ALL ROVE, ALL THE TIME

Well, they can't let go.  For the second straight day, the press corps at the White House endlessly beat up on Scott McClellan over Karl Rove. [watch here (realplayer) | read transcript]  There's blood in the water..  Even though they knew the press secretary wasn't going to tell them a thing, TV reporters like to get their question in for their own cameras.  So Terry Moran, David Gregory and John Roberts played up their spoiled child in the candy aisle routine for all it was worth.

The White House issued a statement standing by Rove.  This sent Democrats into an uproar.  They're demanding Rove be fired.  Have his security clearances yanked.  How dare he talk off the record to a reporter about somebody at the CIA! Here's a bit of a news flash for the left.  If everyone who talked off the record to a news reporter about supposedly classified material were fired, there would be nobody left in Washington D.C.   So for Democrats to act outraged over that is more than just a bit hypocritical.

So far, there's nothing new.  Rove came clean about what he said a long time ago, testified to a grand jury and has been told by the special prosecutor that he's not a target.  If he's not a target then that would mean that the prosecutor does not believe that Rove committed a crime. Time magazine has confirmed that Rove was one of reporter Matthew Cooper's sources on a piece he wrote identifying Valerie Plame as working for the CIA.  This has been translated by the Democrats and the media into a story whereby Karl Rove "outed" a CIA undercover agent.

Did Rove cross a line...screw up...make a mistake?
Yes
No
Don't Know
Here's something for you to think about ... assuming, of course, that you aren't so deeply entrenched in the liberal mentality that the idea of actually thinking about something is out of the question.  Where do we get the idea that Valerie Plane was an undercover agent for the CIA when Rove had his conversation with Time Magazine Reporter Matthew Cooper?  From Bush critic Joe Wilson and from the media, that's where.  At no time has there been any confirmation that Plame was covert.  If she wasn't covert, there is no crime.

Did Rove cross a line...screw up...make a mistake?  You can make that case.  His motive was to prevent Cooper from reporting false facts in a Time Magazine story about Joe Wilson.  The fact is that there is no evidence whatsoever that Rove broke any law.  For right now there is also no way Bush is going to give the left the satisfaction of firing him.  Right now, this is the #1 issue for the Democrats.

The Democrats are looking for a trophy.  They want a head on a stake that they can wave before the voters during next year's Congressional elections.

WHAT ABOUT THE NEW YORK TIMES

Don't forget, sitting in prison right now, protecting her source, is Judith Miller of the New York Times.  She, along with Matthew Cooper and Robert Novak, also wrote about Valerie Plame.  Novak has apparently cut some sort of sweetheart deal with the special prosecutor.  Miller is refusing to name her source to the special prosecutor.  So she's sitting in the hoosegow.

But why is she in jail?  It's been disclosed that Rove signed a statement giving anyone permission to speak about any contact he had over the Plame affair.  Matthew Cooper of Time cited that assurance when he finally rolled over and agreed to testify, avoiding jail.  It was also made easier when his employer released his e-mail contacts with Rove.  So there was no more source to protect.

But neither Judith Miller nor the New York Times is rolling over.  Couldn't the Times release Miller's notes just as easily as Time did Cooper's?  Of course.  But they won't.  And Judith Miller is sitting in prison.  Why?  Who are they protecting?  It couldn't possibly be Rove.  Because if it were, the Times would roll on him in a second.  How could they resist the chance to pile on against their nemesis, George W. Bush?

That's the real story here...and the mainstream media is missing it.  It's not Rove, it's who Judith Miller is protecting.  Could it be somebody else in the Bush White House?  Cheney's chief of staff, Scooter Libby, has come up.  Could it be Joseph Wilson?  Valerie Plame herself?  We'll probably know soon enough.

And don't forget a likely possibility:  that the prosecutor will wrap things up and nobody will be indicted.  Can you imagine the rage of the left then?

THE LEFTIST MENTALITY

In my book "The Terrible Truth About Liberals" I wrote that liberals seem to have a terrible time with some of the basics of public discourse, such as fact and logic.  Yesterday in my program notes I noted that federal tax revenues were up significantly.  Once again we've seen a growth in tax revenues following a tax cut, just as we did after the Kennedy and the Reagan tax cuts.  In another section of the Nuze I referenced articles which extensively detailed contacts between Iraq and Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden.

Those two sections of Nealz Nuze really didn't sit well with reader Wayne Green.  He sent an email in response that I thought you might like to read:

Subject:        You're lying again
Name:           Wayne Green
Email:          w******@earthlink.net

Message:
1) Two clicks to find this article from June 10th on improvements in tax revenues -- without the fake causation comments. http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory?id=837985

2) No Iraq Al-Qaida link... Just because you say it, doesn't make it true. There was no link between Al-Qaida and Iraq -- until we invaded.

