CYNTHIA MCKINNEY JUST BEING CYNTHIA MCKINNEY
I guess everyone's heard the story by now. When I
get to the studios I'm sure that Web Guy will tell me we've had hundreds of
emails on the subject. It seems that Georgia's embarrassment,
Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, has slugged, or slapped, or punched, or hit ...
whatever ... a Capitol Hill police officer. Here is the way it was
reported to have happened. Cynthia is entering one of the House office
buildings. It wasn't the building in which her office is located.
She was not wearing the lapel pin that identifies her as a member of congress.
She exercises her privilege of walking around the metal detectors. The
police officer doesn't recognize her and goes after her. That's his job.
When he (chose one) (a) place his hand on her shoulder; or (b) grabbed her arm,
she turned around and (a) hit, (b) punched (c) slapped him in his (a) face (b)
chest with (a) her open hand (b) her fist (c) her cell phone.
How's that for thoroughness?
The Capitol Cop says he's going to press charges.
There are reports that McKinney will be arrested when the congress adjourns. My
guess? He won't press charges, and there will be no arrest.
OK ... Let's go through this step by step.
Should members of congress be allowed to bypass security
measures? Of course not! But, remember, they are members of congress
and they just love to set up special perks and privileges for themselves.
Take comfort in the fact that these politicians still have to go through airport
security like the rest of us unwashed Americans.
Should McKinney have been wearing the lapel pin that
identifies her as a Member of Congress? No. There is no requirement
that they wear those pins, and if it were me I wouldn't wear them either.
I know other congressmen who make a practice of never wearing that pin.
Sometimes it just doesn't pay to advertise who you are.
Should the Capital Cop have recognized Cynthia?
Well, there are 435 members of the House and another 100 Senators. Many of
them, of course, are high profile. Many others don't occupy the limelight
and are hard to recognize. Plus, you have the added problem of McKinney
having just changed her hairstyle. Her signature hairstyle. Having
said this, though, I think that the Capitol Cop should have recognized McKinney,
if for no other reason than the fact that she is a problem.
There have been
incidents before this one that should cause every single person working in law
enforcement anywhere near Washington to know this woman on sight. McKinney is a
hot head, and if you want your life to go smoothly you don't screw with her.
Should McKinney have hit the cop? No. No way.
She should have just turned around and said "Excuse me, I'm Cynthia McKinney
from Georgia, a member of the House of Representatives." Upon hearing the
name the cop would have turned deathly pale and would have immediately summoned
a sedan chair to take the Queen anywhere she wanted to go. There is
absolutely no excuse whatsoever for her losing her temper and striking that
officer. She knew exactly what she was doing, and she knew it was wrong
when she did it. She lost her temper, she should apologize for it, and
from that point on it should be between McKinney and the pathetic people who put
her in office.
We have one other issue here. Race. As soon as I saw
the headline on the Drudge Report last night I knew, without any shadow of a
doubt, that Cynthia McKinney was going to make a racial issue out of this.
Sure enough, it didn't take long. Some Internet reports last night said that
McKinney was claiming that she had been "harassed" by white capitol hill police
officers. She is quoted as saying "Do I have to contact the police
every time I change my hairstyle? How do we account for the fact that when I
wore my braids every day for 11 years, I still faced this problem, primarily
from certain white police officers." There is no reference to white police
officers on her official website. Perhaps cooler heads prevailed by the
time her "official" statement was issued. We do have history to rely on
here. Race is pretty much all that Cynthia McKinney has had going for her
for years. Race is why she is in the House of Representatives. Race
is always at the center of McKinney's life. Several years ago there was a
similar case at the White House. McKinney had to identify herself to the
Secret Police. Then, as now, McKinney made a racial issue out of it,
saying that she is sick and tired of having to constantly have her identity
validated by white people.
McKinney needs to thank the Capitol Hill Police for doing
their job and apologize for being an arrogant hot head. And that should be
the end of it.
ANOTHER HIGH FOR NASDAQ?
Yup. Looks like our economy is still ripping along.
NASDAQ hit a five-year high yesterday. Tech stocks led a rally. In
addition, the Japanese NIKKEI index toped 17,000 for the first time in over five
years. Our economy is sound and growing ... but you would never know it
listening to the whining Democrats. The very fact that I have brought you
this news here is proof enough that I am nothing but a hate-monger.
TED
TURNER STILL BASHING BUSH
CNN founder
Ted Turner is
making the rounds on the political speech circuit. Now no longer a part of the
network he founded after being fired from Time-Warner, Ted's trying to make a
name for himself by complaining about the cable news business and the Bush
administration. You see, since Ted's no longer running the show, everything is
terrible. Poor Ted.
CNN used to be the top dog
in the cable news business. Nobody even came close. They had no competition.
Then along came MSNBC...still no real competition. But then Fox News jumped
in...and CNN hasn't been the same since. CNN covered the stories they thought
were important...international news and such. Fox News took over the ratings a
few years ago and has been beating CNN like a drum. Even America's favorite
love-terrapin, Larry King, frequently lags behind Fox in the ratings.
But then Ted turned to the
subject of his real passion: his ongoing hatred of the Bush administration.
Said the former Mr. Fonda: "We can't afford the war in Iraq. This is a big
waste of time. I wish we would say, 'We won and we are going home.' We
shouldn't be there. Bombing isn't a way of changing people's minds. You do that
with education. We had a president of the United States who had been out of the
country but once before he was elected. And this guy has his finger on the
nuclear trigger, too - reformed alcoholic, nothing wrong with that." Nice cheap
shot there.
And to think Ted Turner
was once a conservative. Now he professes to be a socialist. I guess all
of those hideous Captain Planet cartoons had an affect on him.
BIG
NEWS ON NSA WIRETAPPING
The Bush White House has
gotten a lot of heat since the New York Times disclosed that it was authorizing
wiretaps on suspected Al-Qaeda terrorists in this country. Democrats have
called for his censure or impeachment over the issue. There is a procedure in
place to get a warrant for such surveillance...it's called the FISA court. That
stands for the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, so named after a 1978
piece of legislation setting up the process. But the FISA process takes time,
something that frequently runs short when you're pursuing an Islamic terrorist
who is using different telephones to plot attacks.
So, citing his
Constitutional authority to protect the nation, George W. Bush authorizes the
wiretaps by executive order. This doesn't make a lot of people comfortable who
feel like he should have to go to a judge and get a warrant. Well, there's some
interesting news regarding that question. One of the judges that co-authored
the 1978 law appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee and said the
following: "If a court refuses a FISA application and there is not sufficient
time for the president to go to the court of review,
the president can under
executive order act unilaterally, which he is doing now." Score one for the
administration.
Here's another win for
Bush. Just this week five former FISA judges said that Bush's actions were
entirely appropriate and legal. Let's see if that ends up on the front
pages and the nightly news.
By the way...the AP and
the New York Times covered the same hearing, but failed to mention the judge's
words that were favorable to the Bush White House. More bias from a mainstream
media that has no shame.

He says we're the only developed nation that shares a 2,000 mile border with a
