"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that justifies it."

What others are saying
Ghost Riders
Just goes to show you that you don't know what you got until you lose it. I think music stopped being music around 1975 and turned into some type of annoying industrial background noise.
Just one question...
Where were the bubbles?
Ghost Riders
Wow! I had no idea!- the Outlaws did a good job with it, as did Vaughn Monroe, but my favorites were the Ventures instrumental version, and the Sons of the Pioneers.
The video may have seemed pre-recorded as it was a kinescope. It was shot off a video screen. This practice was common several years after videotape was invented because ad agencies wanted to have undisputable proof of an ad's airing. This bodes well for preservationists as cheap-skates were prone to erase videotapes for reuse.
As for funny watch the Kristen Wiig videos.
Acid House
Timothy Leary saw this on his parents b.w philco and went back to the lab and invented acid.
memory lane???????
now where did I leave my glasses.......where the hell we goin'??????
lawrence welk....didn't he play for the 49ers.......where the hell we goin'????
Lawrence Welk
Although you wouldn't have caught me dead watching Lawrence Welk as a teenager, I did and still do appreciate the musicianship of real musicians, as opposed to the Kanye West and Ludicrous of our day. What is hard to appreciate is the big band music of Welk was for the days of radio (with sound effects and all), when people actually sat by their radios TO LISTEN to LIVE music from studios, hotel ballrooms and stages like the Grand Ol' Opry, etc. Welk kept at least those musicians making a living.
surf guitar
The Ventures are the best band in the world. I compiled their best tracks to create the best CD of all time.
Dick Dale rocks, too.
I always get confused....
..with "Riders In The Sky" shown in all their glory here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv-faHqmiVM
You will NOT be disappointed!
They started
playing before L.W. was done talking. I bet it was Bush's fault! Thnx for posting Neil.
Lawrence Welk video
Need more cowbell
To ViperATL and Jenny
Great minds think alike. The Outlaws did a great version. Check out Dick Dale's rendition. I think you'll love it. I'm going to listen to both when I get home tonight.
Jenny, maybe your just missing great memories associated with the music of that era. If your too young to remember you'll just have to sit this one out and let us oldsters amble down musical, memory lane.
With love from Tough Love.
Mmmm ....
Nice! As a guitarist I was drooling over the vintage gear.
Ghost rider
If you have to ask , you do not get it.
A Lot Better than People Think
I used to think these guys were the epitome of "square" but listening to them now, I realize they were all monster musical talents. What a great collection of musicians. I guarantee you these guys could play anything, not just the "champagne music" Welk arrangements.
Neal LaVang
A recent issue of "Vintage Guitar" magazine profiled Neal LeVang. He was basically a hired gun in the band, replacing Buddy Merrill for a time in the early 60's, while Buddy was in the Army. LeVang is alive and well and in retirement, doesn't play anymore though.
I'm a huge fan of the late 50's very early 60's Welk orchestra, before "Calcutta" came along. Jerry Burke on the Hammond organ looked totally disinterested. Neat to see Alladin and Bob Lido from the string section playing percussion. The chorus looked as fake as their performace was that evening.
EVERYONE was playing to a pre-recorded track. Yes, Lawrence Welk was the original Milli-Vanilli!
Still love Stan Freberg's send up of Welk "Wunnerful Wunnerful" and for a more recent spoof, try to find the "Ballad of Lawrence Welk" by the group "Those Darn Accordions."
Thanks for posting and congrats on the HOF induction Mr. Boortz.
Only one thing missing...
Just wondering if I'm the only one that wanted to see European and African swallows winging it across the video!
Vaughn Monroe
This version is good, as is the one by Johnny Cash, but the most haunting was the the original from 1949 by Vaughn Monroe. I'm not trying to be a music snob, but I'd like folks today to hear the old version to hear where it all started. It can be found on Youtube with the search phrase "Vaughn Monroe ghost riders in the sky"
That was HARD CORE.
I remember seeing a Welk clip in which he referred to the one black dude on the show as "a real credit to your race." Mighty white of him, no? I always liked the bubbles...
Nice.
Good start on a Monday. However, the group Riders in the Sky do a better job. But then, I am biased.
Truly...
now that's music!!!Thx. Neal.
Guitar Hero
Is there some sort of relation to the better guitar you play, the calmer you appear to be? Look at some of these lead guitar players in rock bands today as they play simple three note riffs with maxed out distortion while they jump up and down with an expression that looks like they're trying to pass a kidney stone.
Lawrence Welk
My grandmother's house didn't have air conditioning except in the 'front room'. We would sit in the front room with the AC blowing full blast and watch Lawrence Welk and Hee Haw. Brings back memories.
Ghost Riders
Very nice,I love that tune. I prefer the OUTLAWS cover version, with whips cracking in the background. What worries me,is the fact that I'M really digging this Lawrence Welk thing.Would that be considered a senior moment? Nice Fender Strat also. Webwench, any date on this video
WOW...
If only Lawrence had been doing the polka with one of those old biddies from the audience, it woulda been PERFECT!
That was cool!!
So what?
What was that all about?
Lawrence Welk meets Velvet Underground
Funny . . .but not as good as:

That Ruled
As a fan of many music genres, sometimes there's nothing more awesome than good old fashioned guitar magic. This was such an occasion.
DAMN
That was amazing, I needed that pick me up after Saturday...
Ghost Rides in the Sky
Awesome Thank you
Boortz singing karaoke?
Admit it, Neal. You used this to sing karaoke this weekend. Maybe you will sing it again for your fans.
Ghost Riders
I dont know what year that was. I remember being at my Grandma's house and she always had that show on. It was mind numbing boring to me as a little kid.
If they did more of this, I would have probably looked forward to the show.
That arrangement was awsome in every way and the folks that saw it that night were part of something special.
What was awesome about that?
First, it was pre-recorded as you can tell by the fade-out at the end. But besides that, what was so great about it? What am I missing?
Awesome
I bet that old dude gets more nursing home tail than the Geritol region rep. Awesome.
Cool is timeless
That was great.
I'd take Mr Welk anyday over today's stuff
Neal,
I'd take some of Mr. Welk's content any day over the crap that has been coming out of the music industry over the past few decades, be it rock and roll or hip-hop...... at least, Mr. Welk's music did not engage in anti-American, misogynist, hippie-values promoting crap where dope is glorified along with violence and a whole lot of other nonsense....lyrics never made sense for me...gimme old school any day over this post-1960s b.s.
Ghost Rider
That was great! Now I need to break out the Outlaws CD and crank that up for a break.
