We'll have a lot more to say about this during the week ... but there is one central theme to this Copenhagen meeting on climate change. Money. To understand why these people are there ... just follow the big bucks. Over the weekend United Nations officials were talking about the "hundreds of billions" of dollars that would be needed to help the world's poorer nations deal with the consequences of the terrible things that the world's richer nations have done to our climate.

There's your bottom line folks. The purpose of this meeting is not to save the planet from global warming. The primary purpose is to see how much money can be transferred from wealthy nations to poor nations. A secondary purpose is to work on the long-time leftist goal of weakening the United States and destroying capitalism.

By the way ... how environmentally aware are the people attending this meeting? Try 1,200 limos and about 140 private jets. Not bad.

  • re: SKATE
I read some of the account from whatsupwiththat. The US Navy has a nice site with pictures too. There's even a Wikipedia article on the SKATE. Sounds like it would have been a nice expedition to be on. Again, I would assume they picked areas to surface where the ice was thin to protect the sub.

Like I said about arctic sea ice... It is variable in thickness, due to the fact that it is floating and subject to winds, currents, etc. When the graphics depict an area of sea ice extent (from satellite data), it does not represent an area completely covered.

    There's a good explanation here:
    http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/faq.html#area_extent

here's a nice graph of sea ice area (different than 'extent')
    http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/global.daily.ice.area.withtrend.jpg

It is also not uncommon for there to be difference in sea ice thickness as well as leads across an area. It is also very difficult to compare the thickness or extent of sea ice from pre-satellite times with extents available now.
  • All I'm saying
Is we've only been actively collecting data (limited to begin with) for about 150 years. Now we're trying to guesstimate data using glacial and polar ice, fossil records, rocks, etc., to take that data back farther.

The methods of doing that, seem to be in question so maybe we should re-examine our methods and get a TRUE consensus that is not influenced by either the oil companies (oh please) or by politicians/progressives, also with an agenda. Do that BEFORE forcing us into economic oblivion.
  • Satellite Data and Temperature Reduction
I'd love to read through these references. What urls are you talking about. A quick search fails to find them. Also remember that many satellite measurements look at information from different levels in the atmosphere. At some levels, temperatures may even be rising (Stratosphere, for instance). All the satellite measurements are interesting to look at. There is quite a bit of room for improvement here I think.
  • Correlation of Solar Activity and Global Temperature
    1. Over what years is the correlation taken? (And what do you mean by 'correlation', mathematically).

No one should deny that there will be a very large correlation between these two factor up until at least the 1960's and perhaps well into the 1970's. The problem comes in trying to maintain that good a correlation afterwards. After those dates is when additional factors need to be added to maintain good correlation with observed values.

    2. What data are you using? Do you like the data set you are using? Aren't you saying that the datasets have been 'cooked'? (pun intended)
  • LOL@Jub
Actually I thought it was snarky!
  • Stop using me as the poster child...
This is gettin' real old, y'all! I hear stuff, the seals and the walruses keep me up with the world. If I am really drowning, you think Fat Boy is going to leavr Tipper in Denmark with all those slender Danish dudes named Viggo and Jan at some fancy Hotel alone? Not a chance! Bear out!
  • ????
Didn't Copenhagen used to be like the porn capitol of Europe? So these overbearing, over-opinionated, pompous asses are flying in from all around the world and no doubt taking taxis and limos and turning lights on and running fans when they twist up a fattie in the latrines and using the bidets...but the rest of us are causing the problem? One word...hipocracy!
  • Not on Topic, but related...
Do Al and Tipper live in that monster house all by themselves??? 20 rooms and 8 baths. I don't begrudge them, but they need to tell the truth!!!
  • The 2nd guy fum the left on the nose of that submarine
is a guy I used to work with.

That wasn't the secret? Oops, sorry.
  • Skate
They actually surfaced in six different locations, checking the conditions of the ice. There are many other trips mentioned here:

  • ANOTHER global warming hoax
This is sort of a continuation of my last post as these posts are size limited.

One of the more interesting things about the National Weather Service temperature data is that once Obama came to power, the data changed. What allegedly was done is that satellite data was removed from the average, which is considered by some to be less accurate than ground station measurements. This resulted in an increase in average temperature since 1950 or so. Now, the strange thing is this. The removal of the satellite data DECREASED the temperature readings prior to 1950.

Now think about this. Satellite data changed temperature readings to lower values from 1897 to 1950. Think hard. Can you figure out the problem with this?

The more intelligent reader should have figured this out easily. For the government educated I will spell this out: THE FIRST SATELLITE WAS LAUNCHED IN 1957. WE DIDN'T HAVE SATELLITES BEFORE 1957. Sputnik was launched in October of 1957 and we didn't really start getting temperature data until the 1960's.

    Got it?

If not, consider: we didn't have satellites, how can we have satellite data?

    Still don't get it?

