SPEECH TONIGHT IN NAPLES
This one I'm looking forward to. Tonight it will be my turn in a speaker's series sponsored by the Quest Educational Foundation of Naples Florida. Quest is a non-profit organization whose mission it is to foster freedom through education. I can't think of a worthier goal. We're going to have a good time. VOUCHERS! OH MY GOD! NO!!!!
In Georgia the governor is considering a plan whereby the state could help fund some community social service projects initiated by churches. The truth here is that these private churches do a better job of delivering many of these social services than government does. Can you guess who is stepping up to loudly protest the idea? Well, that would be the Georgia Association of Educators, our wonderful teacher's union. One union spokesman said "It would open a floodgate to vouchers and that is our primary objection to this bill." Vouchers! Union government teachers go to sleep at night worrying about vouchers. They wake up to nightmares about vouchers. They arise in the morning shivering in a cold sweat brought on by thoughts of vouchers. They see vouchers in every dark corner and under every rock. It seems at times that their entire life is occupied by a focus on keeping that floodgate to vouchers from ever opening.
Surely I don't have to spell this out for you, do I? You do understand why these union teachers fear vouchers as they do, don't you? These teachers are unionized. Their jobs are all but guaranteed. It's terribly difficult to fire them. Politicians fear them. They get three months off a year. AND THEY DON'T HAVE TO PERFORM! Generally speaking, there is no requirement that they do their job! They have a monopoly! The government provides them with a place to work, pays their salaries, and works hard to prevent competition! Imagine government grocery stores. Groceries are essential, aren't they? Come on, you have to eat! So let's say that about 100 years ago someone came up with the brilliant idea of establishing a system of government-run grocery stores. To make sure that every American got enough to eat, local governments created a nutrition tax. All property owners had to pay a nutrition tax every year amounting to thousands of dollars. Under this great government plan you are assigned to a grocery store when you move into a neighborhood. Every year the local government creates a credit for you at this grocery store; an account in your name. When you want to buy groceries you have to go to this store and no other. Would your assigned grocery store feel any pressure to make sure that you get the best quality foods? Would this grocery store work hard to determine what its customers want? Would you be assured of the latest technology and products? The answer to all of these questions is, of course, no! Why would they? What do they have to fear? Competition? There IS no competition! The citizen's money is taken away from him by force and put into an account at one particular grocery store, and no other store. If you want to go to a private, non-government-operated grocery store you are going to have to dig into your own pockets and spend even more money! You're trapped, and the grocery store managers and employees know it. There is no real need to deliver a quality shopping experience or the best products. Instead of focusing on their customers these managers and employees focus on getting even more money and benefits from the government. Oh .. and government grocery store clerks would be focusing on one more thing ... preventing competition. Every once in a while someone is going to step forward with a rather radical idea. Someone is going to suggest that people be given vouchers equal to the amount they pay in grocery taxes so that they, like their rich neighbors, can go shop at those private grocery stores where fresher food and a wider variety of products are available! As soon as this suggestion is made the managers and employees of the government grocery stores are going to erupt into howls of anguish. They will say that this is all a plot to destroy public grocery stores. They will wail that groceries are a necessity and that there should not be any competition in the selling of those groceries. They will watch every politician like a hawk, making sure that none of them even utter so much as a hint that they might be willing to consider the idea of grocery vouchers, and they'll build a government employee union that is so strong and so far-reaching that only the boldest of politicians would dare to cross that line. It's not groceries we're talking about my friends. It's your children. How long are you going to let these teacher's unions run the show like this? FROM THE GAMMA ALPHA SIGMA FRATERNITY HOUSE
Since much of what goes on in the world of entertainment and celebrity worshiping these days gets reported as news, here's a brief rundown on some of the stories currently topping the headlines.
1.) The Winter Olympics. Does anyone care? The American teams have made a lackluster showing, the games are in Italy and...well, whatever. It'll all be over soon...and hardly anyone will remember who was on.
2.) American Idol. Four contestants were eliminated last night. It's the #1 show on TV, but what does this actually mean? Politicians must be loving this....they have the public hypnotized by a TV show while they raid the treasury. A nice arrangement. In the meantime, tens of thousands of young Americans set aside the books and their studies to prepare for being the next American Idol.
3.) Donald Trump is calling Martha Stewart a moron. Evidently 'The Donald' is upset because Martha blamed the failure of her lame TV show on Trump. Her show was terrible...she wasn't mean enough. But why should we care?
