AMERICA'S TRI-CAMERAL LEGISLATURE
Once again our Constitution, along with the basic
structure of our federal government, has been changed! Changed not by
Constitutional amendment, but by the machinations of politics on the floor of
the United States Senate.
Our Constitution envisioned and established a bi-cameral
legislature. We originally had the U.S. Senate which was established
to represent the interests of State Governments before the federal government.
The House of Representatives was established to represent the interests of the
citizens of the various states. The 17th Amendment change this structure
with the popular election of Senators. Now both the Senate and the House
represent the people, and the 50 states are left with no official representation
in Washington. This might explain why the federal government has become so
strong at the expense of the states.
May I now introduce you to the third branch of what has
become our tri-cameral legislature! The Supreme Court! Yes, in the
eyes of Democrats the Supreme Court is now merely another element of the
legislative branch of the Imperial Federal Government of the United States.
Senate Democrat Joseph Biden was on Face the Nation this past Sunday
pontificating on Bush's possible choices to replace Justice O'Connor. The
name of Janice Rogers Brown came up. Biden was asked how the Senate
Democrats could invoke the "extraordinary circumstances" clause on Judge Brown
right after they actually voted to confirm her to a seat on an appeals court.
Biden responded by reminding the television audience that appeals court justices
"don't get to make new law," meaning, of course, that Supreme Court Justices
do!
So .. there you go. Janice Rogers Brown might not be a
good nominee to the Supreme Court because the Supreme Court is a law-making
body! Now we have three! The Senate, controlled by the Republicans.
The House, again controlled by the Republicans. And now the Supreme Court,
controlled by the left, if not by Democrats. This is the only legislative
entity the left controls in Washington and that control must be maintained at
all costs!
Now, thanks to Senator Biden, you know what's at risk
here. Democratic control of the third house of the U.S. Congress.
THE
BUSH COURT
Biden's comments aside,
all indications are that groups on both the right and the left (the
aborto-obsessives vs. the socialists) are gearing up for one hell of a fight
over who will be George Bush's nominee to the Supreme Court of the United
States, or as it's known in the news business, SCOTUS.
Hearings could be held in
the Senate as soon as August or September. The goal would seem to be to put a
new face on the court before the new term begins in October. Who will it be?
Will it be Attorney General Alberto Gonzales? The right says he's not
conservative enough...the left says he tortures Muslims for sport. The first
woman on the court replaced by the first Hispanic? Who knows?
In case you're wondering
how many cracks Bush might get at nominating someone to be on the court, take a
look at the current justices and their ages:
-John Paul Stevens, 85.
-William Rehnquist, 80.
Probably the next to step down.
-Sandra Day O'Connor, 75,
has announced her resignation.
-Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 72.
-Antonin Scalia, 69.
-Anthony Kennedy, 68.
-Stephen Breyer, 66.
-David Souter, 65.
-Clarence Thomas, 57.
How many are going to
retire in the next 3 1/2 years? 1 more? 2 more? There are 4 justices over 70.
All we need are 3 more votes to go with Scalia and Thomas to reverse the Kelo
decision!
THE KARL ROVE PIŅATA
The left has a new
bogeyman: Presidential Adviser Karl Rove. Referred to by George Bush as 'The
Architect' of his two presidential election victories, Rove has been long-hated
by the left. Among the many reasons, of course, are that he wins. And since
Democrats have been on the losing end of Rove's triumphs, they're gunning for
his hide.
Enter the Valerie Plame
case. There isn't enough space here or anywhere to fully explain this endless
morass of nonsense, but in case you ignore the news from Washington, it goes
like this. Somebody told Robert Novak and/or some reporters that Joseph
Wilson's wife Valerie Plame was a CIA agent. It's apparently a crime to out a
covert agent. It's been said that someone in the Bush administration outed
Plame, and everybody has been pointing the finger at Rove.
Then the other day, Larry
O'Donnell on MSNBC says it's Rove. The leftist fringe gets all worked into a
lather until Rove's lawyer comes out and says, nope.....Rove talked to one of
the reporters in question, but didn't give a name. So anyway, get ready for the
anti-Rove media onslaught.
Right now, the press is
occupied with the G8 meetings...but it won't be long before Rove becomes the
lightning rod. In addition, expect the impeachment word to be thrown around
quite a bit, and the mainstream media will be right there, ready to lap it up.
You heard it here. The
'impeach Bush' press conference by the Congressional Black Caucus can only be a
few days away.
