For your information Sir, I happen to be a conservative. I despise Al Gore and all the "political" hype propagated by both liberal and conservative factions. However, unlike you, I don't get my science from tabloids and blogs, but I do occasionally respond to blogs like this one when I see gross misrepresentations. I actually have an academic background in climate science and stay current with the "peer reviewed" literature. By your comment that not one academic bothered to question his statistics is blatantly false. You have no idea what the "peer review" process is and what it takes to get research published. No one puts more scrutiny of research to be published than the scientific community. BTW, the Mann paper was published in 1998, not 1999. Mann did make a few math errors which were all withing standard error bars and the slight corrections that were subsequently made did not change the outcome of the research one bit. Since then there have been several similar papers published which all uphold the Mann, et al findings. On the other hand, the two nitwits that caused the controversy were not even climate scientists; McIntyre a Mathematician and McKitrick an Economist. Don't confuse political activism about science with the real science.

It's a shame that peer review is now assumed to mean proven rather than not obviously wrong. There's a disturbing trend in academia that became obvious with Michael Bellesiles Arming America, where an obviously slanted piece of research was uncontested and awarded right up until he was fired in disgrace largely due to the efforts of a lone blogger. Mann foisted the hockey stick upon academia in 1999 and not one academic bothered to question his statistics or methods. Just as with Arming America, it took bored retired statistician to ask Mann questions like how he produced the graph or what data he used. Scientists are supposed to be skeptical of claims that fly in the face of the evidence (eg midieval warm period). They're not supposed to assume a paper is correct just because it's been peer reviewed.FOE3J

Making bogus claims is the wrong thing to do. What if there is some avoidable damage that man made GW is about to cause. The GW crowd used anecdotes to support GW, then changed the name to climate change when the anecdotes didn't fit. They arrogantly dodge the debate by coining the cute term denier. If your case is so rock solid, spare the name calling and humor me and explain it. They have no credibility. At this point, if I am ever harmed by man made GW, I am coming after Al Gore for turning it into his own personal money maker and failing to accomplish anything for the rest of us.

The environment does not need the kind of protecting being suggested by Gore and the global warming crowd. We've been working on cleaning the air for decades and doing very well thank you.

Nothing that has been suggested by Copenhagen or anyone else in this weird new religion, would do even 1 degree of difference. The reason is that mankind is just not that important to the earth, she'll do just fine without our help. Weather trends to the earth consist of millenia, not 150 years of puny data.

That was Mann. He'll give you his data if you ask really nicely and happen to agree with his point of view... or if congress makes him. Phil's data is the temperature record after it has been "corrected" by his overworked fortran programmer. It agrees with the GIS dataset that is based on the "raw" data that has been "corrected" by NCDC. Mann's hockey stick was used to make the MWP (midieval warm period) disappear. He used Phil's and NASA's temperature record to calibrate his trees from 1960 to 1990. That's why all the tree ring proxies agree during those years. Before and after the calibration period, the tree rings revert back to what they actually are: noise. That's why the shaft of the stick is so flat and the MWP disappears. The science is settled.

I just support the environment. I dont like huge mega businesses destrooying it to make a profit. I like to spend my free time outside so I dont like to see it dirty.

If you read the interview, rather than summaries on blogs, you'll find that he says there has been warming over the last 15 years, but at marginal significance. He also notes that is not unusual or at variance with AGW theory, which works over decades, not years. I actually liked the interview since it's rare to see an AGW supporter acknowledge the uncertainties in the theory.

And much of the data is public no matter how much you guys say that is isn't. All of NASA's satellite data is public as is much of the temperature record.

Fourth, quite frankly, I could even care less what temps these people say it has been over the last 20 years. There a joke. How the hell can you get an average global temp that you can compare to the prvious 100 years.

They have screwed around with the weather stations. They have moved the weather stations from rural (where it is cooler) to city areas (where buildings and concrete attracts more heat) to skew the data. They eliminated other stations where the temps didn't give them a reading they wanted. It's all a waste and a joke.

Now that we have had one of the snowiest winters her in the east and snow in the south, Some of my misguided friends are spinning the term manmade global climate change to justify the colder temeratures. Can't have it both ways. Either way they are blaming George Bush and the evil businesses.
