FAVORS FOR TRIAL LAWYERS

What have the Democrats managed to tuck into this 1,900 page healthcare bill? Well how about goodies like this ... uncovered by BigGovernment.com:

Section 2531, entitled "Medical Liability Alternatives," establishes an incentive program for states to adopt and implement alternatives to medical liability litigation. [But]...... a state is not eligible for the incentive payments if that state puts a law on the books that limits attorneys' fees or imposes caps on damages.

Well that's rather obvious, isn't it? Just what in the hell does this have to do with health care reform? How does protecting trial lawyer's contingency fees improve the delivery and quality of health care to the American people? It is a gift from Nancy Pelosi directly to trial lawyers ... trial lawyers who contribute tens of millions of dollars to Democrats in every election year. Any changes made on medical liability lawsuits will not be allowed to affect the livelihood for her beloved trial lawyers.

What else appears in Nancy's healthcare bill? Well I talked to Jamie Dupree last week about the fact that the world "shall" appears 3,425 times. Here are a few more .. how about the fact that the bill requires at least 42 studies. The word "report" also appears 364 times and "tax" is used 214 times.

By the way, with 1,900 and a cost of $894 billion, that comes out to about $2.24 million per word.

What others are saying

  • One lawyer, two lawyers
One lawyer in a small town will starve. Two lawyers in a small town will both get rich.
  • Mr. Meyer
A lawyer is, most of the time, an intermediary between some one (or some company) and the government.
I get nauseous every time I hear a lawyer use the phrase "officer of the courts" in reference to themselves. So which is it? Private sector or part of the government?
Lawyers are a dime a dozen these days and their fees ought to reflect that free market fact.
Lawyers produce nothing, and if the legal profession weren't working overtime in our legislatures to ensure the people can't get by without one, well, they'd earn about the same as school teachers. No doubt, many do.
  • Good one Randy
It sure worked well last time GA seceded from the Union. Not to mention the last person to mention seceding was the governor of Texas who not only took federal stimulus money, but also cried to the CDC about getting more swine flu vaccinations. No state will be able to survive w/o the federal government.
  • Anyone care to explain how loser pays interferes with private contracts or the private sector?
Crooked shysters like john edwards (and their large donations that over 90% of go to the dp) are more important to dp 'reform' or dp run health care than doctors and hospitals.
  • <sigh> Lane, Lane, Lane...and you claim to be a lawyer.
Lane...the government is intervening. They are telling the states you don't get to take from teh doll unless you do this, this and that. Well thats a nice try at a Constitutional dodgy by the Feds. They don't have the rigth to do so per the 10th but hey the masses are too stupid to notice.

By not allowing the States to decide...the government is peforming and intervention.
  • Proof that conservatives are crybabies and hypocrites
What is wrong w/ trial lawyers? We are part of the private sector. Why dont conservatives quit crying and let the private sector do their jobs w/o government intervention?
  • Tort Reform???
A much better answer is for ALL the states to enact "Loser Pays" all costs reform. The number of bites at the Litigation Lotto would decrease and so would health care costs, as doctors would not have to practice defensive medicine.
  • Simpler language wouldn't hurt
Well, Fred, why the heck doesn't it just say that? Point is that it doesn't and that means this can be interpreted a couple of different ways by judges and we all know it'll be interpreted just one particular way.
  • I thought you'd approve of that wording.
It restricts the government from interfering in private contracts between lawyers and their clients.

I know, I know... you're just pointing out the hypocrisy.
  • Gotta dance with the one that brung ya
The trial lawyers have been in bed with the democrats since the time of Lyndon Johnson. However, the democrats have also got to keep their dance cards open for the unions and the "Too Big To Fail" corporations.
Its obvious that Nancy can't sing, so she's gotta dance through all 1900 pages.
  • Georgia Governor's Race
I'm starting to think a candidate could probably win 40% of the vote right off the bat with a campaign promise of seceeding from the US. Seriously. We have to stop this unconstitutional seizure, NOW.
