Now you're not going to believe this; but Atlanta's rapid rail agency has come up with a new name for the rail line smack dab into the middle of Atlanta's Asian Community. How does "The Yellow Line" sound to you? Can't wait until we learn the name of the line into the predominantly black Southside.

Rep. John Murtha passed away from complications from a surgery. Does this change the political landscape, particularly for Obamacare?

Lawmakers supporting cap-and-trade are trying to link clean energy with the current push to pass a jobs bill.

Hillary Clinton says that a nuclear-armed North Korea or Iran isn't as great a threat to the U.S. as al Qaeda and allied jihad groups.

Democrats in the House admit that they are going to have a tough time selling the American public on increasing taxes for the evil rich.

There's a huge mismatch between Americans' desire for low taxes and high government services.

There's an entitlement crisis approaching. Quickly. News flash: we aren't going to be able to tax our way out of this one.

I don't know how many other ways I can 'splain this to you, so I am going to let someone else do it. Obama's "jobs bill" is just as bad as his stimulus plan and you can start with this phony idea of capital gains and small businesses.

When Barack Obama is trying to save his healthcare plan, who does he turn to? Clinton aides who tried to pass Hillarycare.

Here's the RFK statement I've been referring to .. this is from 15 months ago: Global warming means no snow or cold in DC.

A question for you to consider ... Why are liberals so condescending?

Obama's labor secretary is coming down hard on companies for any violations of labor law but proving remarkably lenient on the abuses of organized labor.

Connecticut has a new website that tracks every penny in government state spending. Take a look at some of the pork they have found.

Republicans in South Carolina are heeding Sarah Palin's advice and merging tea party resources with their own.

Obama wants the government to improve child nutrition and he wants to start by banning sugary drinks and snacks from vending machines.

While on duty, a Muslim bus driver in the UK pulls over and starts praying in the aisle.

Another story from the UK about Muslim school children celebrating the Sept. 11 hijackers as "heroes" in the classroom.

Apparently Sarah Palin thinks it's okay to call people "retards" if you are Rush Limbaugh.

Exercise: you're doing it wrong.

What others are saying

  • Why are liberals so condescending?
Thomas Sowell wrote an excellent book explaining this phenomenon: THE VISION OF THE ANOINTED.

    Highly recommended.

    -
  • marta
they should call the west line 'negro' line let see how that will stand. Al sharpton will be down here in a heartbeat.
  • yellow line
I am asian and not offended by yellow line. When is the last time you see an asian on Marta? They drive around in BMWs and Lexuses, just go to Buford Hwy and see. We don't believe in government handouts either.
  • "How does "The Yellow Line" sound to you?"

Ironically, it sounds a lot like the Washington, DC METRO system, whose "yellow line" offers a stop at at "Gallery Place-Chinatown." If there was an uproar about this 30 years ago when the METRO was planned and built, it's certainly died off now. Maybe folks should stop over-thinking things?

Renaming the lines will certainly reduce confusion and make the system easier to navigate. How easy has it been for people -- especially visitors -- to get on a train headed for North Springs, when they really wanted to head toward Doraville?

METRO may not be perfect, but it's certainly more of a model for MARTA to follow.
  • RE:South Side Nickname
substitute Asians for the.... ahem ... NE line....
  • Clarification for Gavey
I think he put the wrong emphasis in this line: "If not for them, we might not have woke up in time to keep things from getting worse."

Maybe I should have said woke up in time to attempt to keep things from getting worse.

    The effort is ongoing.

Can't believe I'm having to explain that...
  • "trying" to be funny Gavin?
WHERE did I stick up for Obama. I said they were both progressives, do I have to spell it out: that is not a compliment.

Yes it has gotten worse, unemployment up, business unrest crippling future growth and hiring, now we're in two wars, possibly a third or fourth if you look at Yemen.

I suppose you think it's gotten better???? Did Bush start the ball rolling? Absolutely! Has Obama taken that ball and slam dunked it? DUH

It's just crap on top of crap, does the top smell better than the bottom?

My whole point is the blame Bush crap is not helping because it infers there is a difference and there ISN'T.

I blame it on the progressives.
  • South Side Nickname
    MARTA, of course!
    Moving Africans Rapidly Through Atlanta
  • Yikes.
You've really decided to go all in with the anti-Palin thing, haven't you, Neal? I guess it's true what they say....you either love her or hate her but nothing in between.
  • well.............how 'bout...............................
atlanta rail?????......if they call one section the YELLOW LINE.....the other might be called the WELFARE LINE.....

    racist??? nope.....gubmint edjukated!
  • @Joyce
Well you're entitled to your opinion, Joycie, but I disagree with your claim that things did not get worse after Bush left office. Good for you, though, sticking up for Obama like that!

    Next!
  • Although this IS funny
    http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2010/02/bush_miss_me_yet_billboard_is.html

However, the blame Bush crap really does need to stop because THEY ARE THE SAME!!!!!!!!!! How has anything changed? It's gotten worse if anything but still you can't keep blaming the image in the mirror.
  • reading assignment ... why are liberal so condescending
Fascinating read. Take the time to read the discussion with the author too. Lot of good points made from all over the political spectrum.

    Gerard Alexander is my hero!
  • Gavin
Maybe it's because they are both progressives. Which has been discussed adnauseum.

I do thank the Bush Administration for one thing. If not for them, we might not have woke up in time to keep things from getting worse.

    Next!
  • @Nut
"Sounded like a comparison to me."
The ony way you could possibly believe that is if you didn't realize the Bush administration was liberal. Are you admitting that you didn't realize this simple, basic fact? Go read up and get back to us when you figure that out, then YOU can address the subject of my question to YOU, which You dodged: do you think liberals like bush are condescending?

