OBAMA'S JOB SUMMIT

Unemployment hit 10.2%.  Who knows, maybe it will rise even more.  Hopefully for the sake of many Americans, this will be the worst of it.  But the Democrats and the Obama administration are starting to get nervous.  They worry that the longer you are out of a job, the longer you have to sit there and wonder whether or not your representatives in Washington are really doing what is best for our economy.  They know you have a vote.  So they want to look like they are doing to something to solve this problem.  I know .. we'll have a jobs summit!

That's exactly what Obama plans to do.  He is inviting investors, CEOs, small-business owners, academics, nonprofit officials and labor and financial figures to the White House for a jobs summit.  The focus of this summit, according to Obama, will be why employers aren't hiring.  Duh!  Obama notes that businesses are increasing employee hours and adding temporary workers but "have not yet been willing to take the steps necessary to hire again."

Let me give you a little clue as to why this is the case.

First ... taxes.  All three of the DC heavy hitters, Obama, Reid and Pelosi, are proposing new taxes on business owners.  Oh yeah ... they position these taxes as merely attempts to make the evil, disgusting, filthy, putrid, rancid rich pay "their fair share,"  but every additional tenth of a percent of income tax you're told is being levied on "high income earners" is, in reality, a tax on business owners --- the very business owners who now employ about 70% of Americans with jobs and who are providing 80% of the new jobs.  Now you ObamaBots out there tell me --- since you have all the answers --- why would a business owner who is facing:

  1. A nearly 5% increase in his income taxes when the Bush tax cuts expire
  2. Another 5.4% increase in his income taxes with Pelosi's rich bastards surtax
  3. An increase in his Medicare taxes pursuant to Harry Reid's wishes
  4. The prospect of paying Social Security taxes on every single penny he earns
  5. God knows what else

Why oh why would this person stick his neck out right now and try to expand his business and hire new workers?  He's in the freaking cross-hairs, for goodness' sake, and you want him to act like everything is hunky dory and get out there and hire people?

Now with taxes out of the way, the government must stop this outrageous spending spree.  Spending more money is not going to create jobs.  Studying grandparents in Alaska, building puppets in Atlanta and studying tadpoles in Wyoming is not going to grow our economy.  We have already seen that with this $787 billion economic stimulus bill.  The stimulus package was a private sector jobs killer.  Only one state has seen an increase in private sector employment since this idiotic stimulus bill was passed .. and that was North Dakota ... and that's because they hired a new snow plow driver.

Some of you might be okay with the idea that jobs are jobs.  You don't care if they are in the government or the private sector .. at least people are working.  Well I can assure you that relying on government jobs to turn around our unemployment rate is the wrong way to go.  The Cato Institute explains it best:

The reason is private sector jobs tend to be more productive than government jobs, and there is a considerable cost (i.e., dead weight loss) when government extracts monies from the private sector by taxing or borrowing to pay for the government jobs. Therefore, countries with large government sectors, like France and Germany, tend to have much higher unemployment rates than countries with smaller government sectors.

Another problem that is hindering job growth is our weakening dollar.  I've explained what is happening with our dollar lately.  Our spending and borrowing isn't getting us anywhere in terms of strengthening our currency.  Did you know that a drop in the dollar has the same effect as a tax increase on the American consumer?  Think about that.  The weaker our dollar becomes, the less you can buy for everyone one dollar.  This has the same effect as if you were paying more in taxes.  The same goes for businesses.  The weaker their buying power, the less inclined they are to hire.

So if I, the Talkmaster, were invited to this jobs summit in Washington, here is what I would suggest.

  1. Do not increase taxes on Americans by letting the Bush tax cuts expire
  2. Get spending under control.  Rather than spend more money trying to create   jobs, try and get spending under control and the economy with correct itself
  3. Pass the FairTax.
  4. Find something for Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to do that won't be so damaging to our Republic.  Give them some old alarm clocks to take apart and re-assemble.

I don't think I have to explain to you why #3 would work wonders for our economy.

What others are saying

As a small business owner I can't blame the government in their taxes and health care costs, as being the blame of why my business is suffering, suffering so much that I can't hire new people.

Its because my clients aren't paying their bills, maybe they aren't paying their bills because of the taxes and health care cost. But I don't see the solution being left up to the government, instead businesses, especially businesses that hire other businesses, should keep their account current. If my clients actually paid their bills on time I might have enough cash flow coming it to help pay new employees.

    When will that happen?

  • We've Seen This Before
During the recession of 1920-1921 and again after the Great Crash of 1929, Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover organized "jobs summits".
  • The dp will love and hug and squeeze the economy until it don’t move no more.
Hussein invited, “Academics, nonprofit officials and labor,” among those who actually create jobs, to his photo op. They will do all hussein knows how to do, sit around, grin for the cameras, talk about generalities with pretty words, and pretend to be presidential. What are we paying his economic advisors for anyway?

