CATCHING FLACK! (SOME DESERVED)
Web Guy left me a message last night telling me that I was
taking some heat from people who were upset about my statements yesterday
regarding Katrina and New Orleans. My comments were made regarding a
National Weather Service warning that was issued Sunday morning and which said,
among other things, that "all" wood frame apartment buildings would be
destroyed and that tall buildings could actually topple. I said that this
particular warning was a bit much, and we now know that to be true. No
tall buildings toppled, not "all" wood frame apartment buildings were destroyed,
now was downtown New Orleans wasn't buried in 15 to 28 feet of water.
Yesterday I also made the point that people who evacuate
based on overblown warnings will be more likely to ignore warnings the next time
.. possibly to their eternal regret. This has been proven to be true in the
past. At no time yesterday did I ever say, as some have charged,
that people should not have evacuated New Orleans or the Mississippi Gulf
coast.. I merely posited some reasons why, given what we knew yesterday
morning, people might make the decision not to evacuate the next time
such warnings come down.

I have never expressed opposition to evacuations from
hurricane-threatened areas. At no time yesterday did I suggest that
evacuations in and around New Orleans were unnecessary or ill advised. In
fact, my comments focused on official actions that could cause people not
to evacuate when threatened. As I've already said, I commented that
overblown warnings of destruction will cause people to ignore dire warnings when
the next hurricane approaches. I also suggested that people will be
more likely to stay behind to protect their property if officials fail to offer
protection from looters. I also said that some people refuse to leave
their homes because they know that officials will make it much more difficult
than necessary for them to return when the storm and the threat passes.
Now ... there is one entirely accurate critique of my
comments yesterday.. Web Guy tells me that listeners are upset because I
didn't acknowledge the extent of the damage in New Orleans. They're right.
When I was on the air yesterday morning I had no idea that the damage was as
widespread as it was. No --- we didn't have the predicted 15-flood in the
French Quarter, and buildings didn't topple, but there was flooding ---
lots of flooding. If you actually knew how extensive the damage was
yesterday morning, then I salute you. Today I'm hearing that as many as
40,000 homes or more in the New Orleans area are virtually under water.
There are areas along the Gulf coast that haven't been heard from, areas
inaccessible to rescue workers thus far. The death toll is above 50 as I write
this. I would guess it will be far above 100 by the end of the day.
I also suspect that we really have no idea how extensive the damage is at this
point. There are fears today that more levees around New Orleans today
might give way. This morning there's word of a breech in a levy that is
sending water down Canal street into downtown New Orleans. In addition to
the human loss, we're looking at billions of dollars in clean-up costs.
This may be the largest natural disaster ever to strike the United States.
This disaster has had a special effect on the Boortz Show
crew because we were in New Orleans just 24 hours before Katrina hit. We
met almost 1000 area residents at a book signing on Friday night, and had a
wonderful brunch with some of our WTIX listeners on Saturday morning.
We've seen some absolutely heartbreaking video from New Orleans today ... people
who lost loved ones, and one particular man who lost his wife. It breaks
your heart .. and we can't help but wonder if all of the people we met are OK ..
and pray that they are.
Now .. I do want to say this. I'll stand by what I
said yesterday. Overblown warnings do teach people not to pay attention
when a real threat approaches, and the actions of government can cause people to
stay in their homes rather than to seek safety. I realize, though, that
some of my comments yesterday may have have been misunderstood and, therefore,
may have hurt those who are actually suffering from the effects of Hurricane
Katrina. For that I humbly apologize.
IT
DIDN'T TAKE LONG
Less than a day. That's
how long it took the wacko leftist fringe to blame Hurricane Katrina on
President George W. Bush. That's right...it's all his fault. Apparently he had
the CIA weather satellites pointed at the Gulf of Mexico to stir things up. I
guess sometimes you need to spice things up on long, slow vacations.
Some of the allegations
include that Louisiana is not as well-protected because there are
so many
National Guard troops in Iraq. Uh-huh. But the biggie is that Katrina was
caused by global warming...and we all know who the sole source of global warming
is in the whole world. It's the mean, evil United States of America, with
George Bush at the helm. The media is already pointing out that global warming
warms the ocean...and that's an ingredient of these hurricanes...so ah ha!
Halliburton caused it all. Well, not really. The easiest way to refute this is
to point out the following.
