Apparently hell froze over. You can now read a Boortz column in the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Here's the first one.

Mark Steyn on the Obama administration's promise to "speak truth to power."

The climate change summit in Copenhagen is just weeks away .. and apparently nothing major is expected to happen because the Obama and the Democrats have failed to pass cap-and-trade legislation in the United States.

What does The Wall Street Journal think of Pelosi's health care bill? How about "The Worst Bill Ever"

Here's a little reminder of why cap-and-trade would be disastrous for our economy.

This jobs "created or saved" nonsense; you're not buying that, are you? Oh, wait. If you would by this "change you can believe in" nonsense you would buy almost anything ... so maybe you should read this.

European leaders want a global fund so that rich nations can contribute and help developing nations fight climate change.

I told you about this one last week .. annual Medicare fraud: $60 Billion; annual profits of top ten insurance companies: $8 billion

The United States has ensured the return of ousted Honduran president Manuel Zelaya. So much for democracy.

Barney Frank's legislation in the House affirms the assumption that too-big-to-fail is not only a reality but a reality that should be acknowledged in law.

Barney Frank also wants financial institutions to pay into a pre-funded trust that would cover the cost of a government takeover, if ever necessary again.

Healthcare reform has become nothing more than a cheesy Washington soap opera starring Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

Obamacare vs. the Hippocratic Oath.

The head of the National Endowment for the Arts is Barack Obama's biggest cheerleader.

George Will explains a current controversy in Washington, where the right to privacy is under assault for resident who sign petitions to trigger reform.

This week will test Obama's political clout, where Obama has endorsed threatened Democrat candidates up for re-election in Virginia, New York and New Jersey.

Is this what President Obama meant when he said this would be the most "transparent administration in history"? Rather than coming up with plausible lies, the administration seems to be fine using the transparent kind.

A simple calculator could figure out that the taxpayers have spent $160,000 per job created/saved by Obama's stimulus plan. But the White House calls this "calculator abuse."

Government should not subsidize health insurance -- for the uninsured, the poor, the elderly or anyone else -- or regulate health insurance markets. Here's why.

Federal banking regulators seized nine more banks.

Rather than trying to read these massive bills coming out of Congress, why don't the politicians sit down and read the Constitution. Seems like some could use a refresher.

One of our favorite brain dead politicians is under full-scale investigation by the House ethics committee.

Taxpayer funded studies on how Congressmen can avoid constituents. Sounds about right.

What happened to Obamamania? Those Obama bumper stickers have been flying off cars since reality set in.

This is what you get when you vote AGAINST a party rather than FOR a party you believe in.

What others are saying

  • Comparison
On the healthcare profits article... what would be more interesting is to add the industry **revenues,** apply whatever the annual growth rate (%) in health care costs is expected to be, multiply by ten (years) and compare to the $1.7T price tag of the senate bill.
The datapoint about just the medicare fraud being several times greater than industry profits is incredible... but it would be more interesting to see this in terms of costs to the public and to the companies paying for our insurance (i.e. the providers' revenues).

First order of business for your column, Neil, should be a good editor. That way, if you slip up and misspell something, such as "utility poll" for "utility pole," it won't appear in print. This is also a good way to avoid those embarrassing dangling participles.

Have you read the AJC!!! LOL, the proofreaders need proofreading. That is one of the worst examples of edited/proofed rags on the market.
  • Re: Steve
I cannot tell if you are being sarcastic or just woefully misinformed. If sarcastic - BRAVO!. Otherwise, each example that you gave of climate vs weather is specious. Both outcomes are the result of weather, NOT climate. Climate is a massive change in the average weather, such as the starting or ending of an ice age. Hurricances, tornadoes, etc. are weather phenomena, not climate. A change in the pattern of the Gulf Stream would be another example of a climate change, as northern Europe would find itself much cooler. BTW, there is contradictory evidence about the role of carbon dioxide in climate. There is evidence that changes in CO2 contentration lags temperature change, rather than leading it. BTW, water and methane also absorb infrared, and there is a lot more water vapor in the air on an average day, than carbon dioxide. The jury is still out, contrary to what Al Gore thinks.
  • Neal on AJC?
Looks like someone at the AJC decided, "Turns out, we DO need to make some money after all..."
  • To tshirt-doctor.com
Oh don't you wish you knew what made Hoover make that quote? The funny thing is that that particular quote came as a result of many secret letters between Hoover and General Nathan Twining. The truth is that Hoover WAS aware of a real life conspiracy that fit those parameters.
  • Jake Tapper's report on Jobs created $160,000 per job.
So let me get this straight...one of the guys whose an advisor to the president that is reporting on the "success" of the stimulis is named DeSeve. Is that pronounced like 'deceive'? Too funny. His name says it all.
  • Well this is obvious:
"To read all 1,427 pages of Waxman-Markey," the Post fretted, "it would take at least 12 hours — tough on a tight legislative timeline."

