You are going to love this. It's always fun when someone cries "racism" nowadays, because the word has been so incredibly watered down. It means absolutely nothing. It is a joke. And in this case, it is a labor union crying "racism!" Even more fun.

Here's the scenario. The Chamber of Commerce released an ad attacking Obamacare, explaining why it will be bad for America. The ad, which you can watch here, shows a boss who is distraught about having to fire an employee. As the boss calls the employee into his office, the camera pans to a shot of a black worker watching as his co-worker is called in to be fired.

Racist!

Yep. The AFL-CIO believes that this ad had racial overtones because it stereotypes the idea that minorities have an advantage in the workplace because of affirmative-action policies. A spokesman for the AFL-CIO says, "This is the same old right wing dog whistle politics ... They're trying to use race and class to scare working people about a health care bill."

You know, of course, that there is no way to win with this advertisement. Let's consider the possibilities:

  1. Boss fires white guy as other white employees look on. AFL-CIO then issues press release saying that this commercial promotes the idea of a whites-only workplace and is, therefore, RACIST!
  2. Boss fires black guy with white co-workers looking on. AFL-CIO then issues press release saying that this commercial promotes the idea that black workers are the least worthy and, therefore, the ones that should be fired first and is, therefore, RACIST!
  3. Boss fires black guy while black co-workers look on. AFL-CIO then issues a press release saying that this commercial promotes the idea that black workers have poor personal health habits which will create a huge strain for employers leading to firings over ObamaCare and is, therefore RACIST!

The "R" word has become a joke. Since it's a joke it should be made fun of, derided and played with. People who scream "racism" with a straight face should be looked upon as demented. Also, the medical community should designate a special type of Tourette's Syndrome; one that identifies afflicted people who yell "racist" every third breath.

What others are saying

  • SOUTH AFRICA
Come To South Africa And See
  • Racism in ad
Never saw racism in the ad. I saw a co-worker who was probably concerned about his co-work and/or himself.

I don't see blacks as having any advantage in the workplace.
  • Ad
Amazing how everyone sees something different. When I saw it, and it panned to the African American, I thought, it looked like he was thinking one of three things, "I'll be next - things are slowing down." or "I hope Bob will be alright; he has the three kids." or "Let me talk to him and see what I can do." Those are the three things I think I would feel, so that is what I saw on that man's face. I think we lost it as a country; the unions, they were helpful at one time - they have run their course. Money machines now; have their workers do less work for more money. Shame on all of them.
  • What's more racist?
Let me ask you all what is more racist? I was loading some groceries into my car one day, I load them in the front seat instead of the trunk, and this black gentleman was approaching and I quickly realized that the car next to mine was his and I was blocking him from getting into his car. We politely nodded and exchanged pleasantries and I picked up the pace so I could get out of his way. As I started to close my door I almost locked it as I always do when I return the cart to the cart corral and then at the last second I decided not to lock it out of fear that he would assume that I thought he was going to steal my groceries because he is black. But then the more I thought about it I thought it might be more racist that I didn't lock my door, in other words it may be more racist to assume that he would think I'm a racist by locking the door compared to just locking the door because he is black. Even though I wouldn't have locked the door because he is black, I would've locked the door anyway, even though I didn't in this case. Does that make any sense?
  • re: Chris
I believe you. I think for most people it is an ideology issue. My point from the begiining was though that neal is always pointing out false accusations of racism or bigotry but never comments on real examples. When people want to tell me that watermelon farms at the white house and the pres as a African in full tribal gear are not done based on his race rather than his politics though...I call BS. I just think Neal should at least acknowledge the existence instead of it being a steady drumbeat of false accusations. He seems to have no problem doing it on other subjects but I have yet to see him acknowledge the racial wackos on the right the way he does the race pimps on the left.
  • Chris
For the umpteenth time...Neal and most everyone else on this board are in agreement...we don't bash Obama because of who he is...we do it because we disagree with what he is doing. DEAL WITH IT!
  • damn it damn it damn it..................................
    THERE.....sum place that ain't here...

    THEIR.....his'n and hers.......

    THEY'RE...them guys.......

    damn gubmint edjukation......
  • re Kevin
How about a little honesty here Kevin? Is that asking too much? Ever heard of something called context? I'm certain it is in every dictionary. One was done for a comedy album and the other was done to be serious and used on protest signs. By the way those Tea Party patriots holding the signs of Obama in full African mode...how often did they take to the streets with the pic of GWB and bone to critisize his bailouts and stimulus? Hmm? Let's think. Oh right, they didn't do jack then. Bush with a bone in his nose has no real context while Obama in full African mode has plenty. And just for good measure did you google watermelons and the White House? I suppose you can now inform DD that they both actually do exist.
  • Great point Neal, but....
you forgot to mention scenario 4 below:

    4. Boss fires nobody. Company continues to lose money and ultimately goes out of business. Everybody loses and thus to a Liberal, that means everybody wins. Sad but true.
  • White firing black with black employees
would infer that only management is qualified to be white, and those who are black, are only qualified to be workers.

