All of those leftists and Saddam appeasers who thought that they finally had the issue they could ride to victory in 2004 are now off somewhere licking their wounds. The great Paul O'Neill roar turned out to be more like a whimper. Let's review what we heard last weekend vs. what we are hearing today: 1. O'Neill said that Bush was disengaged at Cabinet meetings. A blind man in a room full of deaf people. First .. that doesn't make sense. A blind man can hear, and deaf people can communicate .. but never mind. Now we have O'Neill saying that he wishes he hadn't said that in the first place. 2. A big deal was made over O'Neill's revelation that the Bush Administration was making plans for an invasion of Iraq almost as soon as they moved into the White House. Oops. Then we learn that the Clinton Administration had been making the very same plans, and that in fact those plans were required after a law was passed in 1998 making regime change in Iraq an integral part of American foreign policy. 3. Then we learn that O'Neill is going to vote for Bush in 2004, because "I don't see anyone who is better prepared or more capable." So ... how much did the big Paul O'Neill story last? Four days, wasn't it? THE LIBERALS ARE COMING: AL FRANKEN SIGNS WITH RADIO NETWORK They have no name for their network yet, and not even a launch date, but the liberal Democrat's wet dream has now come true: Al Franken will be getting a talk show. Progress Media has signed Franken to a one-year deal to host a show opposite Rush Limbaugh from Noon to 3pm eastern time. Talk about faith in your host....just a one-year deal. They have exactly one station signed up to air the show. Most successful shows have well over one hundred stations .... and Al has one. I guess you have to start somewhere. Of course, the one thing missing in all of this is an audience. To survive, they will need listeners...something liberal talk show hosts have never been good at attracting. Why? Because their opinions are not popular, and talk radio listeners aren't interested. Imagine that! The free market rejecting the left-wing rantings of a liberal Democrat. In addition, the same network plans to air a show called "Champions of Justice," hosted by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. RFK Jr. is widely recognized as one of the most brain-dead members of Congress. This one ought to be quite entertaining. If he takes phone calls, he's screwed. Let's cover just one more time why liberals fail in talk radio. First, listening to talk radio is an individual exercise. Liberals are at war against the concept of individuality. Individuals call talk shows, not groups. Secondly; the liberal agenda cannot withstand exposure to logic or fact. About the first time Al Franken regales us with stories of Bush's warnings of an "imminent threat" from Saddam Hussein, some caller is going to ask Franken to back it up with one direct Bush quote. He can't. Credibility lost. Then Franken will spout the line about the rich not paying their fair share of taxes. Someone will call with the statistics. Franken won't be able to defend his position. More credibility lost. Do you want to have some fun? Call Franken's show on its first day and ask this simple question: "What is the maximum percentage you believe that any American should ever have to pay in federal income taxes." For some reason leftists are completely unable to answer this question. It should still be interesting to see what happens. According to Franken, his plan is "alter the political landscape, drive this radical, right-wing president from office and stand as a beacon for ordinary Americans who work hard and play by the rules." That's a mighty tall order for one radio station, Al. JIMMY SET TO SUPPORT DEAN According to the Dean campaign, former President Jimmy Carter will offer support to Howard Dean's candidacy at a joint appearance in Plains, Georgia on the eve of the Iowa caucuses. Apparently, the Deanie babies think this will push them over the top in Iowa and help defeat Richard Gephardt. But what is the real value of these endorsements anyway? Already, Al Gore and Bill Bradley have endorsed Dean, and that hasn't made him the runaway favorite in Iowa.. Maybe it just comes down to what the candidate stands for, and people aren't being swayed by some out-of-work politician telling them who they should vote for. Besides...isn't there some third-world dictator Jimmy Carter should be kissing up to? I hear Qadafi is getting lonely these days. Maybe Carter should go to Iran and do for us there what he did for us when he stuck his uninvited snoot into Bill Clinton's relationship with North Korea. Thanks for that one, Jimmy. Now we have another nuclear madman to deal with. No, I'm not talking about you, Mr. Nuclear Engineer .. GIVE 'EM HELL, ZELL Senator Zell Miller said yesterday that he will campaign at President Bush's side throughout the 2004 campaign. One of the Zell's first duties will be to introduce Bush at a $2,000-a-head fundraiser tomorrow here in Atlanta. Predictably, the left is aghast, as evidenced by the sour grapes from Georgia Democrat Bobby Kahn: "Senator Miller spent four decades building the Democratic Party in Georgia. He's undoing all of that in the twilight of his career, and it's a sad thing to watch." What a crybaby. Anybody ever notice that when you agree with liberals, you are "voting your conscience" and "making a tough choice." But when you don't go their way, you become a "sad thing to watch." What's really sad to watch is just how the left has driven the Democratic party into the ground since the Clinton years. What was once an overwhelming majority, is now, as Miller's book title suggests "A National Party No More." You'd think the liberals would look in the mirror and realize that their political correctness and class warfare aren't selling in Peoria anymore. Fat chance. As Ronald Reagan famously said, "I didn't leave the Democratic party, the Democratic party left me." Of course, Zell has no intention of switching parties. That's the best part; it makes all of this so much fun to watch. HOME INVASION ... THREE DEAD We had a home invasion robbery near Atlanta last night. The predator broke into one home and stole a car. Then he broke into another home where he got into a fight with the occupants, a 55 year-old man and his 17 year-old son. The homeowner and his son didn't have a gun. The predator did. The man and his son are dead. The predator was later tracked into the woods by police canine units. He shot one of the dogs and the police responded with gunfire of their own. The predator, thank God, is dead. I don't know why the homeowner didn't have a gun in his home. Perhaps he believed some of that idiotic nonsense about guns being used more frequently to kill family members than to ward off criminals. Maybe he used to live in Chicago where it would have been illegal for him to even own a handgun, unless, of course, you're a high-level politician or friend of the mayor. I hope some of you anti-gun nuts read this bit today. Here's a predator who had a gun, and a homeowner who didn't. The homeowner is dead. So is his son. What great work you anti-gun people are doing. Are you proud? No ... I don't know about the condition of the dog. I'll update you. But for now let's just rejoice in the death of the predator. DAMNED IF YOU DO, DAMNED IF YOU DON'T Earlier this week we learned that President Bush is going to visit Atlanta on Thursday to participate in the ceremonies celebrating what would have been Martin Luther King's 75th birthday. Bush intends to lay a wreath at the King Center during his visit. Every president has done this, with the exception of Ronald Reagan. Now we learn that the event organizers in Atlanta are upset about the president's visit. They don't like the disruptions caused by the Secret Service. They're griping that Bush invited himself, and they're upset that there's going to be a fund raiser later in the day in Atlanta. One of Atlanta's more off-the-wall race warlords, State Representative Tyrone Brooks, says that Bush's visit is "quite insulting." For the record ... every one of the other presidents who visited the King crypt to lay a wreath came without a formal invitation. Now ... let's flip the situation here. What if George Bush didn't visit Atlanta on the 75th anniversary of MLK's birth? We all know what would happen, don't we? The civil rights warlords would be citing Bush's absence as evidence of his disdain for blacks and the legacy of Martin Luther King. Some of the more rabid warlords would be screaming racism. Oh well ... it gives Tyrone something to rant about for a while. I guess that's a good thing. Keeps him off the streets. READING ASSIGNMENTS Howard Dean, Weasley Clark.