The Hill article says, “The GOP argues the stimulus was mismanaged,” when the main GOP objection then and now is that it was misdirected, the mismanagement is incidental and expected. The GOP politician contradicts the ‘journalists’’ own (no attribution) assessment in the next two paragraphs. Funny how often that happens in the msm, they can’t keep their bias in check even with two authors.

Hussein says, they “…have not yet been willing to take the steps necessary to hire again,” as if he had a clue what he was talking about. Hussein acts like their reluctance (inability is more like it) to rehire laid off workers or hire new ones is just a lack of courage on their part.

What small business is going to participate in, “… a program that provides small businesses with new loans,” and incur more debt, when they don’t have, and (with this, and next year’s tax increases) can’t see the future sales to justify the expansion, much less to pay back the government loans?

The government is already dictating how other companies it lent money will be run, what strings they will retroactively attach to these loans? They’ve already demonstrated they can and will. Who knows, they MIGHT stop at just dictating compensation and leave policy, but takers will be betting the farm on it three ways from Sunday.
  • Obama’s “Government” Job Summit
“Who knows, maybe it will rise even more.”

Are you kidding? First real unemployment is about 17.5% and rising.

If we don’t do something really serious by about the first quarter of 2010 to reverse the current third world banana republic fiscal and monetary policies my predictions for the first quarter or second quarter of 2011 are price inflation of about 6% per month (that’s more that 100% per year, 101.22 to be more exact), real unemployment approaching 40% and a worldwide run on the dollar (could actually happen in 2010).

Your 4 suggestions are great, however. How about a constitutional convention? How about these suggested amendments and repeals – balanced budget, repeal of the 16th and 17th Amendments, an amendment to control money creation, an amendment to deep-six the “living” document make it up as you go along sophistry finally for all time.
  • Alex, I'll take "fantasyland capitols" for $200....
and the answer is.."300 square miles surrounded by reality(hint: its not disney owned although leaders of both lands share similar unusualy large ears and a"goofy" second in command)......what is Washington DC?..THATS CORRECT FOR $200..choose your next catagory,please....(help me please..i've been held hostage by a tv gameshow for months..send help or a least beer)
  • Neals idea's
I really liked #3. Maybe we could hook up some detonators and high explosives to those alarm clocks, as well.
  • damn I just had an idea.......
osamabama is goin' to china......we owe them a butt load of muney......soooo they hold him 'til we pay up.....uuuuuum aaaaaah.......whadda ya think?????????

    pay????? or not pay......

crap I'm broke!!....you got sum muney??????
  • Wait? He's inviting...
... investors, CEOs, small-business owners, academics, nonprofit officials and labor and financial figures to the White House for a jobs summit.

Gee... isn't that Owl Gore all rolled up in one?
  • you gotta be kiddin'.........
repeal the Community Reinvestment Act Program????

    no CRAP???????hahahahaha
  • basic
Get out of the "job creating" racket and enable the companies of all sizes that actually create REAL jobs.
  • It's a ploy
The summit is a ploy to keep us thinking that he actually wants to "help" the people of the United States. In the mean time, he and his minions do everything they can to undermine business, minimize its productivity, and increase down sizing. Thus creating large unemployment lines filled with people looking to the government for help. If you can't find a good crisis to exploit - create one.
  • Just an Observation
OP- Between your short term memory and selective thought, you should do stand up comedy! LMAO

OBSERVATION - Have most of you noticed the more Obama and crew carry on the fewer libs you see around defending them? (Not just here either)

    AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER!
  • gov job vs private job
When the government creates a job, it means they took money from
the private sector to pay the government employee.
This has the potential to increase the economy _IF_ AND ONLY IF
the government job is useful to the private sector.
For example the police are useful to the private
sector by keeping workers safe from crime and able to do their jobs.
Each policeman may serve to protect
several thousand private workers and thus many jobs are created
    by that one government job.

However, there are many government jobs which are not useful to the
    private sector.
The money taken to create one non useful government job
decreases the jobs in the private sector by exactly one.

By and large most of the new government jobs are not useful
to the private sector so there is no net gain of jobs.
  • @ Jack Smythe
Jack, Please define "millionaires" for me? Are you using the KPMG, PWC accounting definition ( $1,000,000 in assets above liabilities) or the Dick Gephart (D-MO retired) version ( work 50 years at 20K per year and your a millionaire)? It's not hard to have a business and plow your retained earnings back and have a net worth of a million and not live the life of a "millionaire", far from it. As Neckid would say "Please splain that to me"? And please remember as an "S" corp those retained earnings were taxable income to the owner.
  • Like TS says
You're right TS, it's all a dog and pony show in attempt to appease the dum-basses. Then we'll watch the unemployment rate go up some more as the real numbers catch up.
  • More items for jobs summit
    #6 Repeal Sarbannes-Oxley
    #7 Tort Reform
  • #5
Don't forget the fifth item on your to-do list at the jobs summit: Repeal the Community Reinvestment Act
  • Huh?
Does this mean they're all going to sit around a patio table, having a beer and eating peanuts? And then say they accomplished something?
  • Coincidence
Well Optimus if you want to point fingers, the Bush economy was the best this country has ever seen. It all fell apart after Obama started running for president. Coincidence? Makes as much sense as what you said.
  • @Jack Smythe
    Hey Jack,

You I'm sure you can afford to lose a couple fingers and toes..who really needs all of those? Since you can afford to lose it anyway, why don't I just take it from you?