You also have 4 other scenarios with a black manager having to fire people in the same scenarios, and each one could be painted with a different racial brush.

So unfortunately as a person born into original sin, the act of being a racist even though I don't know it, I have to get back to managing employees.
  • Yes Virginia, you do have an advantage
"Minorities" (and women and homosexuals and Muslims) DO have an advantage in the workplace (and in education and in government and in the law and in society in general).
  • Re Todd
I googled Obama bone in nose. I saw one picture. Strangely, right next to it, was a pictures of Bush with a bone in his nose.
So the Obama picture with the bone is certainly racists!!! But only to his white half.
  • Solution: "No Racial!"
All you have to do is this:

Every time you run an add, write a column, or say anything critical of Obama / Socialists, just follow by saying "No Racial."

    Video Demonstration Here:

  • @ everyone entertaining this
Neal is and has been full of crap. All you ever hear him do is Obama Bash. Now I must admit, I myselft was not for Obama during election and did not vote for him....But guess what...HE IS IN OFFICE NOW!!! DEAL WITH IT AND LET HIM DO HIS JOB...now as for the commercial....come on people...If you can actually watch this ad and find any kind of racial anything in it...you need to get a life and find something to occupy your time. This is crazy...but hey..Only Neal Boortz would see, find and/or agree with the suggestion of racism...How about we find something worth while to talk about..uh maybe like taxes, the U.S. deficit, the homeless in this country, the growing unemployment rates around the world, teen pregnancy, gangs, murders....TAKE A PICK PEOPLE and stop entertaining these dumb ass topics!!!
  • I know why.................
if sum of you haven't noticed......osamabama is losin' lotsa weight.....

the reason is one half of hin is white and the other is african (not arfo-amerikan..african).....

and one half is racist and the other is trying to convince him it ain't......

    hope he loses.....
  • @ D.D.
I understand why you never saw them because you undoubtedly watch only one station for your news and they woudln't dare show you the other side of those patriots holding up their signs. Here is a suggestion...google any combo of Obama and bone through nose. Afterwards when you feel sufficiently stupid for having not seen it don't be upset so much. For at the end of the day you are but a sheep eating only what you are fed by your herders. I mean how else would you know it was actually a Republican mayor who heloed circulate the watermelon picture?
  • So why in civil service....
When a person is being rated for a civil service position, race is a factor. After the person is rated out for KSAs (knowledge, skills, and abilities) they are given points. Additional points are then added for every "protected" class that they belong to. A person can be more qualified and be denied the position because of the point system. The process does exist and it does heavily favor protected classes.

No, I have never applied for a civil service position.

Yes, I have hired civil servants as an officer in the US Army.

Yes, I have fired civil servants. It can be done.

No, I have never listed my Native American status. I believe the system is disgusting and berating.
  • @ Watermelon Rancher
so what you are saying is if a white guy uses a steretype to photohsop a picture it isn't bigotry or racism because it is only a steretype. On the other hand if the NAACP uses the stereotype of a southern police officer as hostile towards blacks then they are the real racist regardless of the long held stereotype. Brilliant deduction. Maybe morons like you are the reason people continue to push steretypes to begin with. For the record I am a late 40's white guy raised in Alabama. I know not every southerner is racist or redneck but because that is our steretype dimwits like you will excuse any behavior associated with it. Great job.
  • @GO JOE /BRIAN
"If it were my troops watching this video, I would tell them not to be like crybaby conservatives. What do you mean Joe? Well this is what I mean. A conservative will watch this video, start crying, and think of 20 different things to complain about. A normal person will just not watch it, and continue not to worry about it. See how easy that is?"

In your comment above replace "conservatives" with liberal and normal people with "conservatives" ony then will your comment be a better representation of todays political climate.
  • hold on a minute.......
nuttin' racial here.....there planning the next cross lightin' at next weeks meetin'........
  • Yea, and the revolving door ad was racist because thedp/msm informed me willie horton was black.
It's the dp for whom race is central.

I don't play that game either, beyond pointing out how silly it and those who play it are.
  • Racist Add
It is only a matter of time before whites feel so much resentment at false accusations of racism, they actually WANT blacks to sit in the back of the bus, and call them "Boss".
  • And It keeps Getting Funnier
Hey "GO JOE" ...nice try but you made yourself look foolish (as most liberaals will do) taking that cheap shot at conservitives. If to look again it was the AFL-CIO (Liberal Org) that was whining. hehehehehe

Step back and try it again!

Todd - your rant was BS based on one small fact, had there been such pics they would have been all over the news and I seen but one and that was the JOKER photo.....does it hurt when you fall down so much?

You libs keep swing for the cheap seats...you voted these clowns in and now you can't defend them...