Hey you dolts, if you don't have time to read it then don't pass it!!!! Or, hey, here's a brilliant idea: Make the bill shorter....MUCH shorter-- maybe take out all the pork filling.

    The arrogance of these smucks.

These jerkwads that want to control every facet of your life don't have time to be bothered with the actual details. But, I bet that would change right away if they couldn't exempt themselves from everything they pass.

Hey Snarky and crew: Putting our differences aside, doesn't THIS bother you in the slightest??
  • Obamamania to Obmadyspepsia in Virginia
Well, a personal appearance by Obama actually made things worse for the democrats in Virginia, a State that voted for the Great Stimulator last November. Its crisis time for the democrats now. Acorn to the rescue.

  • Various...
Boortz Column: excellent! A reason to read the Saturday paper.

Speak Truth to Power: golly-gosh. I practice this with myself!!!

Medicare Fraud/Insurance Company Profit: Interesting. How about making SOMEONE accountable for Medicare fraud. Isn't there someout in D.C. who's responsible for this?

The Arts: Art should support itself. I just despise my tax dollars being used for art of any kind.

Calculator Abuse: I was talking to my calculator, Casio, this weekend. He threatened to stop working unless his computations supported the right. He went out with the trash this morning.

Congressional Constituant Avoidance Fund: They don't need any studies, they already know how to do this - on both sides.

Daylight Saving Time: My circadian rhythm is a bit off today. I will speak truth to power re: my circadians.
  • Conservatives= Hypacrites
I love how conservatives spent 8 years bending over to big businesses and then once they start failing they want them to be on their own.
  • 80 billion is just the tip of the iceberg
Medicare is ripped off because it isn't profit driven. Insurance companies look for patterns of abuse and deal with them directly. Abuse is not fraud but it steals 10 times as much money from Medicare than actual fraud.

Here is a good example of abuse. An internist does a quicky residency and becomes credentialed to read medical ultrasound studies. He buys his own cheapo ultrasound machine and orders studies on every patient remotely meeting medicare criteria. He then bills Medicare for the studies and the interpretations of those studies, even though the scan was performed and read by the tech. Voila', a new fat revenue stream for the cost of a tech's salary and and lease payments on the cheapo ultrasound machine.
I have hundreds of other examples and have seen most of them. The problem is that Medicare is a non-profit driven government disaster that can't fix itself. The only possible solution for Medicare is to cut reimbursement.
  • Offended
Please add disrespected to your list.

Being offended and disrespected are very popular emotions with many minority cultures.

The only problem is, to be disrespected means that some respect would have to have been in place at the start place.

This is just not the case so the whole expression is erroneous.

How can I DISrepect you if I never REspected you in the first place?

Come up with some better cliches - morons.

I also am fond of the be that as it may, with all due respect, at this juncture and at any rate people.

Immediately knocks you down several rungs on the evolutionary ladder for brain function.
  • Wrecking the health care of around 280 billion to improve the health care of around15 billion is stupid, so of course the left is all for it.
It’s the control they really want. They need it to try and put off the collapse of social security and medicare/aid.

How many dp politicians of either party can even understand the language the Founding Fathers used? What’s more important, and far more difficult, is to get the general public to understand the Constitution, and its’ language. Then politicians can’t misrepresent what it says or means.

The foxes are investigating their fellow foxes over a chicken coop incident. That’s reassuring.

That sounds like a study born of the summer of ’09. I guess they noticed.

That’s how fads like obamania are, you can’t expect much more out of the people that would fall for him.