R.I.P ADMIRAL JAMES STOCKDALE
Most people will remember
James Stockdale as Ross Perot's running mate in 1992 when he famously said at
one of the debates "Who am I? Why am I here?" Stockdale passed away yesterday
at the age of 81.
But Stockdale should be
remembered for much more, including his heroism during the Vietnam War. After
being shot down in Vietnam, he spent 7 years in the Hanoi Hilton, four of which
were spent in solitary confinement and another two in leg irons. He had become
a leader of the other POW's there and the North Vietnamese didn't like this too
much. They tortured him repeatedly. His back was broken. His shoulders were
twisted out of their sockets. To avoid appearing in a propaganda film, he
mutilated himself with a wooden stool. To protest harsh treatment of prisoners,
he broke out a window and slashed his wrists.
He was awarded the Medal
of Honor in 1976.
SOUNDS LIKE A THREAT TO ME! SOUND LIKE A THREAT
TO YOU?
If you read yesterday's Nuze you'll remember that I
dropped a little bit in there about abortion. No .. it wasn't a discussion
about abortion ... it was a note about whether or not any Supreme Court is ever
going to make abortion illegal in this country again. Hint: It isn't
going to happen.
Well, as you would expect, that note in the Nuze certainly
brought some snakes crawling out from under their rocks. Web Guy forwarded
a few of the more raucous messages that he thought I might enjoy. One
interesting note: To any aborto-obsessive, if you are not in favor of
making abortion illegal that means that you are "pro-abortion." Well, I'm
not in favor of making tattoos and nipple piercing illegal either. Does
that mean I'm "pro-nipple piercing?" There seems to be a break in the
logical thought process here, but that's what you would expect when you're
dealing with someone suffering from an obsession.
At any rate .. I thought I would post one of the messages
I received yesterday ... everything but the complete email address. Give
it a read, it's really rather typical ... except, that is, for the threat.

I've just listened to my LAST Neil Booring-tz show. Its
Glenn Beck from now on. I thought I had finally found one Libertarian
with a SOUL too whom I could listen.
Now that I know your a Christian-phobe and support
baby-killing, I have no choice to not only turn off your show, but write
your sponsors and denounce you in any and all ways possible. This is a
shame because we see eye-to-eye 100% on economics.
For the record, you, and people like you will be
responsible when more abortion doctors catch bullets and clinics blow up.
Because if you take away the hope we can win on abortion peacefully, then
we have no choice but to resort to violence, now do we?
Or did you even think of that you idiot!
Abortion is not a stand-alone issue you dunce. Its very
similar to the 17th admendment, it leads to other societal ills. And if
you can't see that your not as smart or as moral as you think you are.
Good day, sir! |
Now ... it rather sounds to me like good old Michael here
is saying that "we", whoever "we" are, will just have to resort to shooting
abortion doctors if the Supreme Court doesn't come around to their way of
thinking. Nice Christian, don't you think? And yes ... we have
turned this email, complete with the full email address, over to the appropriate
federal authorities. This is something we do whenever an email contains a
threat of violence to anyone.
You ought to see some of the ones we didn't print.
HEATHER'S CORNER
Some musings from our intern:
Blame the
Boob Tube not its remote.
We heard
yesterday that a child who watches TV on a regular basis possibly uses his brain
less and therefore has a lower IQ. I beg to differ! I am by no means a genius,
but I think
the abundance of resources, including television, can help
expand a child's mind. (The
actual article suggests results
from a TV being in the child's bedroom. I seriously doubt the location of it has
much to do with it, rather the activities that could be substituted if one is
not present.)
If a child
has an older sibling, they are likely to speak later and less often than their
peers. After all, they have another kid around not only reading their mind, but
also speaking for them on many instances. A child also mimics their older
siblings, which helps them to potty train or learn to put on their clothes.
So where
does TV and
IQ fit in? If a child doesn't
have to speak for himself, he will not. The same goes for thinking. A huge
problem with TV programming is
the
educational value. There are
laws in place requiring a
broadcaster to serve educational entertainment at a specific time to children
under 16 years old, each week. That should not replace a parent's interaction.
As long as a child has a well rounded source of stimulation, then you will not
have to worry about their brain turning to mush.
We are a
nation that likes to over-analyze,
over-medicate,
over-diagnose
and over-react. It makes us feel better to transfer responsibility, especially
when we think a negative outcome has transpired. We can't continue to blame bad
parenting on nonsensical objects and situations. Besides, what can you teach the
next generation if they don't accept responsibility for anything?

He says Bush shouldn't have Rove in his administration unless he explains his