    And it keeps getting funnier!
  • Commercial
The boss should be a Latino woman. Then no matter who they fire it will be the right decision since latino women make wiser choices than anyone else.
  • Neil You're a Racist
Your a racist for even trying to say this add isn't racist. It is obviously racist because it shows the white man has a genetic superiority for being selected as the worker who is being fired from the genetic superior boss who is firing him. A black worker keeping his job is obviously an image of a black man being oppressed, because of racism! (Satirical comment if you didn't pick up)
  • Is it racism to use stereotypes?
Is a picture of Obama with a bone through this nose racist or just an African stereotype? What about a real African pygmy with a bone through this nose? Is that racist? Should we ask National Geographic to have all African pygmies remove the bones through their noses before any photos are taken so they won't further racial stereotypes. Get a grip BLACK people. Everyone uses stereotypes which, by and large, are pretty accurate. It's not racism.

The NAACP complained that a Columbus, Georgia police officer was eating a banana during their annual MLK parade! WTF is wrong with that? The officer had to stand at an intersection for 3 freaking hours while the parade passed. The city provided him with the snack but the real racists complained that he was making a statement that blacks were banana-eating monkeys.

Blacks have made racism into big business and your credit is getting cut off!
  • Who gives a rats azz
Dumb-assism is the belief that intelligence is the primary determinant of human survivability and capacities and that differences in intelligence produce an inherent superiority of a particular person over another.
  • What a joke.
I have no prejudices against any race, but, because I am a caucasian, I am RACIST!

It doesn't matter what we do or what we don't do, we will always be labeled as the "R" word.
  • Neal's anti-racism rant exposes his racism!
I agree with Stan. The example Neal DIDN'T write shows his racism. In no example was the boss of Africamerica. This means Neal believes subconsciensly that only whites should have positions of power.
  • Damned if you do, Damned if you don't
I believe that I, personally, can dislike ANYONE for any reason I so choose..and I do
And I totally support the right of others to do the same..
I just don't buy to much emotional stock in it really..
It's not on my "life's" to do list to get angry about it. I have other, more pressing matters to deal with...like feed my family, raise a child and live the best I can before the end gets here.
  • Racism
    Let's run through several scenerios:
    1. White boss, white worker laid off, black worker in background. Racism
    2. White boss, black worker laid off. Racism
    3. Black Boss, white worker laid off. Racism
    4. White boss, white worker laid off no black workers in background. Racism
    5. Black boss, black worker laid off, black workers in background. Racism

    Can't win.
  • The medical community should designate a special type of Tourette's Syndrome; one that identifies afflicted people who yell "racist" every third breath.
Unfortunately, that would apply to most leftists – but Hey they could use that as a pretext for getting paid medial leave because they are 'Sick'.
  • wow I watched it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so after wasting another few seconds of my life.............I find that I am now a racist.......whoooooopy!!!!

    can I go now massa????
  • neverending entitlement
The only way racism will ever be removed from the daily dialogue of balcks is when all "crackres" are in the fields working for thier black "massa". Oh, that already happens. The slave master is now the federal government. Daily millions are sent to the fields and the fruits of thier labos are given to "massa" while he sits at home waiting for the mail. PAINFULLY TRUE
  • Racism
Racism is an industry now, not a social issue that is going to tear the fabric of our society to shreds. That isn't to say that there isn't racism everyday commited against every race - but it isn't the same as it used to be. And while it will never disappear (it's against human nature) it would be MUCH less prevalent an issue without those that thrive and make their living off of keeping it alive.

Oh, and the most racist cultures that I have experienced have been every other except for the US and the Canadians.
  • why is it that Neal.....
is quick to point out false accusations of racism but never real moments of bigotry or racism? Does he believe it doesn't exist or simply ignores it? If a Tea Party protester has a photoshopped pic of Obama with a bone through his nose and carrying a spear, or a pic of the White House as a watermelon patch, why does that never get pointed out on his show or site and that person derided? Those things have nothing to do with his policies and solely are based on his race. It is only the false accusations he mentions. I think false accusations should be pointed out but when Neal does it exclusively on one side you have to wonder why he ignores the real. I understand the business he is in means he has to put on a show and his character is the "Angry Guy" but showing any objectivity would lend credence to his arguments. Racism as a word is incorrectly used by everyone. Attitudes and opinons fall under bigotry. Acts of hostility or overt measures aimed at a race is racism.
  • Racism
    The boss is probably chinese,
  • Well
"the idea that minorities have an advantage in the workplace because of affirmative-action policies"

They do - it's a simple as that.
  • where's the racism?
Where is the racism in this ad? Where is the part about how one makes comments about how one race is genetically or inherently better than another?

If someone can point this out to me from the ad, I would be most appreciative.
  • What I would do
If it were my troops watching this video, I would tell them not to be like crybaby conservatives. What do you mean Joe? Well this is what I mean. A conservative will watch this video, start crying, and think of 20 different things to complain about. A normal person will just not watch it, and continue not to worry about it. See how easy that is?
  • Chamber Ad
I wasn't bothered by the veiled racism of that ad nearly as much as I was sickened by all that homoerotic, inappropriate sexual harassment. How can they show men touching each other like that!? I nearly puked my Fruit Loops.
ps--When will OSHA release it's angry statement relating to how dangerously dark it is in that facility? I guess the message there is 'we have to fire this guy so we can pay to have the lights turned back on'.
