Yeah, we've talked about that one before. Maybe we could loosen the licensing requirements some but I kinda like knowing my doctor has been ed-u-macated and where.

And I've talked about doctors who want to provide care for a flat rate fee per month, great idea, states are generally against it but I know of at least one that succeeded, that idea has always been on my list.

Most of the other stuff is about economy in general so I'll stick with direct effects on health care costs: my solution (which would never go over) would be to eliminate insurance companies. Period. And keep the government out of healthcare all together. THAT is where most of your costs come from. We have a group here in Augusta that offers 35-50% discounts if you DON'T use insurance. You can pay them and then file with your insurance company if you want to but they have decided they don't want anything to do with insurance companies. And for a family the discount package is $138 a year.

LOTS of ideas for bringing down costs. Just leave the government out of it.

There are many of us that have had it. I pray for peace every night; however, peace at any cost is not peace. I pray we can come back from the cliff.

There are some things that the VA does very well and others, well I would rather not...

I spent my time at the VA going through physical therapy for several years. Now I manage my own therapy program and use pain killers when I must. The pain killers are managed through a doctor I see at the VA from time to time. Everything else, non service related, is handled through my own high deductible insurance plan.

The other thing that I give the VA marks for is recognizing and taking in more veterans with addiction problems that are likely linked to war stress.

There were times the system was neglected and veterans were left in the cold. It was bad during those times.

The VA is targeted to a specific group so I have concerns about extrapolating that model to the population at large.

Colburn and friends are making some effort to slow this thing down. Maybe they can hand on until the American people wake up. If not, this may be the "Tea Tax" of our time. The prisons, cattle cars, and guillotines are already in place for those of us who will fight this all the way.

I heard tell that the best example of how government run healthcare would be like would be to look at the VA system. I believe watching the movie Article 99 could be in order.

The Senate Health Care Bill must continue to be challenged at every turn, by every Senator who opposes it. True, reform is needed but what is currently proposed is beyond reform. The long term ramifications of this bill will saddle the productive members of our society with ever increasing demands upon their incomes. Eventually there will be demands for the revenue generated in this program to be used elsewhere. The need will be consuming, requiring further reforms and bad legislation. There are better and less intrusive ways to reform the current healthcare system, but unfortunately the current administration and the controlling members of the congress have selective hearing.

Senator, I have always admired your moderate temperament regarding the important issues facing this great nation. I think you are a truly caring representative of your state who is concerned about the future of our country.

Much of the country has been following the health care bill now making its way through the senate. And you sir, had given hope to 61% of the public who now oppose a health care bill giving government control of 18% of our economy.

Now, to our dismay, you sound as though you are ready to vote yea for the bill because certain elements have changed. Back room political maneuvering and arm twisting are forcing approval of a bill that the majority of Americans DO NOT WANT.

The reforms our health care system does need do not require the dramatic take-over of the industry by government that is being proposed. If this bill passes, it will in effect be "throwing the baby out with the bath water".

I would also like to comment on the supposedly "deficit neutral" phrase Obama throws around regarding this bill. What he doesn't tell us is that the taxpayers will be hit very hard to pay for another entitlement program. Surely congress knows spending is out of control?

It is obvious to most of the public, that as far as government is concerned, "Health Care" and "Global Warming" are actually manipulative schemes to redistribute wealth by burdening earners with the cost of maintaining over bloated government bureaucracy and monster waste.

The socialist state being built in Washington for over 40 years in the making is actually reverting our economy and culture to nothing more than a feudal society where the Monarchists (our congress and President) sit in absolute rule over the peonage (US citizen). Today its health care being run by government, tomorrow the rest of the free market.

Please rethink your position. The ideal of FREEDOM that this country once stood for is much bigger than you, the President, or any other ego of congress.

Well this is confusing. If the Senate passes it, so what? It still must go back to the House and then both must argue out the details. That will carry over to 2010. So does that mean Princess Nancy will not debate this bill again, given that it's "controversial"?

If the administration would be rendered irrelevant and dormant, that would be a good thing. Pray that the measure fails.
