In case you missed Obama's speech last night, you can read it for yourself.  Didn't get the chance to count how many time he refers to himself.

  • Tshirt doc and capitalism2
Doc,your definition of capitalism 2 is actually the definition of fascism,is it not? That is..privately owned and government controlled.
  • @Twisted
I do not look to govt at all to solve my problems. My point about the "free market" was that AT&T has used govt regulation to keep their competition down. So it is not truly a free market.

I usually vote Repub or Liber and have never voted Demo but you really can't sit there and point your finger at the Dems and say Big Govt is all their fault. Repubs are just as guilty. They may talk a good game but they have not delivered.
  • Obama's "I's" compared to GWB
In last night's speech Obama mentioned personal pronouns ("I", "I'll", "I've", me) 118 times. Here are similar results for George Bush: 2008 - 41 times; 2007 - 36 times; 2006 - 38 times; 2005 - 32 times. I could go further back but I think this makes the point on this narcissistic, incompetent egomaniac we now have in office.
  • "Happy Cows"
I have been to commercial dairy operations and do not agree with your last link. The animals there are treated humanely and we are using them for what they can provide us - milk products. When they are finished with that job, they go onto their next job - dog food and other consumables. We do the same thing with people (anyone who works to produce something they can't enjoy), what's so wrong with doing it to animals?

You can count on them, especially after what is likely coming in November.

The result will be more talk of revolution, more movements to succeed from the union, and the continued weakening and eventual breakup of America. I fear Obama will be the catalyst of all this and he will be our last president. I hope I am wrong, but fear I am right.

Meanwhile, Europe falls, Russia returns to communism, China along with Russia stand as the two superpowers.

Hopefully, if November sees a re-balancing of power in Congress, we'll avert disaster. If not, we MIGHT see a lot of unrest bubbling to the surface but a major blowup will wait till 2012 unless the Fed tries to "control" the dissenters too much.

    could indeed get ugly.

I think Georgia, you just get your car impounded if you are driving it. You don't go to jail.

And those are state regulations, not Federal. Each state is different.
  • Doc
Your posts don't always follow that neat 1-2-3 series of definitions. The Supreme Court ruling clearly supports Def #1.

Also many big businesses stick to Def #1. So you can't lump all big business as bad.

i don't hate capitalism. i hate state capitalism.

    capitalism-1
an economic system that features property rights and voluntary exchanges of goods and services.
    capitalism-2
an economic system that features a symbiotic relationship between big business and government.
    capitalism-3
rule — of workplaces, society, and (if there is one) the state — by capitalists (that is, by a relatively small number of people who control investable wealth and the means of production).

Capitalism-2 and capitalism-3 are both inconsistent with freed-market principles: capitalism-2 because it involves direct interference with market freedom, capitalism-3 because it depends on such interference — both past and ongoing — and because it flies in the face of the general commitment to freedom that underlies support for market freedom in particular.

"and no the 'free market' does not offer another choice in my building"

And THAT, Weasel is exactly the problem we have and why Bozos like Obama get elected nowadays. As wonderful as the free market is, it is not always going to satisfy your every dream.

When that doesn't happen, many misguided individuals immediately think we NEED government intervention because OMG the free market isn't giving me everything I want and more!!

As comforting as this sounds to people who think the government is great, all government intervention does is create more problems than it solves.

You need to forget about big government as the answer to everything. It is not. Even when things aren't going your way, it is not the answer.

  • Weasel Slapper you hit it on the head
Despite Doc's hatred of capitalism, big business is not inherently evil, it is indeed that the bigger it gets the more open to corruption it is, just like government. But at least in capitalism (if not interfered with by govt) when they get too big they crash and burn or if they are smart they see it coming and split up into smaller parts easier to maintain. It's worked that way for hundreds of years even before the so-called 'incorporation' laws existed.

Now how to make government smaller...

"Big Business" is the same as "Big Government" from what i see.

Except, t-shirt, for one major difference -- one that Neal point out quite frequently: Government has the authority to use force to achieve its goals. I cannot blame "big business" if the government policies result in perverse incentives.