Amazing.

First .. a quick read of the link that Mr. Green sent does only supports what I said about the shrinking budget.  The conventional leftist wisdom has been that tax cuts contributed to increased deficits, yet here is an article which says "The government ran a deficit of $35.3 billion in May, a little over half the imbalance of a year ago thanks to a continuing surge in tax revenues, the Treasury Department said Friday." The article also stated:  "The improvement in the country's balance sheet will help President Bush meet his campaign pledge to cut the deficit in half as a percentage of the total economy by 2009, the year he will leave office."  These are two points I made in yesterday's Nuze.  So ... once again we see increased tax revenues after a tax cut, exactly the opposite of what the left said would happen, and Wayne Green is just beside himself. He accuses me of lying .. but offers not one iota of proof.  Typical.

Then we have Green's second point ... "There was no link between Al Qaidi and Iraq --- until we invaded."  Here's the link to the article quoted yesterday.  If you read that article you will see that virtually every referenced link between Iraq and Al Qaeda happend before we threw Saddam out.  Green reads this and then writes that there was no link "until we invaded"?  Well ... here's yet more for Mr. Green to read.  Today's Wall Street Journal has an article by Claudia Rosett:  "Saddam and Al Qaeda.  There's abundant evidence of connections." Mr. Green, of course, will not read this article.  His entire political universe is dictated upon the premise that there was no such connection, and he isn't going to read anything to upset the balance.  He will continue to hold dear to the position that no connection existed because to do otherwise would be to betray his entrenched liberal mindset.

Tell me, my friends ... how in the world do you deal with liberals who ignore facts that are staring them right in the face in order to stand by their illogical dogma?  Well ... I'll tell you how.  You laugh at them, recognized that they were educated by government,  and print their emails.

HEATHER'S CORNER

(Musings from our intern, Heather Jackson)

It's not just a suggestion. It's a sign.

Being a native Floridian, we are often accused of not knowing how to drive. However tourists give Floridians a bad rap. Some of our tourist visit on a "3-month holiday" and are not used to driving on the right hand side of the road. No wonder we have bad drivers. Orlando is notorious for these "holiday" travelers.

Belinda asked me today to tell you all what the proper procedures for making a 4-way stop were. Since true Floridians CAN drive, I thought I would find out what the actual rules were in order to let the rest of you (above the Florida line) in on the secret. Failing to yield to the right of way is not only the second most common driving error (next to tailgating ), but it also causes around 16% of all car accidents. Here are two options to stopping at a 4-way stop.

Approach #1: Abiding by the law

1. When approaching a stop sign. You must actually "stop." Crazy, I know. And you may want to slow down when you see it to avoid giving yourself or your passenger whiplash.

2. If you are the first to stop at a 4-way stop sign, then you are the first to go. However, you may want to check all ways first. Not everyone understands "stop."

3. Assuming you stop at the same time as someone else, the person to the right is the one to move first.

4. If no one moves, the person in the right goes first.

5. If still no one moves, then you don't sit there until someone honks. You creep out into the road and hope to God no one decides to gun it.

6. If someone waves at you to go, they may be waving to say they are going first, so don't rush then either.

7. If you are the only person there, you may go after you stop.

Approach #2: The Redneck way

1. Pull to a complete stop and put the truck into park.

2. Everyone in the cab should jump out as quickly as possible to grab a beer from the cooler in back. The first person to spit on the ground, when he gets out, gets his choice of which warm beer he wants.

3. Then they must all dive back into the car and take off as fast as possible, regardless of who is in the intersection.

4. The person last to grab a beer must allow his girlfriend to moon the other drivers as the truck whips through the intersection as they simultaneously yell "Yeehaw" (a la Dukes of Hazzard.)

I'm just playing, but there are enough people here that know how to drive 35 MPH over the speed limit, but when it comes to stopping, it is a death defying feat.

So next time you feel like standing on the horn or flicking someone off at a stop sign, take a breath and realize, not everyone is as good of driver as you are and annoying someone isn't the best way to get them to share their warm beer!!

Well ... this ought to move The FairTax Book up the bestseller charts.  The Pope does not approve of the Harry Potter books.  Given the power, would the books be banned?

Byron York has an excellent piece on the Karl Rove/Valerie Plame affair.  Don't miss this one.  Once you read it, you can impress your friends with your knowledge of an issue no one cares about.

The BBC is taking their lumps for refusing to call Islamic terrorists "terrorists."  Michelle Malkin wonders what other words will fall to the will of political correctness?  Update:  The Beeb has reversed course.  They're going to call terrorists terrorists.
