DEMEANING ROSA PARKS
Other than Bill and Hillary, just who were the featured luminaries at the funeral of Rosa Parks yesterday? Why, none other than race pimps Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton! Fifty years after Rosa Parks made her stand on that bus in Montgomery, Alabama this is the best we can do? Fifty years of the civil rights movement and the best they can do to honor Rosa Parks is to present to the American people is a man who rushed to the scene of Martin Luther King's assassination so that he could wipe blood on his shirt and another man who's record of lies and calls to violence have resulted in the deaths of innocent people? Meanwhile, in Maryland, liberals who would be quick to profess their allegiance to the civil rights movement are tossing Oreo cookies at the black Lt. Governor of Maryland who is running for a U.S. Senate seat. A liberal website depicts Lt. Governor Michael Steele as a black-faced minstrel while other good liberals call him an Uncle Tom. A black New Yorker who doesn't like the fact that Michael Steele hasn't toed the Democratic Party line calls him "Simple Sambo." Kweisi Mfume, the former NAACP president, sees no problem with the name-calling and racial epithets. He says that the race baiters are just "pointing out the obvious."
Rosa Parks would be so proud. SOME SUGGESTIONS FOR CHARLES GRASSLEY
Yesterday on the program you heard a bit of ranting about so-called "Republican" Senator Charles Grassley (IA). Grassley is the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and had decided that he's not happy with the money that oil companies are making. Grassley knows that consumers are getting bent out of shape over oil company profits, and being the politician that he is he has decided that when the people are upset there's an opportunity for a politician to address their concerns and garner some brownie points. Grassley is "suggesting" that the oil companies donate a portion of their profits for a decades old "temporary" program to pay for home heating oil for non-achievers. I wrote a column for Townhall.com on this issue, and to my surprise they rushed it to the internet today! I point out in that column that finally we have a Republican politician who has earned the sobriquet of "fascist," at least in the economic sense. Now ... here I am to expand on one train of thought presented in that column. If this Republican senator thinks that it is the role of government to tell privately owned businesses just how they must distribute their profits, here are a few suggestions: - Automobile manufacturers could be required to spend a portion of their profits on public transit projects.
- Broadcasters, who, after all, are government regulated businesses, should donate a portion of their profits to buy radios for poor people so that they can get the information they need to prepare for disasters like hurricanes .... as if the poor were actually going to prepare.
- Homebuilders could be required to donate profits to low income housing projects.
- Pfizer could be required to donate profits from the sale of Viagra to fertility clinics for the poor. Just what we need, more pregnant poor people.
- Financial institutions could be required to donate profits to a federally subsidized loan program for low-income Americans with bad credit.
- Food processors and manufacturers could be required to donate profits to community food banks.
Ahhh .. the list is endless. Once we establish the concept of the government telling businesses how their profits must be spent and invested .. the way is clear for our political class to further consolidate it's power. A BEAUTIFUL EXPLANATION OF "INVENTORY PROFITS"
Do you want to see Bill O'Reilly completely ripped apart? Oh, I don't mean in an ugly way ... just see one of O'Reilly's rants against the oil companies completely debunked? Well the Cato Institute's Alan Reynolds does a mighty fine job in a column entitled "Oil profits, prices and politics." How I would love to see O'Reilly spin his way out of this one. This would also make excellent material for you to use in your arguments with the anti-capitalists among us who want a windfall tax on oil company profits. Have you ever heard of "inventory profits?" Read this column and you'll have all the ammunition you need to embarrass the next person who gripes about oil company profits into silence ... if, that is, you can actually get them to stop screaming long enough to listen. GOOD NEWS TODAY ... THE SPAM CANS ARE ON THE WAY OUT!
I heard on CNN this morning that these hideous RJs (regional jets) are on the way out. These 50-seat monstrosities have been making travelers uncomfortable for about 15 years now. If you're a tall dude, like myself, you can't sit in a window seat on one of these cigar tubes. The curvature of the fuselage causes me to have to lean into my seatmate on the isle. There's no room for your bag, no room for your legs, and no room for your onion. Let's hear a big "good riddance" for the RJs. The replacements can't arrive soon enough. REINVENTING SADDAM HUSSEIN
Now we hear Saddam Hussein really meant to leave Iraq before the war started. As predicted, now that his trial has started, the push is on to rewrite history and portray the Butcher of Baghdad as a victim. After all, to show Saddam on trial is to showcase a George Bush success. The overthrow and capture of Saddam gives the war a purpose...and allows people to see him be punished.
So now we're seeing Saddam cast in a positive light. And one of the ways in which this extreme makeover is being conducted is the news making the rounds yesterday and today. It would seem Saddam Hussein accepted an offer for exile in the United Arab Emirates days before the invasion, but the deal fell through because Saddam wanted some conditions. Bad move. At any rate, expect the left to seize upon this as yet another reason the war in Iraq didn't need to take place. Saddam was going to leave! George Bush wanted war anyway! You can almost hear Cindy Sheehan gearing up right now.
But there are a few problems with this. For one, George Bush told Saddam Hussein and his sons that they had 48 hours to leave Iraq. They could have left. They could have surrendered. They chose not to. Yet another example of the power of bad decision making. That turned out to be a very bad move by Uday and Qusay...they're currently enjoying the proverbial eternal celestial desert sand nap, courtesy of the 101st Airborne.
This is going to become the new rallying cry for the moonbats (love that word). Saddam was going to leave, but George Bush went ahead with the war anyway. Revising history to fit your political ideology is so easy, isn't it?
LOOKING FOR TERRORISTS
Quick...if you were going to look for potential terrorist subjects at an NFL game, what would be the physical description of those you had your eye on? Would you be on the lookout for little old ladies in sweaters? How about college kids with their faces painted the team's colors and a football helmet on? Not exactly your garden variety Jihadist.
No...what you would be looking for would be people who look like they're from the Middle East. That is the profile of every foreign terrorist to strike the United States in the last quarter century. It is simply a waste of time and resources to bother looking at any other class of people. But we can't have that, can we? Of course not....that would be politically incorrect. So we have to treat everybody the same, just like we did on 9/11 and 3,000 people paid with their lives for our security lapses.
So here's the latest controversy. On September 19th, with former President Bush in attendance, five Muslim football fans left their seats at Giants Stadium to go pray. They congregated near an air duct. Bad idea. 10 security guards and three state troopers escorted them for questioning, and they were not allowed to return to their original seats. They were assigned other seats, were guarded, then escorted to their cars after the game. Now they're crying foul...claiming racial profiling.
The FBI says there was no profiling....that the actions taken had to do with where they were congregating, not what they were doing or what they looked like. Who cares. If we are to stop future Islamic terrorist attacks in this country (that are going to happen,) then we will have to start racially profiling, and in a hurry.
What if this had been a group of Al-Qaeda terrorists about to release Anthrax into the air ducts or plant a bomb? The FBI would be being hailed as heroes, not accused of "racial profiling." Sadly, those who operate the stadium are bowing to the deadly gods of political correctness. Said one official: "We do not profile anyone that comes into our arena, stadium or racetrack on any basis."
That's too bad...because one day people will pay for that policy with their lives, just like they did on 9/11.

A Missouri lawmaker wants umpire to pay state taxes; this because he's unhappy with some of the calls the umps made in the National League playoffs.