  • weasel slapper
i don't think corporations or businesses or government is evil. it the people in them that are evil. :O)

we didn't need government to get rid of child labor. all you needed was people who weren't afraid the take their freedom seriously. of course government don't us to take it seriously. back in the 1800's Lysander Spooner had a mail delivery service that had government officials fuming. how dare he go agaist the government monopoly, the USPS? they ran him out of business.

anarchy don't mean no laws, don't believe what unbelievers say.
  • The State of Obama
He referred to himself as I 75 times and me 10 times. For comparison, Bush used I 27 times and me 2 times during his 2008 speech.
  • America's Net Worth
Many Americans don't understand the concept of "net worth" They drive through a nice neighborhood looking at houses and cars and comment on how rich these people are. The reality might be that the old man living in a single wide mobile home with an old pick up truck may have more net worth. Net worth is what matters. It determines your credit rating, liquidity, and even the extent of your personal freedom.
Reading the Heritage Foundation's list of things the government could give up to save 1.5 trillion dollars made me think of the poor slob living in a million dollar home with high dollar furniture and a new Mercedes in the driveway without enough money in the bank to pay for his funeral.
America's net worth is in the negative numbers. It was squandered by irresponsible and permissive parents (politicians) desperate for the devotion of their children (voters).
Any politician not willing to cut useless and wasteful spending at this time is not worthy of our vote.
  • State of the Union speech

  • Cows and Water Boarding
Personally, I have a deep appreciation for all animals, especially cows. In fact, I love cows. Now, this may be particularly difficult for some to hear, but I even eat cows. Also, I wear their dead skin.

I Love Grilled Cow, Broiled Cow, Fried Cow, Shish Kebabed Cow, Roast Cow, and Nuked Cow.

I'm wearing Cow skin shoes right now. I'm sitting in a chair made from dead Cow skin.

I know. Morbid, huh? Like, I'm some kind of cannibal.

The Cows in this Guantanimo Torture Video have it easy. I'd take a little Cow Water Boarding any day over getting my guts grilled.

Let's Take the "Crony" Out of "Crony Capitalism"

  • @Doc 10:44:39
I don't think that Big Biz and Big Gov are necessarily evil. But they are two peas in a pod. The bigger each one gets the more inefficient it becomes. The bigger each one gets the more out of touch it becomes with its customer. They both want to blame each other to further their own agenda. Big Biz wants more money from the people and from the govt. Big Gov wants more money from the people and biz. When one plays dirty pool against the other the people lose. Even when they play nice the people end up losing.
It's Libertarian to think that govt should play no role in biz at all. However, our constitution calls for the federal govt to regulate commerce between the states. There is a fine line there. It's a line that was crossed many moons ago but still. If not for govt would we have the child labor laws? I don't know. We can ask those type questions all day but it's just speculation at this point.
I'm a small biz owner myself (restaurant). I do not like the huge role that govt plays in my biz. However, I have just as many complaints about AT&T who can never get my bill right and rips me off monthly. (and no the "free market" does not offer another choice in my building)
I don't have any mind blowing solutions but I would like to see a smaller local, state, and federal gov't. And I would love to see the big biz be able to fail when they f up. Just my opinion.

  • The Real Deal
Obama is the Real Deal. He's Richard Ely, Oliver Wendell Holmes, John Dewey, and Herbert Croly all rolled up in one smooth talking philosopher king who "rules" the United States.
If there were any doubts concerning Obama's political agenda, they certainly were erased last night.
In spite of a grass roots rejection of Obama's policies, he continued to promote government as the solution to all our problems. At no time did he ever suggest that government was the problem and that any meaningful solutions might be found in the free market and the promotion of individual liberty.
Obama is an old style progressive (socialist) who believes that only government can insure the greatest freedom of all, spiritual fulfillment.
Like ol' Bob Dylan said, "Ya gotta serve someone." Obama believes we all serve the State.
  • Huh?
Ok, I will admit that I am confused. I thought Obama was already President. Last nights speech was not a SOTU address. It was a campaign speech. There is a difference Mr. President.
  • Where to Begin
    There is so much stupidity....

Small Businesses – He and the moronic mouthpieces he sent out after the speech and this morning are spouting the same talking points – “The key is that we need to help the small businesses….” My god, the entire foundation of his policies is to destroy them, he spent all year and the speech saying how he is going to sock it to the people making above $250K…and who are those people making $250k+??? well, the vast majority of them ARE small business owners!

Now, factor in the penalties they face under the HC bills, cap and trade, other regulations, increased taxes, expiring Bush tax cuts, etc., and this IDIOT thinks that offering a small business some paltry tax credit to hire an employee he doesn’t need is going to make a difference??

There's SO much irony in what Sarkozy (Sar COZY) is saying at Davos. True capitalist wouldn't be caught dead at a place like Davos. It's a meeting set up by crony capitalist and politicians so they can cozy up to each other. Citi's stock is in the tank now! Yeah, thanks to the American taxpayer for bailing them out. If it wouldn't have been for that welfare check, Citi would be at zero most likely now. The politicians on BOTH and the crony capitalist didn't have the courage to let the market take care of bad players, so now we are stuck with these legacy financial systems forever. • Lecture
It wasn't a SOTU, it was a lecture with more of Prezbo's flamboyant, majestic, and empty rehetoric.