Who are you to decide who deserves to keep what amount of what they EARN?

Keep your hands out of my wallet, thief.
  • Well OP
    Bring back the Clinton Economy
I havent seen an excellent economy since Bill was in office. Although it is nice to see the Dow going up after Bush was flushing our economy down the toilet for 8 years.
    By Optimus Prime

You do realize that Newt wrote most of those bills that Clinton is credited for, right?
  • What a jerkwad
What jerkwad arrogant idiot community organizer. First he declares outright war on business, does everything he can to punish them for their success...and then wonders why they aren't trying to expand. No common sense whatsoever in these liberal idiots.

Actually, worse than just stupidity, I think this jerkwad knows what he's doing and is just having the 'jobs summit' to give the appearance of giving a rat's turd-- which he really doesn't. Sort of like with his asking for ideas to create jobs: I seriously doubt he'll even bother to look at them.
  • Jobs Summit
Does this remind anyone of Jimmy wearing a sweater in answer to the oil shortage problem?
  • Summits are substitutes
Once again, O needs his ego and id massaged by the sycophantic press coverage of inept presidential political procrastination.
This guy must be re-living the mental equivalent of his puberty years on a viagra-like induced self-aggrandizing scale.
  • ?????
Wait, wasn't the 'Chosen One' supposed to have all his junk under one armpit before he took office? At least the first two or three months in. So now all these people the DNC has spent time and money alienating need to tell the rookie what has to take place? That's really impressive! Rahm the Bomb and Axeldork didn't have a gameplan? Oh, 2012, please get here so we can either run these guys out of DC or let the world end on 12/21/12! We can't be any worse off.
  • Assuming that they care
When will folks get it through their heads that these politicians don't give a rat's hindquarters about whether they ever find a job? Let's really be intellectually honest here- both liberals and conservatives- Isn't this just a concern because Obama and company are worried about the next election? That's it isn't it. They just worry about the next election. We idiots go out there and get charmed by the snake-oil salesman, vote them in again, and guess what? They only worry about the next election again.

Isn't welfare to corporations and individuals wrong? Can't that money be spent better by the people who earn it? If I own a store, and I want to expand, but that expansion will only lead me to paying higher taxes, will I ever expand?

Let's take the politics out of it. Democrat/ Republican/ Libertarian/ Socialist is all a sideshow. It boils down to this- either you want government to run every facet of your well-being, or you don't...'nuff said.

Now it's Friday...I'm bringing the Pizzas, and they are steaming-hot!!!
  • Clinton Economy
OP must be inhaling. That economy was bolstered by Reagan's tax cuts (which would have been bigger if not for demo's digging in their heels). This is typical liberal garbage....thousands of $$$ for a "summit" to talk and not act. Obama is, as they say in Texas, all hat and no cattle.
  • Neal's Economic Summit
Number 4 would be the most effective.
  • jobs
Yea, prime, that full employment during the Bush years was awful!
  • Lefty vs Righty
Neal stated that he hopes the current unemployment figures have peaked and will be going down, even though the high number is harmful to The Great Stimulator. Neal, a Righty, cares more about the American people than any harm these numbers will have for the president.
But I remember the joy and excitement on the faces of the left in congress and the main stream media when they announced the poor economic numbers, troop deaths, and other bad news about America when Bush was president.
Unlike the right, the left cares more about the political ramifications of bad news for America than how that bad news effects the average American.
For the left, politics always trumps compassion.
  • Most small business owners aren't millionaires?
A good 70% to 80% of all jobs are created by small business owners. Most small business owners aren't millionaires. Nor do they bring home enough profit or salary (after they take all their business-related tax deductions) to be impacted by these surtaxes.

Large business owners, celebrities, pro-athletes, CEOs and other executives, investors anod others that do bring home humongous amounts of money can probably afford to pay these surtaxes. Many rich business owners choose to reinvest and expand or improve their operations in order to minimize their tax bill. And then there are tax loopholes that the rich have and will continue to enjoy.

And we certainly lined the pockets of many rich bankers with our TARP bailouts and with the 0% interest loans that the treasury provides to Wall Street corporations. Too bad the small business owners can't get access to these "free" taxpayer loans. They create most of the jobs after all.
  • Bring back the Clinton Economy
I havent seen an excellent economy since Bill was in office. Although it is nice to see the Dow going up after Bush was flushing our economy down the toilet for 8 years.
  • Jobs
Has a single representative put out the idea of giving tax incentives to companies that hire or outsource less jobs out of the country? No?
  • Think?
We all know what the answers are to this rpoblem, and Neal said it right with his solutions. But doing those things means DC giving up power, and snowballs will survive you know where before that happens. My answer is like Neal's, but add on to that November 2010.