Typical guardian writer, it’s a bad thing if the USA holds others to their agreements with us. They have no answer to what hussein would certainly be doing in response to the mad mullahs nuke program, or how they would have found out about, much less stopped khadaffy’s program or the khan proliferation network.
  • Lets just sum up...
Basically what Neal is telling you here is that the New World Order is being created as we speak. He did so without mentioning the words "New" "World" "Order". That is pretty impressive because they are pretty much telling us on a daily basis that "the New World Order" is emerging. I can google The New World Order and I can find probably 3000 hits from just the past week or so. Isn't it interesting that so many media outlets are starting to run with this story yet if you talk about The New World Order you are a conspiracy theorist? How does that work? They are telling you point blank that it is real and then condeming you to silence if you try to ask questions about it.
  • Hussein’s head of the most powerful office in the world, yet somehow he’s still a powerless victim
If they want to pretend they aren’t socialists, maybe they should lay off the socialist slogans and sayings.

Thank God the dp is stuck on the health care takeover, delaying implementation of their energy racket. They’ll still waste the fuel to party and hobnob in Copenhagen.

“Worst bill ever,” is about what I’d expect from that bird brain Pelosi.

The damage cap and trade would do to our economy is difficult to impossible to calculate, because energy supply and price effects everything.

In nine months the dp went from creating millions of jobs to ‘saving’ hundreds of thousands of government jobs. Ain’t it funny how the standards of success change depending on the party in power.

What’s stopping European leaders from starting such a ‘climate’ fund and putting their money in it? Nothing but the fact that it’s our money they are really after.

$8 billion health insurance profits and $60 billion in Medicare (I wonder how much Medicaid fraud would add to that) fraud, yet the government is going to somehow cut costs and increase quality and availability when they take the rest of the system? That’s beyond blind faith and into stupid beyond belief.

On Honduras, so much for Constitutional Republic. Commies are fine with democracy, especially when they (zelaya, chavez, etc…) know the vote tally before any votes are cast. Let me know when hussein and the dp support anyone but another commie against commies.

Barney frank isn’t that slick a shyster, he’s just smarter than the idiots on the other side of the aisle.

Everything in the dp is a cheesy soap opera. It’s half the amateurish and hopelessly biased msm’s fault.

We’ve ‘progressed’ beyond those silly ancient moral codes to those of marx, Lenin, and mao.

This NEA hussein worshiper obviously didn’t go in for the literary arts, or their history. Is it any wonder they were telling government grant recipients to do works that praise hussein and his policies (as if they needed to, that’s what’s dumbest about them doing it)?

Yea, the dp is big on speaking truth to power, that’s why they go after anyone with a differing opinion that attempts to do so. Their attacks on the secret ballot and the privacy of petitioners don’t extend to. One of these days they will attempt to intimidate the wrong person. I hope I’m up for jury duty then.

It’s bad news for hussein if he loses his coattails this early.

It’s not like hussein and the dp will be called on their transparent hypocrisy and broken promises by the msm.

Any calculations that show how wasteful and ineffective the dp idea of ‘stimulus’ is, are by definition calculator abuse by the dp, who are usually off in their cost estimates by a factor somewhere between two and 10.
  • "I'm Offended"
Neal, last Thursday, I think, you wondered how to respond to those PC kooks who say they are 'offended' by some/any remark made that runs contrary to another's stated opinion/act/etc...

So I've been using this - quite successfully for years:

Apparently there is a little known and hidden right created in the constitution, that everyone has said right to not be offended. That, then, would also apply to me; so when someone tells me that I have offended them by something I've said or done, my response is "I have every right that you have to be offended, and so I am offended that you are offended."

The haarrrummpphh that follows is indicative of the foolishness of such a right, leading me to feel that this right should be fully removed from the Constitution.

And while I'm at it, who remembers one of the goofy beginnings for our need to spend gazillions for the furtherment of protectionist society? And I quote... "If, by spending this $xxxxxxxxx.xx we save just ONE life, it will have been worth it!" Remember when that was so popular??? So apparently that has morphed into... "If we insure just 2% of our society by spending a trillion and a half dollars, it will have been worth it."
  • Jack in Dayton
    huh?
  • Investigations
No matter what these half-arse investigations find, there will be no repercussions.

The investigations will be deemed incomplete and inconclusive.

Democrats will claim they are being targeted unfairly since there will be more democrats investigated than others.

If the majority of those investigated are some non Caucasian ethnicity, racism will come into play.

Gender will come into play. Disrespect will be an operative word.

The investigations will be run by people that are friendly with the people being investigated and anything negative will cut off their cash cow.

Any results will be published such that it does not find any "major" violations, everything is really okay, and the money and time was all wasted.

