IRAN THREATENS U.S. If you believe the Bush administration, we're supposed to think that the nuclear crisis with Iran can be handled peacefully. There is evidently some diplomatic solution always just around the corner. Fine. Which corner? Sure haven't seen it yet!
The White House likes to say Iran will not be allowed to have a nuclear program...and that there will be consequences for their continued pursuit of weapons of mass destruction. But what are we really going to do about it? Evidently the next step is to go to the U.N. security council. NOW I'm impressed. The UN has such a wonderful track record of preventing and solving international conflicts. I'm going to sleep so well tonight knowing that the UN is on the job! Come on, folks; what do you think the UN is going to do? Russia has already said that it is going to oppose the imposition of sanctions. Can the Security Council act with a Russian veto? Don't think so! So today brings a warning from the mullahs in Tehran. They threatened the United States yesterday with "harm and pain" if we try to use the U.N. to impose sanctions. This just as we hear the news that the Iranians have enough nuclear material for 10 atomic bombs. The harm and pain Iran spoke of inflicting on us seems to mean using oil as a weapon. It may well turn out here that our only option is a military one. Hopefully there are not many Americans out there who think that we should allow this hate-filled Islamic government to get its hands on nuclear weapons. The question is, do we have the national will to do what may be necessary here? Have the Democrats so damaged our will to fight that Americans would rather sit back and allow Iran to become a nuclear power? What the hell --- let's just let Israel handle this for us. GOOD FOR ARIZONA! IT'S ABOUT TIME
Arizona's Governor Janet Napolitano has ordered additional National Guard troops to the Arizona / Mexico border. The goal is to help stop illegal immigrants from crossing the border. There were already 170 Guardsmen on the border, no word on how many more will head down there. Napolitano gets that part right ... sending more troops. She gets this part wrong. She says that we are not at war with Mexico. Sorry, but in a very real sense we are at war with Mexico. We're being invaded. The Mexican government is sending waves of its citizens into the United States for the specific purpose of draining money from the US economy and having it sent back to Mexico. The Mexican government has some real problems with funding needed social services. Every dollar that an illegal worker in the US sends back to his family in Mexico is a dollar that the Mexican government doesn't have to spend to provide needed services to that family. And just how many dollars are we talking about? Try $15 billion. This flow of money is important enough to the Mexican economy that the Mexican government actually promotes the wave of illegal immigration by printing comic books with instructions to Mexicans as to how to cross the border into the US, stay alive and get a job, all without being caught. It's an economic invasion, and American workers are footing the bill. At least we have one governor who isn't afraid to take some action.
TAKING ADVANTAGE OF WIDESPREAD IGNORANCE
There's a bill in the New York legislature that would require any company with more than 100 employees to provide health insurance to their employees. Under this bill these companies would have to spend at least $3 per hour for every employee to pay for health benefits. Oddly, manufacturing and agriculture is exempt. First ... can someone please explain to me just how it came to pass that we all assume that employers are responsible for the health care of employees? May I suggest that, among other things, this is all part of the left-wing war on individuality that's been ongoing in this country for decades? The object here is to attack the concept of the individual by attacking the idea of individual responsibility! No politician, then, wants to suggest that it might be best for the individual to assume the responsibility for their own health care. Any politician who recognizes the concept of individual responsibility then has to recognize the concept of individual rights. When you start talking about the idea of individual rights you then have to address the ways that government infringes on those rights. Politicians don't like to do that ... so the best preventative is to destroy the idea of individualism altogether. Remember, no less than Ted Kennedy himself has admitted the existence of the war against individuality in this country. Government power is at the center of this issue. Politicians have long known that in order to control the individual they need to control that individual's access to some of the basic necessities of life. Social Security, for instance, exists for two reasons. One, to provide a huge amount of cash that politicians can use to buy votes. Secondly, to control to whatever extent possible the retirement life of older Americans. It is more difficult for a politician to frighten a senior citizen who is living a comfortable retired life on funds invested in private retirement accounts. But if those funds are controlled by the political class, the wizened citizens are more than willing to protect their retirement lifestyle with their votes. Politicians know that this power will only be increased if they can also control a person's access to health care. When an individual owns their own private health insurance policy their dependency on government is lessened. Politicians don't like this, so they make it as difficult as possible for individuals to be able to afford their own private health insurance policies. Politicians do this through expensive mandated coverages and the denial of tax breaks for individuals striking out on their own. Back to New York. The politicians in New York who are proposing this health insurance mandate for employers with over 100 employees know that the people won't understand that the cost will eventually be born by the consumers. It is a virtual tax increase on every citizen of the state of New York. This $3 per hour cost for every employee is going to end up embedded in the cost of whatever consumer good or service these companies produce. This is a tax, and all taxes are paid by individuals. Thanks to our hideous system of government education most people don't understand this. Once again, politicians will be made more powerful, the concept of individual responsibility will take a beating, and our ignorance will cost us money at the cash register. HEY FLORIDA! WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO BECOME PART OF THE SOLUTION?