Blame bush? You fail on that accusation. How about practicing what you preach, sport, and you try staying on topic instead of making a lame attempt to get out of answering my question by accusing me of something that didn't happen. Typical.
  • Republicans have issues too
    http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/stateroundup/article1071784.ece

If this were a Dem, I'm 100% sure you'd find a write up about this in Nealz Nuze
  • @gv
Sounded like a comparison to me.

Instead of addressing the subject attempt to somehow blame Bush.

    Typical.
  • Vending machines
I hate misleading headlines. You left out a very important word. "School"
  • MARTA
There are only so many named colors. Maybe if MARTA never intends to become more than a covered moving sidewalk then they can avoid using any color names that might offend someone.
  • Why are liberals so condescending?
that's like the pot calling the kettle black, isn't it?
  • @Nut
It wasn't a comparison -- I was providing an example of a group of condescending liberals: the Bush administration. Do you agree or disagree with the author who accuses the liberal Bush administration of condescension? I think he summed them up very well. I trust we will hear from the angry cabal of liberal haters in here with their searing, seething, hate-filled commentary on that low-down, good for nothing bunch of Bush admin liberals....

Liberal haters? Let's hear why you hate George Bush and his fellow liberals! Come on, haters.... vent!
  • Republicans / Tea Party Merger
The Republicans should fix their own party, instead of hijacking another one. I threw up in my mouth when I heard that Sarah Palin, another celebutician was going to start sniffing around Tea Party gatherings. We see how having a celebrity for a president is working out for us...
  • Murtha
It's not crude, is it, to comment that Murtha got his infection from a surgery performed in a government hospital?
  • MARTA "yellow" line
The article says that MARTA employs 13 people in their diversity office. Holy cow! I'll do their job for a lot less.

    "Don't say anything to anybody.
    Offend everyone equally."
  • Why are liberals so condescending?
I imagine that comes from speaking to their constituents on a regular basis.
  • @Gavin Volare
You are comparing an ideology group (ie liberals) to a relatively small group (ie Bush Administration who if you have not noticed is no longer in power).

The Bush administration does not speak for me. And for what it's worth my biggest problem was that they acted like a bunch of democrats. Starting wars, uncontrolled spending, 'nation building'.
  • Excuse not to do anything
Interesting that Hillary says Al Qaeda is a bigger threat than North Korea. Which means she must think North Korea is pretty friendly, because she and the Obama administration aren't doing anything about either threat, and they're coddling the terrorists we DO catch!
  • she's got it wrong
Hillary Clinton says that a nuclear-armed North Korea or Iran isn't as great a threat to the U.S. as al Qaeda and allied jihad groups.

the financial crisis is the main threat.
and you've got military people saying so.
    http://www.gazette.com/articles/mullen-47273-military-time.html

and national intelligence people who say that.
    http://articles.latimes.com/2009/feb/13/nation/na-security-threat13

but we don't wanna get painted with the "wealth envy" brush, so, let's ignore the facts and go to war with every one of them!!!
  • @Joyce ... that funny feeling you get
It's not me - I be keepin' my hands to myself.

    ask Ivan, I think he's onto sump'n.
  • Murtha Died
Rest in peace, funny man. Big shoes to fill indeed. Maybe Cynthia McKinney could move to Pennsylvania.
  • Porky's Dead
Murtha's dead. What will his district do without all the pork he brought in?
  • Republicans/Tea Party mergers
I'd like to see more Republican groups adopt the fiscally conservative and Constitutionally based ideas of the Tea Party. It would be good to merge the two, but only if the Republicans can bring themselves to fully support the Constitution and pass actual laws to decrease federal spending by cutting programs without regard to the whining masses that will protest such cuts. I recall a promise made by Republicans back in the '90s to do away with the U.S. Dept. of Education thereby leaving education to the individual states. I'd still support such a cut and blame the Republicans for not carrying through on this promise and many others. They tried to play nice with the Democrats back then and it just didn't work. When the Republicans realize that they must promote fiscal conservatism AND act on it, they will regain some respect from the electorate. The Republicans should further distance themselves from some of the moral issues of the day and back away from appearing as Christian based. I'd like to consider myself a Republican again but I haven't seen them put forth the ideas and actions that focus on fiscal conservatism.
  • Why do I get the feeling...
with all the things suddenly popping up again, that there is something going on behind the scenes, and all the recent activity is another smokescreen...
  • Why are liberals so condescending?
Good question. Why was the Bush administration so condescending? Discuss.
  • Boortz are you sure?
Uhhhm Rush was pointing out that absurdity of the libs by using that term for one hour on his show. Sorry you missed that part. Palin knew the fact that you apparently don't. Or is there a transcript of Rush from another time?

    For the rest of you:

Congratulations in falling into the trap so expertly laid by Rush. It's an old gag from his show.

Can't wait for November. How does it feel to get snowed by the community agitator?

Hope and change? Yesterday I saw some guys hoping to get some change.

More and more people are hoping for change. Actual coins, not empty words of change.
  • Condescending?
Many liberals are not only condescending but are down right vicious if you dare be even the least bit conservative. I was once blasted for mentioning that I thought I was fiscally conservative. Sheesh.

For that segment who consider themselves the champions of peace, love and understanding, liberals can be down right hateful.

And so I ask again, why do liberals hate so much?
  • Capital Gains & Credit for hiring
OTR made a good point, the main people that would gain from this are the administrations buddies, taking grants from the government, especially "green" studies, get the process all set up, then sell the idea - to the Chinese! They get millions, plus a $5000 credit for each employee, only pay 15% tax, fire everyone and retire.

You can bet, they will always look out for their own.
