COMPLIMENTING OBAMA

Since I think that Barack Obama is such a threat to freedom and our future, I really need to go out of my way to compliment him when it's warranted.

I've finally taken the time to read his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech.  It is said that he wrote this speech himself.  If so, there were some great moments.  Let me just share a few lines with you that I thought were excellent:

First of all .. this whole paragraph is wonderfully crafted:

"I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the considerable controversy that your generous decision has generated. In part, this is because I am at the beginning, and not the end, of my labors on the world stage. Compared to some of the giants of history who have received this prize -- Schweitzer and King; Marshall and Mandela -- my accomplishments are slight. And then there are the men and women around the world who have been jailed and beaten in the pursuit of justice; those who toil in humanitarian organizations to relieve suffering; the unrecognized millions whose quiet acts of courage and compassion inspire even the most hardened of cynics. I cannot argue with those who find these men and women -- some known, some obscure to all but those they help -- to be far more deserving of this honor than I."

Well .. you might say that he was stating the obvious.  But at least he recognized and voiced it.

Now .. read this part of Obama's speech:

"Whatever mistakes we have made, the plain fact is this: The United States of America has helped underwrite global security for more than six decades with the blood of our citizens and the strength of our arms. The service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform has promoted peace and prosperity from Germany to Korea, and enabled democracy to take hold in places like the Balkans. We have borne this burden not because we seek to impose our will. We have done so out of enlightened self-interest -- because we seek a better future for our children and grandchildren, and we believe that their lives will be better if other peoples' children and grandchildren can live in freedom and prosperity."

Well said, Mr. President.  Wait!  Did I just say "Mr. President?"  Why yes, I think I did.  When Obama shows this recognition and respect for the sacrifice our Veterans and those who died in war have made .. he deserves the title.

Then Obama said that he "...reserve(s) the right to act unilaterally if necessary to defend my nation."  Good.  That's your job.

OK .. just wanted to drop in a few words of praise for some great moments in Obama's speech.  Could I pick out some bad points?  Sure ... but that wasn't my purpose with this section of the Nuze.  Now ... onward.

What others are saying

  • COMPLIMENTING OBAMA.
It's shane he didn't give this speech to the cadets last week.
  • Mr. Commander In Chief
    Well said.
  • An observation
It's funny, everyone saying "maybe he isn't as far left as everyone said he was"
WERE the only ones claiming he was some Socialist messiah. Next time we'll put Kuinich in there and see how much you guys kick and scream. :P

This country will do just fine under our President, no pundit could convince a reasonable thinker otherwise.
  • Whiplash
Careful Neal, you've caused whiplash for all the mindless drones that follow you, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, The Mannity, et al. Their mindless hate has been confused by your comments. It's bad business for demagogues like you to confuse your minions.
  • Some people never grow up! Example>
The mouth breathers in the gun shacks come here for their steady diet of Obama bashing day after day and they won't like to be disappointed.

  • its part of obama's job creation project...
he hired some of reagan's speech writers..2 more jobs created for a total,no wait, jobs saved, they were shovel ready jobs, shoveling B.S.
  • This could have been a speech read by Reagan
I was very pleased with the message this speech brought to the world stage. When we even have conservatives like Palin and Gingrich praising the speech, that should mean something. If this is indicative of Obama's true intentions for foreign policy, I can support it 99.2%.
  • I would have been impressed only if he had been honest. To be honest he would have flatly refused to accept the prize and told them that there was no reason to give it to someone who has done nothing and that makes it worthless and so the only honorable thing to do is to not accept this award.
  • Did he bring the teleprompter
OK seriously... great speech Mr. President. I don't like most of what I've heard you say, but that was excellent.
  • Talk is cheap
With Obama, you always have to watch what he does and discount what he says. Anybody remember the campaign?
  • he ain't that smart.........
you folks are givin' credit where it ain't do........

it was TOTUS that should git the kredit....
  • B. O. 's Teleprompter needs to be commended...
Not having heard the speech myself, thank you for providing us these excerpts from the "Teleprompter and Chief's" commentary...and the reader did okay too.
  • Obama's speach
Didn't get to see it,were his lips moving?

    There you have it!

