"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that justifies it."

THE POVERTY SCAM

The Obama administration has decided that it wants to create a new way to measure poverty. The new Obama system would essentially be the same in that a family would be considered "poor" if its income drops below a certain threshold. But the difference in Obama's new system would be the addition of a "built-in escalator clause." This is described as measuring poverty income threshold in direct proportion to any rise in living standards for average Americans.

As Robert Rector points out, this means that under Obama's new measurement ... "poverty can be reduced only if the incomes of the 'poor' are rising faster than the incomes of everyone else." Here's another interesting result of Obama's new poverty measurement. Countries like Bangladesh and Albania will actually have lower poverty rates than the United States. Haiti will probably have the lowest poverty rate!

Here's something I've been saying for decades on the air ... something nobody has ever been able to refute, though many have tried. Listen up:

You could have:

  1. $15,000,000 in a checking account
  2. A paid-for $5,000,000 home
  3. Eight exotic automobiles valued at $250,000 each
  4. A 32-oz Aquafina bottle full to the top of diamonds
  5. A different $500,000 watch for every day of the year
  6. $16,000,000 in cash stashed in a colostomy bag hanging on your belt
  7. A Gulfstream G-650 fueled and ready at KATL to take you anywhere in the world you might want to go to get away from Barack Obama
  8. A bag of chips

You could have all that ... and the Imperial Federal Government could KNOW that you have all that ... and you could STILL be classified by the Feds as "living in poverty."

What others are saying

  • You couls have all that ... AND a bag of chips?
  • MeFein
of course. i was saying that because people don't think at all when they make those statements. they don't think of the people at all, or they say that only black brood mares are poverty stricken. all their doing is preaching to the choir, using 1/1000 of their brains and not thinking about what they just said.

of course, the government has laws against charity work, so there you go.
  • re. charity
The problem with charity is that it is associated with stigma and usually requires some modification of behavior by the giver in order for it to continue.
Welfare is an anonymous check in the mail that does not require you to stop doing the stupid things that made you poor in the first place.
Its all about stigma. Even this whole ObamaCare swindle is about providing free healthcare to the "poor" so that they can produce the same insurance card as the rest of us at the nicest hospital in town.
Obama wants everyone to be treated the same even though half of us are busting our butts to pay the ticket for the other half.
  • Further proof that Team Zero hasn't read basic economics texts
All this was laid out in quite eloquent terms in 1817 by David Ricardo's "The Principles of Political Economy and Taxation".

He wrote (and I assume you libtards will not grasp any of this as it contains three-syllable words): "by means of wealth one can command more of the necesseties and enjoyments of human life; but as the general stock out of which each man's welath is drawn, is diminished in quantity, by all that any individual takes from it, other men's shares must necessarily be reduced in proportion as this favoured individual is able to appropriate a greater quantity to himself."

Funny, I seem to recall that the current Team Zero economic advisor (Summers) had grasping this same concept during his term at HBS.
  • welfare
T-shirt, they go to a charity. Welfare is an unethical wealth transfer, so a true libertarian would want them off of welfare as soon as possible, right?
  • Comment
It was the bag of chips that threw the poor chap into the poverty line.
  • Poverty Scam
I still do not know why so many, including those in government, equate income with wealth. Wealth is made up of assets, or rather net assets. It has nothing to do with income. Income can help one become wealthy (so long as it's not taxed endlessly), but a high income does not automatically entail wealth. It's what one does with it that determines wealth.

The government would look at a billionaire who earns no income as impoverished. On the same token they'd look at one who earns 300,000 per year and blows it all on useless junk and piles on a burden of debt as someone who is wealthy. I guess that's one of the perils of having an income tax.
  • our elected officials
remind me of a story,Tramp..a man too lazy to work, not ashamed to beg, generally from the town of booze, they regularly go to the bar to practice their trade.they travel the country indulging in whiskey and sponge an easy living from the humbugged public.they use plausable tales to best meet their needs.what are signs of a tramp ? involuntary notions of the hand usually palm side out or touching of the head repeatedly,a smirk or repeated dialogue mmm, mmm, ahhh, ahhh,.what is a tramps grip ? a tramps grip is a hold upon anything of cash value,a tramp will not release their grip even when confronted by the proper owner but instead will refer the owner to some other fellow.a tramp is usually discovered traveling from east to west but do not be fooled for he has no value be it iron, brass, silver or gold.
  • Bulldada
you left something off your post.

The left and the right have different ideas of what "compassion" is. The libs think compassion is how many people they can put on welfare, and the conservatives define it as how many people they can get off of welfare.

you forgot "...and the conservatives define it as how many people they can get off of welfare no matter that they're unemployed, homeless with their families, and are starving to death."
  • Bulldada
Well put bulldada, I couldnt have said it any better. Have a good day
    Semper Fi
  • Are you really that paranoid?
If you think the government doesn't already know that then you need to move on to modern times people.
  • Russian reporter
Neal: could you please repeat the story about the Russian reporter who came to the states to do a report on poverty, his report was basically “there is no poverty, just laziness” and it wasn't aired because the media didn't like he reoprt
  • what a great way for Democratics to justify ever increasing reliance on the government.

I can already hear the campaign rhetoric: "We have higher poverty than Haiti, Ethopia, etc ... So, we need more government to combat this terrible problem!"
  • Compassion
The left and the right have different ideas of what "compassion" is. The libs think compassion is how many people they can put on welfare, and the conservatives define it as how many people they can get off of welfare.