4.) Apple iTunes hit its billionth download. Big deal. Here is a story that (1) occupied way too much time on the TV news shows this morning; and (2) could not possibly have any affect on my life. By the way, the FairTax book is available in audiobook format in iTunes...just type Boortz into the search box and you can pick it up for $18.95. All without leaving the house.
Is this a great country or what?
HATE MAIL --- YOU TAKE WHAT YOU CAN GET Why would I complain about a paucity of hate mail? That would be because good, visceral hate mail means that I'm really getting under some liberal's skin. The more illogical, personal and foul they are, the greater the impact I'm having. When the hate mail isn't there it means I'm not doing my job. That, in a nutshell, is why we celebrate hate mail Below is some hate mail Web Guy forwarded to me yesterday. I'm told Daniel Bowles has emailed me before, though I cannot remember anything specific. I just thought it would be a spot of fun to include the entire email here so that you can understand the thought processes of the left --- or maybe not. Subject: BOORTZ Name: Daniel Bowles Email: dan.bowles@phoenix.edu
Message: Mr. Boortz,
I have written your show before, and I must do so again. To start off, myself and two coworkers have began to refer to the action of a bowel movement as a "BOORTZ" Reason: Every time anyone goes into the restroom, there is your horrific column in one, if not all of the stalls. Hence we now say, "I gotta Boortz" or "I left a nasty Boortz in the toilet!" To sum it up, we think your column is equal to fecal matter, you get the idea...Well, I was 'Boortzing' and believe it or not, there was your column. I commenced reading small portions. You accuse so many good people who are morally and ethically straight of being socialist or communist. You refer to them as the most ridiculous expletives that I have ever heard, why? Are they not entitled to their opinions as you are to yours? You reflect the vilest racism that I have ever beheld; you and many of the other Ultra-Conservatives like you. God created all men equal, they are His Children , and those His children where all born under different circumstances, who do you think you are in saying that everyone should live as an American lives, or believe as an American believes, or act as an American acts! What's good for the goose is not always good for the gander! Stop your racism, stop your hatred towards an extremely productive race of God's children who are doing the best they can with what they have been given in third world conditions. It is because of people like you that started their hatred toward us! You make me sick, the way you brainwash our younger generation of citizens. The blood of many will rest upon your soul as well those who seek to destroy other governments as you do. I will probably write you again, seeing that I haven't enough time to finish the fullest extent as to what I am feeling. |
Now isn't that clever? What an incredible command of the written word! Mr. Bowles has done quite the job of putting me into my place, don't you think? We'll let you know when we hear more. Don't forget, we include fun listener emails in just about every Boortz Blast newsletter. Sign up here.

Charles Krauthammer has a good one today. The Democrats, all up in arms over this Dubai ports deal, say it's bad for national security. But would they allow a citizen of the UAE to be racially profiled at an airport with additional security?
What is one of the biggest exports shipped out of the ports that were scheduled to be taken over by the Dubai company? Nuclear reactors. How hard would it be to ship a few of those Iran's way?
President Bush has called the UAE an ally in the war on terrorism, but all was not rosy 7 years ago. That was when the US government raised concerns with the UAE about their ties to Osama Bin Laden.
This is entertaining....New York Senator Chuck Schumer is concerned about the 'manifolds' of the shipping containers being altered. Of course he means 'manifests,' but it's worth pointing out.
Like the president, Homeland Security Director Michael Chertoff says he was unaware of the ports deal until after it was approved. It would seem such an important transaction would have his attention, but I guess not.
In the interest of offering both points of view, here's Mansoor Ijaz to explain why the Dubai Ports World deal is not only just fine and dandy, but a good bridge to the Muslim world.
Professor Mike Adams once again takes on the feminists....answering the letter of someone who wrote his college asking them to silence him. Always entertaining, never boring.
You know that lethal injection that was recently delayed because some doctors walked out and refused to perform the execution? Mona Charen takes a look at the scumbag who's still living, and what he did.
Oliver North points out the obvious: the White House is doing a terrible job these days of getting their message out. He points to the Dubai ports mishap, the NSA wiretaps, and so on.
So what does Jonah Goldberg think about the Dubai Ports World deal? Not much. He does point out that no matter who owns the port, the Coast Guard would continue to provide the security.Check out this disgusting contract of wifely duties. Are you shocked this guy is charged with kidnapping and child pornography? The Georgia General Assembly is busy spending time on the taxpayer dime trying to name an official state dirt. |