    SCUMSUCKER IN CHARGE
  • This should be address to all liberal or democrats who view the U.S. as an evil country, rapist, uncaring, and down right mean!
Well done Mr. President! This is I am saying. If only you and Congress could govern with this in mind. Because I believe if you approach foreign policy thru those lenses, we would fair better as a nation. No one is disagreeing mistakes have not been committed by the U.S. but to only highlight those mistakes without the numerous successes and generosity the U.S. has presented to the World is simply wrong, insulting, and dangerous for the U.S. (past, present, and future citizens).
  • ditto
I was very impressed with him, too, but I don't want him to make a habit of sounding good. You can prosper as Democrat President by giving humble and/or patriotic speeches, all the while dismantling capitalism under the lazy eye of the MSM.
  • I appears to me
that there are a few skeptics in the crowd as to the Presidents sincerity.

    I'm one of them.
  • @By Jubilation T Cornpone @ 12/11/09 10:14:53 AM
Call you a racist? Why? Are you one?
  • Wow, Obowmao said something correct for once – well you know what they say about broken clocks.
    Take another Bow, Barry!
  • okay....................
    JT CORNPONE............RACIST.....happy now????????

osamabama could not have written the speech......not enuff IIIIIIIIIIIIIII's...
  • Careful, Neal
Neal, I admire your willingness to give credit when credit is due. I wish both sides would do that. NY Times columnist Tom Friedman, in a rare moment of complimenting something GWB did (I forget what it was) once told his predominantly liberal readership, "Just because George W. Bush says something does not mean it is wrong."

But, you start feeding your red meet listener base any compliments about Obama, and they'll do to you what they did to Kathleen Parker over at townhall.com. The mouth breathers in the gun shacks come here for their steady diet of Obama bashing day after day and they won't like to be disappointed.
  • States the obvious!
We conservatives dont want someone that states the obvious, we want someone like Bush that keeps feeding us lies. We conservatives want a Tea Party that demands more politicians that promise lower taxes but only raise them, promise to help the economy but only worry about gay marriage & abortion, and politicians that dont worry about gun control and promise safety to soldiers leaving for duty and cops drinking coffee
  • Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every so often
... somebody call me a racist.
  • I'd be more impressed if....
...I thought he actually meant one word of that. I don't. Keep in mind that this guy is a narcissist and a pathological liar. It's going to take a lot more than a few quotes in a crafted speech to turn me around.
  • his nobel prize short list....
nice speech although he failed to list some of the more like thinking alumni who I sure he shares a common view with, maybe Arifat,Jimmy Carter,Al Gore and I believe Desomnd Tutu? But it is nice to see him at least give a "presidential" speech rather than his normal"ruling decree for the throne"
  • President Obamuppet's speech.
I agree with Neal on the first part of the speech. He said all the "right stuff" about our country. It was a nice piece of speech writing. It's just sad that I know he doesn't truly believe it.
  • Those are well-crafted and thoughtful comments by the president
The only question I have to ask is, "Does he mean any of it?"
I think it's pretty obvious that President Obama is a master at saying what people want to hear. However, it has become extremely difficult to tell if his thoughts are genuine or if he is simply trying to win favor.

He has been 'caught' reneging or not fulfilling his promises before, and when somebody makes a habit of that, it becomes difficult to believe that person.

We can HOPE that he meant every word.
  • from what little I did see of the speech coverage
I'm pretty sure I saw a clenched jaw or two in the audience.

    Disappointed Euroweenie = Happy American
  • Complimenting Obama
While I heartily disagree with most of what the President is trying to do, we really do need to encourage stateman-like behavior in Obama, when he actually behaves as a stateman. Now, the cynic in me wonders if he really means what he said, or it is just politics as usual, but if he does mean it, then KUDOS, Mr. President.
  • I agree
I noticed those parts of the speech as well, even felt part of it could have been an after-the-fact agreement that iraq was justifiable (in code words, of course).

I was dismayed to see the sources I trust when it comes to critiqueing the administration not taking a moment to notice the good parts when they happen.

    Glad you did, Neal.

Maybe our president learned something while coming to the afghanistan decision.
  • gotta admit
I was a bit taken back by his remarks. I kept thinking I was dreaming...
  • Second paragraph and election posturing
Regarding Obama's second paragraph where he would normally be apologizing for the US, it appears that he is trying to appear a little tough instead of the weak foreign policy president that he is. Hannity pointed this out and it makes sense that Obama is saying these things as PR move to repair his image and that of the Democrat party in advance of the 2010 and 2012 elections.
  • Thanks Neal,
My 17 year old son was giving me crap for not agreeing with anything our president says.

I now have a great example I can show him of where I DO agree with Mr. Obama.
  • I heard those lines from the speech...
... and it sounded good. No backhanded compliment on this one.

    Good job, Mr. President.