I also agree he thinks we are idiots. The "spending freeze" is a nod to try to get American Idol Independents and Bluedogs to jump back on the bandwagon. This is the same as claiming you are emptying a bucket of water and instead just flicking a drop off the top.

Amyone not concerned with the two most pressing matters: Terrorism and Crushing Deficit Spending needs there frigging head examined. It's clear Prezbo is still delusional about Terrorism. A person serious about fixing America's money issues would have pushed for significant tax cuts to the upper and middle-classes, and would have called for all spending minus Social Security, Medicare, Military, and essential transportation needs to be frozen immediately. This ponzai-shift of money here to pay for this and that sounds about as crooked as my Cousin paying off his credit card with his other credit card.

Finally, we hear more of the same from Mr. Hopey Changey when he calls for tax credits (read: giveaways). If he was serious about this, as Neal and many others here have suggested, he would have offered a 6 month tax holiday! Why this need to continue to funnel money through the government beauracracy just to have it "credited" a year later to the tax burden? More layers! More unnecessary government! This isn't change- it is fraud! Nothing new here.

Scumsuckers- as Butt Nakid would say!
  • "O"'s speech--haughy arrogance defined
Both my son and I commented on the “look” on TOTUS' face. He looks down on the rabble – down his nose and has that haughty arrogance that only a narcissist could engender. He is purely the most self-centered person I have ever seen. He tells us it is “not about me” so many times but, he cannot possibly escape the fact that it IS about him--he IS Washington--has been for the better part of a year......and he STILL doesn't get it....and watching that idiot Pelosi seated behind him bob her head with that "I just swallowed a frog" look on her botox-ravaged face...it was enough to make my son and I reach for a barf bag.

The unintended consequence of this incompetent's flailings is that I too find myself lured to the promise of "change" in 2012.

And as long as Barry tries to ram his unwanted healthcare and cap and trade down our throats, I am confident that he will go down as the worst one-term president in the history of the nation.

In short, he's learned nothing and his handlers seem to think that the only error he's commited is that his "delivery" of the message was flawed, not the message itself. A frickin' amazing...
  • Teleprompter
Not sure what the point of this picture is. Probably pointing out that Neal used teleprompters too. Big woo. I bet he could make a speech without one. Rush Limbaugh talked for an hour and a half at some meeting and he was only supposed to speak for 30 minutes. Obama doesn't even seem to know what he is talking about if his teleprompter crashes. Even Clinton was able to make a speech without a teleprompter. Cocaine plays hell with the brain cells.
  • And after all was said ...

  • President Obama the Great Speaker???
Everyone kept or keeps on saying Mr. Obama is a great speaker but I could not see it. Each time I watch Mr. Obama give a speech or speak, I don't see how people arrived to that conclusion. But last week, it finally done on me why I could not see it; the reason was I was seeing something different. I saw him as a salesman who uses pretty words to convince you to buy something. I also see a parent who believes they are 100% right and should not be questioned or corrected; a parent who also refuses to listen to their adult child b/c they are intellectually beneath them, therefore, should be relief and happy that say parent is in control. I am always seeing an invisible finger wagging at me when I watch him.

Also, he, his administration, and the Democratic Congress need to STOP blaming Bush. The job was not given to him at gun point, he requested the job. NO need to remind us that the economy starting tanking under Bush, because we were there when it happened.

To President Obama: YOU ASK FOR THE JOB, NOW TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND START WORKING TO PUT IT ON A HEALTHY PATH. ALSO STOP WITH THE SPENDING (SPENDING ONLY WORKS IF IT CREATES WEALTH, SO FAR THE SPENDING HAS NOT DONE THAT--THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO START NEW EXPERIMENTS SUCH AS GREEN JOBS) AND START REDUCING THE ENTIRE FEDERAL BUDGET (EXCEPTION MILITARY AND NASA) BY 25%, PERFERABLY 40% AND REDUCE TAXES FOR ALL. IN ADDITION, WE WANT HEALTH CARE REFORM THAT IS MARKET NOT GOV'T DRIVEN. BTW, I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN BY CUTTING MY INCOME TAX B/C ACCORDING TO MY PAYCHECK STUB; MY FEDERAL TAX WITHHOLDING HAS INCREASED ON JAN 1. I apologize for the scream Mr. President but you are not listen—you maybe smart but you are not the only intelligent human, please listen and stop with the social engineering because it only dumb down the American citizens. The only way to reduce poverty in this country is by making it very uncomfortable and holding them responsible for their actions. In the U.S. if you are able, there is no reason for living in abject poverty.

