QUOTE OF THE DAY

Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders is a fool.  Here's the latest quote he came up with on this healthcare debate: "The day will come, although I recognize it's not today, when the U.S. Congress will have to vote to stand up to ... all those who profit every single year off of human sickness."

Don't you just love that?  "Profiting off of human sickness"

Remember, Bernie Sanders is a Socialist.  The media refers to him as an "independent," but he's an avowed Socialist.  He hates the profit motive.  He believes that the government should own the means of production in this country .. .and operate them for the public good.

What others are saying

  • profits
This article and most of everyone's comments are 1 dimensional. Issues aren't so black and white.

Profits are necessary to survive in this society but at what stake? Where you would deny care and help to the sick to cut a profit? Under the current structure it would only make sense to do this and I find a problem with that.
  • Sanders is misleading
If all he wanted to do was "stand up" then I wouldn't have a problem.

What he really means of course, is that he wants to use the force of the state to steal from the people who profit.

Those who condone violence rarely outright say it. If the looters actually stated what they intend to actually do, not nearly as many people would support them.
  • can you handle anuther quote??????
    POLITICIANS ARE SCUM......
  • Twistedsaint
you can laugh at my flimsy tshirts, but once again they will pay for all my christmas presents and them some.

    ROTFLOL
  • Profiting from human endevours...
Just like “all those who profit from human sickness” is like all those entire who profit from crime… i.e. our nation’s police departments.
A few years ago, I congratulated the Police Chief of our small town here in South Carolina for his community having "the lowest crime rate per capita anywhere in the state" that year. When I did so, he shook his head in disgust saying “You try to go before City Council and get your budget passed when they tell you that without any crime, you aren’t getting your funding."
Just as "human sickness" is profitable, so is crime for those that try to enforce the laws.
  • Twistedsaint
were did i say that doctors don't deserve profit?
  • Profits
Sen John McCain was on the tube this week ranting about the healthcare bill and special interests. He said that big pharma's profits have gone up 9% this year. He said they are "the real bad guys". Wow. They have been promised an 80b tax hike when this healthcare bill gets passed and this jackass calls them bad guys. A profit driven company is the one that innovates and makes discoveries. That costs money to do. With each drug produced hundreds of millions have been spent on research and development. Not to mention the costs of drugs that never make it to market.
Neal you can call Sanders a fool and a Socialist (and rightfully so) but you voted for McCain.
  • Sure
And I'm sure Sanders is saying this ss he's limo riding in his Italian suit counting his millions, laughing at the thousands of sheeple that voted for him.
    What a moron.
  • @RDH
Well said!!! Every one of you "evil-profit" minded libs need to pay attention to this post.
  • RE: Jim R
"It seems to me that the insurance companies profit off of the HEALTHY folks and pay out to the sick ones."

Except for the ones they accept premiums from for years and years, and then sic their "care denial" teams on so they don't have to pay out.

Insurance companies have mostly proven themselves to be inefficient, irresponsible and corrupt, if not criminal.

We don't need "government-run" health care, we all know that would be a disaster. We need single-payer.
  • @Tshirt Doc
So, you don't think someone who dedicates his to saving yours deserves a profit for his service, but someone that sells flimsy T-shirts does? How does that make sense?

And as a previous poster pointed out, health insurance actually only profits off the healthy ones.
  • drug companies
"On April 22, 2009, the US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality reported that in 2006 more money was spent on treating mental disorders in children aged 0 to 17 than for any other medical condition, with a total of $8.9 billion. By comparison, the cost of treating trauma-related disorders, including fractures, sprains, burns, and other physical injuries, was only $6.1 billion.

In 2008, psychiatric drug makers had overall sales in the US of $14.6 billion from antipsychotics, $9.6 billion off antidepressants, $11.3 billion from antiseizure drugs and $4.8 billion in sales of ADHD drugs, for a grand total of $40.3 billion.

Parents can now have their kids declared disabled due to mental illness and receive Social Security disability payments and free medical care, and schools can get more money for disabled kids. The bounty for the prescribing doctors and pharmacies is enormous and the CEOs of the drug companies are laughing all the way into early retirement.

    moocher ass kids! lol

the profit motive has its good side and its bad side. unfortunately, most people don't want to see the bad side of it.

