VETERAN'S DAY

In case you're wondering why there's no mail delivery today, it is Veteran's Day.  This is perhaps one of the most meaningful holidays we celebrate in America.  Veteran's Day.   What does the day mean, other than a day off for a lot of people?  It is the day in which we honor the military veterans among us.  And we have much to honor.

Right now, serving abroad in the War on Terror, are over 150,000 U.S. troops.  They are away from their families, away from home and are sacrificing mightily so that the rest of us can live in freedom from the fear of Islamic terrorism.  It's especially important that those serving abroad know that they are appreciated...given the  agenda of the mainstream media and the anti-war left.

So on this Veteran's Day...be thankful.  Thank a Vet...because if it weren't for their willingness to sacrifice so much for the rest of us, we'd all be in a heap of trouble.  Just ask the Jordanians .... or the French.

VISOR STICKERS - PROBLEM SOLVED

Earlier this week I was complaining about those obnoxious visor stickers I found on the Cadillac XLR I bought for my bride.  The stickers, in English and French, warned me of the dangers of air bags and told me that a child would be better off in the back seat.  The XLR doesn't have a back seat.  I wanted the stickers off.  The Imperial Federal Government of the United States wants them to stay.  I won.  I just dabbed a little Goof Off on the stickers and slowly peeled them off.  I used a brush to clean off the adhesive residue and then washed down the visor with soap and water.  Worked for me .. not guaranteeing that it will work for you,  But what the hell, you can always order new visors.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!

Watching Fox News instead of CNN has already paid of.  This morning I heard a report on Republicans withdrawing a spending bill that called for reductions in future spending increases on some social programs.  Of course the real story here is that Republicans can't even push a bill through congress that reduces the amount of spending increases, let alone actually reducing spending.  So, just how did Fox News report this story differently than CNN would?  Throughout most of the mainstream media you will read or hear that the Republicans were seeking spending cuts.  On Fox News this morning they actually told the truth.  The Republicans were only trying to "reduce the amount of future spending increases." Wow!  Somebody reported something accurately with no agenda to shade the truth!

Update:  I just finished watching last night's Special Report with Brit Hume.  Hume covered this story and made references to "cutting spending."  No clarification that we were talking about reductions in future spending increases.  So ... nobody's perfect, I guess.

FRENCH TERROR LEVELS.

This from a listener yesterday:

AP and UPI reported today that the French government announced that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Collaborate" and "Surrender". The raise was precipitated by a recent fire which destroyed France's white flag factory, thereby disabling its military.

Insensitive?  You bet!  Dontcha love it?

MUSLIMS CONDEMNING TERRORISM

Well, it's about time. After Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi and his Muslim cronies blew up a number of hotels in Amman, Jordan the other day (including, among other things, a Muslim wedding) some Muslims took to the street to protest.  They shouted  "Death to al-Zarqawi, the villain and the traitor!"  This is progress.  What we are seeing here is not unlike, say, a Bigfoot sighting.  An actual huge gathering of Muslims condemning terrorism...there may be hope for the Arab world yet!

But just as you may be struck by the Jordanians protesting Zarqawi's attacks, you will also be struck by what you don't hear.  Will we see press conferences by the clerics and the imams denouncing any and all forms of terrorism?  What about the leaders of other Muslim nations?  Will they chime in and denounce the attacks?

Doubtful.  Why not?  Could it be that deep inside they actually have some sympathy for the jihadist cause?  That's the only conclusion that can be drawn, because their silence is deafening.  How about a statement from CAIR...the Council on American Islamic Relations...stating that they support democracy in the Middle East and denounce all forms of terrorism?  Fat chance.

But, we'll take what we can get.  Perhaps if these animals attack enough Muslim countries, people will start to rise up and confront the radicals in their own religion.

An anonymous donor sent us this lovely example from a government school. Hey, thanks Michael Nixon. Looks like we have to blame this one on the playwright. If you see something like this (real please, not photoshopped) send it to us. If we start getting enough of these we might start a scrapbook.

PAT ROBERTSON AGAIN

Pat Robertson is back in the news.  No, 'The 700 Club' hasn't been canceled....could we really be that lucky?  At any rate, Pat has his panties in a bunch because all eight school board members pushing 'Intelligent Design,' or 'creationism' as it is more correctly called, were defeated in the tiny town of Dover, Pennsylvania.  Voters there didn't think too much of government officials using government institutions to promote religious beliefs.

Pat said God is going to retaliate against the voters of Dover by ignoring their future prayers: "I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God. You just rejected him from your city."  I'm sure the residents of Dover, PA are quaking in their boots.   Interesting, though -- isn't it?  A preacher of the Gospel telling a group of people not to turn to God in their hour of need.

Anyway, why does this matter? It doesn't...Pat Robertson is a religious zealot.  This shouldn't even be news.....but the media makes a big deal out of it anyway.  Why?  The reason is simple.

By giving all this ink to Pat Robertson, they are attempting to paint all Christians, especially Christian conservatives with a broad brush.  You'll see sneering comments in the news coverage about how Pat Robertson is an ally of George Bush, as if he somehow speaks for the president.

Pat Robertson is not a public official.  True -- he can be entertaining at times.  Why he once said that feminism causes women to "kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians."  Maybe that's what  happened to those Carolina Panthers cheerleaders!

READING ASSIGNMENTS

The liberals in the Republican party are at it again....this time on the budget.  House leaders were forced to pull a $54 billion budget-cutting measure off the floor after moderates threw a fit.  I guess killing drilling in ANWR wasn't enough.

The White House is finally striking back over the war in Iraq
...reminding people that many Democrats voted for the war.  It's about time!

Charles Krauthammer says it's time to pump some common sense into energy policy...and he is proposing, no joke, raising gasoline taxes.  He's even praising high gas prices.  Has he lost his mind?  Read on to find out.

John McCain, not somebody known for carrying the water of the Bush administration, says there is a strategy for winning the war in Iraq.  Check out the transcript of a speech he made at the American Enterprise Institute.

Did the Democratic victories this week in Virginia and New Jersey forecast Republican defeat in '06 and '08?  Not at all, says James Pinkerton...and history tells us so.

Jonah Goldberg says he is trying desperately not to take pleasure
at the misfortune of the French during their riots, but he can't.  He also thinks the riots have nothing to do with Islam.

Democrats are always complaining about how George Bush is harming our image in the world...but David Limbaugh says it's the left that's doing just that, and he cites examples.

Have you thought about seeing that new movie "Jarhead," which purports to be about Marines in the 1991 Gulf War?  Oliver North says think again....don't waste your time.

So why did Paris burn?  Mona Charen says it's a combination of French appeasement and socialism.  She runs through the excuses given by France.

The problem with France is  that it needs more freedom, not more government intervention.  Did you know, for instance, that workers in France aren't allowed to work more than 35 hours a week?   Jack Chambless has more.
