SO ... LET ME SEE IF I'VE GOT THIS STRAIGHT. THE LAW MEANS NOTHING, RIGHT?
"We didn't cross the border, the border crossed us" | Did you see the demonstrations over the weekend? Specifically, did you see that demonstration in Los Angeles? Police estimate that as many as 500,000 "immigration advocates" marched in downtown LA. Denver - 50,000. Phoenix, 20,000. Milwaukee, 10,000. Charlotte, 5,000 to 7,000. Why were they marching? They were protesting legislation that has already passed the U.S. House of Representatives that would make illegal immigration a felony rather than a mere civil crime. HOLD ON! Wait a minute! Do you mean to tell me that here we are, over four years past the 9/11 attacks, and illegally entering this country is still not a felony? There are consensual sex acts that can bring harsher punishment than entering and then staying in the United States illegally. I'm not sure, but I'm thinking that if you find an illegal alien in Alabama with a dildo, he'll be held in jail because of the sex toy, not because he's here illegally. OK ... back to the demonstrations. Check out one of these quotes. It's from some thug rapper named Jorge Ruiz: "We construct your schools. We cook your food. We are the motor of this nation, but people don't see us. Blacks and whites, they had their revolution. They had their Martin Luther King. Now it is time for us." There are two ways to emigrate to the United States: legally and illegally. The way that 11 million people have chosen to enter this country is to sneak across the border. They have chosen to break our laws and are criminals. So now they're protesting. So why isn't anything being done about it? There were probably thousands of illegals at these protests...why not go around and ask people for their green cards then? It would be like shooting fish in a barrel...a large concentration of illegal aliens, all waiting to be arrested and deported. Answer: They're not going to be deported. Not now, not ever. As we said, the estimates of illegal aliens in this country runs from 11 to 12 million. Some think the number is higher. Both political parties are caught in the middle here. On the one hand you have the financial and political support of the businesses that benefit from the labor supplied by these illegals, plus the potential of a huge voter base should they ever become citizens. On the other hand you have the growing anger of an electorate that is increasing demanding that something be done about this invasion across the U.S.-Mexico border. The result? Nothing gets done, and thousands of illegals sneak, not so sneakily, across the border into this country every month. Here's a political reality for you. You may not like it, but a little reality check might be good for you early on a Monday morning.. The 11 or 12 million illegals in this country aren't going anywhere. They're staying right here. You can change their continued presence here from a misdemeanor to a felony if you like .. but stay they will. If you think that the United Nations Human Rights Commission screams when we force-feed a Camp Gitmo prisoner who is trying to kill himself through starvation --- calling it torture; then you just stand back and listen to the howling cacophony that, as surely as night follows day and Bill Clinton follows flat-bellies, will erupt with category 5 force when we try to send these criminals back across the Mexican/American border. The UN and the Euro-weenies (who, by the way, face a much more troublesome immigration issue of their own ... Muslims) will start screaming about human rights violations such as they've never screamed before. There is really only one course of action available to us. Defend our borders. Shut them down. Now. It's hard for even the United Nations to demonize a country that is simply defending its borders. Sure ... the invasion has already placed 12 million behind the lines, but here they are and here they'll stay. Our salvation is going to be in assimilating them into American society; a tough role indeed with the proliferation of Spanish language TV, radio and newspapers. And what about immigration law? In a country based on the rule of law this should all be so very simple. They came here illegally. They remain here illegally. They work here illegally. Round them up, send them home. But remember this: There is no underlying concept of the rule of law working here. Certainly not with the illegals who have invaded our country, and, sadly, not with the people in this country who will promote their message. We are dealing with several generations of Americans who have not been taught that we are a government of law, rather that we are are government of people. More specifically, a government of the majority. I've been telling you for decades that teaching this historically-incorrect idea that the United States is a Democracy, a country of majority rule, was going to get us in a spot of trouble someday. Well, look outside. It's someday. Did you see those 500,000 Mexicans marching in Los Angeles yesterday? How many Americans did you see in that counter-demonstration calling for a simple enforcement of our immigration laws? None? Right! So, there's your rule of the mob vs. the rule of law working for you. Five hundred thousand Mexicans in Los Angeles want no enforcement of our immigration laws. Those opposed? Engrossed in March Madness. There's your democracy. WHAT CAN THE REPUBLICANS DO TO KEEP