Second, my point is this; Conservatism has its detractors. I, for the life of me cannot understand why Conservatives feel the need to control what people do with their bodies. You missed the part where Conservatives are trying to install a religious government? Really? Tell that to the person who tries to buy alcohol on Sunday in Georgia, you dolt. Abortion? Who's body is it? If it isn't their body, then why do Conservatives try to control it? I really don't care how offended you are by abortion, it has nothing to do with the fact that it is ludicrous to think that it is acceptable for any government entity to force a woman to have a baby that she doesn't want. You say it isn't about controlling a woman's reproduction, it's about protecting life. Well, the last time I drove past the local abortion clinic I failed to see the line of people waiting to adopt the soon to be aborted fetuses, so that argument does not fly. Homosexuality? Why do conservatives care if two people want to get married? Who cares if those two people are of the same sex. Is it anyone's business but their own? I never said anything about legislating acceptance, that would be impossible, but trying to legislate how consenting adults interact with each other? Why? What logical purpose does that serve? Does legislating "morality" promote the cause of individual liberty? I think not. The war on drugs? A Conservative started that one, and Conservatives have continued to promote this abysmal failure consistently. Why? Does incarcerating a non-violent drug user promote individual liberty? Outlaw pot, but drink up! (Unless it's Sunday in Georgia) Yeah, that's freedom. As far as censorship is concerned, I am fully aware of the P.M.R.C. and the fact that Tipper Gore is a twat waffle. We get censorship from all sides including Conservatives. We had a case here in Georgia, (Gwinnett county, I think) where a woman was trying to get the Harry Potter books banned from school library's. Her reason? The Harry Potter books promoted the occult and witchcraft which, in her mind was against God, and if she thinks it's against God then nobody should be able to read Harry Potter. Yes she is a kook, and yes she is easy to write off, but the fact remains that this religious Conservative attitude permeates the Conservative movement. Remember Ralph Reed and his coalition?

I am a fourth generation Texan. While I am ashamed that GWB shares a part of my heritage, it is nonetheless true that these folks in Minnesota have no clue what illegal immigration really means.
