"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that justifies it."

Thomas Sowell gets this one right, right out of the gate: No one will really understand politics until they understand that politicians are not trying to solve our problems.

Think all of this government borrowing isn't affecting private businesses? Think again.

We knew this one was coming ... Foot Hood shooter Nidal Hasan will likely use the insanity defense.

The Democrats have been telling us the costs of their healthcare bill based on ten year analysis. But there is a difference between what the Democrats call "the first ten years" and the "true first ten years."

The $300 million Medicaid fix that Sen. Mary Landrieu got inserted into the Senate healthcare bill wasn't the first "Louisiana Purchase" of the healthcare debate.

Despite Obama's urgency, 78% of the federal spending authorized by the stimulus bill had not yet been spent by the end of the 2009 fiscal year.

We will have to keep an eye on this story .. Navy SEALs who captured a high-ranking terrorist in Iraq are now facing assault charges for his capture.

Rep. Trent Franks says the idea to house Gitmo detainees in Illinois shows that the Democrats have "at least" come up with "a jobs program." Ha, love it.

A bill currently being worked on in the House: "Let Wall Street Pay for the Restoration of Main Street Act of 2009."

The Democrat plans to tax "Cadillac" insurance plans will hit many middle-class Americans. Here's how.

New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez says that Osama bin Laden should be brought to justice and prosecuted in civilian court.

A refreshing moment of honesty from the lamestream media in Savannah, Georgia.

Legalizing marijuana is gaining a lot of support around the country. Just wait until politicians figure out that they can tax the tar out of it!

This from the Huffington Post: Is Unemployment Obama's Hurricane Katrina?

Are you a Republican? Take the latest Republican litmus test.

The Cato Institute has some facts on executive compensation.

What percentage of hate crimes do you believe are directed at Muslims in this country?

A university is South Carolina is getting nearly $100 million in federal stimulus funds to study wind energy.

Government getting in the way of itself. What's new?

Here is a list of 20 advances in health that we have to be thankful for.

Wow, this is depressing: unemployment rates by county.

What others are saying

  • Bill Cathcart
Bill Cathcart, GM for Savannah's CBS affiliate, has been saying things like that for YEARS. He has an editorial every Monday after the 6:00 news. His statement about the Fort Hood terrorist is par for the course. Here's a link to several of his most recent editorials....enjoy!

  • Louisiana Purchase??
If the health care bill is such a wonderful piece of legislation why the hell do senators and congressmen need to be bribed to vote for it. How much would the bill be reduced if they took out the money they were using to make bribes? How much of the bill is actually health care?
  • Free Pass
The SEALs get a free pass as far as I'm concerned. How many members of the media or Congress did they have as back up that day? That'd be uh...zero, Chuck! Like I thought. They take out the garbage and get their hands slapped.
  • Hoax
"Beginning 1 year after enactment of the Act, you won't be able to sell your home unless you retrofit it to comply with the energy and water efficiency standards of this Act. "

This a hoax. There is nothing in that bill that would require the refit.
  • seals
Here's another problem that will result from this nonsense. Jim Smith you are exactly right. Alot more of the enemy combatants will be shot on site instead of taken into custody. While killing the enemy does seem to be the general purpose of war the problem with killing everyone is the lose of potential intelligence information from them. When spec warriors clear an area they are taught to kill all immediate threats and if possible capture any live combatants for intel. If these guys just go in and clean house (which they are very good at) then we have no potential intel. Human intelligence is vital in any military situation. These assets can be fountains of information. Intel that saves lives both military and civilian. However if these SWs fear reprisals then the simple answer is a double tap. They should not fear their commanders for doing their job. Nor should their commanders fear politicians for doing theirs. In a big rush to look good to the rest of the world we are simply binding the hands, feet and eyes of our military and still expecting them to suceed.

Just in case anyone was wondering...

  • Punishing Navy SEALs
What is BO going to do?
    Fire them?
I and a few million other U.S. Citizens will confess to punching the terrorist dirtbag in the mouth.
    Leave the SEALs alone!
  • Cap and Trade: A License Required for your Home
    Sect. 202:
Building Retrofit Program mandates a national retrofit program to increase the energy efficiency of all existing homes across America .

Beginning 1 year after enactment of the Act, you won't be able to sell your home unless you retrofit it to comply with the energy and water efficiency standards of this Act.