THEIR MAJORITY? In case you still haven't noticed, there's a smell in the air. A smell of Democratic victory in November. Sure, it's seven months away, but the way things look right now we very well may have a Democratic House of Representatives come next January. Democratic control of the Senate isn't out of the question. The Washington and New York press corps smell this possible Democratic victory. The vast majority of them will be voting Democratic, and a Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives is at the top of their wish list. Perhaps the only people who desire a Democratic majority in the House come next January more than the Democrats themselves, would be the DC and New York press corps. So, if you want to see some good news from Iraq on the front pages, it will have to be stupendously good news indeed ... the opening of the Baghdad Disney World might make it above the fold. Democrats are going to keep doing what they've been doing for the past three years, putting Democratic political fortunes ahead of American success in Iraq, and the media is going to continue to provide cover. Let's give credit where it is due here. Democrats and their media friends have done a spectacular job of creating a false reality in the minds of many Americans. Many Americans are now living in a world of make believe. They've been made to believe many things that just ain't so, and to discredit things that are. The Democrats in elected office and in the media made them believe that Saddam Hussein had no weapons of mass destruction. He did. They made the voters believe that there was no connection between Iraq and Al Qaeda. There was. The left-wing media/political machine made the people believe that there was no connection between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. The connection has been shown. The American people, thanks to the constant drumbeat of Democrats in the press and in public office, believe that there was no connection between Iraq and 9/11. There was. Republicans are floundering. They're watching the polls slide while they essentially do nothing. There is not one single bold Republican initiative before the voters that can arouse voter passions. Nothing. Seven months and counting. ARE YOU READY FOR THE SPRING BUNNY?
Easter Spring Bunny & doggie | Well, here we go again. A few months ago it was Holiday Trees and the attack on Christmas. Now it's Spring Bunnies and an assault on Easter.A friend of mine in the broadcast industry tells me that the Meadows Mall in Las Vegas has a set-up at center court where kids can have their picture taken with "The Spring Bunny." Not "The Easter Bunny" mind you, but "The Spring Bunny." The TV news report said they did this so as not to offend non-Christians who don't celebrate Easter. My friend assumes that the eggs given away by "The Spring Bunny" are called "Spring Eggs" and are placed in a "Spring Basket." Well ... Las Vegas isn't the only place this wonderful new "tradition" is being launched. It looks like a mall in my home town of Atlanta is pulling the same asinine stunt. I've been copied on an e-mail from an official at some suburban Atlanta mall. For now I've "XXX"ed out the name of the mall. I've sent an email to this mall official asking if the email was authentic. When I receive verification I'll let you know who these politically correct characters are. Are you prepared to show your disgust at this politically correct horse squeeze with your shopping dollars? JUST HOW SCREWED UP IS SAN FRANCISCO?
There was a rally in San Francisco over the weekend. It wasn't a rally to protest the permanent berthing of decommissioned U.S. Iowa, a battleship that fought for our country in World War II, Vietnam and the Persian Gulf War. It wasn't a rally in support of San Francisco's new law that absolutely bans the private ownership of firearms. It wasn't a rally in support of gay rights, or of the right of San Francisco's homeless population to urinate and defecate on the city sidewalks. Those issues are all pretty much settled. This was a rally of evangelical Christian teenagers. The rally was called the "Battle Cry for a Generation" and was attended by 25,000 teens. The rally was staged to counter a popular culture that the rally organizers say "glamorizes violence and sex." There were religious speakers and Christian rock bands. There was no sex, no violence, no foul language, no destruction of private property. And all of this made one San Francisco Assemblyman, Mark Leno, very, very mad indeed. Leno said that the rally amounted to "a fascist mega-pep rally." Well, Leno is a Democrat (as if I needed to tell you) so there you go with the requisite association of anything deemed to be conservative, like religion, with Adolf Hitler. Leno wasn't through. He also said of these Christian teenagers: "They're loud, they're obnoxious, they're disgusting, and they should get out of San Francisco." Well ... this is one of those points where I really don't need to say any more. GLOBAL WARMING HYSTERIA IGNITED
Here we go with the global warming hysteria. This week's Time magazine cover features a special report on global warming (sorry, not full article, but you'll get the idea)...a favorite cause of the left. It says people should "Be worried...Be Very Worried." All of the usual arguments are made...the polar ice caps are melting, the ozone hole is getting bigger, the global temperature is rising..and so on.
