Did Clark Howard really reach in his pocket to pay me $100 to kiss this Hillary Clinton facsimile? And did I do it? Tune in Monday morning for all the gory details and incriminating evidence. And yes .. I kept Clark's one hundred bucks. Here are some crappy pictures. They'll just have to hold you until we get the pictures from the professional photographer.

SATURDAY NIGHT

Really, I don't know where to start with this.  Last Saturday night my flagship radio station, Atlanta's News Talk 750 WSB, threw a little party for me at the Fox Theatre.  Senator Zell Miller, Evander Holyfield, Clark Howard, Scott Slade, Sean Hannity, Oliver North, Carol Costello from CNN, Monica Kauffman from WSB-TV, and Jamie Dupree joined me on stage, as did nearly my entire family!  Others like Dr. Robert Schuller, Rush Limbaugh, Jeff Foxworthy, Bobby Cox, Chipper Jones, Curtis Strange, and Ludacris sent their greetings by video.  I also received written congratulations from President George Bush, Governor Sonny Perdue, Lt. Governor Mark Taylor, and Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin. (I know I've forgotten someone here, but it's early and I'm not fully awake yet). And the entire evening was hosted by WSB TV's Chuck Dowdle and Atlanta Hawks play-by-play announcer Steve Holman.

So ... quite a few people have asked me what the best part of the evening was.  In spite of all of the people I've named who joined me on stage and who appeared by video, the absolute highlight was, without a doubt, the audience.  When the house lights finally were turned on I could finally see beyond the fifth row.  To my amazement the place was packed! Balcony too!  Thank you so much, my friends.  I am so honored that so many of you would take time from your weekend to spend two hours with us at the Fox.  Some of you even drove in from neighboring states for the event?  Again, thanks.   It's enough to actually make me be nice on the air ... for a while.

DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTS

Moving right along now to an intemperate thought.  Last week we honored a president, a Republican, who earned and deserves the credit for ending the Cold War.  Ronald Reagan also reinvigorated capitalism in America, creating a growing economy that still affects us all.  So ... this question.  Since JFK, what have Democrats had to offer that could match the performance of Ronald Reagan?  Carter?  Clinton?  Go ahead, tell me what they accomplished.  And don't give me this nonsense about the economy under Clinton.  The economy was improving when Clinton took office, and was on its way down when he left.  I'm waiting.

ARE WE READY TO LET IRAN INTO THE CLUB

The world is now being notified that it is just going to have to accept the Mad Islamic Mullahs of Iran into the nuclear club, the club comprised of nations with atomic weapons.  There is no longer any doubt that Iran is building these weapons, and the world just seems to yawn and ignore the situation.   This is a country of Islamic radicals. It could easily be said that Iran with nuclear weapons means terrorists with nuclear weapons.  The preemption concept won the day on Iraq.  There is no longer any danger from Saddam or from his continued development chemical, biological or nuclear weapons.  But in the case of Iran it looks like the appeasement crowd may well carry the day.  The west may be content to sit back and watch Iran develop nuclear weapons. Come on, folks.  Can you tell me you feel comfortable with that?  More to come on this one .. but it's certainly something to think about.

INCREASED VIOLENCE IN IRAQ

We're about two weeks away now from the return of sovereignty to Iraq.  Today there was a car bombing in central Baghdad that had the force of 1000 pounds of dynamite.  Thirteen people were killed.  Terrorists and those loyal to Saddam Hussein are doing all that they can to make sure that the transfer of power to the new government goes badly.  Reports are that the attacks are "increasingly sophisticated." Why would that be?  That would be because foreign countries are involved.  Syria and Iran certainly, and you might add Saudi Arabia and Jordan to the list.  These people do not want any government that might contribute to the spread of freedom and democratic processes in the Middle East.  The purpose is to discredit the coalition by demonstrating that coalition forces cannot protect the population of Iraq.  Only by accepting a return of the Baathists, or by turning over power to a group of Islamic mullahs, can the people become safe.

The truly sad thing here is that Democrats and their leftist fellow travelers are going to use this entirely predictable increase of violence in Iraq as evidence that Bush's policies are wrong, that Saddam should have been left in power.  The Democrats are perfectly willing to deny freedom and economic liberty to the people of Iraq, and to make the world a more dangerous place in the process, if it will mean gaining power inside the beltway.