  • The CLOWN that decided to punish the Navy Seals for "mishandling" the Iraqi terrorist owes the Navy Seals, the United States (and the world) a serious apology.

Hey CLOWNIE are you proud of yourself?
  • she is withholdin' valuable information........
okay everybuddy....Joyce M/B....is holdin' out on you.......I sent her some stuff that must be seen by amerika....it's a mug shot array and you have to pick out the "PRINCESS" of the house.......

tell her to post it on her blog.......post it.....post it....post it........xoxoxo
  • Punishing Navy Seals
Punishing Navy Seals because they weren't nice to a terrorist? Unbelievable BS. They should have just killed him and destroyed the body. That's the only way to win the war on terror.
  • BLATANT Misrepresentation by Dems
Come on guys... for those of you (Snarkybird, 3mbw) that still think Congress, and Dems in particular, are kindhearted, straight-arrow little angels that would never lie to you about anything: That link about the first ten years vs. the first true ten years really lays it out for you.

Talk about blatently misleading the public. Sure I can lower the annual cost of anything if I count the years before I even "buy" it!!

These jerkoffs are actually including the years before the plan would even go into effect as part of the cost. Let's put this in perspective, for those of you that still think these guys are your little angels: If a legit business tried an accounting gimmick like that, they'd be committing fraud, and breaking the law!
  • Re: This from the Huffington Post: Is Unemployment Obama's Hurricane Katrina? Just unemployment?
What about the dropping the ball on the Ft. Hood Islamic terrorist?

What about the indecision on Afghanistan?

What about the failed Stimulus bill?
That has a host of what abouts all by it's lonesome

What about the Rahming of Ocrapcare up our...... throats?

What about the first Nuclear terrorist attack?

What about the US government going into default?

What about cap and Tax destroying energy industry?

    What about...

( Bowing Barry had better get something right for once, there's a limit of 500 words on these postings)
  • Hate Crimes and Muslims
Question: What percentage of hate crimes do you believe are directed at Muslims in this country?

    Answer: Not enough
  • Clemson clarifications
Without defending the award, which pains me as a Clemson engineering grad (BS&MS in CompSci), as quite possibly wasteful pork let me clarify two things.

First, according to the article, Clemson is receiving $45M in stimulus funds and "Officials say state and private sources provided $53 million in matching funds, for a total of $98 million." And also that Clemson was not the only award, but was clearly the largest. Fluor Corp., an engineering and construction company with a large campus in Greenville, SC (about 30 miles from CU) is a major partner. Fluor's work around the world includes development of a large wind farm off the coast of the United Kingdom.

Second, as to "the best", anyone could argue. But Clemson is certainly qualified and well positioned. The plan is to build basically a new huge wind tunnel to test & optimize wind turbines. CU has a Wind and Structural Engineering Research Center and a Wind Load Research Laboratory that have played a big part in hurricane safety over the last decade or so. An invention from that work, the HurriQuake nail, was named Popular Science's Innovation of the Year in 2006.

I hate the "stimulus pork" aspect of it all, but just had to step in to defend the alma mater.
  • Navy Seals
Give me a break. They're accused of giving him a fat lip. Makes them look bad if that is the best they could do. Of course he could have given himself a fat lip after he was locked up. Can you imagine what would have happened to these Navy Seals if they had been captured by this jerk. They would have considered a fat lip to be a love bite before they had their heads removed with a dull knife if they were still alive after an extended period of torture. We need to stop trying to look nice and fight fire with fire.
  • @the wiz
I can't speak for VA or PA, although VA seems to have turned the corner this last election, but keep an eye on CO in '10, the folks here are fed up and it doesn't appear that the left will have the minority's or young folks turnout to throw the elections their way this time. I predict that you will see a brignt red CO in the future.
  • Navy Seals and Others
If you just shoot them (double tap to make sure), you don’t have to worry about Miranda rights, or getting accused of mistreating them. He reached for what I thought was a grenade, should work very well as an excuse.
  • he said it first........
thomas sowell was the one that told me...........