IF THERE WERE NO SATELLITES THERE IS NO SATELLITE DATA TO REMOVE.

    Someone is lying.

I have the data before and after Obama took office. Get the URLs and look it up at archive.org if you don't believe me.
  • More global warming fraud
I'm splitting my comments up by topic. My dad is a professor of computer-science and mathematics. One of the projects he's assigned to a class was to graph the government's own temperature data from the National Weather Service and NOAA. He then had them superimpose a graph of solar activity over the temperature graph. He then had them calculate the statistical corrolation between the two. Guess what, even if you only compare current solar activity to temperature, there is a high corrolation between the two. The whole class got these results and they were using standard statistical methods. Given that they could see the graphs as well and the way they moved in sync, he now now has most the class believing the Sun is the major cause of climate change.

No, he hasn't been shot or canned -- yet.

    WE'S SKREWED.............
  • Arctic Sea Ice
Its hard to say whether there is more or less sea ice in the Arctic now than 1959. Reliable measurements were not able to be made before satellite coverage. The subs would look for open water leads to surface in. This is likely why the picture shows USS Skate in open water. Much better to surface in a lead near the pole than risk damage to your expensive sub trying to surface through the nearby 8' thick sea ice.

In short, you can't compare ice extent of 1959 to ice extent now, as there was no reliable measurement of extent that long ago. Second, spot images of open water mean nothing in the Arctic, where large leads can open up even within the primary ice pack.
  • Save the planet.
    Outlaw environmental conferences.

BN, they'd break it for sure, then we wouldn't have ANY weather. We'd be better off painting the buttons and knobs on the control pendant pretty colors and handing it to a toddler.

You can tell they didn't give it to me, 'cause algore doesn't get airsick and sh*t his earthtone pants every time he goes up in a plane.

Nah, I wouldn't do that to his pilots and aircrew.
  • May be Jaytee
But my picture is from 1959. I think there is more ice there now....
  • com'on tell me...............................
    secret???....what secret????????

    teeeeeelllllll meeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I want the............................
with control there will be piece!!!!!!

I want the gubmint to have control of the weather machines......what could go wrong???????...
  • And just how is today's climate worse...
...than the climate we had 50-100 years ago?

    Specifics please.
  • Arctic Sea Ice
Arctic Sea Ice covers less extent than the 1979-2000 mean. Sorry, no a funny picture, just serious science.

    http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/
  • Secret of the pic?
Anyone know the secret? BN and JCooper you guys hush.
  • OMG the libs might be right!!!
The ice at the north pole has melted!!!! Seriously, look:

  • HOT ROD STRIKES AGAIN
Hot Rod is shaping up to be the most intelligent person, right next to Einstein, on this website. They have some of the most amazing information to post here and are surely to have convinced someone to think their way. I can't stop staring at this brilliant work that Hot Rod has posted here.
  • Boondoggle
QUICK! LOWER THE EARTH'S TEMPERATURE! MICHELLE OBAMA'S HAIR RELAXER'S MELTING!
  • It won't surprise me...
if this party gets crashed by some kind of violence. They already have cages setup for dissenters at the event. I actually hope this gets crashed no matter how it happens. Whether it happens violently or non violently this meeting has to be ended before any treaties can be signed.
  • A hoax being forced down our throats
It's amazing that ABC, CBS, and NBC are choosing to ignore this mass "global warming" hoax that is taking place right now. Maybe it is due to this Liberal Al Gore love being shown by the mainstream media. The whole thing is nothing more than a money grab by Al Gore and the government. How much return on investment does the hypocrite Al Gore stand to make with his investments in small alternative energy companies?

And a bunch of hypocrites are gathering in Copenhagen with their 10000 limosines and 140 private jets to discuss how they can tax the rich nations to redistribute the wealth to poorer, lazier, overpopulated nations.

There are many low cost or free solutions that we can do to reduce pollution. Funny how these aren't being suggested or discussed by either government or the media. Why?

    - monetary deposits on bottles, jars, plastic jugs, cans, batteries etc
    - tax on excessive packaging
    - tax on junk mail, newspapers, excessive and wasteful use of paper.
    - encouraging composting
    - 10 cent
    - subsidize use of CFL and LED lighting.
    - subsidize solar panels
    - cutting dependence on foreign oil - allow drilling here

And we don't need this Al Gore Cap-And-Trade carbon credits idiocy. It allows the millionaire such as Al Gore to keep polluting while the average folks are hurt.
  • 1st line of this
Please, PLEASE have more to say about this during the week. Nothing can get a conservative to cry so much than environmental meetings in Denmark. This is great news.
  • Limo's and private jets
I heard about the limo's and private jet's this morning, I cracked up. When will the sheep that believe this crap wake up and figure out this is all about power and control and that these world leaders (ours included) are nothing put a punch of arrogant pr**ks, that think they can stop hurricanes and tornadoes from happening. Please wake up folks.