It will be a big story for a little while, but then peter out like so many before it.

Nobody will follow through and there will be no justice served.

    Nothing will change.
  • Can't spend the pork-salad stimulus money
because there isn't any cash in the till - the gub'mint can't find enough suckers dumb enough to buy enough bonds to come up with the cash ...
  • A prefunded trust....
.... would that be like something like the Social Security lock box? A fund that is raided until such time that it is actually needed?
  • Calculator Abuse....
The ONLY reason for the stimulus was to create jobs. Had we remained at 4.5% unemployment, there would have been no reason whatsoever for the the stimulus package. In actuality, the stimulus package was nothing more than pork for congressional constituents. Almost none has been spent and almost no jobs have been created. It has been one big boondoggle.
  • "He Came, He Saw, He Stimulated
That quote from Mark Steyn is hilarious.
Is that on a bumper sticker somewhere? Someone scratched up my "Hopey Changey Thing" bumper sticker at Wall Mart the other day and I need to replace it.
  • Honduras
The United States has ensured the return of ousted Honduran president Manuel Zelaya. So much for democracy.

    Should read:

The United States has ensured the return of ousted Honduran president Manuel Zelaya. So much for rule of law.
  • Global warming
It seems a lot of people are confused by the difference between climate and weather. Climate is a long term pattern while weather is short term and erratic. CO2 affects climate over the long run. Here are some examples:

    * If South Dakota gets a huge blizzard in May it's just weather. If a huge hurricane hits the US it's climate.

    * If the northeast has the coolest summer in 30 years it's weather. If the northeast has its hottest summer in 30 years it's climate.

    * If tornado alley has few tornados in a given year it's weather. If a massive tornado hits Florida, it's climate.

    * If the midwest experiences far more rain than normal some summer it's weather. If the midwest experiences a summertime drought, it's climate.

    * If Boulder Colorado gets so much snow that their season is extended an extra month, it's just weather. If Robins return to the north a week ahead of schedule, it's climate.

I hope that clears things up for you knuckle-dragging neocons.
  • George Will
Basically Will can bugger himself. Typical rockefeller pseudo republican, neo-conservative, anti-populist, Russell Kirk top lofty, elitist, 2 measly cheers for capitalism HORSE CRAP: daring, PRESUMING--EARLY in his sewage spewing--to conflate the thuggish pseudo liberalism in the state of Washington against undeniably good sterling people just trying to maintain some personal safety while pushing a homo-fobic agenda, & the fine noble resolve of the state government of Alabama in the 1950s doing what it could in the name of state rights & article 10 of the federal bill of rights to neutralize the communist inspired agitation, militance, trouble making & incitement of minority uppitiness of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, a KNOWN NOTORIOUS communist front organization even BEFORE J Edgar Hoover formally verified said fact. F--- him, f--- his sympathizers, f--- his critics who hedge their objections with do gooder qualifications & f--- the sort of people who call me out of line for saying f--- him & all those others. The success of the avid drive for minority civil rights was an unalloyed DISASTER to America & ANY use as a bad example of ANY part of the opposition & resistance thereto is what is actually out of line. He could have found another example for his analogy & thus spared the volatile sensibilities of his arch conservative, psychologically authoritarian ethno-centric caucasian readers but he just HAD to jab THAT raw nerve! Well, F--- HIM. Some one inform him to be extra grateful at least ONE of his far right detractors yet has too much to lose. We will see for how long.
  • "What happened to Obamamania? Those Obama bumper stickers have been flying off cars since reality set in."

Not this again, what is this obsession with bumper stickers?

Reality: Obama's bumper stickers are just as prevelant as they were 10 months ago. In fact now that the weather is getting cooler we're starting to see some Obama jackets out there.

Forget the "bumper stickers are diappearing" pipedream, it simply isn't happening.
  • Zelaya probably not returning
Suprise, this article in the NYT got it wrong. Zelaya has to get past the supreme court and the full congress, both of whom voted overwhelmingly against him already. It's not as bad as this article makes it look.
  • 1989 pages too many
So after the House rewrote the rewrites, the Bill is now 1990 pages and only a few in the House actually know what's in it? Holy Sierra Hotel India Tango! That's just freakin' wonderful! And we are supposed to trust these guys? Not a chance. Grab your pitchforks fellas, it's time to clean House, literally!