  • Changing banking
We have this thing in America we like to call 'choice'. Even though smaller banks get swallowed whole by larger banks at times, we still can vote with our feet(and our accounts...). When politicians preach to businessmen about 'morals', the result is predictable. Are there large banks that have been reckless? Of course. But sooner or later, the market hits them and they take it in the shorts. So thank you for the populist tome Mr. Sarkozy, now run on back to your little trophy wife and let the free market sort it out. Citigroup stock is in the crapper, so it really does take a toll on the ones who don't run a tight, or a straight ship.

Okay, I listened. Did anyone else feel as though they were listening to their snotty college history professor? He spoke to us as if were are too damn dumb to understand his lecture/programs, and he was explaining it to us ONE MORE TIME. "I guess I didn't explain the Healthcare Bill correctly!"

Hey Hope and Changey - we got it!! Believe me, we got it! We also got the Cap and Tax crap and we don't want that either!

Was there a moment in that 70 minute diatribe where PresBo said, "I am a public servant and I serve the will of the people and the rule of law?" Did anyone see that? How about any other expression of humility? Anybody see that either?

Didn't think so! Newsflash Mister President - we aren't dumb! Apparently you are and deaf as well! Watch what happens! I can harldy wait!
    CUT DAMN SPENDING AND TAXES!
  • Disclose the effects of climate change
Well SEC it seems to have the effect of raising my taxes and cost; this it turn caused me to raise my prices to cover my cost making my business less competitive. I am now lying off workers to offset the reduction in income because of decreased sales. This is having a negative impact on my companies return on equity, price-earnings and price-book ratio, fundamental analysis and prospective earnings growth; this it turn discourages investors and is making it difficult to raise capital.

The net effect is my business will not be able to hire for several years and may have to continue to lay off workers to continue to do business. Further any investment funds that are holding my stock will be impacted as I reduce or eliminate dividends and my stock’s value reduces.
  • Speech
Fox had a focus group last night after the speech. Most of them didn't agree with Obama but one woman was saying he was doing the best he could with what he inherited and he was such a great communicator as Bush couldn't even complete a sentence. Wonder if she ever heard Obama without a teleprompter.
  • More White Out
Great, now they're going to white out the name ":Stimulus II" and type over withe the name "Jobs Bill."

Do these Nimrods actually believe their own horse droppings? Do they think they can legislate job growth?

The Dems seem to fall into two categories:
Those who think their legislative taxing and wishing and renaming can make jobs happen.

Those who understand that the only way for government to help is to get themselves out of the way, (dragging any other obstructionists with them) and let the private sector have at it.
The Dems who do understand this know that they can't lessen the power of government, because their supporters won't have it.

I guess since Neal is off this week, someone should re-state the obvious: the Fair Tax would create more jobs than the ACORN census workers could count in 10 years.
Seriously, if you could start a company knowing that the company itself would pay no taxes, and you would pay no income tax on what you earned from that company, how long would it take you get a start-up going? The local governments that issue business licenses would be overwhelmed.
  • "I" speech
I counted 128 times that PBO said I, me, or my in his speech. Not a personal record, but still too many.

  • I forgot he was black for an hour tonight
Not me, that's what Chris Matthews said.

    http://www.fireandreamitchell.com/2010/01/27/chris-matthews-on-obamas-sotu-i-forgot-he-was-black-tonight-for-an-hour/

Now tell me how that is not a racist comment?
  • Obama's Speech
From Obama's speech last night: "So tonight, I'm proposing that we take $30 billion of the money Wall Street banks have repaid and use it to help community banks give small businesses the credit they need to stay afloat. (Applause.) I'm also proposing a new small business tax credit"

I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! He really thinks we are idiots.
  • It was 96 times, Neal...
that "O" referred to himself in the first person.

About the only thing I took away from his kabuki performance last night was that he announced he's a one-term president.

Thank God we're taking back both houses this election cycle.
  • Executive Orders
You can expect to see more of those.
  • Let's keep Herman Cain in this time slot.
Herman Cain is just as effective in getting his point across as is the "Talk Master". And as an added bbonus, he's not angry and arrogant as is Boortz. Cain's a pure pleasure to listen too. I propose that the time slots be switched. And Boortz would be free during the day time to enjoy his golf games.