TIME TO UNDO THE DAMAGE

What damage?  The damage that was done to the leftist cause by the recognition of the accomplishments of Ronald Reagan last week.    Watch the editorial pages and the opinion columns.  If people are left with positive feelings about Ronald Reagan those feelings could transfer to George Bush.  The mainstream media just can't allow this to happen.  Democratic victory in November may depend on the destruction of Ronald Reagan's image.  There are more than enough writers, reporters, editors, publishers and producers who are willing to volunteer for the job.

DEMOCRATS BORED WITH THE POODLE

Even though The Poodle is ahead of President Bush in some polls, there are reports in the media that many Democratic voters, officials and even some of The Soufflé's campaign staff are already having their doubts about the presumptive Democratic nominee.  Already?  There's still 4 1/2 months to go and they think their guy can't get it done.  Sorry, Democrats....you should of thought about that back in February and March.  Now you're stuck.  Stuck, that is, unless you can pull another one of those New Jersey scenarios.

From the beginning, the only reason people were voting for Kerry was because he wasn't Bush.  People were asked during the primaries what they were voting for, and more often than not, they had no idea  So really, the left is just finding out what's been out there all year...people are not voting for The Poodle, but against George Bush.  You see it on bumper stickers...'Anybody but Bush.'  Go ahead...ask some liberal you know why they're supporting Senator Kerry.  There's not a straight answer...even The Poodle doesn't know.

Here's another question you can pose to the Kerry supporters.  Careful, though.  After you ask this question you had better be prepared to duck.

"Since you're for John Kerry, why don't you share with me his greatest legislative achievement over 20 years in the U.S. Senate?  Oh, you can't really come up with anything?  OK then, why don't you just tell me one bill that he introduced and got passed ... or one policy initiative that he managed to get implemented?"

Of course, the more people find out about sKerry, the more they don't like.  That is if people can figure out where he stands.  From voting for the $87 billion before he voted against it, to being for the war, but against the way George Bush is waging it, The Poodle can't stake out a clear position.  They don't know where he stands.  Are liberals going to be so energized by John Kerry that they go running to the polls in  November just to vote against President Bush?  I doubt it.

Voters want to know what they're voting for...what exactly the candidate will do in his administration.  The Poodle hasn't really said in exact terms.  The reason?  He knows that his agenda, if he honestly articulated what he wanted to do, would be so unpopular his campaign would sink like a rock.  So like a lot of liberals, he has to be deceptive to get support for his agenda.

The bottom line: Democrats are finding out what we've known for months....The Poodle isn't that exciting.  Now they're talking about picking John Edwards for the VP slot.  He should be the one looking for a running mate.

LET POOR SADDAM GO

The International Committee of the Red Cross (which is separate from the American Red Cross,) has completely lost its mind.  Last night, a spokeswoman said that Saddam Hussein must be released from custody or charged by June 30 if the coalition is to conform to international law.  Release Saddam?  Let him walk?  Are these people nuts?  That is an interesting date, don't you think?  The International Red Cross is demanding Saddam's release on the very day that sovereignty is being handed back to the Iraqi government.  Mere coincidence, I'm sure.

Screw international law.  Isn't it interesting how these international organizations have all this selective outrage over the war in Iraq, only because it involves the United States?  If Saddam were being held by, say, the Saudi government, would they be so upset?  Doubt it.

And what about the idea of letting Saddam go?  Isn't the International Red Cross concerned about the hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children that Saddam slaughtered?  The rape rooms?  The (real) torture?  Gassing the Kurds?  Killing people with chemical weapons?  Nope...none of that matters.  The anti-American template must be followed...anything to make us look bad.

It's pathetic that an organization that is supposed to stand for relieving human suffering is now proposing letting a barbarian like Saddam out of captivity.  Idiots.

BILL CLINTON AND THE MEDIA

With President Reagan's funeral now over, the media is going to switch gears and get ready for the big Bill Clinton memoirs media onslaught.  Now pay close attention...you are going to see a stark difference in the coverage between the presidencies.

Whereas during this past week, commentators sneered about Reagan's policies on Iran-Contra, AIDS, and the deficit, Clinton will get a pass.  Keep in mind Reagan was no longer with us, and thus could not defend himself, but Clinton will be sitting right there hawking his book, and the media won't challenge him on anything.