Hurricanes have been
around forever, long before man invented everything that is supposedly causing
"global warming." In fact, one scientist quoted by the New York Times (no,
really, it was the Times) says this whole hurricane cycle is normal. In fact,
we've been doing better than the norm. So much for global warming causing
hurricanes.
By the way ... did you
read last week that some scientists are starting to
resign from a
much-ballyhooed global warming panel? These scientists are saying that
there is no substantive evidence that whatever global warming we do have is
caused by the actions of man. To the environmental crowd, this is heresy.
Can you imagine if all of
these leftist enviro-wackos had been around during the ice age? They would have
blamed that one on George Bush, too.
NOW -- I FEEL COMPELLED TO POINT OUT ....
That what we are seeing in New Orleans today is nothing
compared to what we might see if Islamic terrorists ever manage to realize their
dream of bringing a nuclear device into this country. We're seeing
tremendous losses and devastation in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. This
is nothing compared to what you might see if the radical adherents of the
wonderful, peaceful religion of Islam realize their dreams.
THE LATEST FROM CAMP CRAZY
So ... what is the Crawford Crackpot, Cindy Sheehan, up to
lately? Well, of course she continues to bask in the media spotlight as
Hollywood celebrities now make their pilgrimages to pay homage. She also
continues to post here thoughts at various places on the Internet.
Here is
what Sheehan had to say yesterday about others who have lost sons or daughters
in Iraq:
I have been silent on the Gold Star Moms who still
support this man and his war by saying that they deserve the right to their
opinions because they are in as much pain as I am. I would challenge them,
though, at this point to start thinking for themselves. Iraq DID NOT have
WMD's; Iraq WAS NOT linked to Al Qaeda and 9/11; Iraq WAS NOT a threat or
danger to America. How can these moms who still support George Bush and his
insane war in Iraq want more innocent blood shed just because their sons or
daughters have been killed? I don't understand it. I don't understand how any
mother could want another mother to feel the pain we feel. I am starting to
lose a little compassion for them. I know they have been as brainwashed as the
rest of America, but they know the pain and heartache and they should not wish
it on another. However, I still feel their pain so acutely and pray for these
"continue the murder and mayhem" moms to see the light.
Sorry, Cindy; but every time you open your mouth you do
more to prove to the world that you just don't know what you're talking about.
Obviously Iraq DID have WMDs. There are tens of thousands of dead Iranians
and Kurds to testify to this fact. Also, Iraq WAS most certainly linked to
Al Qaeda. The links are detailed in the 911 Commission report as well as
the David Kay report.
At any rate .. now this strange woman is saying calling
other mothers who have lost their children in Iraq "continue the murder and
mayhem moms." Incredible.
THE NAVY'S BLUE ANGELS. DON'T YOU JUST HATE THEM?
As if the maniacal rantings of Cindy Sheehan weren't
enough --- check this out. In a little over a week Cindy will be on her
way to Maine .. there to participate in a demonstration against, of all things,
The Blue Angels. If you're ready for yet another excursion into the dark
minds of the anti-military pro-appeasement crowd,
just check out this
announcement!.
By the way ... if you look at this announcement you will
see a reference to one of the purposes of the protest being to
to protest the obscene waste
of American tax dollars to stage these Blue Angels' multi-million
dollar extravaganzas. Now I don't know about this particular
air show, but the usual procedure is for the sponsors of the air show to cover
the costs of the performance by the Blue Angels. The air show sponsors
have to come up with enough cash to pay for the food and lodging of the entire
Blue Angel team plus the fuel costs for flying all of the aircraft, including
Fat Albert, to the site of the show. Several years ago I was privileged to
take a ride in Blue Angel No. 7 piloted by USMC Capt. (now Major) Len Anderson.
True to form, I immediately started catching hell from those who don't exactly
like my positions on various subjects for "wasting the taxpayer's dollars."
Then, as now, the expenses for that ride were covered by the sponsors of the air
show.
It will be no use telling
the organizers of this protest the truth ... they don't want to hear it.
YESTERDAY'S NOTES REGARDING WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION
Yesterday's Nuze contained information about evidence of
weapons of mass destruction uncovered in Iraq. We received many emails
asking for the sources of this information. So .. here you go. Just
click on these links and become a better-informed American!

