ATTACKING WITHOUT CONSCIENCE

Unless you've been hiding under your bed, you know that Democrats have stepped up their campaign to convince the American people that over two thousand young men and women of the American armed forces died in Iraq for one reason and for one reason only, Bush lied.  The problem with this "Bush lied" charge is that Democrats know full well that it simply is not true.  The issue for Democrats though is not whether or not the charge is true, but whether or not they can convince the American people that it is true.  For politicians ... and I'm referring to politicians on both sides of the aisle ... the truth is whatever you can convince the people that it is.  The problem with this particular attempt to create a new truth is that it is undermining our war on terror and endangering the men and women serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Yesterday I gave you a reading assignment for a Wall Street Journal article by Norman Podhoretz titled "Who is Lying About Iraq?"  Here's your link in case you missed it yesterday.  In his 10-page essay, Podhoretz does an excellent job of showing just how completely dishonest the Democrats are being in their attacks on Bush.  The problem we face here is that people who are convinced that Bush lied about the reasons for going after Saddam won't bother to read the article.  These people just don't want to be inconvenienced by the truth.

On the same issue, last night we had an object lesson in just why leftists hate Fox News Channel.  Brian Wilson appeared on Special Report with Brit Hume to specifically address some of the "Bush lied" claims being made by Democrats.  The first Democrat featured in Wilson's report was Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.  Reid recently said that his vote for using military force to remove Saddam was based " ... on a  number of things.  Yellowcake.  Aluminum tubes. Secret meetings by Iraqi agents in Europe.  Training facilities in Iraq training terrorists."  Well, that seems to be at variance with what Harry Reid said on March 17, 2003.  On that date Reid said "I agree with - and have long supported - the ultimate goal of disarming Saddam Hussein.  Removing this despicable tyrant from power will make the world a safer place."  Hmmmmm .... no mention of yellowcake, aluminum tubes or terrorist training.  He just said that the world would be a safer place with Saddam out of power.  Anti-Saddam then.  Pro-Saddam now.  Go figure.

Oh -- and don't give me flack about that "pro-Saddam" line.  To say that the United States should not have gone to war in Iraq is to say that Saddam Hussein should not have been removed from power.   You can't have it both ways.

Next we have Michigan's Democratic Senator Carl Levin:  Just a few days ago Levin, in pushing the idea that Bush lied, said "President Bush said before the war you cannot distinguish between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein."  Is it true?  Did Bush really say that?  Some reporters pressed Levin and his aids to come up with the specifics of  that quote ... when Bush said that you cannot distinguish between Saddam and Al Qaeda.  The best that Levin's office could do was to come up with a White House briefing on September 25, 2002.  At that event Bush was asked who he considered to be the greater threat to the United States, Al Qaeda or Saddam Hussein.  He answered:  "Both of them need to be dealt with.  The war on terror ... you can't distinguish between Saddam and Al Qaeda when you talk about the war on terror.  You can't distinguish between the two because they're both equally as bad."  Does it seem to you that Levin took that statement out of context?  Of course he did!  And since Fox News Channel didn't let him get away with it, that makes Fox News Channel a right-wing extremist hate machine.

Carl Levin wasn't through with his distortions and lies.  He also claimed that Bush said that Saddam trained the 9/11 hijackers.  Take the way-back machine to January of 2003.  Bush was asked if he thought that Saddam had anything to do with training the 9/11 hijackers.  His response?  "can't make that claim."  OK, Senator Levin ... you're move.

It's not news that politicians lie.  They do -- Republicans and Democrats alike.  The news here is that you won't find the New York Times, the Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Time or Newsweek going out of their way to investigate the claims made by Levin, Reid and the rest of the "Bush lied" cabal the way Fox News Channel and The Wall Street Journal did.  Why, that would be out of the mainstream, wouldn't it?

A SAD DAY IN AMERICA

Today is the first day that Medicare recipients can enroll in the latest wealth transfer from the young to the old:  Medicare prescription drug coverage.  This is the largest expansion of government in decades...and it was all at the behest of a Republican president.  Over the coming decades, the Medicare prescription drug benefit will cost trillions of dollars...the Gimme Generation will clean up and our children will be paying for it the rest of their lives.

And what was the point?  George W. Bush, the biggest spender in the history of the republic, pushed the prescription drug plan because it seemed to be the perfect vote-buying scheme.  Give greater government benefits to the most reliable voters in history and they'll love you forever.  All that got him was to 37% in the polls.

The sad fact of socialism is that no government spending is ever enough, which is the problem with the welfare state.  As proof of this, look no further than the media coverage of the the new plan.  Already, the media is bashing the prescription drug plan....there's too many choices!  What people really want is one choice...the government covers everything and the rest of us pay for it all.