When Getting Beaten By Your Husband Is A Pre-Existing Condition

It turns out that in eight states, plus the District of Columbia, getting beaten up by your spouse is a pre-existing condition.

  • "Profit on human sickness"
Profit is the reason new drugs and devices are created. Profit is the reason that companies invest billions in drug research.

Profit is one of many reasons that people become doctors and nurses. Doctors invest hundreds of thousands in their education, and MUST produce a profit in order to pay back loans, invest in new equipment, etc.

Profit is the reason for insurance. Without the profit motive, there would be no insurance for home/life/health/car. There would be no "pooling", and individuals would have to negotiate at the point care is delivered on the spur of the moment.

Profit is the reason drug stores are in existence. If they could not make a profit off of "sickness", drug stores would go out of business. You want to get your medical supplies from a government clinic, too?

The reason that we have the wonderful life-saving drugs that we do, a drug store on every corner, doctors of all specialties, etc, is PROFIT.

Does Bernie Sanders believe that farmers are making profits off of hunger/famine, and that it should be stopped? Does he believe that builders are making profit off of the otherwise homeless, and that it should be stopped? Does he believe that bottled water companies are making profits off of the thirsty, and that it should be stopped?

Profit provides the incentive to satisfy human need. There is no substitute. Without it, people go hungry (like in Cuba), or doctors are imported from the third world (as in the U.K.), or new drugs do NOT get developed because the folks who invest in that development will not be allowed to make money on their investment.

While we may not like the fact that some get very very rich off of health care, profit is the single best way to ensure that a doctor will be available with the best drug at the right time that you get sick.
  • Profiting off human sickness
What about going after the grocery stores? After all, they profit off human hunger! Then the power companies, I live in FL so they profit off human discomfiture during the 10 month summer. Lets not forget the clothing providers, they profit off human nakedness. What other industries can we go after.
  • Hypocracy of Socialist Sanders
Any comments about Socialist Santers profitting, as an elected government official no less, off the ignorant masses????
  • All those who profit from human sickness
    Let's see:

Several friends who work as nurses all thought they were just earning a living so they could buy luxuries like food, clothing, shelter, health insurance and pay taxes. They didn't think they were profitting from human sickness.

My doctor thought he was paying his receptionist, nurses, the rent on his office, his business and malpractice insurance premiums, buying food, clothing, shelter, health care, education for his children, paying taxes, and saving for retirement for his wife and himself. He didn't think he was profitting from human sickness.

Maybe these folks should all just quit and go on the dole. They all suggested that Senator Sanders should go perform a physiologically challenging act which, if done sufficiently, would preclude him leaving any contributions to the gene pool.
  • I guess one thing we can say is that at least Ol' Bernie is honest about being a Socialist. Too bad the rest of the Socialists in National Democratic Party can't be that honest about who they are.
Oh, and just to be clear about it – The Democrats are a National party and by all indications they are Socialists (or Statists or all the other labels they use like progressive, etc)

So that makes them the National Socialist Democrat Party, okay? Thanks for listening.

    ..
  • i don't love it
but its true. that's why state capitalism, or should i say corporatism, is on the downward slide.

we have corporatism leaders who let their buddies take over the not-for-profit health insurance companies and turn them into a for profit health insurance companies. we all know that maximizing profits is the main job of corporations. how do the for-profit health insurance maximize the profits? by paying out the minimum dollars they can.

you just don't like it because the truth hurts.
  • Morons in DC
If these morons in Washington hate the private sector in this country, DON'T give them a pay check anymore.
  • Definitely a socialist
No way conservatives would call anyone a socialist just because they have different political beliefs.
  • Democrats
If the liberals are so against 'Free Market' system, tell them they will not be paid a salary anymore. See what thier response would be than.
  • Exactly opposite
It seems to me that the insurance companies profit off of the HEALTHY folks and pay out to the sick ones.
  • And Don't Forget
Barack Hussein Obama was ranked MORE LIBERAL than Bernie Sanders. L-MAO
  • Human Sickness
Just like Micky-D's is profiting off human hunger