For instance...how about Clinton's unilateral war in the Balkans?  The one he waged without U.N. approval, just like Iraq, except they're criticizing President Bush for it?  How about the genocide in Rwanda?  Will the media challenge him there?  Of course not. Will the media resurrect the campaign finance scandal?  No.  Will the media remind us that vital American missile technology was sold to the Chinese by big-time Clinton supporters after Clinton relaxed the regulations, and that Clinton got some big-time campaign donations as a result?  Not only no, but hell no.

The Clinton legacy rehabilitation tour will soon be underway.  Get ready...and be prepared to notice the double standard.  The only good thing about all of this is it is sucking the wind right out of The Poodle's campaign sails (by design, of course.)

BACK TO SATURDAY NIGHT

There is no way to acknowledge individually all of the people who sent me notes after Saturday night's event, but here are a few excerpts:

  • Thank you Neal!!  My wife and I had an incredible, uplifting time at your anniversery party Saturday night at the Fox.  I had the opportunity to speak with Ray Goff before the show, and he said he was over at your place before the show and spoke of how nervous you were about the night.  In all my years of listening to you, I thought to myself, "that is a first!".  But we dearly enjoyed you and all your guests!
  • We had such a good time at your celebration!
  • Eyes are not what they used to be, so we had to use binoculars to see you guys better.   Love your smile - it's a very genuine smile.
  • To everyone who organized Neal's 35th On-the-air celebration, kudos to all ! We were very entertained and informed, as all of you deserved the dozens of standing applauses we gave as dedicated listening and Boortz fans. The funniest moment of the evening went like this: Hannity: "I'll give you $1000 if you kiss (the Hillary blow-up)" Neal: "$1000 to kiss that?" Clark Howard: "I'll give you $100"... OMG! I'll never forget it....
  • Just wanted to say that my husband and I went to the show Saturday night at the Fox and we thought it was great, you do a great job each day and we want to thank you for all of your hard work and great entertainment you give to all of us.  God bless you and your beautiful family.

NASCAR HAS TO FIGURE THIS ONE OUT

I know you're not all NASCAR fans,  but a lot of you are.  I'm no fanatic, but I do enjoy going every once in a while.  Anyway ... yesterday the race at Pocono ended under yellow.  Once again the fans were throwing cans and whatnot on the track.  It's a race, dammit.  End the show racing, not following each other around the track like a bunch of pack mules.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Iran is building a nuclear bomb.  But who really cares, right?

John Fund asks "Is America going soft?"  When almost 50% of the voters would put someone like John Kerry in office, the answer can't be anything other than "yes."

This week we should hear details from the feds about a "registered traveler" program to help people who are willing to take a fee and submit to an extensive background check the ability to get through airport security a bit quicker.  Count me in.

Here's an interesting proposition from Harvard Professor Alan Dershowitz: when it comes to torture, the U.S. should just make a list of what torture is allowed and what torture is not, like Israel does.

Iraq's interim president is opposed to tearing down Abu Ghraib prison.   His reason?  It cost over $100 million to build, and why waste money?  Sounds like the media is more worried about Abu Ghraib than even the Iraqis are.

The U.N. is none too happy about a new book by current or former employees that details just what the organization is like behind the scenes.  It's about time.

Iran is saying they're going to be a nuclear power, and the rest of the world should just deal with it.  Perhaps we should deal with it...by dropping a few bombs and removing their nuclear capabilities.

What would Ronald Reagan have done had communism had a relgious bent like Islamic terrorism?     Diana West explores the question.

Multiculturalism is really anti-Americanism...and it discourages new immigrants from participating in American culture, as Suzanne Fields explains.

What will President Bush's strategy be for a second term?  Medicare? Social Security? Taxes?  Robert Novak says it almost certainly won't be Medicare.

In the aftermath of Abu Ghraib, Professor Mike Adams offers this apology to the Arab world. Not to be missed.

Islamic law seems to condone the mutilation of corpses of non-believers....   Jeff Jacoby wonders when more moderate Muslims are going to rise up against the extremists.

We need more judges like this:  a judge ordered some college protestors to actually get a job.  Imagine that.

This should make parents feel safer...a school bus driver has resigned after letting the kids (as young as 11) drive the bus.  Come to think of it, they probably couldn't do any worse than a lot of adults behind the wheel.