A sad day in America, but unfortunately, not surprising.  Thanks to government schools churning out a new army of leftists daily, it won't be long before the takeover is complete.

THE HEAD WEASEL SPEAKS

French President and preeminent Euro-weenie Jacques Chirac gave a public address yesterday in which he proposed solutions for the Muslim riots in France.  His action plan read like the blueprints of the failed policies of liberalism in the United States over the last 40 years.  Among his ideas:

Le Grande Grenouille called the riots a sign of a "profound malaise" and said it was time to reach out to the rioters.  Yeah...that'll work.  We tried to "reach out" to Islamic terrorists for decades, and there are 3,000 people who paid the ultimate price for that policy on 9/11/01.  Good luck.

Chirac said discrimination should be eliminated, but not through quotas.  Sound familiar?  It should, because it's the same tripe the left has been peddling in this country for years.  The result will be "programs to encourage diversity." In France they call that "positive discrimination."  The idea is to introduce what we know as affirmative action programs for the children of third-world immigrants. This is what you call rewarding bad behavior. This is also what you call a surrender ... and this, as we all know, is the French way.

And so now France is going to learn the hard way what we have learned: you don't negotiate with terrorists.  They're going to try and feel the pain of the rioters who have been rampaging their country for weeks...by reaching out to them and offering more handouts.

We'll see how many cars the Islamic rioters burn in return.

GOOD NEWS FOR ZARQAWI

Al Qaeda Iraqi insurgent leader Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi has scored a victory...in the United States Senate.  What does Zarqawi want more than anything?  The U.S. withdrawal from Iraq....he wants all of the troops to leave so he can set up shop by turning the country into an Islamic state and a permanent terror base.  If one group of Senators gets their way, he'll be in luck.

They are going to consider legislation (sadly being pushed by "Republicans") that would call on George W. Bush to set a date in ending the war in Iraq.  What idiocy.  This would do nothing but strengthen the hand of the Islamic Jihadists.  Why? Because if Zarqawi and his thugs know when we're going to leave, then that just means he'll wait us out.  Once we leave, then the real fun will begin.  Very, very bad idea.

The Republican plan stops just a bit short of the Democratic plan, which calls for a Vietnam-style cutting and running. Still, politicians should be ashamed of themselves. We are winning the war in Iraq, and they need to stay out of it.  I'm sure the people of Iraq who have supported the American effort thus far will start to have second doubts.  If America is setting a date for a pullout, instead of continuing with the commitment to see this through to conclusion, then maybe it's time to move on over to support the other side now, rather than later.  The war is best run by the United States Military and the Commander-In-Chief, not the Senator from Tennessee.

There have been tremendous successes in Iraq that far outweigh the setbacks.  If today's politicians were around in the early 40's, we probably wouldn't have been victorious in World War II.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Think Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq?  Did you know there is a videotape that shows Iraqis scheming to get rid of their weapons of mass destruction?  How are the Baathists in the Democratic party going to explain that one?

Bill Clinton says Iran, which has vowed to destroy Israel and the United States, is not a threat to Israel.  This from a failed American president who did nothing about terrorism for 8 years. He's their best friend!

In light of recent events, Mark Steyn says bicultural Europe is doomed.  In fact, according to him, the writing has been on the wall for some time.

So who or what is really to blame for the economic conditions of the Muslim rioters in France?  Thomas Sowell says it's the same reason poverty is in this country: government minimum wage laws and labor unions.

Jordanians are shocked that Islamic terrorism has attacked their country...but as Dennis Prager points out, they wouldn't have been shocked if the bombers were blowing up Christians and Jews.

After a couple years of success running the insurgency in Iraq. Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi may have just screwed up.  James Robbins  says the choice to attack Jordan may have not been a good one.

Just a year after George W. Bush was re-elected and the GOP increased its majorities in the House and Senate, Republicans are in full-on panic mode.  But why?  John Hinderaker asks whether the party is really in disarray.

The Democrats are quite short on vision these days....all they know is they hate George Bush, but they're not exactly offering any of their own solutions.  Jim Wooten says you can sum up the Democratic slogan these days in two words: Bush lied.

In today's column, University of North Carolina Professor Mike Adams follows up in a series of columns about political correctness and hypocrisy....and finds out he's making a bigger difference than he could ever imagine.

The left intends to win its way back into power by further scandal and even a run at impeachment, and David Limbaugh warns the president is going to have to hit back harder than he's even been doing this week.

O'Reilly Bingo?  What's this?