By a 16-5 vote the Senate Energy Committee has agreed to open up areas of the Gulf of Mexico to offshore drilling. A vote from the full Senate is in the offing. Both of Florida's senators, Bill Nelson and Mel Martinez are threatening a filibuster. There would be no drilling rig closer to 100 miles to Florida shores. You wouldn't see them. Florida politicians say they're trying to protect Florida's beaches and it's multi-billion dollar tourist industry. The threat of any leaks from these wells reaching Florida's shoreline is, at best, miniscule. Today's technology all but eliminates that threat.
Look ... I love Florida. I have a second home there .. right on the gulf coast. I'll spend this weekend there. I graduated from high school in Pensacola, my wife is from Jacksonville. We're part of this state, and we think that it's time that Florida get off it's high horse and get with the program ... join the rest of this country in trying to produce our way out of dependence on Mideast oil. In other words, Florida: Grow up. HILLARY'S TWO FACES
As part of Hillary Clinton's makeover in recent years, she has taken rightward stances on various issues. From religion to national security to illegal immigration....there was The Hildabeast doing her best impression of a Republican. But as we're learning now, it was all just an act. As the saying goes, a Hildabeast doesn't change its spots (or would that be stripes?).
Senator Clinton is now accusing the Republican party of wanting to create a police state over the issue of illegal immigration. A bill was recently passed that would make being in the United States illegally a felony. Believe it or not, right now it's only a civil offense. And just how did Saint Hillary respond to this attempt to make illegal immigration illegal?
Speaking at a rally of Irish immigrants (because, as we know, America's problem with illegal aliens begins with Ireland,) Hillary said the plan was "an unworkable scheme to try to deport 11 million people, which you have to have a police state to try to do." Eleven million is the rough estimate of how many illegals there are in this country. Some think that the number is quite a bit higher.
So suddenly...here we have Hillary Clinton...who not that long ago was talking about doing something about illegal immigration...reversing course on the issue. Perhaps one of her dog washers sat her down and showed here the numbers on Hispanic voters. Remember, it's all about getting elected. The rules are simple for Hillary: You say what you have to say, ignore what you have to ignore, change positions when necessary, and do what you have to do to get the votes. Honesty is not a part of the equation.

Good news in the war on smoking: cigarette sales have hit a 55-year low. But don't think for a second that government is the least bit happy about it. Think of all the revenue they're going to start losing if the trend continues.
Here's how bad things are along the border with Mexico. If the 24-county region along the border were considered the 51st state, it would be first in federal crime, second in tuberculosis and near the bottom in education and income. But hey..they'll do jobs Americans won't, right?
Things don't look good for Republicans going into the mid-term elections this fall. Except for one thing, according to Michael Barone: the Democrats aren't doing any better.

We're starting to hear from more and more former military people in Iraq. They seem to be telling us that Saddam had lots of weapons of mass destruction. He also apparently smuggled them out of the country before the war began. Imagine that! Larry Elder has more.
The left likes to talk about how the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. To remedy this, they engage in income redistribution. But as Alan Reynolds tells us, most income is either earned or stolen.I've mentioned to you that virtually every day I receive notices that someone, somewhere is opining in some editorial, column or broadcast opinion piece in favor of the FairTax. Here's another example from The Roanoke Times. Read all about it. Prosecutors put Atlanta's corrupt former mayor on trial! It's now in the hands of the jury! But, remember this: He's black. This means that this just has to be nothing more than a plot by white America to attack yet another completely and totally honest black elected official. Full trial coverage.