http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=14295
Please make particular note of the article from the July 7,
2004 edition of USA Today. Here you will read that the United Nations was having
a bit of a fit because the United States secretly shipped 4000 pounds of
low-enriched uranium and about 1,000 highly radioactive items from Iraq to the
US a month earlier. The transfer of this material was made to keep it out
of the hands of terrorists.
"EVERYONE AGREES"
Yesterday I commented on a statement by a Face the Nation
reporter over the weekend that "everyone agrees" that all Iraqis hate the site
of American troops in their country. Here's a message I got from Iraq
yesterday:
I am currently serving with Multi-National Force-Iraq (MNF-I)
in Baghdad and I can assure you the media is not giving our efforts a fair
shake. Google reports the MNF-I website is in the Top 100 with over 1 million
hits per month. Go to
http://www.mnf-iraq.com/. There your will find "This Week in Iraq". This
is a compiliation of the "good news" stories from Iraq.
Thanks for getting out the truth,
Capt Collin Gilbert, USAF
Yeah ... as the NBC reporter said .... "everyone agrees."
LEAD
FOOT AL
Everybody with a
television set knows that Al Sharpton was down at Crawford on Sunday praying
with Cindy Sheehan and hamming it up for the cameras. The Welfare King was
sucking in the media limelight as much as he possibly could. But then we had a
little bit of an incident that would lead one to believe Al was in a little bit
of a hurry to get out of there.
The car hauling Sharpton
was clocked at 110 miles an hour on a 65mph Interstate, then was chased by
police for nine miles. Things got worse, too. Once the cops were able to pull
the car over, they arrested the driver for reckless driving and evading arrest
and impounded the car. So now Al has no ride. Texas isn't such a hospitable
place for a race warlord and media pimp. So what was Al's take?
He says the police are
embellishing the story. He acts like the driver was just leisurely pulled over
for speeding. Right. 110 in a 65 and the cops arrest him. Doesn't sound like
they impounded the car because he was just going 11 over. But the best part of
the story comes at the end.
Sheriff's deputies
offered Sharpton a ride, but he refused. So he said he would walk, hitching a
ride from a passerby to the airport. Can you imagine...you're on your way to
DFW and there is Al Sharpton....thumbing a ride, walking on the shoulder?
Would you pick him up?
Priceless.
REDNECK SCRAP BOOK
Everyone has something they like to do to
get their partner in the mood
for some lovin'... How is it possible that the
Redneck Scrap Book never runs out of
material?
READING ASSIGNMENTS
Yesterday I told you about a school in England where
students will be allowed to swear at teachers .. including dropping the "F"
bomb, but only five times in a class. Some of you didn't believe me ...
so here's your link.
Did you see the picture
of Al Sharpton and Cindy Sheehan kneeling at the cross at their Crawford
protest?
Check out this picture, which shows you just how invented the whole scene is.
Pat Buchanan
is calling for the impeachment of George Bush over the illegal alien issue.
It's a serious issue, but politicians from neither party are really serious
about doing anything about it.
Looks like Katrina just might finally push gas prices to actual record levels.
The record is over $3, set in 1981...and we haven't touched that record for
almost 25 years. Adjusted for inflation, of course.
Ann Coulter got the boot from a newspaper.
They call her "bombastic and mean-spirited." That's how you know you're doing
things right. Besides, does it matter what newspapers carry what columns
anymore? That's what the Internet is for.
The mainstream media has
no idea what's going on Iraq.
Scott Johnson says all they care about are casualties and applying the Vietnam
template.
Well, the media has
spoken....and now we know Supreme Court nominee John Roberts is a racist.
The Media Research Center reports.
Thomas Sowell likes to call out local communities
that take forever to approve economic development. Today, he talks about one
incompetent city government in California.
The left has convinced
many people that the case for invading Iraq was not sufficiently made by George
Bush prior to the war.
David Limbaugh says no way....Bush did his job,
even convincing most of Congress.
Phyllis Schlafly picks up where Pat Buchanan leaves off...taking
the GOP to task over illegal immigration. She says the right has to keep the
focus on the problems caused by illegal aliens.
What are John Roberts'
chances of being confirmed? Probably pretty good.
But Rebecca Hagelin says that if you ask the fringe left, he's an extremist.
After our F**king story yesterday, we just had to bring you this
list of double entendre towns, streets and villages from Britain. |