    POLITICIANS ARE SCUM.......
  • Seals
I wrote a letter to my Senator concerning this rediculous persecution of the 3 Navy Seals. Take a minute and send out on letter to these politicians and urge them to look into this matter.
Makes me sick to think these guys risk thier lives and have to be care bears at the same time.
    Semper Fi
  • Seals
So whats next murder trials for our troops, and accessory to murder for the commanders issuing the orders. This makes me sick
  • Insanity Defense
Does this mean that devout Muslims will be considered mentally incapable of serving in the United States Military?
  • Did you see how fast?
Did you guys see how fast that unemployment map got after Obama took office? I guess that's change you can believe in....
  • Insanity Defense
If Hasan can plead an insanity defense for commiting jihad then so can the 9-11 defendants. After all they all believe they will get 72 virgins if they kill infidels. The whole Muslim world would have to be declared insane and this is a pretty much universal belief. Don't know what women are promised in this religion. Maybe they get to be one of the 72 virgins.
  • Of course he is insane
It is pretty much common sense that all these psycho mass murderers are insane.
  • Re Clemson
You know why the put artificial turf on the Clemson football field? To keep the cheerleaders from grazing.
  • Republican Test
I don't see anything wrong with the Republican test. Even the only thing they said about abortion, not having the govt paying for it. They should have added the govt shoudn't have to pay for the after affects of not having one. Ain't going to happen. Of course paying for an abortion would be a lot cheaper than supporting the kid for at least 18 yrs and then supporting their kids for the same time, but at least they didn't say some Republicans couldn't be pro-choice.
  • Republican Litmus Test
This was unexpected. I looked all over for a plank that mentioned being pro-life, and it wasn't there. At least one Republican realizes that fight is pointless. Now maybe if he drops the Defense of Marriage Act thing, he'll really be getting somewhere...
  • Clemson gets $100 million for wind energy research
Do you think Senator Lindsey "Goober" Graham's sudden embrace of man-made climate change had anything to do with this $100 million grant OR do you really believe that Clemson was the BEST college in the country to do this research?
  • Rep. litmus test
This will go the way of the "Contract with America". As the song goes, "I need a little less talk, and a lot more action". Oh, one more, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions". Had to get all the trite tripe out before turkey day.
  • Ft. Hood Shooter
Aren't all religious zealots by definition a bit insane?
  • Republican Test
Neal, even YOU would score 8 out of 10 on that Republican litmus test. Are you a Republican now?
  • Keep the change
Here is a fun way we could send a message to Obama but help those at retail stores and restaurants.
Pay to the nearest dollar possible, but tell the cashier 'Keep the Change'.
    OK, it's lame.
  • Unemployment by county
This site is actually very informative. Look at the counties with highest unemployment and they correspond amazingly well with the counties with the highest % of liberals. I'm not surprised. The sad part is that when these liberals leave the areas they destroyed they still take their liberal attitudes with them. That is why states like Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Virginia are slowly turning to Democrat side.
  • Republican Test
if the gave every republican this test i would imagine that 176 would fail and only 1 would pass it.
  • @Jim Smith
Amen to you sir, Jim Smith!! You are dead on!!! My worry is this though, why would anyone want to put his life on the line for this country, if his commanders are not going to back them up when they do their jobs.

For you Hugo's Ghost, 3mbw, Brian Fantana types out there, when you sign a military enlistment contract you are agreeing to put your life on the line for the country.
  • crybaby terrorist
The SEALS captured this guy and this limp-wristed, confectioners hindquarters is crying for his mommy because one the SEALS slugged him? Please.

I understand that the men being charged took a court-martial instead of a different judicial procedure.
They should be exonerated and decorated.

This crap makes me sick. Just like with the KSM situation, look for a lot higher percentage of enemy combatants dying on the spot.
  • Climate Stupidity
I did a cursory glance at the newspapers to see if at least one would follow the giant news of the emails proving global warming is a hoax. Not a single one. How about we get on the comments section of all the major stories and tell people about the news? I bet no one in Chicago has heard about this yet.
  • Republican Test
These points pretty much define the conservative agenda of the current times and in and of themselves I don't have a problem asking our candidates to adhere to them.

The danger is that there are already too many unwritten litmus tests being used (thou shalt not speak unfavorably about Rush Limbaugh for example.)

I don't think either the moderate faction or the talk radio faction will let this list be approved without being changed to suit them.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I invite all to visit my latest blog post where we're taking a break from politics and debating Christmas Music (of course if you are inclined to comment on the political posts your input is welcome).

    Again, Happy Thanksgiving
