Neal is out until Monday trying to bag a few snowboarders on the slopes. I'm sure we'll hear all about it when he gets back. In the meantime, the staff has pulled together a few notes so you don't get in a position where you might actually have to work at work.
TAKING PREEMPTIVE ACTION
Big story on all the news outlets this morning: President Bush has reinstated the doctrine of preemptive action. What does this actually mean? Well, it means he is sticking to his policy of attacking countries before they attack us. Like removing Saddam Hussein from power before he sold weapons of mass destruction to terrorists, for instance.
So what brings this up? Iran. The situation with that Islamic extremist country is very grave, worse than it ever was with Iraq. Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism. Iran has pledged to wipe Israel off the map and has vowed the destruction of the United States. Iran is aggressively developing nuclear weapons. The country is run by a lunatic who just might make good on its threats.
They also support terrorism. The Islamic killers in Iraq are streaming across the border from Iran and are also being supplied by Tehran. So what are we going to do about it? Well, here is some clue. In a national security report released by the White House that was some 49 pages long, George Bush wrote: "If necessary, however, under long-standing principles of self defense, we do not rule out the use of force before attacks occur -- even if uncertainty remains as to the time and place of the enemy's attack." It also says that the administration prefers diplomacy.
But diplomacy hasn't worked with Iran, nor will it ever. Even UN sanctions seem like an impossibility, with China and Russia not supporting the idea. At this point, the only way it seems like we are going to stop Iran's nuclear weapons program is if we do it ourselves. And how do we do that?
By bombing their reactors. We know where they are. Somebody is going to have to do it, and soon. Gentlemen, start your engines. INCREASING THE DEBT CEILING
Quick..who is the biggest-spending president in the history of the United States of America? FDR? LBJ? Bill Clinton? Nope, not even close. The answer is the current occupant of the Oval Office, President George Walker Bush. Ronald Reagan must be spinning in his grave at the vast sums of money being spent by the federal government.
It used to be that Republican presidents had an easy out. Constitutionally, Congress appropriates every dollar. They are the ones that did the spending. So if there were big deficits or huge increases in spending, it was easy to blame the Democrats. They ran the show on The Hill for decades. Only now that doesn't wash either.
The Republican majority stormed to power after the 1994 midterm elections and in the decade since, have promptly doubled the size of the federal government. Worse, we now have a president that has happily signed bill after bill spending trillions of dollars...much of it borrowed. No child left behind? No problem! Free pills for old people? Coming right up!
So with these trillions of dollars being borrowed, periodically the United States has to raise its own credit limit. We are now facing the fourth such vote since the younger George Bush took office. The need is to increase the debt limit by another $781 billion, to $9 trillion. That's right...nine trillion dollars, all of it borrowed. Every baby being pushed out from now on owes $30,000 in debt, thanks to the U.S. government.
Limited government? Not this Republican party. Not now, not anymore. Perhaps the Libertarian Party will put down the hemp rope and the Iraq war protest sign long enough to capitalize on the issue. JUSTICE FOR CARLIE BRUCIA
Joseph Smith, the 39-year-old scumbag that abducted 11-year-old Carlie Brucia two years ago in Sarasota, Florida, has been sentenced to die. The abduction was caught on camera for all to see...there was Smith, abducting Carlie right in front of the world. He then raped and murdered the child.
Oh..and did you see this douchebag on TV last month in court? He blamed his actions on heroin and cocaine...and said he even tried to kill himself the day he abducted her. It's too bad he didn't succeed. So now he has been sentenced to death. But there is no justice for little Carlie Brucia. Why?
Because now this human garbage will appeal. He will appeal and appeal and appeal, all while he sits on death row...a guest of the state of Florida. There he will enjoy free room and board at taxpayer's expense. He will be living life that he denied this child. If and when he ever gets the needle, it will be years down the road.
This one was a no-doubter, not even worthy of a trial. After the verdict was ready, the bailiff should have taken him out behind the courthouse, lined him up against the wall and blown his brains out.

Well, we just might be getting somewhere on border security. Senate Majority Leader Bill First is going to open debate today on a bill to deal with the problem. However, the bill in question does nothing about the illegal aliens already here. There are houses to roof and yards to landscape, you know.
