worth...so-called price gouging.  John Stossel has a full report.

Every once in awhile, a supposed soldier comes out against the war...and the left rejoices.  But Michelle Malkin talks about another so-called soldier...who turns out to be a fraud.

What's the best way to control illegal immigration?  Jonah Goldberg has the right idea.  He says we should, for starters, you know...build a wall. Imagine that!

Believe it or not, there are a few sane Democrats in this world....ones who realize that all this talk about impeaching George Bush will get them absolutely nowhere. Former Congressman Martin Frost says Democrats need to start acting like winners.

Nothing ticks Dr. Walter E. Williams off more than when the government tries to step in and save people from themselves.  His latest target: the 'Click It or Ticket' seat belt campaign.

We've heard over and over again that for real reform to take place, we have to control the border and do something about the illegals already here...at the same time.  Thomas Sowell wants to know why we have to do both at once.

An Alabama woman got back at her cheating husband, by hitting him with a can of Raid bug spray.  Ouch.

Toe licker on the loose in Tulsa.

Couple caught stealing marital aids when they made another visit to the store and were recognized.