But what you won't find are opposing arguments. What does a hardcore anti-capitalist environmentalist say when you tell them that our temperature records barely go back 100 years? What do they say when you tell that there are credible scientists who aren't even convinced that global warming exists? What do they say when you tell them it was 47 degrees in Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday...a record?
Of course, they say nothing..because it isn't about the environment. The core of the global warming cause is a political movement. It is an anti-American, socialist vision designed to weaken our economy. It has nothing to do with global warming itself. That's just the issue they're hijacking.
Oh..and how many feel-good lefties go on and on about global warming, yet they still get into their gas-guzzling, pollution producing SUVs and drive off?
Global warming? Hey! Maybe so! Do any of you think that it just might have something to do with the fact that the sun is getting HOTTER?
REVENUE HUNGRY GOVERNMENT
All over the U.S., states charge their own tax per gallon on top of the federal gasoline tax. It's usually on the order of 20-25 cents a gallon. This is above and beyond the 18.4 cents a gallon the feds suck out of your wallet for every gallon of gasoline you buy. The taxes are hidden...there is always a sign on the pump that says federal, state and local taxes are included in the per-gallon pump price.
Enter the state of Oregon. As it turns out, some 80 percent of their highway budget comes from their 24 cents a gallon gas tax. Oregon is a very liberal state, so they're promoting the usage of hybrid vehicles to reduce pollution and so forth. There's only one problem with that. Less gasoline consumption means less highway money in the coffers. So what to do?
Believe it or not, they're testing a plan by which a global positioning system unit would be installed on your car...to measure how many miles you've driven. You would then be taxed on how far you drove, instead of how much gasoline you buy. Of course, in the process, the state would know your every move...being able to monitor wherever you went.
Never underestimate the power of the government to pursue new revenues. This just shows they'll stop at nothing to increase the flow to the treasury.

Some in Congress are getting the message on the public's disgust with illegal immigration. Congressman Tom Tancredo says illegal aliens are turning America into a 'Tower of Babel.' This should give the left nightmares. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia says the prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay are not protected by the U.S. Constitution. He also said Europe's reaction to the prisons was hypocritical.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has forgiven the radio talk show host in St. Louis that used a racial slur on the air in reference to her. He's still out of luck...and out of a job.
The Christian man in Afghanistan that converted from Islam will not be executed after all. Apparently a few phone calls from the White House to Hamid Karzai took care of things.
There is currently a backlash on 'earmarks,' otherwise known as pork projects pushed by individual members of Congress. Robert Novak says the reason nothing is being done about it is because the White House hasn't done anything....yet.
Why are people rioting in France? Because the government wants to change the law to make them actually work, that's why. Larry Kudlow explains why unemployment is so high in France.
Michael Barone looks at the practicality of building a 2,000 mile-long wall along the border with Mexico to keep out illegals. Also, what do we do about the 11 million or so that are already here?
Ohio Senator Mike DeWine is facing re-election this year after two terms in the Senate...and George Will says he has an uphill battle. It doesn't look good for DeWine.
Hillary Clinton has $17.1 million on hand as she enters her battle for re-election in New York this fall. But as William F. Buckley explains, she doesn't need all that money to be re-elected to her Senate seat. She has her eyes on a bigger prize.
